It was my fault not checking the reviews prior to hiring Milltown to repair my AC system. I have never felt the need to write a review before, but the service was so awful, hopefully this will prevent someone else from having my experience. I was charged $4500 to repair my AC unit. I was told that it was due to my thermostat causing the issue. Come to find out it was wired wrong (wired by Milltown previously). After 4 hours, the AC unit failed again. Milltown came out a 2nd time, and quoted me at least another $4000 to fix the actual problem, the refrigerant was leaking, but that cost could have gone up to $7000 depending where that leak was. They offered a bandaid fix for the time being. And the $4500 originally charged was just to clean the system, not actually make any repairs. This was not credited towards actually fixing the problem. We had our HVAC and tankless unit installed by MillTown in 2020 as part of a hydronic heating system. A month ago, the commercial‑grade tank they installed failed. Rheem covered the tank under warranty, but MillTown charged $5,800 for the replacement which was essentially a retrofit with minimal changes. After reviewing the work, it was clear the job should have been closer to $3,000 based on industry standards and actual scope. Unfortunately, the workmanship was disappointing. The system was left in a condition that doesn't reflect professional standards -- including a drain valve positioned against another pipe, making it impossible to drain the system properly. I provided photos and a detailed email to Milltown expressing these concerns. Their response was that there "wasn't much to do," and they offered only a $500 credit toward a future service. Given the excessive pricing and the quality of work, a credit for a future service wasn't a reasonable solution, and I declined it. Another concern: their website offers no way to contact the owner or any managers directly. For a company that presents itself as family‑run, that lack of transparency says a lot. Called for maintenance on a tankless heater, needed a flush and a replacement ignitor. Both techs that arrived were very polite. First question was, why two techs for an easy PM? The lead tech tried to sell us a maintenance plan to get any kind of reasonable discount. Overall, I found their prices way to high. No thanks!! Milltown...people still work for a living. We had a faucet start with a fast leak, and the water shut off was frozen open. We had to have the faucet and the shutoff replaced. They also sweated off one another valve and replaced it because it was near failure. They were on time, and had no problem installing the faucet we purchased. $1400 later, everything was working and they left. Within six weeks the water slowed to a stop. Left multiple messages about getting it fixed. A handyman team fixing another problem identified a bad elbow leading to the cold water and replaced it. Let me start by saying it was my fault for agreeing to allow them to do this work, but I'd like to highlight my experience for someone who is considering this company. From time to time, as a consumer, you need to put your trust in the experts to fix certain things in your house. I would run out of hot water in the shower in 30 seconds. I had them due the work only to find out, the more I looked into it what I was charged was greedy and unethical. I had a leaking pressure relief valve on my boiler. They informed me they would additionally need to replace the expansion tank. The customer service originally was very good. The tech was on time and performed the work well. Here's where the problem lies. The labor took 1 hour. The parts to replace will be pictured and totaled no more than $250. The work itself was incredibly straight forward. In total they charged me $2000 (invoice pictured) for this job. For 1 hours work, I was charged over $1700 in labor. $1700. I understand markup and paying for skilled labor however this is beyond extreme. I have a hard time respecting a company that willingly takes advantage of people like that. They claim this is because they only bill for flat rate work. EVERY individual thing they do on a job is charged flat rate (all of which are absurdly high), see invoice. I have used them for years, but can't justify it any longer. Even after speaking with management, this is not a reasonable rate to be charging individuals. I will no longer be using this company and would recommend another local solution. If you're to use this company, please question them before agreeing to anything and learn from my mistake. Ask for price breakdowns and shop companies such as Uptack and Sila. I can't fault the plumbers who worked in our bathroom as they were very nice and worked hard. But somebody goofed when ordering our replacement shower consule as one wall was too long for our space. was fit our space after the tub was demolished and all the tile broken. So after calling a Milltown and getting little response we called in a carpenter who was astonished they could leave it so damaged.. the company finally sent a carpenter to look the job over. He said they says they don't do carpentry. So why do they have a subcontractor carpenter? Bottom line advice is buyer beware. read more

