We got the duck in plum sauce, blue crab, and stir fried garlic string beans. The food was all good, but the crab was pretty laborious to eat - which extends the amount of time eating at the restaurant - and didn't have much meat to them. The stir fried garlic string beans were good, but nothing special. My favorite was the duck dish - the plum sauce gave it a nice sweet flavor profile. Came here for my mom's birthday. The staff really went above and beyond to make her day feel extra special. They played a birthday song over the speakers and let us bring a cake to the restaurant. Service wise, would give this place a 10/10. The food was really unique and special, you don't see a lot of these dishes at Chinese restaurants. The menu had many many different options to choose from. We shared the twin lobster sticky rice (came with 2 lobsters for $88), the salted yolk pumpkin, and the pork belly chicken soup. The soup was good but the white pepper taste was a bit too strong. The other dishes were on the heavier, oily side but they were really delicious. There were generous portions of lobster. They served a really nice, fragrant jasmine tea with dinner which they kept refilled and pipping hot. Bathroom was clean and the restaurant has a beautiful design inside that's nice for parties of 4 or larger groups for family style dining. Came in on a friday for dinner and it was packed! There are table for 2, 4, and 8 and one of the 4s was finishing up so we had to wait for them. Salted egg yolk pumpkin: saw this dish recommended a lot and it is also indicated that they also recommend it and boy does it not disappoint! crunchy and umami 9.2/10 Lobster sticky fried rice: another recommended dish, it was $96 for MP. the lobster was cooked great! easy to get all the meat out and good asian flavor. i wished there was a little more sticky rice but for two lobster it felt worth it. 8.7/10 Salt and pepper japanese tofu: i think is the name but this is a go to for me if i see it in the menu. stir fried well, and the tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 8.9/10 String beans: good veggies. i like how they have different cooking options. we opted for the stir fry and it tasted exactly how i expected it to. 8.5/10 read more

This was our second visit and they don't take reservations so it's best to open the place up by being the first ones in the restaurant. We drove up from Evanston and it wasn't too bad and we found street parking too. I have to give Infatuation some credit for rating JM Seafood either number 1 or 2 for Chinese food for all of Chicago and hats off to them for being truthful and accurate with this rating. First of all, the service is refreshingly warm and kind, the young gentleman who has greeted us twice, gave great recommendations and on both occasions we tried their famous fried calabasa, it's like a pumpkin or a sweet potato. We also loved the sautéed beef and the fried eggplant. But clearly, their number one dish is the two (2) lobsters fried rice - get that or you'll always be wondering why everyone has that same dish on their table. :) We were also celebrating a birthday and we forgot to bring a candle but no worries, they had one for us. :) We'll be back due to this place clearly exceeding our expectations.. Wok Hei in Cantonese means "breath of a wok," is the distinct charred, smoky aroma and flavor that is a hallmark of Cantonese stir-frying... They are in the outskirts of main China town area so it's not a tourist place and still keep the authenticity of Cantonese food. Service is great, nice seating and big table to hold a larger group of parties. Been to this restaurant several times and these are my favorite items: Salted egg fried pumpkin (5/5) - it's one of their famous dishes. Crispy fried pumpkin tossed with salted egg yolk. Rich favor from the salted egg yolk and neutralize with the sweet pumpkin. Szechuan Twic cooked pork (4.5/5) - spicy, juicy, and savory! Sweet and sour pork ribs (4.5/5) - just like the name, and they have pineapple in it! The authentic way, iykyk! Hong Kong Style Jumbo shrimp (5/5 ) - perfect deep fried jumbo shrimp with the 避風塘（HK style dry seasoning)! Flavorful! I visited a couple of Chinese restaurants in Chicago's Chinatown during my trip, but JM Seafood is hands down the best of them all. This restaurant is not directly in Chinatown, but it's only about a 5 minute drive away. My only regret is that I didn't find this place earlier, or I honestly would have come here every single day (seriously it's that good!). Salted Egg York Pumpkin (5/5): This is a must-order. It's perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The salted egg yolk coats the outside of the fried pumpkin with a savory, rich, and umami flavor that perfectly balances the natural sweetness of the pumpkin. Pepper Pork Belly with Chicken Pot (5/5): This dish is a Cantonese specialty (it's called white pepper pork tripe chicken pot). The broth is super rich, milky, and has a pretty strong white pepper taste. The chicken is super tender and the tripe doesn't have a funky taste. Almost every table orders a bowl of this soup! This soup is definitely a top tier comfort dish especially in the cold winter months in Chicago! Lobster Sticky Rice (4.5/5): I read reviews that this Lobster Sticky Rice dish