There's an old school charm to this bakery, for sure, and I've always found the staff to be helpful and pleasant. While businesses come and go in this area all the time, J&M is a mainstay. From the breadsticks, to the cakes, to the pignoli cookies, everything they make is fantadtic. This place has that awesome old school feeling. The kind that you walk in and it brings back memories of 20 years ago. With an old school cash register, pictures from the 80s and 90s, and a homely feel. It also helps that it smells amazing. Wife absolutely loves this place, so whenever I visit in NJ, I am sure to stop in and grab some delicious pastries. It's fresh and cheap! Came here after my daughters christening cake was destroyed and they came through! Great customer service and even put a little cross on the cake. This review is soley based on customer service and not the food that they serve. I live in Florida and am planning to throw my daughter's first birthday in NJ. I called up the bakery to get an estimate on a small smash cake and about 5-6 dozen cupcakes. On the smash cake, I just wanted 3 or 4 crabs made out of fondant. He told me I had to come in so he can see what I'm taking about. After explaing that I live in Florida, I asked for an email address so I can email the picture. He tells me that they don't have email and there is no one I can send it to. I said, so you really can't help me? No..sorry. I am amazed that they are willing to lose business because they can't come up with an email address so I can send a picture. read more

We just moved to the area from NYC..I'm Italian, my husband is from Brooklyn - so lets just say we are familiar with Italian bakeries. This place is warm, welcoming, and their displays are flawless. And even better, their cookies are amazing!! I ordered a box of assorted cookies - and they melt in your mouth! So fresh and delicious. This is our new staple bakery! amazing cookies and pastries. im originally from brooklyn and it's hard to find a good bakery here in NJ. They can be found every few blocks in brooklyn. and they are open until 9 for all of your craving and last minute sweet gifts. only thing is, i saw one of the younger girls working there setting out cookies with hands, then ringing me up and taking my credit card. i mentioned that she shouldn't be handling the cookies and making transactions.she said she washed her hands which wasn't comforting. a little gross in opinion especially now with covid i dont want to see that read more

Smells like the bakeries,of my childhood. But not just a nostalgia trip. The sheet cake they made on special order for my mother-in-law's 100th birthday on two weeks' notice was delicious and reasonably priced. Heard so much about this bakery that I had to try it. Even though the bakery was busy(it was holiday season), I was immediately spotted by the two gossipy teenage workers as the "new kid in town" and made to feel as such. Was rushed as to what I wanted, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I didn't feel the selection was great and the cookies everybody is raving about didn't look tempting. Anyways, I purchased a cake and a pie. The pie was rather bland and the cake was a bit stale. I realize maybe that is why it was kept in the refrigerator instead of the showcase like other bakeries keep that kind of cake. Like I said, I just wanted to try it based on reviews. The owners are from Brooklyn and they make legit cookies and pastries here. Everything is always fresh and everyone is always friendly. Get the cream puffs with french cream. Went there yesterday to get some pastries based on their reviews on Yelp. I ordered some miniature Italian pastries and rainbow cookies. On my first bite of one of the Italian pastries I found a hair. I didn't even bother trying out the rest. My sister was the one who tried out the rainbow cookies ("good") and some of the other pastries ("we've had better"). I will not be returning. read more

After trying the big name newcomer, I thought I'd try this one. Ordered a handful of items (napoleon, rugalach, linzer tart, and cannoli) and I was very pleased. Fresh, delicious, buttery. The staff was pleasant and the prices reasonable. I eyed a few other things that I want to try like sfogliatelle, and foccacia. The almond biscotti are so addicitive you can't stop once you've started crunching down on them. And if you're like me from Brooklyn and you crave Ricotta Cheesecake, stop ordering those overpriced frozen restaurant cheesecakes! (Oh, you didn't know they are all frozen and mass produced?
