SCAMMERS. Full stop. I live in a rented condo. I called the non-emergency line and left a message asking for a callback so we could schedule service as soon as possible. I did not request emergency service. Someone called me back and said they were already out on another call and could stop by. So they came by. The next day, my landlord was billed an over $200 emergency fee. When I called to dispute it, the first person told me, "Because you said 'as soon as possible,' we treated it as an emergency." That is flat-out false. Asking to schedule something as soon as possible is not the same as requesting emergency service. The first woman also stated that I said I was not available on Monday. In my message I said I would be out on Monday but my husband would be in and out and could arrange a time. We lived with the issue for days and did not need it immediately. The call was then escalated to "Shannon," who claimed I must have used the emergency line. I absolutely did not. Shannon kept telling me that I must have called for emergency. I did not. Their phone system clearly separates the emergency option, and I intentionally used the regular line. I even warned my landlord before the technician arrived that I had NOT requested emergency service and that I was very surprised by the callback. See Picture below. This is a classic bait-and-switch. The technician himself was professional and helpful--and ironically, we were actively considering service plans as we are in the process of working to buy this condo in the near future. We were going to inquire on service plans and other work with this company. After this experience, I would rather pay more somewhere else than deal with a company that inflates charges by re-labeling routine scheduling as an "emergency" and flat out lies and is deceitful. Be very careful leaving messages with this company and be careful as they lie to cover up. They quietly convert non-emergency requests into emergency calls and then hit you with an over $200 fee after the fact. Completely dishonest. Very disappointed in the customer service of J&J Heating and Air conditioning. We hired them to install a new heat pump to replace the old a.c. unit. Not only did the new system not work, it took them an entire week during a heat wave to come and remedy the problem. IN the meantime we saw that the ceiling in our home below the location of the equipment had a large water stain requiring the ceiling to need painting. J&J's approach to customer service is to first ignore the problem and then insult the customer and not provide any apology or fix to us. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for your HVAC needs - wish we had. read more

We called for failing ac cooling. They told us that we needed coolant but it's been outlawed and we needed to replace our entire system at the cost of $14,000. We called another service that came out and put freon in and we are up and running perfectly!!!!! They tried to rip us off for $14,000.!!! Stay away!!! Total fraudulent operators! Evil!!! read more

I highly recommend J&J Heating & Air Conditioning. We have had ongoing problems with our water heater at our newly built home. J&J plumbers Adam & Norm came out and found original packing never removed , screws never installed and filters never cleaned by the original installer. (Not J&J) The water heater is running perfectly now, and we are signing up for an annual service agreement! It's great to find skilled people at reasonable prices. read more

They installed a central AC for me about 15 years ago Everything worked well for a while, but they made a couple of rookie mistakes in the installation. 1) the unit shut down because the drain pan filled up; they forgot to remove a freeze plug in the pan, and 2)I lost the AC during this recent heat wave. There was a leak in the system; when they did the original installation they drove a screw through a coolant line while fastening the line set to the house. I subsequently had a different technician perform the diagnosis and repair. J&J takes forever to get an appointment. The guy I use now is a one-man company, who generally gets to my house within 24-48 hours after I call.I'll never use these guys for anything else. read more

I would not recommend this company. Rather than checking why our furnace wasn't working, they just recommended we replace the whole thing for $11k for heat and AC or $5600 for a new furnace. We had another company come in and they recommended a cleaning, plus a part replacement. This was the worst $160 I have ever spent and have already told my extended family about the lousy service. Stay away from this company, try A Faguendes or Milltown if you are from the area, they are much more customer focused. read more

0 stars: These guys canceled on us twice, while we waited a month for them to come--we actually bought a window unit because my partner works nights and can't sleep in an 80 degree room during the day. They didn't "make a note" of the only reason we called them in the first place, which was to clean the ac units as we had mold, so they had to reschedule for another appointment after "doing maintenance" (another 300$ because they forgot to write something down?) and broke a piece of our unit to boot. After using this vendor for some time, always satisfied, we called for service for a unit purchased from them with-in warranty. They came and diagnosed the problem as a faulty compressor. They quoted $2850.00 to replace the compressor under warranty. Thinking this was excessive, we asked for a breakdown. They said it is $2850.00. No breakdown of the estimate will be given. We called a distributor of the product who recommended another repair dealer. They responded and repaired a wiring problem. The unit was repaired for less than $200. Shame on they for trying to rip us off. We will never call this company again for anything nor will recommend them. read more

Since moving into a new house 4 years ago, J&J has done our Fall and Spring system tune-ups to insure that the heating and a/c systems are working correctly. During that time, they have also installed a humidifier into the system and corrected a furnace problem (that we thought was a thermostat issue) under warranty, We always ask if Jack is available when we schedule the work. Jack is great - personable, knowledgeable and honest. The office staff are always helpful. The peace of mind that this maintenance service contract brings us is well worth the cost read more

