My son and I took a trip out to this place on a whim one Saturday evening. The location has a ton of small places to explore and see. Somebody had hired the big main hall for a Christmas party and was kind enough to let us take a peek inside (see photos). All the people we met there were nice and accommodating. We walked around the site, took some photos, and then finished off the day at the main saloon. We both had burgers and fries (which were good) while a singing cowboy performed in the background. Admission is free, and it's impressive that the place was mostly constructed by a singular person. Well worth a visit. read more

I have been looking at this place for over 3 years and I finally got the chance to cross it off my Texas list! When first walking in, it was pretty awesome to see. Exactly what you would expect a ghost town to look like. Not many people were here on the Sunday we came and it was free.99 to enter. Great pictures and felt an eery sense of..."I better not anger any spirits or ill have to call a bruja when I get home". I could t wait to explore and look around! But before we do.... FOOD! I heard the burgers were pretty good so we had to see for ourselves. I ordered the 1/4 lb hickory bbq bacon cheese burger. (Happy tear).. it was everything and more of what I thought it would be. Came here based on other Yelpie recommendations!!! This place was super neat and allows for many photo opportunities and just a fun day! The bonus is its FREE so you definitely can't beat that! There's a maze, horseshoe rings, and corn hole toss and a restaurant that smells delicious! The ladies that work in the restaurant gave me a bit of history and were very pleasant and helpful! HBO and AMC the Walking Dead have filmed at this location so that was pretty neat! Definitely worth a visit! Plenty of parking! Wear walking shoes and bring water!! read more

Highlighting this hidden gem for their bar! If you're super into western sets and spooky vibes, this ghost town is pretty cool to explore. Not my kind of thing because it's just different set ups and no interactions, but it was free to walk around. What stood out for me was their bar and restaurant though! I didn't get a chance to try the food but they had a great casual menu. Lots of burger options! Everything was reasonably priced too- compared to everyday prices around Austin. This very unique establishment is located 1 mile from Highway 290 and is located next to the railroad tracks. There's definitely a lot to see around this place as all the photos depict. They are open Saturday and Sunday. There's no entrance fee to explore around the grounds. They definitely make some very good burgers. I would suggest the quarter or half pound burgers unless you're really famished and want a challenge. The beef patties had that fresh not frozen taste although the fries were pretty average but decent nonetheless. They do offer some canned craft beers and East ciders along with soft drinks. You can sit down in one of several different buildings and enjoy your meal. A great place to bring your kids to go exploring. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. If you're anywhere near Elgin or Austin this should be on your must visit list. read more

We visited this ghost town in Manor on Saturday and it was amazing!! It's free to go and walk around, they sell food and alcohol and have free movies at night on the weekends. I definitely recommend it! Everyone said the food was amazing (and super cheap). One of the workers came over to us and gave us a history of the place and which TV shows filmed there. They have a maze and lots to do for kids or adults. You can rent a pavilion for parties or part or all of the property. My one suggestion to the business is to offer a gluten free vegan food option. The veggie burger isn't gluten free :( maybe offer something like fried Brussel sprouts, Buffalo cauliflower, a fruit salad, or Beyond Meat burgers (although they are a bit pricey but vegetarians would pay!), also maybe a gluten-free bun option. I had the unique experience of having seen the first drawings of this town that was once only in the imagination of the owner, builder and "Mayor." This is truly a unique place and worth a visit or twenty. The town continues to grow and is certainly an interesting property! We always have a great time here. The menu is simple - burgers and fries or tots. (there a veggie patty too, and a kids menu). The burgers are perfectly cooked and tasty and portions are generous. Wash it down with a soft drink or a "hard" lemonade. Especially fun during the Fall (haunting season!) of course! Hours vary so check ahead to make sure they're open and serving. Such a cool little ghost town to waddle around in with, strangely, some of the best cheeseburgers around. Not where I thought I'd find my favorite burger, but I guess when it's whipped up on a grill out back by someone who actually enjoys their job, it shows. Keep in mind that the weather effects their hours due to working in an inherently dilapidated old ghost town complete with leaky roofs and drafty buildings. Nobody likes a soggy cheeseburger. Things have changed a bit since we were last here - mainly COVID protocols which we expected. Also "The Walking Dead" show built a huge building which is like an old time dance hall. This place is so cute & the staff is incredibly friendly!! I've driven by it several times and finally decided to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. They sell food & drinks at reasonable prices. There were 4 of us and we were all able to eat/drink for under $20. The women who work there are super sweet. They even have live music for a few hours on the weekends. It's not a true ghost town, and other than eating, listening to music, and walking around, there's not much to do. But the upside is you don't even have to pay to get in. It's a nice, chill place where you can drink, listen to music, and enjoy good company on a weekend afternoon. read more

I'm not sure what I was expecting by J Lorraine's Ghost Town made all my birthday dreams come true. I'm a hardcore fan of kitsch. Ghost Towns are pretty much everything to me, so I had high hopes and I wasn't even close to disappointed. First you have to understand the magnitude of stuff to do here. They have horseshoes, lifesize foosball, a complete saloon with food, axe throwing on weekends, live music, a maze, and so much more. You can get lost in this town for hours although half of that could be in the maze alone. The food is really good too, it's Texas food, like frito pies and burgers, but I won't say no to a $1 hotdog. Plus, since it's free to visit, it's the perfect place to take the kids for cheap. You can't have dogs, confetti, or your own food here, but if you ask nicely, they'll let you camp inside the fort! But even though you can't bring Rufus, they have a local dog named Scarlet who is up for petting. She's blind and old, possibly dead, she could be a ghost dog. read more

