Was reluctant to leave this review but it's happened too many times I've come here. First, the aggressiveness of the associate the minute you step into the store they are asking what you want. My hand wasn't even off the door from entering before one girl ran to the counter and said can I help you. I said please give me a few minutes. There are a lot of things to choose from. Also the associates are not friendly at all and act annoyed, like you are bothering them. Zero personalities. Young girls I'd say all in their 20's. Second, the pastries all taste the same and were not fresh. You can tell a fresh pastry from one that's been sitting in the case for days. These ones I purchased were days old. This place is pricey; the items should be fresh. I stopped going to Caputo's years ago because they are also subpar. Long gone are the good bakeries. read more

Should have taken pics of my crumb cake. First time here. Delightful cozy fresh bakery. Has a good mix of sweet and breads and even bagels. Only had the crumb cake which was fluffy then crunchy fresh on the crumbs part. Coffee was very good too. Will be back! Friendly low key service. read more

I totally agree with the other review from Joe they are snippy and snappy as soon as you try to order something and want you to hurry quickly always dislike that However, the scones raisin scones were the only thing I went there for most weekends . I just tried to order some for Saint Patrick's party and they're telling me they don't make them all the time and they're not taking an order for them. I said I understood that however you don't make wedding cakes all the time, but you take orders for them and specialty cakes . The manager said yeah that's right, but we cannot make them and we're not taking an order. Who is a woman? I don't know her name. Don't really want to know her name. is the rudest most ignorant uneducated person you can ever speak with. Oh my God she needs to be thought some serious manners, big time !!! has no idea how to speak to people just classless!! Talk about a lousy pastry shop. I will not be going here again. The Pastry Chef has always been my go-to bakery (12 yrs) when I'm in the area. They're a full service bakery w/great presentation and freshly-made product. I ordered a buttered egg bagel w/caffe. Very crispy. I cannot review the cakes here due to the fact of never having ordered one, but I can say from previous visits that the pastries were very fresh. The bakery is super clean as it should. My wife and I have been coming here for many many years and the cakes and pastries and cookies are simply amazing! I admire their consistency. The cake is not too sweet, just right. We tried a new vanilla cake last night and it was drool-worthy. In my never ending search for the best crumb cake on the Jersey Shore, I may have found the winner at Pastry Chef. I have tried many, but I think theirs is just perfect, with a perfect balance of crumb to cake and moistness. Also, the girls up front are always attentive and polite and do a great job. Just FYI, some of the girls have better handwriting than others, in case you need lettering on your cake. Love this place. read more

This would be a 5 star review if my cake wasn't spelled wrong and I wasn't told that it was, in fact, spelled correctly and that is what an "N" is supposed to look like. Someone needs to go back to where they learned piping and fire that instructor or that instructor needs to learn their alphabet. Clearly something was smuged off of the cake or someone messed up while decorating the cake but played off that it was right. Take a look at the picture and see for yourself. "Comgratulatioms" should have an "M" in it. Compare it to the "M" in my name. I see no difference. Otherwise the cookies from here are delicious and the best in the area. These reviews are nonsense. I am a tough critic and their pastries are high quality, consistent, fresh, and delicious. The only things I haven't been a fan of are the carrot cake and the cannoli cream (too spiced for my liking, I prefer more of a vanilla flavor to my cream). Everything else has been outstanding. Pastry chef breaks from the crowd and for the most part doesn't disappointment. You can start out with their breakfast pastry the croissants, danish, coffee cake are all delicious and are big enough for two. Beware the bagels they aren't the best and seem to harden fast. The cakes and pies are a crowd pleaser, never have I served a cake or brought one as a hostess gift and not been asked," Where did you get this... fill in the blank". I have hit gold everytime. I think the coffee could be a bit better and a I wish they would bring back their old adorably decorated cupcakes. Overall, I think the place is definitely worth a try. read more

We had our wedding at the Crystal Point where Tinton Falls Pasty Shop provided our wedding cake. After the tasting at the CP, we were given a box of different cakes to take home. Everything was so tasty, it was hard to make a decision. Ultimately, we decided on white cake with cannoli cream and raspberry preserves, a little unconventional, we know. Nonetheless, the Tinton Falls Pastry Shop created our idea, and it was a massive HIT with our guests. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eating it now while I write this. We gave them a picture to our Maitre'D for inspiration and it looked exactly how we dreamed. Honestly, out of this world! We'll definitely be making trips to this bakery for years to come! read more

Went in today and ordered two Cannoli and two carrot cake squares. Rather than filling up the cannoli when purchased, they fill them up ahead of time and the pastry surrounding the filling was like damp paper towels, not crispy at all like they're supposed to be. The carrot cake squares were equally as bad. The cake itself was dry and lacking in flavor and the cream cheese icing was almost all sugar and seemed like it had spent way too long in the cold case. After tasting one of each, I threw the remaining items into the garbage can. Keep on driving past this bakery, nothing good to be had here! read more

