Sorry to hear that this location in Plaza Frontenac is closing after more than 50 years! However,…read morethe last time I was in the store about a year ago, I was dismayed. The stock in the men's department was disappointing, now I know why - they weren't paying suppliers and many vendors had stopped sending them clothes. The designers that were featured were only for hip-hop and athletic styles. Gone were the elegant clothes I was expecting. The same was true when I was recently in Las Vegas and New Orleans, those stores are also on the closure list. Sad times in retail and for luxury brands. Au revoir SAKS.

On today I visited the store arriving about 1pm and had unfortunately received deplorable customer…read moreservice from an associate, Tracy. I was working with my associate, Lori; however, I was inquiring about a product that was more in the scope of Tracy. Lori attempted to engage Tracy's knowledge and not only did Tracy disrespect Lori, she disregarded me as a customer of Saks. I wanted a particular Kilian fragrance and Tracy did confirm that the one I wanted had been discontinued to Lori. I then addressed Tracy inquiring if there was one similar to my original inquiry. Tracy said yes and proceeded to walk in the direction of the Kilian counter. She then abruptly turned around and said "you all can go over there and find it." To be clear, she was not working with anyone at that time, so we were not keeping her from another customer and after saying her last comment, she went right back to looking on her phone. She was totally dismissive to me and had it not been for Lori standing there, I would have let Tracy know in that moment how ridiculous behavior was. As a long time customer of Saks, I know that your associates are not trained to behave in such a manner. Makes me wonder if I was Caucasian if she would have reacted differently. There are far too many options of where I can spend my money that sell the same items, if this behavior is acceptable then maybe I need to go elsewhere. This interaction reduced my rating; however, please know my associate Lori is a 5 star and beyond.

More than a retail concept, Hearth & Soul is a gathering place created for ease and discovery. The…read morebuilding is modern, without feeling stark, and has an open, clean-lined sensibility. Inside, the floor plan features areas reminiscent of a home, including men's and women's closets, library, kitchen, bar, family room, and more (from the business's web site). The selection of brands is well considered and puts me in mind of recommendations from an effortlessly stylish, well-read friend. Prices range from accessible to more aspirational. I pride myself on being well-versed in brands, and was pleasantly surprised to discover many brands that never even crossed my radar. Good to know: Hearth and Soul carries Bond perfume for men and women. This is usually only available at department stores. Being able to indulge in a favorite fragrance while supporting a local business is a bonus. In addition to the retail experience, the location features various events to engage with the community and build awareness of local partners. Past events have included book signings, cooking classes, and sip and shops. Each month, Hearth and Soul teams up with a non-profit partner. Fliers of upcoming events are located in-store to ensure visitors are in the know. Post-pandemic, experiential retail is the latest trend. On that front, Hearth & Soul delivers, offering a welcome alternative to online scrolling and the ubiquitous mall.

I saw this little gem advertising on Facebook for a Mexican Fiesta event and decided to check it…read moreout. It was so cute. Located in Ladue Mo . Outside the building is beautiful. Parking is limited. Staff is very friendly and approachable and knowledgeable of everything in the store. Very picturesque inside. This store have different areas you can browse. They have women and men clothing. They cater more to smaller sizes but I would still browse. I was told they keep different sizes in the back . Jewelry was very eclectic and pretty. Different styles so that is always a plus. Candles, books, artwork etc. it will definitely keep you entertained as you browse. They were having a Mexican event that consisted of flavored salsas and chips and Queso. The game changer was a jalapeño spice margarita. It was so good. They have different events from book signings to Pilates classes, jewelry classes etc. These events are monthly. Check they website and get the full list each month. Items are pricey (fyi) but the value I'm told is worth it.