We stopped by here yesterday driving home to Elgin. It is an awesome place. Taking the trip out here is worth it, it's like a little get a way from the ordinary. It's exactly like being on the set of a western movie, or taking a trip back in time to the old west. Its a great place to take pictures, hang out and walk around, have a few beers, listen to live music, have a good burger. Great prices too. There are outside games to play too, volleyball, horseshoes, darts..They also show movies at night on weekends on a huge screen, with plenty of seating and plenty of parking. Its nice and relaxing.. For the most part.. Its neat. Its awesome that its such a friendly place to hangout. And its free. I'll start with grounds... I'm not extremely happy with the grounds. Might have been a bad day.. But this isn't the 1st time I've been... Its the 4th.. I think. Ants.. So many ants.. In areas that are well populated...with people. In attempt to get the ants off my daughter..I sat her on a bench where there were more ants. Then moved to another place (a fence post) to find even more...bigger ants.. Looked like carpenter ants...with wings. I knows it outdoors and to be expected. But hey.. That's what we r here for right?? Share our experience.. A walk along the property every couple weeks with a little bait...goes a long way IMO.. But.. I dunno. It did just rain...and I know that brings them to the surface. So who knows. They have a waterslide now $3 for the wristband for all day play. Not bad. A nice tarped off area for both wet areas. They have a smaller one for the little kids which I thought was good. Lots of houses and places for the kids to explore. Looks so authentic. Reminds me of fort parker state park between Groesbeck and Mexia. Its pretty neat....I must say. They have a maze that I have yet to find so far. They have horseshoes.. A very nice area for that actually. In the back there is a corral that has kids games in there. Darts. Bowling. Bean bag toss. Etc. Ask the front for what u need...its all free. Far back right corner they have a horse swing made out of a cut tire.. Which is totally awesome. A slide.. That goes super fast.. But the drawback to this is... The landing area is...well... Not my cup tea. Couch cushions. That stay out in the weather and are muddy, filthy, have ants/bugs on them..and they move when u hit them.. I nice little rubber mat would be very beneficial. And a lot cleaner.. Just saying.. A couple swings back there as well.. And monkey bars that my son said he didn't care for cause they were loose. Im Not sure if that's true or not.. I never checked. They have movie nights every weekend.. We have never stayed for one..or came back for one.. So I'm not sure how that is. Have not eaten here recently. Last time was a couple years ago.. So can't comment too terribly much on the food.. However I will say it was bad enough we never gave it another shot. Burger was super salty. Fries were hard. Reminded me of school cafeteria food. But like I said.. THAT WAS AT LEAST 2 YEARS AGO. The places seems to have a brought itself up a few notches since then. If I'd have reviewed back then.. It would have been 1 star...only cause u can't do a "0". Now.. This isn't exactly ghost town.. But what kid could resist wanting to check out the train right across the street?? It was fun times over there!! 3 cars I believe.. Or 4.. Parked on the side track...for repair so it says.. Too much fun. Kids loved it. It was REAL!! Lol Bottom line: Its very near my house. What I wish had been different... I wish they had been playing old creepy ghost music on the speakers instead of Kelly Clarkson, 80's, and Kesha. Also I really was hoping the staff would be dressed in old clothing to go along with the theme. That way my kids could experience a historical and pleasantly creepy place. Instead the T-shirts, jeans, TVs with sports, and ridiculous pop music playing really took away from our "authentic" experience where even my seven year old son pointed out those things. They should also at least wipe down the white chairs in the restaurant. Other than that! The maze was freaking awesome! We got lost about four times with a group of seven so that should tell you how cool it was! The food was GREAT along with a cold beer, the kids meals were great deals, seating was great. Staff was friendly. Horse shoe area was great! Toilet paper was soft, lol. GT was actually easy to find. Just go without expectations and tell yourself "okay... New experience, good or bad!" And have fun with your family :) Oh and I couldn't possibly imagine taking my kids here during the summer though with the ants that people are talking about, and seeing the water slide thrown on the ground and not even properly stored. Such a cute spot! My friend and I were headed home from a girls trip and found this gem. The burgers were excellent! They were COVID friendly. Masks were enforced inside of the building that your order food. They gave us a plastic table cloth for the picnic table which was a really nice touch. So I'm sad to say we didn't eat here because we had already eaten somewhere else when we came to check this place out. Someone came out of the dining area to greet us and she was super sweet and nice! My family and I walked around this place taking pictures and scaring one another . It had some really good backgrounds for pictures my husband was our photographer and we got some really cool shots especially because it was cloudy when we came. I've been out to the Ghost Town before, but I got the chance to spend all weekend out there with a Geocaching event. In short, I was amazed. As near as I can tell, George, the owner, decided to build this place. It's like a set of a Western, except with a little stage for music, a vollyball court, and even a movie theatre. The food is good - it's the standard burger faire, but is tasty, and they have Morningstar Veggie Burgers. Really, though, the thing that sets this place apart is the people. George and company are all fantastic - even the singers on Friday Nights were super-sweet. Very friendly, Texas people. This place would be awesome to rent for an event. They project movies on the back of one of the buildings. The buildings are shoddily built but that's the idea. I wouldn't say it's super AUTHENTIC since they have Christmas lights on some buildings and oil drums for garbage cans. But it is really neat, and a fun place to check out. I kind of thought I might not find my way out of the maze -- it was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be from the looks of it. read more
