The hygienist finished the cleaning then asked if it was okay to update my X-rays. Normally I would say sure, but I hadn't planned on the extra time and really needed to get to work so I politely declined the X-rays (that I wasn't told about before appointment). The dentist then comes in and says he won't do the examine without X-rays and would only "allow" the cleaning (which had pretty much already been done anyway) as though he was bestowing a gift. He made me feel stupid and embarrassed. The hygienist ASKED me (gave me an OPTION) if I wanted to do X-rays. When I OPTED to say "No" they made me the bad person because what... I chose wrong? I don't like trick questions and they were basically blaming me for them not telling me before the appointment that they would need more time than usual to do X-rays. Like I said. I generally have liked this dentist, but the attitude I received this time really left a bad taste in my mouth. [Sorry... bad pun]

Secondly, the dentist himself is borderline sadistic. The one time I went to see him, I was sitting in one of the chairs and he sort of snuck up behind me, sat down really close to me, and announced, "Hi! I'm Dave!" The next thing I knew as he went to examine my teeth, I suddenly felt a sharp pain because he poked me in my gum with a sharp instrument, unexpectedly, and caused my gum to bleed. He gave no explanation as to why he did this and no apology for causing me pain. I couldn't wait to get out of there. If you've ever seen the Steve Martin movie, "Little Shop of Horrors," you'll want to stay away from Dr. Lester.

It felt good to be seen and heard while in the chair. Dr. Jill was just as kind and helpful. I never once felt out of place in the office and they didn't make me feel like a dummy with bad oral hygiene. I have scheduled further care and cleanings with Oakmont Family Dental. The examination determined that tooth was cracked in two directions and the nerve was dead. Rather than recommending a root canal with a limited chance of success, they accepted my decision to have the tooth extracted. My extraction was a little more than a week in the future.
