We first contacted J&R NW Construction for an estimate while we were looking for contractors to assist us with several of our home renovation projects. We had three different major projects to get bids upon and Julio was one of the several construction company representatives who responded to our calls. He was on time for our in home meeting and impressed us with his attention to detail while considering the work and materials needed to complete the jobs. Julio was able to give us a comprehensive bid on each of the projects (flooring, siding and construction of an external awning/sun shade) detailing a prospective time schedule if we chose to hire his company. He was also able to offer us a discount if we decided to hire his company to complete all of the projects. This made good sense to us as it would save confusion in resources like dumpsters, vehicle parking, porta potties, ETC if we had different entities working at the same time. The work contract was easy to understand and there were no surprises throughout the whole process. Julio also provided all the necessary legal documents to show he had proper licensing and insurance for his company and workers. All the individual workers who Julio sent to our home were professional, courteous and efficient. The building supplies were ordered properly and we were promptly notified about the impending deliveries The demolition and removal of our old poor quality siding was done quickly and skillfully and at the end of every workday, the workers cleaned every bit of scrap and all the sharp nails and pieces of wood that would have been a hazard to us and out pets. The siding crew that wrapped our stripped house was great and the crew that cut and attached the Hardie board siding was amazing in their skillful technique. The painters did an excellent job and got everything right, down to the smallest of details. The awning project was initially not what my wife expected but Julio quickly understood and directed his crew to make the necessary improvements getting it just right. The same work ethic and and attention to detail was applied to the removal of our old, worn-out and stinky downstairs carpeting. After stripping the floors bare, the cement was leveled and prepped for the tile we had chosen from the business that Julio had recommended. The relatively big area was tiled, sealed and new baseboard was attached. During the entire renovation project, Julio was in constant contact with us and he was onsite at least once if not several times a day while the workers were present. The payment plan was clear and simple with no unexpected surprises at the end. I would highly recommend J&R NW Construction for anyone considering a construction or renovation project in the Portland area and would definitely hire the company again for any future projects. read more

Couldn't recommend J&R NW Construction enough! We hired J&R NW Construction to work on our aging detached garage. We had been noticing an increase in water intrusion as well as the structure not being sealed from pests. Julio, the business owner, came out to the property to get us a bid and was collaborative from the start. We ultimately landed on replacing siding, patching roof, adding flashing, and also cleaning up the interior of the garage to make sure no pests could enter. Julio's ability to listen to our needs and promptly respond to all messages I sent, while also adjusting the scope (and corresponding bid) made the difference to us. Not to mention it was all at a fair price. It was refreshing to have a team truly listen to our wants and quickly address any of our questions. I hired J&R NW Construction for an extensive exterior project on my home - they installed new Hardie board siding and replaced soffit, fixed all dry rot, installed a new front picture window and two smaller windows on the side of the house next to the garage, installed new gutters, and completed an exterior paint job. It was a privilege to work with the owner, Julio Ramirez, who was very kind and reassuring about the work that needed to be done, as well as communicating with me often about any unexpected issues that came up along the way or any added work/cost. Julio always provided me with detailed information about any extra work that needed to be done and sought approval before proceeding. What immediately stood out to me was that after I had initially contacted Julio and left a message about the work I needed done, he very quickly called me back and offered to come out the next day to assess the project and provide me with a bid in a timely way. Even though it was very late in the season (early September) Julio and his team were more than willing to begin working right away in order to get my house ready for the rainy season which I appreciated immensely! Since I had contacted J&R NW Construction so late in the season, I had neglected to request a permit from my Homeowners Association for the project. Even though his crew had already started demoing the old siding off of my house, Julio was very accommodating when I explained that I would need to get a permit from my HOA before continuing. He let me know that they would wrap the house with WRB to protect it from water and begin installing the new siding after I'd received approval from my HOA. Recently hired the team for some investigation and remediation on an external wall that looked to be leaking. After a quick walk through, they got to work. They finished the work in half the time estimated and, when they discovered mold as well, we were able to work out a good deal for remediation on that as well. We began by hiring Julio and his crew to replace siding on our garage. When they finished, we mentioned that we needed the exterior of our house painted. After completing that, they repaired and replaced posts on our patio cover, power washed and painted the woodwork and fiberglass cover. It looks like new and we have far more light than before. When they completed the exterior of our house, we asked if they also did interior work. We needed help in refinishing our primary bathroom. They removed some woodwork, replaced the counter and sink/countertop, repaired and recovered the floor, repaired and repainted the walls and replaced the tub and shower head. We now have a new bathroom. Julio and his team were courteous, professional and hard working. They consulted with me about each step of the tasks and their workmanship was excellent. Our family engaged Julio's team (a family affair) to remediate water that was entering our home and resulting in mold growth behind our walls. They came the same day we called them, gave us a report on the issues and a detailed estimate of what it would take to bring it back to normal. Their team communicated every day about status of arrivals, even notifying us if they were going to be late. The quality of their work has been exceptional.
