I've been to quite a few nail salons since COVID reopening and I've never seen one take safety measures as thoroughly as J Nails. When I called to make an appointment they explained to me all the protocols so I knew what to expect. You can't even touch the nail polish bottles, you have to point to your color of choice and the nail tech takes it for you. Mind blown. Temperature check at the door, followed by signing a consent form, AND they haven have individual tip boxes. Wild. Anyway, their polish selection is insane. Probably biggest assortment in JC. The manicure itself was pretty good. Only downside is they don't allow you to use dryers which is beyond annoying. All other salons do. Price-wise it's standard for the area, $15 for a regular manicure. read more

I was looking for a nail spot in the neighborhood because I didn't have the time to go to my usual place in the city. My sister recommended J Nail to me and it did the job. Tina did my nails and she was very nice and professional. She was quick and efficient and I was in and out for a gel manicure in under 45 minutes. Sad day but I'm done with this salon. I've been coming for the last year a few times a month for a regular mani and pedi. Today, I had a different nail tech who wasn't as strong with applying light colors. During the pedi, I flagged that it looked uneven so she offered to do a 3rd coat and previewed on one nail what it would look like. It seemed okay in the dim lighting so I let her proceed. On my walk to the back I told her it still looked uneven but she proceeded to seat me for my mani. When she did the same color on my fingernails I noticed she was applying it too hard so I was able to provide guidance in the moment on the lines she was creating coat after coat. Nails came out Great! Once coming out to the front to dry both my fingers and toes, I just couldn't help but notice the toes just looked bad. Daylight helped me more confidently draw this conclusion. So when the nail tech saw what I meant, she applied a rushed 4th coat to my big toe but it made it look else worse. When I said I was overall dissatisfied, Monica wasted no time to let me know that if I wanted to change the color I would have to pay a $19 change polish fee. I consented. There was no ask on how we got here, or if I provided feedback or complaints at any point prior (which I did several times). There was no service offered, just a charge. Also there weren't even customers waiting. It felt like a forced policy, and I'm not even going to be presumptive to determine why. I've seen people come in and get nails fixed from previous days with no charge. But me complaining a 3rd time while in the salon meant it was too late for me. I chose white for my toes and I like how it came out. I tipped the nail tech and didn't even look at Monica when she went through with charging me the change fee. It only costs $19 to lose a loyal customer. read more

They were very nice for squeezing me in as a walk in but for a $90 gel mani and pedicure I'd expect better quality. The tech missed bits of my nail bed but got my skin, and clipped too much of my skin itself. All in all, disappointing and I won't be coming back. read more

Unfortunately will not be back. I went in for a gel removal + a manicure. I had been once before and had a good experience with a pedicure and manicure. Previously, they had used a small machine to removal the outer layer of gel and it came off easily. This time, she only wrapped them and let them soak and it took a bit longer, but no more than 10 minutes to remove all the gel. However, when I paid, they charged me $20 for removal, as well as $20 for a manicure. On the sign, it says $7-9 and up for removal. I understand if the sparkles were a bit harder to get off, and maybe they charged $10, maybe even 12 if it had been discussed with me first. However, nothing was mentioned to me and was just told that was the price. I spoke to the manager and explained the girl didn't use the machine and it didn't take much longer and I don't understand why it was $20. I also feel strongly, if you're going to charge someone 13-11 more dollars than the listed price (instead of 1-2 maybe) you need to tell the client before you just carry out the service. I would've walked out. And I won't be back. I feel very very ripped off. read more

Even if you're getting a gel manicure, they charge you to remove gel that was applied at another salon. Removal charges are pretty standard these days (unfortunately) when going from like gel to dip, etc. but charging for gel to gel because it was done elsewhere is insane in my opinion. On top of that, the gel manicure I got there was thick, a little messy looking around the cuticle, and didn't last even 5 days before I got a chip. read more

