Although it was a cold and wet Alaskan night, inside was warm and comfy. We were seating pretty immediately even though it was packed, and our friend (who so graciously drove us here) recommended we try their Yak Burger. Usually I let my camera eat first, but the burger smelled so good, I ended up devouring it before I could even take a picture. One of the best burgers I've had in my life. The beers too were delicious. There's something for everyone here from light lagers to heavy stouts and even fruity ciders. You can't go wrong. Highly recommend stopping by 49th State Brewing.

After 15 minutes of sitting with no service we moved to the bar. Strike 1. We ordered dinner at the bar. Diane ordered Alaskan Salmon and got Cod. Strike 2. They brought her Salmon and it was raw. The manager came by to apologize and even said, "we don't serve sushi here'" Strike 3. They brought her Salmon and again and as you can imagine, it was overcooked and dry. That went back and the manager once again apologized and said' "I need to teach these guys how to cook salmon." Strike 4. Diane had a bowl of soup but by then the entire dinner experience was trashed after a great day of hiking in Denali.

Our entire experience at Overlook was confusing and disappointing that continued after our visit…read more I had reservations and after being seated, received a text on my phone that I can order on Toast.   Am I supposed to order on Toast or via our server since we had a physical menu? We ordered with our server who kept trying to push alcoholic drinks. Honestly, not everyone wants to be drinking every day even if they're on vacation.   We ordered the Smoked Alaskan King Salmon Dip for appetizer, the curried halibut, and the king salmon.  The dip was missing the cucumber slices which would have been a refreshing balance to the buttery ritz crackers which already seemed like an odd pairing.  The two entrees were just okay as the king salmon was surprisingly dry vs. moist as king salmon normally is.  The real disappointment was the Baked Alaska I was so looking forward to.  It barely had any ice cream that I thought they forgot about, until I was halfway through and found some melted in the middle.  When I asked about it, they said, oh, it sometimes melts if the flame was too close as they were toasting it. The brownie was dry and stale and there was just way too much meringue to filling ratio.   As I was walking to the parking lot, I received a text that I was signed up for the 49th State Brewer's Circle loyalty account that they never told me about. Deciding to make the most of it, I dined at 49th State Brewing the next day and it was assumed that since we were paying with the same card, it would automatically add the rewards.  Nope, they did not link our card when they signed us up without being asked so I was out of reward points on an almost $200 bill.  When we dined for the third time at 49th State at the airport where we could've used those rewards from that previous $200 bill, we tried again and they had to do it manually since it did not automatically add the reward due to Overlook's oversight.  Maybe that should've been the name of this place.

Alaskan Cuisine w/ Denali Views [Denali Park AK]…read more After visiting Denali National Park we stopped by to dine here before heading home. We didn't have any reservations but we were kindly accommodated immediately. The restaurant is considered a fine-dining establishment up on Sugarloaf Mountain with a cabin-like setting and ambiance. The restaurant is located in the Crow's Nest Resort. Jan (pronounced Yan) was our server. Friendly and entertaining young man from Czech Republic. We headed up the stairs that led to an outdoor patio. It was cold and rainy so we opted to sit indoors. We still had nice mountain views of the Alaska Range from the huge windows. Hubby had the Cheddar and Bacon-Stuffed Burger while I chose a seafood dish, the Grilled Alaskan Salmon. Alaska has some of the most delicious seafood for grilling. Yum! the meaty texture gave the salmon a bit more bite compared to leaner types of fish. I wonder if the fish was a sockeye salmon. Great service, great food. Shout out to Jan for a pleasant dining experience at the Overlook. Review #3140

The first day I got the salmon chowder (highly recommend) with a caesar side salad. I also got the turkey pot pie which had such a buttery, flakey crust. The sauce of the pot pie is heavy on black pepper but I didn't mind. The next morning I got an oat milk latte and a piece of strawberry rhubarb coffee cake which they heated up for me which was a nice touch and a good start to a day of hiking. The second night we went here for dinner even though we weren't staying here, and I got the meatloaf, chili, and brussel sprouts. All of the food was delicious, the meatloaf was a bit dry but the whipped potatoes were incredible. The brussel sprouts were also nice and crispy and delicious with goat cheese and bacon. Definitely recommend!

EXCELLENT FOOD: Terrible service:…read more I just want to start by saying the food was excellent. The kitchen absolutely did its job. The service, however, was terrible enough to have to make a review. Our server, Kat, acted like our table was an inconvenience from the moment we sat down. My sister was dining with her 1-year-old child, and when we asked for a high chair, Kat rolled her eyes, grabbed one, and dropped it off on the opposite side of the table from where the baby was actually sitting. No offer to help, no kindness, no basic courtesy. The attitude only got worse from there. Every time we needed something, we were met with eye rolls, annoyance, and the feeling that we were bothering her simply for asking her to do her job. We even noticed the same behavior toward other tables, so it clearly wasn't a one-time misunderstanding. When I ordered an iced latte, I asked what syrup options were available because there were no drink menus at our table. Instead of answering a completely reasonable question, Kat acted irritated that I dared to ask. Customers shouldn't be expected to magically know what you offer. I understand that everyone has bad days, but if you dislike interacting with guests this much, hospitality may not be the right industry for you. No customer should be made to feel unwelcome for asking for a high chair, ordering a drink, or requesting basic service. It's incredibly disappointing because the food was honestly amazing. But amazing food doesn't excuse rude service. There are too many restaurants serving great meals to spend my money somewhere I'm treated like an inconvenience. Good food gets people through the door once. Great hospitality is what keeps them coming back.
