I've been here a few times already and always had a good experience. I usually had sushi, but this time, I decided to try some Chinese food. I got the chicken lo mein (noodles) and ham fried rice. The lo main was average, but I liked the fried rice. The portion was reasonable. I have to say that I enjoyed their Japanese food more than the Chinese food. I also got the ichi roll, scallop, and tako (octopus). Their sashimi were a bit pricey, but they were very fresh and of good quality. They said some sashimi were shipped directly from Japan! I would definitely recommend this place for sushi lovers. In general, they have really good service. The first time I went, the server was super friendly. She came over often to check on us and gave suggestions of what to order. I felt like a highly valued customer. read more

Shame on me for not writing this sooner. We've dined here several times throughout the year. Compared to other restaurants that serve sashimi, we like this one the best! Coming from Hawaii, eating raw fish is a favorite of ours. We are accustomed to having our fish fresh out of the ocean. So moving to Utah, we had our fair share of sashimi hunting. This restaurant is in a newer part of town so the shopping area isn't that crowded yet and there's always lots of free parking. From the moment you walk in, you are warmly greeted. There's spacious seating to accommodate large groups too. I've already lost count on how many different sushi rolls we've had here. They are all so delicious! Every sashimi platter we've ordered has been fresh (flown in) and expertly sliced. We especially appreciate hearing their specials and knowing if the scallops from Japan just arrived :) Big shout out to Steven! He has a great selection of sake to pair with your meal. There might even be bottles of sake available that aren't on the menu ;) maybe we come often or maybe he has great memory, but Steven recalls our favorite bottle of sake and brings it right away :) Thank you again Steven. We order food to go and we were so disappointed. We got teriyaki chicken, General tso's chicken, seafood delight, house special fried rice, house special lo mein and hot and sour soup. The teriyaki chicken was flat and dried and tasted kinda weird. Never had teriyaki chicken like this before. Even my kids didn't want to eat it. The hot and sour soup was not good at all and I'll leave it at that. The general tsos chicken was too sweet for what it is. Everything else was just ehh. I was hoping for this place to be good as it has such a high rating.. but it wasn't. The lady that took our order over the phone was nice so I'll give this place two stars instead of one but I will not be returning. read more

The food is always good- husband got pink romance roll and true blue roll and loved them. We got fried rice for my son and I got Steak teriyaki bento and subbed Cali roll for gyoza instead. Let me tell you, this is a hidden gem for sushi. I consider myself a sushi snob, and NEVER visit establishments that serve sushi AND Chinese food in the same place of business. There's something criminal about that to me. I've avoided this place for that reason, but I was told by enough people the sushi there is surprisingly good. I ventured out to this unassuming strip mall restaurant tucked away in the southwest corner of the salt lake valley right off bangerter highway. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fish. I'm a big fan of tuna. They have toro, o toro, and chutoro aka all the fatty tuna. They fly in their fish fresh and you can tell. I ordered the chirashi bowl, something not most restaurants offer, along with tuna and sable fish nigiri. I enjoy a good roll, but I typically eat sushi for the quality of the fish and a good ingredient speaks for itself. If you're a fan of sashimi and nigiri, I highly recommend you give this spot a try read more

I'm back. My friend said there is a seafood Pho that's not on the menu. Let's see how it goes... I just placed my secret order amd yes, they are making the seafood pho. I also ordered Maguro amd Halibut sashimi and a Tiger roll. Just look at the photos of the sashimi... yes it tastes as good as it looks. So fresh, no slime, fresh scent, so delicious. The blue crab Spider Roll was very good too. The food is amazing here. Now time for my review of the Pho! It comes in a big bowl with a ton of noodles, shrimp, real crab and scallops... WHAT?!?! Not sure why it's not served regularly... oh wait... nope not sure. It's vey good especially since it's 15 degrees outside. I overheard the table next to mine asking their server about my Pho. They said it looks great. You know how I feel about this place. If you're looking for a great dining experience and fantastic sushi but don't know where to go? I highly recommend J C House. We started with our usuals. Edamame, pot stickers, miso, and seaweed squid salad. It was all good, the seaweed salad stood out with a sweet yummy flavor, the pot stickers I wish had a softer shell, it was a little too crispy for my liking. The rolls are ALL AMAZING! This place is a perfect example of why you shouldn't trust online photos. The sushi looked so fresh and high quality on their website and social media, but what I got was the complete opposite. I knew I was taking a risk eating sushi in a landlocked state like Utah, but I was nearby visiting someone at the hospital and decided to try it anyway. Big mistake. The "jumbo" roll I ordered had a pathetic amount of fish. I'm not exaggerating when I say it could've fit on two pennies total. It was basically rice wrapped in disappointment. And shortly after eating, my stomach started hurting. I'm still dealing with it and honestly learned my lesson and sad I even gave this place a chance. If you're thinking about eating here, don't. This place is all show, no substance, and possibly a stomachache waiting to happen. read more

Probably the best nigiri you can find in Utah!! Although it's on the pricy end, the quality of food is worth trying. The bluefin tuna and toro were amazing, melted in our mouths! I preferred the nigiri over the rolls, but the spicy tuna maki was so worth it only $7 for a very decent size. I liked that there wasn't too much rice in the sushi, but wished the rice would be fresher and warmer. Great service, and remember to ask for what fish is fresh that day! read more

GETTING HERE: I was in Utah visiting friends and J and C House was highly recommended. While I cannot detail the location/landmarks as I usually would, I'd venture to say that Yelp has the location correct for sure though. :) REVIEW: I came with a big party and we were all single checks which I know is a big pain, but the staff held their own and dinner was seamless. No issues with anything and the rolls were so good! The fish was fresh and tasted amazing. We were short on time so I didn't get to try as much as I would have liked to, sadly. But my Mars Roll was a definite win and 5 STARS for sure. Service was very good and very friendly (which is always nice when you're with a big party.) Everyone at my table was very satisfied and I heard talk of possibly coming back again this trip if time allowed.