My elderly Mother (83) with stage 4 breast cancer had her furnace go down a couple of months ago. I'm her son, I handle such things, happily. J&J has been servicing the old furnace & ac units for years. I called them late at night and set my Mother up with some space heaters to get her through. I spoke several times with someone there, then again in the AM. They promised to get out there and did this, but I was very specific with everyone I spoke to: CALL ME...I WANT TO SPEAK TO SALESMAN (Tom?) and get some quotes etc...The plumber who showed up told me over the phone that it was time for a new furnace, I agreed, but, AGAIN, I specifically asked to have Tom call me to discuss. But, instead, J&J went after my Mother hard. They pressured and exploited the whole situation. One tactic was to tell her that the some odd $150 visit would be voided if she agreed to buy via 50% deposit right then that AM. She, of course, fell for the pressure and wrote a check; giving me no time to get any quotes or even have a conversation with Tom...he never called. They took her money and put in the furnace. I'm sure the plumber got a nice commission, and I hope he's proud of himself. When he was on the phone with me in the AM he was practically frothing at the mouth knowing he had a vulnerable old, sickly, woman on the hook to sell to, and he succeeded. I was furious!!! I never heard from anyone... Also, they damaged her cellar stairs...railing and broke a coat rack off the wall and said they'd fix it but still haven't done a thing. I'm 53, been around, worked for a plumber through college & high school summers, then went into financial sales for a career. They deliberately ignored my very specific command to confer with me, that I only needed a day to get some quotes, but was leaning towards using them, but they went for my Mother's weakness...right for the throat via her fear and checkbook. They're a disgrace and I wouldn't trust them now to change a washer on a sink. Go to the next plumber with better reviews...actions like this one story has to come from the top and that means they can't be trusted one bit. This is the only recourse I have...it's my Mother's home, her furnace, her decision, legally. But, their way of doing business was shown to be me very clearly and I'll never forgive them. What would you do if someone mugged your elderly & very sick mother? That's how I feel, but I can't do much more than warning the general public as to this company's tactics and lowest of low ethics. read more

J&J Heating & Air Conditioning did an Awesome job replacing our furnace, central air and humidifier. They arrived early and finished the job when estimated. They also installed a programmable thermostat and walked us through how to use it. They cleaned up when finished. They went above and beyond by filling out the energy rebate forms and included an addressed envelope to mail it in. We also got a follow up call to see if we had any questions. This company doesn't care if it's an emergency. They are not accommodating. They remind you in every call to them "they're busy". They don't return your messages on their so called 24 hour service number. When they do show up, they knock on your door, maybe call you, and if you don't answer they're on to the next victim. Where to begin? We just bought our newly built house less than a year ago and the system has broken down twice. First time I called, it took them forever to come out and fix it. Second time they were closed but got transferred to the emergency extension. DAVE EMEND was the guy there. I call once, no answer. Second time I call this so called Dave picks up, sounds depressed and sounds like his on drugs. Asks why i was calling and not leaving a voice mail?? Said he was waiting for me to leave a voice mail to call me back and should have left a voice mail the first time? Which means he was deliberately not picking up the phone and only picks up calls he thinks are I don't know, "worthy" for him? So I explain the situation, told him it's the second with the last 6 months this has happen, he doesn't not even acknowledge it or even try's to understand my frustration. Goes on and says if he comes out tonight it would be almost $200? I asked why and he said because it's late and it's the serve fee? I go on to tell him the house is not even a year old and last time we didn't pay a penny. He then loses it and starts yelling at me, frustrated that I didn't not tell him it was a new house, he says most people tell him that in the beginning of their conversations and saying he doesn't know anything. It really did sound like he was just doing nothing at work probably just doing drugs? He sounded like it too. Worst experience ever! read more

They set up our heating in the fall of 2017. It was originally set up incorrectly, then the top regulator fell out twice. We've contacted them 4 times in a little over a year. On Thanksgiving morning, the heater was failing to provide enough heat for the house; called them and they said they would charge us. Its understandable if this was the first issue we had, but considering that this was the fourth issue you think they would have apologized and done the job for free... Do not use them... read more

Pros: Low prices. Cons: First bad experience: Had them install a split unit, it leaked condensation immediately after the installation from poor insulation, called them and they said someone would be out that week. Took them weeks to fix it. Second bad experience: They installed another unit that leaked condensation in multiple places. First time I called them, the guy on the phone got overly defensive and accused the plumber. The leak was CLEARLY coming from the unit itself. They finally came out and fixed it. Third bad experience: Had them come out for a problem with a RTU in another building I manage and they said it was a bad fan motor. After they replaced the motor unit worked for a couple month before it went down again. Fourth bad experience: When the RTU went down again, had one of my guys call them to hopefully put in an emergency repair request but no one answered so he left a message, 5 hours later they didn't even return the call to say they are not coming. Called someone else and within 90 MINUTES had someone here. Come to find out, the problem was with a motor relay that didn't work reliably which is likely the reason the motor got burnt in the first place. Moral of the story? Find someone else for you HVAC needs, you get what you pay for. read more