I am writing to formally address a serious concern regarding the services provided by Milltown HVAC that I recently experienced. After serving in law enforcement for 40 years, helping people who have been scammed by fraudulent companies. I have never felt compelled to write a review about any service provider until now. Recently, I encountered an air-conditioning issue on my second floor and sought professional repair from Milltown plumbing. Upon the technician's arrival, he thoroughly inspected my system but failed to repair the issue. Instead, he presented me with an outrageous repair estimate exceeding $25,000. Shocked by the exorbitant cost, I took it upon myself to seek a second opinion. After contacting another HVAC professional with his own company, he promptly visited my home and resolved the problem. The repair consisted primarily of cleaning the Compressor system outside, after which my air conditioner began functioning perfectly. Based on this experience, I am compelled to state that Milltown appears to operate in a highly deceptive and untrustworthy manner. I strongly advise against using their services under any circumstances. It is my hope this warning will help others avoid falling victim to what I believe is one of the most blatant scams I have encountered. I'm updating a review from 1/7. We have a 6 zone boiler and one of the zones was not working. Milltown gave us 2 options for repairs, a $4000 fix and a $6000 fix. A sales rep showed up (in 30 minutes!) and gave us an estimate for $23,500 to replace the system. Yesterday A.Fagundes in Tyngsboro repaired our system for $1539. The work included flushing all 6 zones and adding new glycol, plus replacing a Spirovent air elimination head that was corroded. I needed to have a gas line pressure tested and also to have it inspected by the town plumbing inspector. Milltown was great! They handled everything. From the time that I contacted them until the job was completed was just a matter of days! Jordan was the plumber that did all of the work and he was very knowledgeable, and professional, he also explained everything before anything was done. Their initial quote was a bit higher than another company that I had received an estimate from and surprisingly they matched the quote! Beware predatory company! TLDR: Charged us 1000$ to snake a drain. Apparently charges 300$ an hour and takes over 3 hours to snake a drain. Called this company through our condo association to come unclog our main water drain. Young man who came to do the job told us that they sent him to 3 wrong houses before they found ours. Didn't seem like a big deal to us at first. He proceeded to unclog the drain in the basement using the mechanical drain. Took him maybe an hour to clear it and also ran our sinks and toilets to make sure we wouldn't have another problem. He was pleasant and efficient and cleaned the floor that leads to the basement, he was insistent on mopping the basement floor, but I told him I would take care of it. The young man left our house, however proceeded to sit in his running van, parked in my parking spot (I moved my car so he could have easier access to the front door to bring his equipment in and out) for about 20-30 mins. This normally wouldn't have bothered me, however our plow company was doing some clean up and they had no access to clear my space now that this van was parked there and not moving. I was unhappy to not have a plowed parking spot and thought that was rude of him considering he obviously saw the plow, but I had no issues with this service until I saw the bill. $1000 to snake a drain for an hour? When we inquired about the bill they told us that their rate is 300$ an hour and that the job took 3 hours. In my opinion, if it takes you 3 hours to snake a drain, then someone should be fired or retrained at their job. My assumption is that their scheme involved sending this young man to multiple wrong houses and him sitting in my driveway for a prolong period of time, so that they could charge us for 3 hours of "work." I am so thankful that I insisted on mopping my own floor (really just my personal preference to know its done the way I wanted it) because I'm sure they would've tacked on another hour and another 300$. We went back and forth with this company regarding the bill and they were incredibly rude and dismissive. I will absolutely never use this company ever again and will make sure that everyone I know doesn't as well. It's truly criminal that this company is allowed to get away with things like that and is unable to take any responsibility. So disappointed that people can be so greedy and cruel. My best advice is to find a reliable family or community plumber. Ya Fred that does not help considering we have tried over a week to handle this with our property manager and your business and our property manager also does not understand why it was billed like this. We had Milltown come in to repair our furnace. The technician fixed the problem and upsold another part because it "might" break in another 6 months. The overall repair was a bit expensive but we had not choice due to the cold and didnt have time to shop around. The biggest concern is that they tried selling us a maintenance plan for $9.95 Per month which we declined. However a month later our credit card was charged $9.95. I have called twice and was told they would message the finance team to remove us from the service billing and refund us. Over a week has gone by and no refund has been issued. I don't know if this is standard practice for this company to sneak people onto this service in hopes they dont notice the charge or if the technician snuck it in there hoping to make some incentive. I gave three stars because they finally got the job done and they have not had to come back over and over again like they had to when they originally installed the heat pump. The last time they came back was to program the thermostat. It was small overlooked things like that throughout the entire process. The best part of the entire working relationship was how knowledgeable the salesman was. Borderline pushy sales technique. I did choose them after careful consideration and I had a bad experience with the company. They don't even remember who you are as a customer. Much too large of a company to provide a supervised and complete job. Not one person had any idea of what had been done or what needed to be done! I really cannot understand the 1 star reviews here. For us, Milltown has been a lifesaver. When we needed a new gas hot water heater, Milltown was the company that responded to us right away. The plumber did an amazing job installing the new hot water heater, and we were very satisfied with that experience. When a bathroom faucet was dripping, we didn't think about calling anybody else. Milltown sent a technician right away. He offered to fix the leak or replace the faucet; we chose to have the faucet replaced. We told the plumber that we really wanted aged bronze to match the other fixtures in that bathroom, and he went out of his way to buy one that perfectly matched what we wanted. After the bathroom faucet, we decided we wanted to change up a shower head; again, we contacted Milltown and have been really happy so far. In October we decided we wanted central AC and to change over our heat from heating oil to gas. We contacted only Milltown for that job. They got back to us immediately and sent out a consultant, who priced out 3 different options for us. We chose an option, and they got started right away. They upgraded our electrical service to 200A, installed a state-of-the-art smart thermostat, added AC, changed over the heating system, and replaced most of our old duct work. The whole project was completed in roughly 4 days and has been life-changing. Most recently, we had a kitchen faucet literally break on us. Milltown came out at our convenience and installed a beautiful new and modern faucet. All of the technicians we have had here explained that Milltown 100% guarantees all of its work and materials (they only use plumber-grade Kohler, from my understanding). I'm not an expert, but I would say the prices are probably on the higher end of things. That said, top quality work with top quality materials, performed in a timely manner by highly qualified and friendly professionals is worth the money, in my humble opinion. read more

