This is super mediocre food. Ordered take-out: four rolls, soup/salad, and some noodles. It was packaged fine, the food looked fine but tasted meh. I didn't get sick so that's a win. This is the standard expectation for sushi in Utah. Did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the ambiance or service experience. And due to the meh food, unlikely to try this place again. I found this place through Google and am a little surprised by all the glowing reviews. We did not have a wonderful experience there. First off, you walk in and it's super bright, no ambiance. And they sit every booth on one side of the restaurant right next to each other. I get that it makes it easier for the servers, but it's not as nice for the customer. They advertise BOGO which usually means "buy one get one" but that was deceiving because it was actually half off, not free. Which is fine, but when I asked about it the waitress didn't correct me, so we were a bit surprised when the bill came. We asked for a sake suggestion & the first waitress "didn't know much about sake"... you should know if you are offering it on the menu. The other waitress came over & suggested one. We told her we don't like sweet sakes, so she suggested a cucumber one that she said wasn't sweet. Turns out it was really sweet. Lastly, the sushi. It tasted fresh. It was good, but not great. Heavy on the rice. I ordered the phoenix, which I expected to have a bit more flavor with the fire presentation. Usually those have a bit of a smokey flavor, but it was quite bland. Found this on Yelp and remember a while back there used to be a Hagermanns Bakery & Deli and a Sweet Nothings Bakery which both had AYCE all you could eat French toast. Never had their French toast but do remember some sandwiches and bakery items were decent. POSITIVES: Don't let the name fool you, this place is chock full of options besides sushi. Whether it's curry, rice, noodles, teriyaki chicken, a bento box, or a variety of ramen, this place offers lots of satisfying options. The appetizers are equally tempting : edamame, calamari, gyoza, takoyaki, etc. As far as sushi goes, this place nails it with a blend of great flavor and awesome presentation. I ordered the colorful "Playboy roll" (fried shrimp, salmon, tobiko--tiny fish eggs, and jalapeño) and the "Phoenix roll" (tempura shrimp, eel, avocado, salmon, jalapeño, green onion, sesame seeds, teriyaki sauce, and spicy mayo.). This roll was unlike anything if ever been presented with at a sushi restaurant...trust me, it is very exciting and worth every penny. The Japanese decor and theme is very friendly and inviting. The waitress was extremely polite and knowledgeable. Also, the mochi ice cream is fabulous, and you can't go wrong with it. NEGATIVES: the menu was covered in grease from someone fingers... Not sure if the material just attracts grease really easily or something... Also, there was a BOGO 50% off for all sushi rolls... I only ordered 2 rolls myself (one was $15ish, the other would have been about $7 with the offer), and I somehow still walked out paying $30, aside from tip. Still not terrible, but not what I had expected. PRICE: expect to pay $15-30 per person depending on how much food you get. VERDICT: it was a fun experience, and I'm definitely curious about some of the other sushi rolls (and curry!) Brought the family and ordered various sushi rolls and a bowl of ramen. Great spot to stop by. Always passed by since it's next to Harmon's. Finally convinced the kids to have sushi instead is pizza and I'm glad we did. Quality of the fish was good when I ordered the large Sashimi platter. THE SUSHI- I'm a fan. Lets start with introductions- the staff was very accommodating when it came it dietary restrictions. From where my table was seated to the high maintenance request my table made, everything was sublime. Let's touch base on the highlights: -Seating: initially our waitress recommended a table but my party wanted a booth and they did not hesitate to adhere to our request. -Service- my table was anything but simple (or maybe it was just me) but when it came to extra condiments, plates and alternative orders- they did their best to accommodate. I ordered cold Sake- which they were out of so they brought me hot sake and the rest that was left of the cold sake with no charge! -Follow ups- our drinks were never empty and our waitress was attentive and made sure my table was well taken care of. From drinks to extra condiments-they never fell short of customer service. Whether we ordered extra items on the menu that weren't listed to general questions, there was always someone there to answer our questions. Customer service is often overlooked but I never felt neglected. The establishment was clean, the food was fresh and the atmosphere was welcoming. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here and I recommend my friends and family to visit. There's an upscale vibe that you feel when dining here and the service is to be acknowledged. Will I be back? The decision to come here was made on a whim. Came here with friends and noticed that they offered sushi rolls at buy one get one 50% off. We ordered 6 rolls and the rolls were tasty. The Phoenix roll had a little kick with the jalapeño on top. The roll came out wrapped in tin foil. The waitress came and lit the roll on fire. I am super disappointed with this food. I was excited to try this place because it is literally 90 seconds from my house. But it wasn't so great. I like sushi because the fish is RAW and when I got my Godzilla roll all of the yellowtail inside my roll was COOKED and WHITE! I do. Not. Want. Cooked. Fish. In. My. Sushi. And the crispy tuna roll sounded good and tasted ok but was very bizarre. Each slice of the roll was individually deep fried? And the fish was in a little paste on top of each fried ball. So so so weird. The tempura roll was ok. Usual tempura roll. And the salmon cream cheese roll was ok too. If you want solid very very basic rolls, this place is ok. If you want anything more than that, I do not recommend it. Each of their more complex rolls we tried were bizarre and not very tasty. I'd wager I've been to every restaurant offering sushi within a ten-mile radius of my home in Draper, with the exception of the newly rebranded The Cliff Dining Pub. Pickings for sushi around here are pretty slim, so I usually end up driving a distance for sushi. For weeks, I've been stalking The Sushi, which occupies the previous Sweet Nothings Bakery. They did a great job remodeling the interior; if I hadn't known what was there before, I never would have realized it was the same space. I was crossing my fingers hoping this would be just as delightful as Oishi in Orem, but it fell just a bit flat for me. First, the food. Anytime I try a new sushi restaurant, I always test out my two favorites first: Vegas roll and calamari (or, if they don't offer calamari, gyoza). The Vegas roll is priced at $7.90, so I was anticipating it would have krab meat; I was kind of surprised that it seemed to have salmon instead, which isn't typical in my sushi experiences. The calamari also wasn't quite what I was thinking it would be. Instead of a light tempura batter, it was a heavier breading, something I'd expect on chicken tenders or fried shrimp. Second, the service. Overall, they were very friendly and attentive. I noticed an issue with the Diet Coke; the carbonation to syrup ratio was a bit more syrup than carbonation, so this was corrected. The replacement soda was a bit better, but still not quite right. I wasn't a fan of the sauce originally brought with the calamari (I thought it tasted like BBQ sauce), so I was given a teriyaki sauce instead that was much better. When I was given my check, I presented my debit card. The waitress came back a moment later, requesting I write my PIN number down for her. I politely refused and informed her to run it as a credit card. She seemed confused by this, but went ahead and did so. Of course, like any consumer would expect, that process worked. A quick note to the management: there is absolutely no reason why your employees should ask any customer for their pin number to a card. That stands for "personal identification number"--meaning that the only person who should know that number is the cardholder. Please train your employees on how to establish trust with your customers, and stress that it is NEVER appropriate to ask someone for their PIN. read more

Honestly worst sushi place I've been to. We went and there was 2 other tables in the whole restaurant besides us. It took 15 min before anyone even greater me, another 10 min to get drinks & after 40 min of being there I finally got my miso soup. After an hour of waiting we got our sushi rolls & they were very average. Nothing amazing by any means. We ordered 5 rolls in total & one of which was a California roll for my daughter. When we got the check they halved off the California which is $4 to start & then one other roll. Total rip off. So we ended up spending around $80 for 4 rolls plus a California roll. I'm down to pay a lot for good sushi with good service but this place isn't worth it. Wouldn't recommend. read more

This qualifies as the newest sushi joint near the Sandy Draper border. My expectations are always tempered when trying a new restaurant within the first few days of their grand opening. Now here's the scoop. Well done decor - certainly upscale in appearance compared to many of the sushi restaurants in the area. The server was super attentive. Service was fast and they checked back several times to make sure they were taking care of our needs. You'll find plenty of convenient offstreet parking. This is a nice option in the South Valley, so no need to venture downtown. I ordered four different rolls. Ingredients were fresh, flavor was good and size was a little bit larger than average for a roll. You would expect a little extra size because they were priced roughly a dollar more per roll, compared to many of the other local sushi shops. Now here's the sticking point, they put a little bit of a different spin on many of their rolls, not traditional Japanese. For example, they don't have a cucumber roll, only a cucumber/avocado roll. They don't have a Philadelphia roll. The salmon roll, typically rolled in skin, was different structure and it looked much like the California roll only with with salmon in it. Looking at some of the items on the menu, I believe they lean a little bit towards Chinese and away from Japanese. So if you are OK with Chinese on the menu, this will work for a meal. A pleasant surprise... The first 100 customers get a free $10 gift card if they spend $20 on their meal. We earned our card and will be back to explore some other items on their menu.
