I find them especially the older woman behind counter to be unfriendly and rude . I took out a cake from the freezer ..yes there is a sign that said ask for help..this woman freaked out yelling "don't touch "!!!. "Ok too late now "!!' It was unnecessary and hilarious at the same time since me and my brother still bring it up all the time and crack up. It's always been like that there. Not the most welcoming place . Had to update my review because out of all the times I've been here I finally found something I wasn't pleased with. I got "tiramisu" slices the other day and it was just a vanilla sheet cake with vanilla cream layered and a cocoa powder dusting. I could tell from looking at it in the case that it wasn't lady fingers but I thought atleast the cake might be soaked in espresso. There was indeed no espresso in it and it just tasted like a vanilla cake with cocoa powder. I still stand by thenm and would recommend people to go there, just don't get the "tiramisu" read more

We used to go to Dixie-lee, which seems to forget who their loyal customers were. We had a few big holiday orders and J&M helped us out in a pinch. They were helpful, and reasonable price wise. The product was fresh and delicious. Because of that we did a personal small birthday cake for the family... it was a hit. It should be noted it was a special order done to perfection. Walking in to the bakery is an experience in itself. The smells and all the cakes just elicit old world bakery feel and atmosphere, the staff are sweet and smiling. Can't make this stuff up. I went in for the first time today to check it out and ended up buying a few things. But in the middle of my selection process, I got a very important phone call. Mind you, I was the only person in the store, and was on the phone for less than 30 seconds when the elderly woman behind the counter started giving me dirty looks and then telling me "$15!" DURING my call!? She wanted me to stop my phone call and pay for the two items I had, when I wasn't even finished selecting! Not only completely rude, but terrible business! Italian rainbow cookies were delicious, and I absolutely LOVED the cannoli. BUT, wife went at like 3 on a Friday and they were out of lobster tails and had no carrot cake. Gotta keep that stocked up! Stopped into this local bakery on my way to dinner at a friends house who lives in Middletown. The small bakery is right off the highway, so very easily accessible. When you arrive you'll be overwhelmed by the hundreds of sweet treat choices. From cakes to cookies to pizza dough, J&M has something for everyone. The woman who worked behind the counter was very helpful in her treat suggestions. I ended up going with a marbled crumb cake, which my guests loved. For me, it could've been a tad more moist. I also ordered a few different flavored rugelach pastries. I was a bit disappointed with these, as they tasted stale and not as fresh as I would've liked them. I would give J&M another shot and try some of their other options. If you're in a pinch looking for a late night bakery, try this place! read more

They make a custom cake for my mother's 100th birthday. She had a very specific request for type of cake, type of filling and especially "real whipped cream" on top. The cake was perfect! It looked beautiful and tasted even better. We had over 75 senior citizens all of whom said it was one of the best cakes they had ever eaten. The other baked goods looked and smelled amazing. We have getting our Italian cookies here for years. The chocolate and jelly sandwich cookies are the best. The cookie is a delicious shortbread and there is so much filling...best ever. The pastry was delicious. Four of us came in to purchase items for Father's Day. One young lady was the only person waiting on everyone. Another girl ignored us, and just didn't place the cookies. Another person came out of the kitchen, and looked at us, rolled her eyes and went back in the back again so while the food and pastry items was delicious, the service was very very poor in the end, I chose not to buy anything because obviously they didn't need my money because I didn't even take the time to wait on us. A top notch Italian bakery in an Unassuming (to say the least) spot tucked in back in a small strip mall in Middletown on 35. The landmark to find it is Bottle King liquor store. It has the freshest large variety of Italian cookies and pastries in the Two River area. They also have good breads, mainly Italian. The prices are reasonable, the people friendly, and the hours great. I have never gotten a stale or otherwise unacceptable item from them. read more

Came here for the first time today and had the sandwich cookie with jam inside and powdered sugar on top (you can find it in the shelf closest to the food, 1-2 shelves from the top). Oh. My. Gosh. The cookie literally MELTED in my mouth. There was also the perfect amount of jam inside too! For 6 of them, it cost ~$5/6 which is not that bad considering! Will definitely be back! read more

I've been to this bakery on multiple occasions, but it took me longer to write a review just because I'd really would have liked to give it a higher rating. The workers are so nice here, and I even met one of the bakers who was really nice as well. I still plan on being a customer here because I absolutely love their jelly filled, peanut butter filled, and fudge cookies! That's this bakery's strong point it's their stuffed cookies. Those are great to come in for, and perfect for parties or just to enjoy some for yourself like I do. They use a thick layer of filling than the other bakeries do too, and it's just so good! My next favorite item is definitely their almond scone with cannoli filling it's also delicious! Unfortunately, I can't recommend them for cakes though. I had a chocolate cheesecake which wasn't good, and it didn't even taste like cheesecake, the carrot cake was just below average, and the mousse cheesecake was the better out the three and decent. I had a peanut butter tart which was very good before. For Italian pastries I was sadly disappointed the St Joseph pastries tasted too refrigerated and tasted stale. The lobster tail was the worst of all. It was much too thick, hard, and way too refrigerated tasting as well. I had too throw the lobster tail in the garbage it was that bad. The fig cookie was very bad which I'm so surprised they would even try to sell them. They should go to La Dolce in Old Bridge and taste how a real fig cookie and pastries are suppose to taste. Also trying Normandie bakery for cakes in Hazlet will help to improve these items and get better ideas. The Napoleon was just average. It needed a better filling and a sweeter icing. The chocolate rugelach I had today was so stale I had to toss it out after one bite. I also had a brownie with cannoli filling and the cannoli filling was good, but the brownie didn't taste like a brownie. I can highly recommend them for their stuffed cookies for sure they are amazing! Also try the almond scone it's another top item. But for Italian pastries or cakes as of now I say buy elsewhere for those items unless they plan on getting new recipes and providing them fresh for customers. Been going here my whole life. The baker/owner, Joe, will make anything you can want- when I was little he would make an individual banana cream pie for me when my family would get some sort of cake. I was allergic to chocolate, and this way I got to be included in family celebration. Went back recently, he made me 2, and said there needs to be a sign that says: "If you don't see something, just ask" He also recently tried (French?) mousse canolis- I had them the first day they were being sold, and they were amazing.
