Dr. Baarstad and her staff are great. I had an emergency with severe tooth pain. They got me in right away my. Dr. Baarstad diagnosed the problem, gave me some palliative relief and got me in with an endodonist for a root canal. It would have been most helpful to know all the documents needed to start a dental care plan with this office. When I made the appointment, I explained that my insurance was changing and at that time, I would have like to know that I needed proof of coverage for the previous 24 months. My first visit was stressful and I went home and had to deal with insurance and it took me 4 hours of phone calls without a resolution. I had a massive headache all afternoon. They are gentle, but thorough, and I leave each visit feeling like my teeth are being well taken care of. They all help me know how I am doing at taking care of preventing plaque build-up. One more than one occasion they have shown up late to the appointment. I show up to a 8am appointment at 7:45, no one is in the office. The door is wide open and they are obviously open for business, but no one there. Okay, no problem, I'm a pretty patient guy I sit down and wait. 20 minutes go by and other patients come in and join the wait party, but now it's 8:05 and no one is still around. It's still not a big deal things happen, but they are officially late for the appointment they set. Five more minutes later, still nothing, but I still have work to get to so I leave. When we call to tell them I was there, but they weren't, it becomes my fault because I didn't wait long enough. If this was the first time this happened I don't think it would have bothered me much. You know, life happens. But it was like the third time. I found out they schedule they team meetings at the same time, which is poor planning, but blaming the patient, that's unprofessional. read more

I am so thankful I chose Smile Alive as my new dental office. My previous dental experience was a bad one - my dentist was unprofessional, and more focused on trying to sell me things I didn't need (namely Invisalign) than paying attention to my teeth. That dentist made the decision not to fill a tiny cavity on the basis that as long as I flossed and brushed, it wouldn't get serious. Well, it did get worse, to the point where he told me I might need a root canal. Understandably upset, I chose to seek out a new dentist. I'd heard good things about Smile Alive and Dr. Baarstad in the past, so I decided to give the office a try. Moreover, I wanted a second opinion on my possible root canal. They filled several cavities after my first visit, and additionally informed me I probably wouldn't need the root canal. I felt extremely grateful for the news, especially since they had saved me around $3000. Moreover, the staff at Smile Alive are very honest. One of the first cavities that I had filled there was not put in quite right - there wasn't enough space left between the teeth where the cavity was filled. Because they noticed that it was their mistake, Dr. Baarstad offered to refill the cavity for free, I just had to pay a copay for the visit. It's these actions that will keep me coming back to Dr. Baarstad's office for as long as I can. When it comes to preventative care, the staff at Smile Alive are very on top of it. They're always quick to inform me when they see a potential cavity or other problem with my teeth, and prompt plans are made to fix the problems. In general, the staff at Smile Alive is very professional, and does as much as they can to make sure you're comfortable. Even the reception staff is very aware of your wait time - there were a couple of times I had to wait about 15-20 mins... unusual for their office. But for both of those times, they offered me free movie ticket vouchers as a thank-you for my patience. Overall, I've had nothing but good experiences, and I would highly recommend checking them out! They have one location in the Coburg Rd. area of Eugene, and another location in Springfield. If you aren't happy with your current dentist, I would definitely suggest setting up an appointment with Smile Alive. read more

Visited Smile Alive in Springfield and found the dentist good at providing a good bridge replacement. Dr. Baarstad's work is well done. Later I asked the hygienist to ask the dentist how much it would cost to smooth out the back of front tooth, the hygienist came back and started taking Xrays without saying anything. I don't have insurance and had Xrays taken 7 months earlier. . . They told me I needed 3 teeth repaired/crowns. I went and received a second opinion and they said I only needed one tooth fixed. Also, they were scheduling me in for every 3 month cleanings, when I was told 4 months would work for me. I think the dentist and hygienist does great work. I just feel that they ask for more work and cleanings then is necessary. Also, no deals for people with no insurance. I spent more on cleanings then at any other dentist office. read more

Just got a new crown on a tooth by Dr. Baarstad. She did it in one visit! Fantastic, I've had a number of crowns put on by other dentists and I can say Smile Alive is the place to get a crown. The procedure was easy and the next day I had absolutely no discomfort. My wife and I both go to Smile Alive for all our dental work and we aren't going anywhere else ever. Smile Alive = unethical. Wish I could give them NO stars. First they started work on my husband's teeth on an expensive plan that he hadnt authorized, when he realized it wasnt what he and I decided we could afford it was too late to change the plan. We chalked it up to my husband either not understanding or not making it clear what he wanted. Then they charged my credit card for 5 payments when only authorized for 1 payment. This could not have been an error as they made the charges on 5 separate days. They kept my credit card number on file. Unethical. I've requested 4 of the payments be refunded, we'll see how that turns out. If I don't get the money back, I'll be reporting them as theft to my credit card company. We love Larry Laurinat, but now that he's in the Smile Alive office, we won't be going back. read more

Not the most courteous office I have been to. When 15 min. Late from a morning meeting with three customers in the waiting room there was no apology. Terri was unenthusiastic about her first customer of the day to say the very least. I must say I have never been to a less caring dental office environment. At Smile Alive in Springfield, Dr. Baarstad and her staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Baarstad listens and will answer all of your questions. I'm a high anxiety dental patient due to a lot of dental work and some of it wasn't a good experience. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible and I'm very comfortable going back.