Disappointing service. Got the Beaulah gel mani pedi exactly 10 days ago ($120 total, $48 for the mani), . Looked stunning at first. Three days ago I noticed the gel coming off from the bottom of the nail. It was one nail so I told myself there's no need to be dramatic and decided to let it go. Over the past couple days the same thing started happening to the rest of my nails. Attached are pictures of the chips and gel layers coming off. I wanted to give the salon the benefit of the doubt so I called this morning and explained the situation. The nail tech said they have a policy of no fixing after 7 days. I explained that this started within the first week but I didn't call because I was hoping the rest don't continue deteriorating. She kept asking why I didn't call earlier, essentially uno reversing the blame on me, and offered a $5 discount lol. She recommended a new set at the 10 day mark, said that the gels last 10-14 days and that varies depending on weather and work. I work from home on a laptop, and I have cleaners that do the cleaning so It's not even like I'm elbows deep in water. It's a shame because they have good color ranges. Very disappointed and upset. They have drastically increased their prices per-covid and then with covid.. but regardless all good. Today they tried to charge me $5 extra because I have semi-long nails. said long nails are extra cost. What kind of NONSENSE is that. I will never go back. The nail tech who did my feet was lovely and did a good job. My complaint isn't about the service at all, it is about the price. I accidentally made an appointment at this salon instead of the one half a block up that I usually go to. I didn't even realize my mistake until the lady I usually go to told me she didn't have me down for an appointment. Even though she said she could take me, I felt bad that someone at the other spot was waiting for me so I called to ask for their address, walked up the block and went to where I accidentally made my appointment. They were waiting so I didn't even get a chance to look at the wall with the prices. Typically I pay $50 for a gel pedi and that includes the gel removal so long as I'm doing another gel pedi. This place charged me $65 + another $12 to removal the gel. And they never told me it was extra money to get the gel removed. That's $77 for a basic gel pedicure BEFORE tip. The prices here are out of control. They don't offer anything special that any other salon with regular prices doesn't have and I will never go back. read more

I've walked past this salon millions of times and finally decided to pop in for a mani/pedi. First off it's beautiful, I'm a sucker for exposed brick, so as soon as I walked in I loved it. My pedi was good and left my feet super soft my mani was good also. I recently moved to a new apartment so my hands & nails were looking rough from all the wear and tear. Nancy brought my hands back to life, I almost don't recognize them haha. They have a great color selection (OPI, Essie) of regular polish and gel. Downside- they do not do acrylics, just paint and gel. In terms of pricing, my manicure was $12 and my pedicure was $25. Kind of expensive but normal for this area, so I can't complain. Overall I loved it and I'll be coming back for my routine mani/pedis! read more

Mixed review for J Nail. I'll start by saying the staff is always polite and patient and prices are fair for the area. Where I haven't had the best experience is longevity of the gel manicures. Some will last for the average 3 weeks, but most recently I've had a gel manicure (current one) last for only 1 week until four nails chipped and one was bad enough for me to have to peel off. One of the better nail salons in the area and fine for "I have a date and can't get into the city in time" nails, however, not in my regular go-to rotation any more. read more

I think I've found it. I think that I've found my new go-to mani pedi spot in the neighborhood. Yaaaaaaaasssss! The interior is clean, modern and sleek with all white walls and and areas of exposed brick. They've got a vast selection of polish colors to choose from and there are stacks on stacks of magazines available for your reading pleasure. My guess is that J Nail has to be fairly new because of how updated and beauteous everything is. A mani/pedi combo is 33 dollars which I'm starting to learn is pretty fair for the area. Sort of odd, but the only instance I can recall of something being cheaper in NYC then Jersey are nail services. In NYC a mani-pedi will run you like 20-25 bucks. Anyway, back to J. They did a great job and almost a full week later, the polish is still holding up well! They were also able to do my nails and toes at the same time which is such a time saver. Pro tips I wish I knew: -Call ahead. Back for review number 2 because I seriously love this nail salon and I am so happy that I found it. I had my nails done in Maryland a few weeks ago and had a gel pedicure. Whatever gel polish the Maryland salon used would not come off! Maria at J Nail & Spa was taking the gel polish off my toes for me, and she really had to work for it, and she did it so professionally and gently! I was so grateful and impressed. I feel like at other salons, they just start scraping away at your nails, but not at J Nail & Spa. Maria did such a great job. Every experience I've had here was been so pleasant and relaxing. My regular nail technician has been ill and I really needed a fresh manicure and pedicure and my neighbor recommended this location, she told me to try it out and see how it is. To receive service from this location you need to make a reservation and I was lucky enough to call as soon as they opened and make one the same day. I was inform that from time to time they take walk-ins but not really. The nail technician that took care of me here was Maria and thru our conversation I learned that she's been working with the owner for a long time. She was very friendly and dedicated to making sure that I was comfortable. I just went in for a regular mani and pedi, but the service Maria provided was more than just regular. They go above and beyond. They give you an arm/hand massage when they are doing your nails and when you get your feet done they use this scrub and give you a leg and foot massage. It was so relaxing, it made the experience 100X better. I look forward to going back for my next mani and pedi and I will be sticking with Maria. read more

