What a nice find! This is a friendly funky neighborhoodish pub that serves up some pretty good food and drink at pretty good prices. I've been in a couple times in the past months. I had a steak tip salad that, I have to say, was absolutely heavenly. The steak tips were cooked as ordered. Deliciously marinated, buttery tender and nicely seared over a most excellent salad. What makes a salad "most excellent?" you might ask. Well, I'll tell you. It was dressed perfectly. Just the right amount of a flavorful house dressing. Neither dry nor sopping. The generous portions of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, and more were all in a perfect proportion to one another, chopped small enough to render a knife unnecessary, except for the steak tips. Last time in, I chose the Fusilli Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork. Not only was this extremely good, it was extremely large. It provided dinner for me for two nights. There seem to be a lot of regulars here, at least in the Mondays I've been in. And the place is hopping busy. The music is good. Maybe a little loud, but, hey, I'm old. They're a jovial and friendly lot. And, Becca, the bartender, is super chill. She's friendly, attentive and she mixes a good drink and pulls a good draft. I guess I was too hungry to take pictures that weren't blurry - but not pictured is a burger- so good- and a steak too Caesar salad. My mother got the fisherman's plate. I've driven by this place so many times, but never went. After hopping off 93, my parents and i decided to give it a go. I'd first like to say that the staff were amazing. My father is legally blind and they were quite accommodating. We got in on Friday around 7:30. I'll say that the food came out relatively quickly. The fisherman's plate was packed with fried haddock, fries, and onion rings! So much food! But what I appreciated most was that there was some slight seasoning on the fish. I'm not a fan of fried fish baskets that's are just dipped in batter and fried, and I don't like overboard seasoning. This was just right. I opted for a steak too Cesar salad. The "greens" were a little too coated in the dressing, I should have asked for dressing on the side- but the steak tips were marinated to perfection! SO GOOD. My father got the classic burger and he enjoyed it. Even for a well done patty, it was still moist and juicy. Every time I go to Grimsbys I have a positive experience. The food is always amazing, really good comfort/pub style, always cooked right. The service is equally as good. Every server that I've had is personable and friendly.The overall atmosphere is always nice as well with both a lounge and more "formal" dining side depending on the environment you prefer. Bread and butter, chips and salsa , Fritos whatever ?! Not picky but it should not be a heavy lift if alcohol is served. No food at this place whatsoever after 9:30 which to me is a bit ridiculous. The food and the service here consistently sucks! 1. Don't take food allergies seriously - salad with no croutons for gluten free person served with croutons on, brought back a "fresh" one, person got sick 2. Took already delivered food to a different person - tenders at the bar. 2 minutes later person on other side of the bar orders tenders. 5 minute later tenders come out placed in front of me with the wrong sauce. 5 minutes of waiting until I can ask bartender for correct sauce, says that's not my order, takes the plate in front of me and puts in front of the other people on the other end of the bar. 10 minutes later I got mine. 3. Put an opened beer back in the fridge - ordered a miller lite bottle. Bartender cracked a bud bottle, I said sorry miller lite actually, she proceeded to try to put the bottle cap back on and put the beer back in the fridge to serve to someone else later Service is slow, unfriendly, portions are small, everything is overpriced, nothing feels clean or trustworthy...... read more

I'm particular when it comes or food. And we LOVED this place. In all my - our - reviews, we try to be as honest and forthcoming, based on our perspective and personal experience as we can. I know experiences can vary depending on the day or time, or situation. BUT, this place was hard to criticize. I'm a big guy and when we went in they sat us in a booth. It was tight and I asked if we could move to the bar area and a table there with chair stools - absolutely - no problem and they were VERY nice about it. The waitress was so nice and pleasant. Really just very nice. The young lady at the register or counter when you come in... just very sweet and pleasant. We ordered the 'fish and chips' and the 'steak tips,' EXCELLENT - see pictures. They became busy and still it was good service and pleasant. The fish and chips was BIG and really tasty. NOT greasy. The steak tips were delicious. We got the veggie mix and mashed potatoes. We heard their 'prime rib' sells out by 6 pm and that it's pretty darn good. Have to try it. We found the bathrooms to be spotless and CLEAN. Overall can't say anything negative. I took a friend to eat dinner at J J Grimsby & Restaurant and Pub, the hostess was very friendly taking us to our seats, and the server was great taking our orders, I ordered the Cape Cod Chicken, and in my opinion, the chicken was over cooked, to bland, soggy stuffing and the cranberry sauce and butter nut squash made the chicken to sweet, to me the food was rushed out of the kitchen, I was very dissapointed when I order my dessert, I ordered a hot fudge sundae, there were no walnuts, cherry on top, the hot fudge sundae only had hot fudge sauce, whip cream, me and my friend agreed this will be the first and last time we eat at J J Grimsby & Restaurant and Pub. read more