Disappointing experience. Requested quote to install residential a/c. Technician came to my home and seemed very knowledgeable and inspired our confidence. After discussing several concerns I had the technician recommended a specific product to address them yet when I asked for some additional information about the product that was recommended by him and that he agreed to provide we were dropped - multiple calls, messages and visits to the office were never returned. We believe in supporting and patronizing local businesses however it became very clear to us that this business did not value ours and we are now sourcing this project out to other contractors. My fathers boiler that is 20 years old stopped working on one of the coldest days this year! Called J&J and they had someone come out right away! They had a lot of work to do replacing the old boiler and the hot water tank! They were very friendly,professional and explained everything! It took a number of hours , when they were done they left everything spotless. They also gave my Dad all the rebate slips ready to go in envelopes! Would def. recommend them! read more

I was given a window of 12-4 for a service call to look at my a/c, so I left work early and waited outside my rental until for J&J. When I called at 4:00, the job hadn't even been assigned and the service manager couldn't be reached for an update. Plenty of other people want the job, so I moved on. read more

We were having a problem with our heating system and got two quotes. One was from J&J, the other was from a Leominster, Mass., company. J&J sent a guy out and he looked at our unit for 15 minutes, then said we'd need a new power venter ($1100-$1200), and then soaked my wife for a $117 check for his time. The other company came in and said it could replace two parts in the power venter unit (thermal switch and timer motor) for $586, and did so. I was still steamed about the $117-for-15-minutes charge from J&J and asked the company we hired if he thought that was high. He told me their charge to come over, look, and give a quote was $59. So... I called J&J's owner and he said, "It was a service call, and $117 is our rate for a service call." I said, " Your guy was here 15 minutes, and we just wanted a quote, not a service call." J&J said, "Sorry. That's a service call. It's $117. And frankly, that's cheap compared to some other companies. I'm thinking of raising it to $125, $129. We're in Dracut, you know." Yes, well, I know you're in Dracut. But that doesn't give you a license to rip people off. $117 for 15 minutes....? AND... the quote J&J gave was for the worst possible scenario (an entirely new unit). I asked why they didn't suggest replacement of the two parts the other company replaced; the motor was and is working fine. The problem was the timer was telling the motor to run even when it wasn't needed. The J&J owner simply said, "Well, it's a 13-year-old unit. It's not going to last much longer. So the money you put into it for parts isn't money well spent." Ah. Well, thank you for that. Remind me to cross J&J off our list of service companies.... read more

Awful!!!! Called more than four times to get someone to give us a quote on a new furnace, took forever for the guy to come. Then, he comes out and will not give us our quote. I had a central a/c unit installed by J&J and within the first 2 months of use I have had problem after problem. Between the unit not cooling to house below 77 degrees to it sounding like there was someone playing the drums through the return vents. The latest diagnosis is that there were parts missing in the unit that needed to be ordered. Really?! On a brand new unit! Very frustrating. I would not recommend this company to anybody. read more

Brand new AC & heating system installed Fall 2016. System install was incredibly loud, apparently installed in awkward place in attic so parts can't be reached and today something wrong with drip tray. Came home to water all over 2nd floor cause AC didn't drain properly. Do not work with 'yes man Sales guys' or the rest of them. Seriously, you think you are saving a couple thousand dollars but I promise you, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! Have to take time off for repair person? We hired them to put in a brand new forced hot water heating system and a brand new central air conditioning system in our ranch. This was four years ago and neither system has worked properly since installation. The amount of heating baseboard was insufficient even though they claim to have done a "heat load" study. (Two other contractors confirmed this.) We had to hire other contractors in install additional baseboard. And the central air system installation is "among the least professional that I have ever seen," said the new contractor that came last night to begin to repair and redesign the system. It is apparent now that shoddy installation and cutting every corner they could was their method of working. There are so many choices of HVAC contractors available. This company, in our opinion, should not be among them. read more

my son has central air and it was freezing up for some reason we could not figure out. so we hired j and j to check out the system. they told us we needed a complete new ac unit. so we just decided to get a new one and let them install it. but sadly the same problem reaccurred and it turns out that some of our vents was just clogged up with pet dander and the system backed up. i was extremely upset that they werent honest enough to just tell us that and not rip us off of over a 3k dollar job. i would not suggest this company at all. any company that would rip you off like this should not gain our business. read more