Had a toilet that ran constantly, and one that wouldn't retain water. Turned out the downstairs toilet (running constantly) was also flooding the basement. I had attempted to fix both toilets, didn't know about the basement at that time. I got billed for pulling both toilets, plus I got billed for the first toilet two times. My feeling was that if they had the toilet off already, why were they charging me for pulling it again? First toilet couldn't be reattached without fixing both issues, so billing me twice for pulling the toilet seemed redundant. Happy with the service, NOT happy with the pricing! read more

Had my "free" furnace inspection last week and the tech said I was getting slightly bad carbon monoxide numbers as well as another issue and he was going to red tag or yellow tag the furnace unless I had him clean it. Which ended up being $800 for an hour and a half of work. Now, he did a good job, that wasn't in question but I asked another friend in the business and he said they usually get $125 an hour for that type of work. I was supposed to get a "free" plumbing inspection but I cancelled it wondering how much that was going to cost and have them bully me into making the repairs. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the lack of competence with the people Milltown send out to do our job. We called them to repair our furnace in January and they convinced him to purchase a new one. When the technician was still at the house, my husband called me to update me on the situation and told me how much a new one would cost. I asked him to put the technician on the phone and told him that price was to high and asked what he could do. He said he would call the manager. A few minutes later he called me back, dropping the price by $1,000. Well that was easy, I thought. But then came all the problems. Milltown has needed to come back 4 times due to the poor installation for leaking pipes, excess condensation, and the furnace reservoir leaking into the unit. The final straw was yesterday (90 degrees) and we discovered our central air was not working. So a fifth visit from Milltown this morning was necessary, only to find out they wired the furnace wrong the first time. I would not hire them ever again and caution you to consider another company (unless you like calling for service constantly). Don't let the commercials fool you. They send untrained people to do your work, then apologize for the inconvenience of having to call them back time and time again to fix what they should have done right in the first place. read more

I used to like them. Use them for my big install of backup basement sump pump. This time, I was out of the country, my rental property in MA needs a toilet fix. It was a standard water tank leak and we need to replace the inside mechanism. Milltown came and said 'rebulid the toilet', my wife authorize them to do it as I was not reachable at the time their plumber was at the rental property. They were in and out according to my tenant for at most 45 min, rebuilding two toilet tank and fixed the leak. The bill came to be 1200, $600 a toilet. One line item on the receipt is $470 for the kit they use to replace the plastic mechanism inside the water tank. I casually google the kit, I can get a universal sup kit for the toilet to replace that for $20. I called them, manager came on gave me that talk - we did hundreds of toilet leak and we average all of them to come up with the cost for that line item, which includes (a) parts (b) labor (c) our service guarantee for a prompt and reliable service Say they charge $200 /hr labor, 1 hr for two toilet is $100 labor for 1 toilet (remember, the plumber was there like 30-45 min rebuilding the two toilet). Say total parts are $100 (with markup), we are talking about $200 for fixing the leak of 1 toilet. They charged almost $600 for one toilet. You can do that math. I expect some up charge, but I am not paying $300 just for getting prompt reliable service. I turned around and asked for a few reliable plumber quote from Thumbstack with great reviews, most can do the job for $200 labor and I can get them the universal kit they will be able to come on the same day. So maybe if you want Milltown to do bigger job, that is ok. For smaller job, it does not worth it. Replacing the toilet flush mechanism is really not rocket science in plumbing. If I am not thousands of miles away, I would have done it myself after watching some Youtube video. I am willing to pay up charge for the service, but this is really above and beyond the normal up charge range, $1200 for a 30 min job replacing the toilet flushing mechanism in the water tank!! read more

