On Friday evening of June 7, 2024, I went into J & J Fish and Chicken on 47th Street and lake Park , Chicago. I ordered what I frequently order, small chicken tenders and large fries. I went and sat and I noticed the price increase since last time on the tenders of a $1. I soon got the food and I went to my apartment. I noticed the tenders usually hold up better on the trip home. The breading was so soggy it was falling off at least two of the tenders. The chicken is usually hard . Not this time and I paid more for it this time. Also, they didn't give me as many fries as they usually do. If that wasn't bad enough , it looks as though something took a small bite out of one of the pieces of chicken. I tried the Jumbo shrimp special, comes with fries, bread, and coleslaw. The breading on the shrimp was just perfect, not over seasoned. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were not dry at all. The fries had some seasoning as well and were great with mild sauce. The coleslaw was a just ok. Will definitely be back to try the wings. read more

Really good fish and chicken. Wish they sold vegetable side dishes (greens, green beans, spinach, salad or something.) Fried chicken is good EXCEPT THEY OFTEN DON'T CLEAN THE CHICKEN. LIKE FEATHERS that should have been pulled or burned off. That's really rude and disrespectful to customers to not clean/pull feathers. Otherwise J&J would have gotten one more star. read more

***** 5 STARS FOR LOCATION ONLY ***** This location has been under new management and I give the location upgrade and easy 5 stars, The old prison glass is gone and replace with an open concept and contemporary lighting. The chairs along the wall and the unsightly huge vending machines are gone and replaced with mahogany tables and chairs and faux stone walls in warm beige and brown, Very nicely done. I've added photos of the new location *** 3 STARS FOR THE FOOD *** I can tell that the batter for the fish is different than the old owners. I never get the lemon pepper and I remember the fish being a little more flavorful. I ordered 2 catfish (fried hard) filet and 4 wings The batter on the filet did not adhere to the fish and both wings and fish were flavorless without the lemon pepper. The wings were not good quality like Harold's. Both the filet and wings were a little greasy as well. I've had better food there so I will continue to go but they at least need to add salt and pepper to the food. read more

Had got a great deal. 20 wings with fries for 18 bucks. The lemon pepper seasoning is always a hit. We got the pan and it was still fresh and hot. The fries were not soggy and they threw in extra sauce. read more

No issue with the food my issue is with the server not wearing gloves the server/cashier touches many surfaces , fills condiment containers takes our money or credit cards and I never see the cashier sanitize their hands. As customers we deserve a healthy environment surely there are health regulations not in compliance at this store read more

Their website is outdated, and I thought I was getting my order of catfish for $25 according to their website, but when I got to the location, my total was $50. After complaining that I wasn't gonna pay that much for all of that catfish that was a party size, the guy took off $5. I didn't have to pay at all, but was nice enough to go with it even though I didn't want all of that catfish. But please don't give me attitude when your website is outdated. Not my fault. Most people would have left, not buying anything. And on top of that, the fish had zero seasoning, not even salt. Not good at all. Asked for lemon pepper, and they didn't give it to me. This location is under new ownership and the quality of the food and service is horrible. I called in on three different times ordering a small catfish steak fried hard and keep in mind this cost $12 dollars. Every time I get home the fish is not well done and I call and the cashier had the nerve to say why didn't you check your order before you left and I said that is your job not mines. Never said they would replace the order at all. I won't visit this location again and neither should anyone else. Disappointed customer. read more