Stopped by here for an early date night dinner. Got the pretzel app- came with mustard seed sauce and a beer cheese, all delicious. French onion soup was excellent. Bacon blue burger was great, love when places put blue cheese crumples on top. Good atmosphere, families, couples, older couples. Our waitress was super friendly, food came quick. This pub, which straddles the Stoneham Melrose boarder, attracts a great group of people most who seem to live in either Melrose or Stoneham. The food is consistent , the drinks are great and the staff they're very friendly. For those of us here during the winter there is no better place to be during a blizzard. Great local dive bar! You can go in there dressed up from work or in a baseball hat and shorts and still fit in. Expect it to be loud and rowdy on weekend evenings, you might even need to wait for a bar seat. It's full of locals and everyone knows everyone but people are friendly and chatty. Expect a local chill bar vibe, there is a large bar but also high tops to see TVs and booths and family friendly areas too. Drinks are strong, bar food is great and the staff is super friendly. All time favorites: BLT or Cheeseburger club, home made chips, Potato Skins, steak tips, lobster roll (when on special), nachos and chicken fingers in the honey buffalo sauce, little spicy but not too much for my weak ass stomach. My cousins have been here many times and highly recommended it. They were right! We were starving from a long day of travel, and the food absolutely hit the spot. My turkey burger filled up the bun and was so big I couldn't finish it. My fries were very crisp. Others at our table enjoyed the chicken tenders and grilled chicken. All this, plus two glasses of wine, a beer and two scotch and waters came to about $70. A bargain, in our opinion! I think they were understaffed, though. It took a while for our server to take our order, and we had to flag someone down to get waters and later to get another drink. Still, the service was friendly, and we really enjoyed this place. But more than that...the apple crisp was frozen solid when it arrived, and was definitely nit an apple grasp. When ordering food out I expect the food to be fresh, unfrozen, and the order to be correct. I'm not paying a premium for frozen food that they prob did not even make themselves. The server brought drinks and we ordered an app. When the server came back to take our dinner order, I asked my friend "are you ready?" and before he had a chance to answer, the server said (with a HUGE smile) "I'll be back." We ordered our dinner and it came minutes after the appetizer was served. We asked to take the app home since we didn't want our dinner to get cold. A box was thrown on the table (hitting my plate) and our dirty app plates were not cleared and piled up. Didn't love it. I know it is a pub, but these are basics. This is a hot spot for high hair, track pants and the last four people who smoke actual cigarettes. An ideal spot to show up half-in-the-bag if you're looking to contract food poisoning. Only ordered delivery so can't comment on ambiance but I really like a bunch of the food here. Good fries esp if you get a side of the craft beer cheese sauce. Mixed veggies are good, potato skins and baked potato are solid. The baked stuffed haddock is so good and it's a huge portion I always eat it twice and I do not ever eat fish twice. The turkey dinner I did not like really anything in it, maybe a bad day? And my husband got a few things that were just ok otherwise they'd be 5 stars. read more

It's exactly what you'd expect- pub food. Good apps, always get the Boursin burger, wraps, fish dinner etc. We love that they do outdoor seating now!!! Seems like people had issues with service in the past but all the times we've gone over the last year they've been on top of everything! Went here for the first time because it was drizzling, we wanted to eat outside because of Delta transmissibility, and we knew they had a pavilion for covered seating. When we showed up, we were the only ones in the pavilion and the music was quite loud, but they turned it down when we asked. We were impressed with the food. Our appetizers were thinly sliced breaded zucchini chips and a pretzel that were both clearly made in house. I ordered medium rare steak tips with a blue cheese salad and the vegetables were fresh and tasty. My companion ordered the boursin burger, which was on a brioche bun that absorbed the juices without turning to mush. The burger itself was ordered rare and then really WAS rare - which is rare, because most places won't serve an actual rare burger! I'm not fond of mashed potatoes, but my companion said his side order had some lovely pepper that gave it a nice character. We finished with the apple crisp which came with both whipped cream and ice cream. About the service: ten minutes after we arrived, the drizzle turned into full-on rain but the waitstaff remained courteous and good-natured and checked on us routinely, even though there was no covered connection to the restaurant and they had to run through the rain. Have been coming here for the last few months but have to say yesterday's visit was quite disappointing. The kitchen made a mistake in the portion size of our fish. We were told it's supposed to be 10 ounces well it looked like they took a 10 ounce piece and cut it in half. The "acting manager", bartender, Carla, offered to "take a couple of dollars" off the bill. Not good in our estimation. Situation did not end well. We won't be coming back. read more

Not sure how this place doesn't have 4+ stars. I just moved up the street and this is my new go to restaurant. Service is great. Drinks are reasonable and they aren't shy with the pour. Burgers are amazing and the blue cheese wedge along with the French onion soup make a great appetizer. read more