I would be wary of any place that won't include parts and labor on their initial quote, or their final invoice. Since they would not do it, I'll break down their cost below: 50 gallon hot water heater. ~$2,000 at supply house. (Yes, the model they chose was expensive) 3ft of copper pipe, a couple ball valves, and PVC: ~$200 Invoice: $5,300. Total parts: about $2,200. Actual labor hours: 4 Hourly rate: $775 The plumber himself was good to work with and did a good job. But I don't think they paid him more than $700 an hour. read more

Work consisted of adding a sub panel in garage for all garage and shed circuits and to add a dedicated circuit running off generator backup for a freezer in basement. Conner and Danny were very courteous and professional from job quote to project completion. Workmanship and clean up were exceptional. Had an issue with outside lamp post light remaining on after the electrical work; but Conner and Danny came back the next morning to fix the issue. Like other 1 star reviews have mentioned, this company offers cheaper than normal prices to get somebody at your house. On the phone, it all sounds good. However, when the tech gets to your house, you realize the situation quickly turns into way more than you expected. If you have an older heating system, and would like to have it serviced to get as much life as you can out of it, do not call this company. Your goal directly conflicts with theirs, which is to discover potential safety hazards and use them to drive sales. They will go as far as completely disabling your furnace without any discussion around potential impacts to the homeowner / residents. And then after manufacturing this moment of panic, they'll present a number of overpriced quotes to "save the day". After disabling your heating system, they'll even offer temporary electric space heaters "as long as there's a path to a sale"... You've been warned. read more

This time it was a broken toilet, last time it was a clogged line - they came when promised and did the job. The two men they sent were all you could ask for. A half hour before they came, we had a lot of water coming in the basement due to a huge rain storm. They worked all day with 4 people to get the pump installed and basement dried out. I had a horrible experience with this company. 1) When I called for a plumbing estimate to remove my disposal, the person who answered said the cost would be $85.00 which turned out not to be the case. This was just another tactic to get their foot in the door. 2) Before the job could be done, I was asked to pay up front an amount that was three times more than what was initially quoted for the job. There was no cost breakdown on the invoice - only a verbal estimate for the removal of the disposal and installation of a PVC drain pipe. 3) I called the office manager, Addy, for an explanation and asked if the costs included the job service trade fee of $85.00. She said she never heard of this fee and would talk with her finance manager about it. After waiting in vain for her response for two days, I called her up. She said she mailed me a cost breakdown . There was no mention of the job service trade fee of $85.00. Adding insult to injury, she audaciously copied my signature from the invoice and pasted it onto the bill. I alerted my credit card company not to pay Milltown. 4) After confronting Addy about her shoddy practice, she haughtily said that was what was on the invoice. I did not get any service from Milltown Plumbing, so I cannot speak to their work quality. But regarding attempting to schedule a job, they are in serious need of improvement. After scheduling a job (and paying 50% deposit)in late May/early June, I was told they were unable to arrive the next day to perform the work because they were/still are unable to work in my town. I called the town water department, and they had never heard of any restriction on who could and could not work in my town. Milltown told me that they would get everything squared away with the town the week after July 4th. I called the week after that and was told they would see how things had progressed. I finally got a call back, saying that the town situation had not been resolved and that maybe they could schedule me in September sometime (you know if they show up). Clearly they are too busy and making up poor excuses for blowing people off, go with another contractor that won't cancel the day before your scheduled job (you know that you took time off of work to be there for), and that won't be too busy to actually give you a professional job. read more

I dealt with three ppl all bad.. tech was on time same day that's awesome.. he quoted two prices 400 or a higher quality repair for 900.. I went with the better grade repair rather than cheaping on it. An hour later they yell at me to explain why that solution they told me would fix it doesn't and how now I need another person to come and that cost me 85 bucks.. the next guy equally unprofessional indicated by lack of use of dirty shoe covering booties an indicator of a professional. He said it would take 15k to replace and offered no itemized quote or even looked at the machine I would have them adjust the screw on my hamsters wheel if I had one. Ok that's terrible right? I called and complained.. then the service manager called what does he do? No apologies no refund he's trying to still pitch me on a 3x or more expensive rate for a simple repair on a tank of a unit running solidly for 20 years limited or no issue. After their repairs doesn't run... I've had better luck with New Era honestly they're just as fast but they send a photo of technician document with video not photos and are generally more honest with a service guarantee. That I like.
