I start the car no check engine lights. Dude plugs a scanner into the car and all the sudden its throwing a code and has a check engine light. I had him clear the code and I restarted the car. No check engine light. Took it to the mechanic to have them hook it to a scanner and to the auto zone and neither on found a code!!!

They really impressed me by saying I DIDN'T need an expensive engine repair that they could have easily talked me into. It's something you'd normally get fixed, but this is an older vehicle that doesn't get much use so they told me to save my money since it wasn't a safety issue, it wouldn't cause a cascade of other problems, and I could fix it for the same cost later if the problem got worse. So far, they've saved me $1000.

Eric (the owner) told me that customers often bring in their vans to him after "at home" modifies went wrong so I assumed this was a good decision. After the install was complete and back home, we noticed the dents around the 1033 windows (both of them) and also could see that someone crawled on their knees on the roof (pictures below). The local dent shop was able to take the dents out of the sides and a few from the top but not all of them. After requesting from Eric a refund or filing a claim with his insurance he explained that Mercedes is very thin and did not apologize or even own that his employees made a mistake. 2.5 years ago we had an alternator failing in our Honda Odyssey. Sager & Sons had replaced this…read moretwice for us already. Both times it failed relatively quickly. We paid for the replacement the first time. The second time they replaced the alternator for free since it failed so quickly. Then the alternator failed very quickly a second time and probably should have been covered once again. They claimed the alternator was fine and it was actually the starter. Luckily my husband had plenty of experience repairing these parts in his past. He knew it was the alternator. But this company insisted it was the starter. Then they followed up claiming the van needed a new engine and quoted us over 10k! After several conversations they would not admit the alternator needed replaced. Then they said if we replaced the engine the alternator would be fixed. I still to this day do not understand how an "experienced" mechanic could be so wrong unless they were not begin honest. I can only guess they did not want to honor the warranty on the alternator for the second time. Although, the conversation never got to that point because he kept pointing to the starter. I would have paid for it because I just wanted to get the van fixed. We took the van to a different mechanic and confirmed everything we knew to be true. I waited 2.5 years to write this review just to confirm even further that the starter and engine itself were fine. Still no problems with the starter or engine. Any experienced mechanic should know better. It is a very basic diagnosis. We did have 3 or 4 positive experiences with Sager N Sons before this. I can only guess this was a deliberate misdirection to avoid warranting his failed alternator. I am so thankful my husband knew enough about cars to save us from wasting a lot of money! I don't remember the exact quote but an engine replacement would have cost 10k plus. I do not take pleasure in writing this review. I am writing this review to save someone else from being taken advantage of. Be very careful with this company. If something doesn't seem right make sure to get a second opinion.

They should change their name to German 5 Star Automotive!…read more Our Itasca RV (Mercedes Sprinter base) lost power and went into "Limp Mode" driving from Vancouver, WA to Mansfield, OH. We made it as far as Boise and began a mad search for a shop that could diagnose and repair the problem ASAP as we were on a tight schedule. I called several shops in the area. They could not take us that morning. More than one of them suggested calling German Star Automotive, so I did. They made room in their schedule, because we were traveling. I drove the RV to them that morning and noticed there was now an additional problem/noise with the front suspension. I asked them to look at that as well. We had a very tight schedule, so out of the abundance of caution we sought out a rental car. While we were picking up the rental, German Star called. They had already found and repaired the engine problem (a turbo leak). The suspension issue was a blown out shock. They could not fix that right away because they needed to wait a day for the part. I shared our schedule issue and they offered to store the RV for the ten days we would be gone for only $50. We gratefully accepted the offer and began moving our clothes and some of our food from the RV to our rental car. When the owner heard that we might run out of propane to keep our refrigerated and frozen items in the RV for the duration, he offered space in the refrigerator in their shop. At every turn this shop looked for solutions to all our concerns, even the ones that had nothing to do with our vehicle. Everyone was friendly, professional, and accommodating. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If we lived in Boise they would become my got to shop. Very, very impressed.
