    a bag of chicken
    Jess G.

We ordered the large Perch dinner and 6 piece wings. Quick, hot and ready to eat. Loved the convenient location. Food is always on point, everytime we visit Chicago we stop in and satisfy our cravings.

It looked as though something took a small bite of this piece of chicken.

On Friday evening of June 7, 2024, I went into J & J Fish and Chicken on 47th Street and lake Park , Chicago. I ordered what I frequently order, small chicken tenders and large fries. I went and sat and I noticed the price increase since last time on the tenders of a $1. I soon got the food and I went to my apartment. I noticed the tenders usually hold up better on the trip home. The breading was so soggy it was falling off at least two of the tenders. The chicken is usually hard . Not this time and I paid more for it this time. Also, they didn't give me as many fries as they usually do. If that wasn't bad enough , it looks as though something took a small bite out of one of the pieces of chicken. It was turned so I wouldn't notice it right away. I didn't.

    Jumbo Shrimp!

I tried the Jumbo shrimp special, comes with fries, bread, and coleslaw. The breading on the shrimp was just perfect, not over seasoned. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were not dry at all. The fries had some seasoning as well and were great with mild sauce. The coleslaw was a just ok. Will definitely be back to try the wings.

Feathers in the chicken, constantly. That's not good.
    Dinky S.

Really good fish and chicken. Wish they sold vegetable side dishes (greens, green beans, spinach, salad or something.) Fried chicken is good EXCEPT THEY OFTEN DON'T CLEAN THE CHICKEN. LIKE FEATHERS that should have been pulled or burned off. That's really rude and disrespectful to customers to not clean/pull feathers. Otherwise J&J would have gotten one more star.

Under new management. The prison glass is gone. The new location is an open concept.

I actually love coming to eat early because the servers are a little more attentive since they just started their shift and the service is a little faster as there are less tables. Let me tell you, though, whatever we came it was quite busy with graduations and family dinners-which I didn't mind at all! What ate a relatively large meal as I had eaten a smaller lunch. We started off with the wedge salad and a yellowtail sushi roll. The wedge salad was pretty average, but the dressing was really delicious. The yellowtail was also pretty good and the jalapeño topping gave an extra kick last minute. For the entrées, we ordered the scallops as well as the pan seared Chilean Seabass. The scallops are buttery, rich, and had a perfect crispy crust. The Seabass was flaky and light-overall a very good combination of flavors. We got a side of the broccolini and then the crème brûlée and a piece of Keylime pie to go. Overall a very filling and delicious meal-I was pleasantly surprised with the scallops and how light the sea bass was.

Well, it is kind of tucked away in a desolate area on Canal Street, but still. One of my good friends suggested we check this place out after hearing about it from a co-workers. The only thing I know about Vietnamese cuisine is pho (which for some insane reason, I've never had) and banh mi, which I tried (and loved) while visiting my fave cuz in the Bay. . I arrived early to this very large, beautifully decorated venue on a Tuesday night and was intrigued by the set-up. One side was all tables, the other side was tables and multiple gigantic screened tvs playing Family Feud and the World Cup games. Kinda crazy. I chose to sit on the big screen side while waiting for my date. He called to say he was running late and to get the order started. I had been waiting a bit, so i caught the eye of one of the workers, who came right over. He was so friendly and accommodating and answered all questions. I ordered the green Thai kumquat iced tea, spring rolls and the chicken wings he highly suggested. He rushed off to place the order. Moments later, a couple of distinguished gents walked in and sat at a huge round table cater-corner from me and soon thereafter the nice man who took my order sat down with them. I'm assuming he was the owner for obvious reasons. I gained more respect for this establishment because customer service goes a very long way with me and he obviously cared about that. Our server, a very friendly young lady, brought my drink out and I was surprised to see that it was served in what looked like a sippy cup, with a cartoon design on the lid. Kinda weird seeing as I am an adult, but it was a tasty beverage, nonetheless. My friend showed up as the spring rolls and chicken wings came out. We devoured both, which were delicious and then placed our orders. I went with lobster noodles and my friend got the beef tenderloin pho. Even though my entree presentation wasn't the best, it was a very tasty dish to both of us. The beef tenderloin pho was definitely the star of the show! The broth was fragrant and flavorful and the beef was tender beyond measure. I'm an avid ramen fan but this pho definitely had my attention and I can't wait to try more. Ocean Bar and Grill is such a cute, quirky place that caters to date night diners, groups and families. They were all in there that night and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I know I did. I'll definitely be taking my daughter when she comes home from her summer internship!