from JM Seafood went viral and most people come here specifically just to try this dish! It is visually stunning and generally lives up to the hype. The portion sizes are really big and the lobster tasted fresh and tender. We came here for a family reunion and ordered a lot of dishes! Most of the dishes were so good that they were instantly gone before I had a chance to snap a picture. Food overall was fresh and good, but some dishes were quite disappointing. For example, we ordered the frog, which came with tons of onion (due to allergy of a member, they replaced allergen with onion); As you can tell from the picture, this is almost like a game of "where is the frog;" however, I had to admit the frog itself was tasty and fresh. I'm on here to rave about their salted egg yolk fried pumpkin dish. It's salty, layers of unami, crispy yet rich on the inside. Its flavor hits you like a snack but it's such a great side dish to add your Cantonese lunch or dinner spread. Came here for lunch after hearing about their unique lobster fried rice. I'm not particularly interested in that dish and suspect it's overrated, but I'm impressed by their other dishes, customer service and lively atmosphere. We were able to snag a seat because we showed up at noon right when they opened. Otherwise, expect a wait for a medium to large party. I went to the JM Seafood when it was at the old location and before it became social media popular. Nonetheless, I was happy to dine in again and visit this location. A little outside of Chinatown but a must if you can make it there. JM Seafood - Wingyip is regarded as some of the best Hong Kongnese food in Chicago. All the dishes were so delicious and large. Among 4, we had a lot we wanted to try and ended up taking home. The seafood is very fresh and well cooked. Went to experience this place because of course their twin lobster and sticky rice is viral. The place is well lit and looks clean. Customer service was spot on, no problems at all, very attentive. We had the viral sensation #301 and the beef short rib with black pepper. I will say the beef short rib had great flavor. The only issue was it was chewy. I was not impressed by the twin lobster and ginger sticky rice. There was hardly any flavor to the rice unless you got a piece of ginger. It is market value so we paid $88 for 2 lobsters. We came here on a Saturday night for a late dinner and waited about 15 minutes without a reservation. Street parking was easy to find. We settled on sharing a large table with another small party rather than wait longer for our own table. The space inside isn't too big and it gets fairly crowded. We tried their popular lobster rice, which almost every table seemed to order. I was honestly not incredibly impressed by it. It tasted fine but seemed to be similar to the lobster dishes I've tried at many other Chinese restaurants. I wouldn't reorder it next time I come. We also got a whole steamed fish, which was pretty average since I had high expectations given that this is a seafood restaurant. My favorite dishes were ironically all of the non-seafood items we ordered, including their sautéed green beans and soups- we tried a chicken soup and a vegetable soup and both were very authentic and warming on a cold night. We have been wanting to check this place out of course because of the lobster and crab rice but we were pleasantly surprised by the expansiveness of the menu (almost intimidating) but they absolutely have something for everyone. The place was pretty busy about 2 hours after opening on a Saturday but we waited no more than 10 minutes to be seated and the staff was kind and attentive. The food was fantastic, one thing I will say is be careful of smaller bits of shell in the lobster and crab rice but it was so delicious. The garlic green beans had a tasty sauce on it and the salt and pepper shrimp skewers were great. Loved this spot! The lobster sticky rice was on every single table - this is an absolute must try! We replaced the sticky rice for fried rice because of preference, and it was incredible. Moist, flavorful, egg-filled, and aromatic! The only thing is you will definitely have to get your hands dirty while eating this - the lobster was cooked well and everything was delicious. We also ordered their salted egg yolk pumpkin, and their off-menu chicken offal recommendation that they don't get a lot of - they mentioned it's not common for them to get shipments of it often or for it to be so fresh! This place is extremely clean, and the staff is extremely attentive and friendly. I saw this place on TikTok and randomly got a craving for the lobster fried rice which I've never had before. I knew exactly what I wanted when I came in and I ordered and I got my food in probably less than seven minutes. The green beans were so delicious and the lobster on a fried rice was amazing. I wish there were a few more shrimp in the fried rice and maybe more flavor on the fried rice because I feel like the lobster had all the flavor and not the rice itself, though it was still delicious. I didn't have any drinks, only have water and tea, which was complementary. Overall I will definitely be back to try some of their other items. Now I didn't know the price of the lobster fried rice because it is market price, but it was $48 I believe which was a little steep for rice but they do give you a lot of of it and you got a whole lobster on it so I say for the price it wasn't bad. Highly recommend making a reservations as the place fills very quickly and wait times can be long. Even for a Thursday evening, there was a full house. Small restaurant but got a table next to the windows. Their food is tasty. We definitely recommend their special dish: pork stomach with chicken soup. It tastes full with flavor of white pepper and warms you up in the cold winter. Their fish fillets are also special, but be cautious if you cannot tolerate with any fishy flavor. A choy are typically expected but you can choose more than four different cooking styles other can garlic. Try other styles it's very Cantonese authentic. The soup and A choy come with big portion. i'm a bit surprised there aren't more reviews for JM Seafood - since their lobster sticky rice blew up on instagram, and there's hardly ever an open table during prime hours. i've dined in once and ordered takeout a couple other occasions. it's difficult to get through on their landline to place an order. from my experience, the front of the house just doesn't answer the phone or picks it up & hangs up right away if they're busy. i live nearby and got hung up on a few times so walked over to order. no big deal. the food is solid. the menu is vast. i've mostly stuck to the classics and the lobster sticky rice. the lobster is obviously expensive, but it's worth a shot. the rice underneath the lobster was objectively the star - so much flavor. the only thing i've noticed that i'm not a fan of is the size of the onions and veggies in most dishes. the pepper steak seemed to be 3/4 huge onion chunks and peppers. not the ideal ratio. overall, still a solid spot. read more

We stopped for lunch today and that was the best decision. We got a table right away without a wait. The place is small, narrow and simple. They have small appetizer plate for eating, disposable chopsticks and paper cups. Most of the tables are for 2-4 people and there are 3 round tables for larger parties. The staff is friendly and very attentive. They walk around to check on tables. We ordered the double lobster over sticky rice and garlic green beans. The double lobster over sticky rice what they are known for. The food came pretty fast. And we were excited to try it. It was delicious. You can't see the rice as the lobster was on top of the rice. The seasoning and flavor was very good and the rice tasted really good. Had a little sweet taste which was surprisingly good. The green beans were just stir fried with garlic and it was amazing. So much flavor and had a nice crunch to the beans. The garlic was left as whole pieces which was nice as I'm not a garlic person so it was easy to pick out the whole clove. There's always a wait and they don't take reservations however, you can call them ahead of time to let them know you're coming with the number of people and they'll put you in line. The service is always great and fast. Everyone seems just happy to work there! The food is the best I've had in years and I don't go to Chinatown as much since they've opened up this location. They've kept the same decor of the restaurant from the previous restaurant and it's spacious with a couple of rooms for private dining. We went for a family dinner on a weeknight and were seated right away. The restaurant was half full. We had the soft-shelled crab appetizer, famous lobster fried rice with 1 lobster ($50), fried pumpkin and the pan-fried beef with rice noodle. It was a good amount of food and we had some leftovers. The soft shelled crab was everyone's favorite. They definitely know how to fry things. The lobster in the fried rice dish was very good. Seasoned well, lots of flavor, and with large pieces that were easy to remove from the shell. The fried rice that came with it was not good. It was oily, slightly gelatinous, and did not have a satisfying umami flavor. I'll have to see if we can get the lobster without it or with another side instead, next time. The salted egg yolk fried pumpkin had really good flavor and texture. The pumpkin was soft meaty, salty and yummy. It is a big portion, so would it is a good side dish to share with 4-5 people. You feel kind of gross eating too much of it, since it's so obviously unhealthy. I would definitely get it again. The pan-fried beef and noodles were also very good and was a good dish to round out our meal with. We'd definitely come back and I'd recommend it to others. Probably one of the most legit joints I've been to in Chicago- defo transported me back to HK. Pretty good (for Chicago). 1. Scallion chicken: I'm a sucker for this and theirs was pretty good. 2. Crab with sticky rice: the crab was surprisingly decently meaty and came with the sticky rice with lap cheong at the bottom. Yum. Gotta love sticky rice. 3. Scallops: omg their scallops were huge! Such good value. Not on the menu, but definitely worth ordering. This style of cooking for scallops always hits the spot. 4. Pea shoots: standard veg order for Chinese places and theirs was good. Overall, servings were generous and such fantastic value! Our bill came down to $180ish or so considering with got both crab and scallops so worth it. MUST GO.