Started out not being a fan - I just moved to the area and was looking for a new bakery as I have a lot of events coming up this summer. I brought in a line drawing for the top of a cake and the young girls working in the front were not the most pleasent nor very helpful and I nearly cancelled. I am so glad I didn't! The cake turned out amazing -chocolate with fudge filling and icing - wow, so moist and delicious. And the line drawing came out so adorable! I was thrilled with all of if and also found the prices to be very reasonable. I will definitley order from them again. I believe this place needs a good rating. I ordered four cannoli, tiramisu, and two strawberry cheesecakes. The desserts are good. Tiramisu didn't taste the rum. So if you don't like bitter then get this tiramisu. I personally think these cakes are good but I wish it had less sugar. I like desserts were there's barely any sweet tastes. I found the Pastry Chef one day as a result of our usual bakery not taking an order that I wanted filled. I was very pleasantly surprised. The cake we ordered (a coconut lemon) was fresh, tasty and did not have a lot of off-putting heavy buttercream icing on it (which I have found is fairly common). Our guests gave many compliments on the cake! On other occasions we have purchased the chololate bundt cake with chocolate filling...also excellent! and the brownies, all very good. The only other feedback for the Pastry Chef would be that once in a while one of the girls behind the counter has a bit of an attitude. I don't mind the attitude, I find it amusing, but I can see how other customers would focus on that part of the experience. So, some customer service training may be warranted. With that said, overall the staff have been very nice and the place is very clean, which we can all appreciate. Looking forward to my next cake! read more

This is a great little neighborhood bakery. I go there at least once a week. Every Sunday for dinner bread and once a month for the bagels. They're great not too big and overwhelming. My husband ordered my Valentine/birthday cake and it was dry or maybe stale. We brought it back and the manager (Tiffany) and the store owner cut it all up and said there were some dry areas but that was normal. HELLO!!!! That is totally unacceptable, cakes should never be dry, especially at $22.00. The manager was snippy and reluctantly gave me a store credit (which I will not use). I can assure you, I will never step foot in that place again. You don't treat customers that way and I would warn anybody against shopping there. Let me start off by saying I was a loyal customer for 6+ years, ever since I moved into Tinton Falls. They made my wedding cake (with several hundred in upcharges), my gender reveal cake, many holiday and birthday cakes as well as pastries to bring to family gatherings. Heck, they even follow me on IG. So I never expected to be treated the way I was when ordering my daughter's first birthday cake. When I went in to buy my husband's birthday cake on 2/22, I asked them if they could do a unicorn cake for my daughter's party on 3/31 - I was told to call them a week before and it would be no problem (I've done this before with cakes from them so didn't think twice about it, plus they've done the cake before). So, that's what I did and was then told my order could not be placed because they were focusing only on Easter cakes, so if I wanted a custom bunny cake, they would do it (ha!). I relayed my exchange from the month prior and after I asked to speak to a manager (who wouldn't get on the phone), was told they will do the cake but I have to buy the horn, ears & eyelashes elsewhere for them to put on instead of them being made out of fondant. I said I will call back if I can find them, which I did on Amazon, and placed the cake order over the phone with a sweet girl. She let me know of the initial cost, took my credit card info and said she will have someone call me back if there are any upcharges - she also advised the owner decided the cake decorator could not put the accessories on the cake and I would have to do it (I was initially going to drop them off). The next day, I get a call from Tiffany. Oh boy, that Tiffany. She has an attitude that could make anyone's blood boil. She let me know of the upcharges, which were crazy - I.e. they have to make the cake a little taller so they charge more, if I want swirls as the unicorn mane instead of flowers, that costs more, etc. To offset the rising cost of the cake, I asked what the serving size would be of the cake one size smaller. Tiffany huffed and puffed in the phone, stating they were very busy in the store and she doesn't have this info readily available to give me and I was wasting her time. I asked her why she has such a horrid attitude towards me and she simply exclaimed "we shouldn't even be doing this cake for you, we are doing you a huge favor." Oh, is that so, Tiffany? I'm paying you a ridiculous amount of money for a cake which I gave more than a month's notice for AND giving you business -- and YOU are doing ME a favor? The end result: called up The Chocolate Carousel in Wall, they happily took my order, made all the accessories from scratch without any upcharges, made the cake taller without any upcharges, made the swirls without any upcharges and had the most pleasant attitude in dealing with me!! My daughter had the most gorgeous unicorn cake for half the price of the Pastry Chef and without the headache. My family will never set foot in the Pastry Chef again. read more

I have a problem with any counter business that makes people feel uncomfortable not leaving a tip. I am a generous tipper but I do not tip counter help. In the past I have had a counter person pick up the tip jar and rattle it in front of my face. I just came from Pastry Chef where the young girl saw I was not going to tip and she tossed the order on the counter in front of me. Really, do these people tip gas station attendants who stand out in the elements filling up there car. I bet not!! There, I feel better. read more
