We had never heard about this winery nor did we plan…read moreto visit this space while in the Willamette Valley; but fortunately, we randomly found out about it and were so glad to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many different wineries around the Willamette Valley, so it's difficult to choose where to go. And of course, the most popular ones will likely be booked up. But my partner found Coeur de Terre and made a reservation for us to visit this winery in the late afternoon, which ended up being a delightful experience. The vineyard is located far from the city, up on a hill, surrounded by other vineyards and orchards. Just the setting itself is worth visiting. The winery with its own vineyard is spacious, with a large, open building that's open for the public. However, where you want to sit is outside on the patio, which overlooks the hills and vineyard. We had a reservation for 4PM on a Sunday, which was the last hour before closing. We tried six different wines: a chardonnay, pinot gris, rose, syrah and two pinot noirs. Now, we came to Oregon wine country because we wanted to explore pinot noirs, which is king in this part of the country. And I can say that the pinot noirs at Coeur de Terre were solid. I normally would not choose a pinot noir, but Coeur de Terre made me a believer. They grow all of their grapes here at the vineyard, and what I liked most about the pinot noirs is that they were more robust than other pinot noirs I've had. I like my reds more bold and heavy, and these pinot noirs were heavier. We had a wonderful experience here, exploring the pinot noirs and taking in the views and setting. The employee who helped us out was friendly, too. I recommend visiting if you're in the area. Tasting is $25 per person, and is waived with a $75 bottle purchase per person.

We three had a 2 hour wine tasting with David on a sunny day in August. This was our first visit. WINES: 5.0. We enjoyed the wines, especially the 2017 Villanelle Reserve Pinot Noir and the 2021 Jupiter Pinot Noir. We purchased 4 bottles of wine to take home; we look forward to tasting them outside the warm, seductive ambiance of our winery visit. SERVICE: 5.0. David, the owner, patiently answered our questions as he guided our 2 hour experience on an outside veranda overlooking a vineyard. We learned new things about wines (both in general and the Bells Up selection in particular), the naming of the Bells Up Winery and of its wines as related to music, and more. AMBIANCE: 4.5. Attractive setting. Our private tasting on the outside veranda was enchanting. Though the sound of a leaf blower at a neighboring property was a minor distraction during the first few minutes, the music of the wines effortlessly drowned it out; the leaf blowing ended soon after our arrival in any case.

He buys excellent fruit and in turn produces excellent wine. Definitely worth a visit when in Carlton or nearby.

This was an odd experience. I had reserved a tasting with J'Aime a month or so ahead of time--so as…read morea visitor from the midwest, I had put it into my itinerary. The night before, I emailed to confirm--only to get, the next morning, a text from J'Aime saying that I had never followed through. We ended up talking on the phone, and this was so very weird for me because I was actually looking at the email I had sent while she was aggressively arguing that I hadn't sent it. As things developed, she conceded that she missed it (but didn't apologize for gaslighting me), and agreed--somewhat reluctantly--to meet me, as long as I could get there earlier. I got there as fast as I could, maybe 40 minutes ahead of schedule. Then, I was given a very fast tour where I was told to not ask questions, to not speak at all, to just listen to her "set piece." It's not that the "set piece" wasn't interesting--it was, in a way. But 1/3 of it was stuff I already knew, from traveling the area for a couple weeks, and 1/3 of it was stuff she presented so quickly--and clearly not wanting me to ask questions--that I couldn't fully grasp it, as I had wished. The other 1/3 was useful. At the winery itself, the wine was fine, I liked it. There was nothing so special that I felt the need to join a membership, but I did take a bottle of wine back to my Airbnb with me. And to J'Amie's credit, she did make sure that I was fully recompensated for both the tour and the tasting. This was a learning/studying trip for me. I'm a former professor; studying wine is my retirement hobby. To shut "students" down from asking questions is inimical to real learning, so I was very disappointed in this. This was one of two wineries in Oregon who insisted on forced listening, rather than engaging.

We got invited by Monique, upon her moving to Nysa, to come and taste these library wines. They're "library" because they're all aged. The youngest wine we tasted was 2015. Where any other Vineyard you travel to in the Willamette, you'll find 2019 Wines. Because of that, Nysa draws a high tasting fee. You're drinking exclusive wines. 100-200 cases. $60 and up bottles. So expect a $50 tasting fee because what you're drinking is worth it. This isn't your average Willamette Pinot. You're getting a punch. Flavor and boldness in some of these wines that matches a Cabernet or Bordeaux. Wines that aren't light and airy but BIG. Flavorful and layered. Full palate wine. These are the wines you bring out at special occasions. The wines you store and let age a bit more. The wine you use to impress people with. You won't find Nysa at the grocery store, or liquor store. You'll find it here. Nysa is the "rich land where Dionysus, the God of wine, lived." And it is not short on beauty, wine or complexity. I'm so excited that we got in prior to the "public" opening, but we will definitely be back to see everything in its full beauty. The tasting room and production facility will be finished soon and it's going to have a little rebranding to bring the label into the 2020's but rip the label off mentally and think of some excellent wine, a great view and a perfect Oregon day in the Willamette Valley and you're at Nysa. So go visit!

We learned about the effects of the 2020 fires on the wines and were able to taste a Pinot from that year for comparison with the years just before. We also got to taste the rose aged and bottled next to a pour fresh from the barrel for comparison. This was our most unique and personalized tasting experience. We were the only people at the winery so we were able to ask lots of questions and learned a lot. We enjoyed ourselves so much we ordered a case to be shipped to our house. The cost of the tastings was reasonable ... $10 per person for five, $15 per person for ten. I recommend taking the time to sit on the porch, relax, have a glass of wine, and admire the spectacular view of the Willamette Valley. Four Stars.