I stopped in for a regular mani and had removed my powder dip myself at home prior (knowing they'd charge to take it off) and showed up with clean, buffed nails. Half way through the filing, the manager came up to me and told me they were going to charge me extra for the "extra buffing" that had to take place because of ONE nail that had a small thin piece of dip on it. I tried to push back and say that I put in the effort to remove the dip prior and buff my own nails, and she proceeded to say - "come on, $5 is nothing for you." MIXED REVIEW! Please read all of it :) Got a basic pedicure & manicure at 5:30. It was $45. Fairly busy but very clean. Everyone wore a mask and things were sanitised. Ambience was friendly and full of plants. Really pleasing environment. Manicure - WAS great. My cuticles were perfectly trimmed and nailpaint was put really well. Done by the owner herself. Pedicure - Really poor. Maybe cause it's 5:30 and she was tired maybe she didn't care. She got my in growths out perfects she seemed very disinterested in getting my nails right or scrubbing my feet well. I had to point everything out and eventually files my nails in my own to get an even shape. I tried 3 times to tell her what want and didn't care that I did my nails myself at the end. My Gma and I were customers at J Nails since they had their shop on Grove St. (before the fire). We'd also go to the current location as well. It's been quite a long time since I been here. I called to make a same day appt since I was told there was availability. When I got there Mariela was still working on another customers pedi while I waited. I was set up for a spa pedicure and she began. While she did my pedicure she was still working on another clients pedicure. She was basically doing 2 pedis at once. That's not fair to either client imo. She messed up my big toe polish during the pedicure then sloppily corrected it. The polish was so thick it dripped onto my skin once I stood up for the mani. My toe spacers were thin paper towels hardly keeping my toes apart. I kindly asked her to fix it and she used her finger to smear the polish into place and globbed more on top. I brought in high quality MoonCat nail polish so I know the product isn't the issue. My left foot polish looks drastically different than the right. And the big toe doesn't match the other toes on the same foot. My mani was a simple standard mani with the same color polish as my toes. My mani is better than the pedi but the ends of my nails are rough, there's polish on my cuticles too. I can't see myself ever coming back here which is sad bc I really did like this business. The plants and vibe in there is nice and quiet and that's about all I can say. I don't feel comfortable posting my feet pics on here to show. But as a former nail salon employee I wouldn't feel comfortable letting a customer walk out with their nails looking like this. read more

Made appointments over the phone for a gel manicure for myself, and then pedicures for me and my boyfriend. The COVID check-in process was thoughtful and made me feel very safe. At the door, they take your temperature and have you sign a consent form. They were helpful in opening the door for us on our way in/out, sanitizing the pens for the forms, and helping to select polish so that I didn't need to touch anything. There was also a staff member consistently cleaning surfaces around the salon, as different customers switched in and out. My nails came out great, and the pedicures were awesome. The foot massage was enjoyable and longer than what I feel other places try to get away with. It was my boyfriend's first pedicure, and he would not stop raving about how great his feet looked for the next two days! Payment was easy and secure. I come to JC between once and twice a year to visit friends. I appreciate that they are walk-ins welcome because I decided to get a mani/pedi last minute. The salon is so clean. I think my whole pedicure, I watched them clean haha. They also have SO MANY colors to choose from. I got the spa pedi which comes in a convenient box. And I got a gel mani as well, I was confused when they didn't bring a bowl of water for me to soak, but a dry manicure worked just the same. The staff is so kind and helpful. I came to J Nail & Spa after a friend recommended it to me. I just moved here from Philly and was looking for a clean and reasonably priced salon in the area. The salon itself is very clean and modern. I stopped by at 4 pm on a Friday and was seen right away for a gel manicure with no appointment. They only offer Essie and CND brands which was a bit of a bummer since I am an OPI girl but the color availability was extensive. I was indecisive on what color to get and the sweet lady attending to me kindly let me try a couple of colors and go back and forth besides settling on my choice. I took away 1 star because there were three other girls getting their nails done and had been there before me but I somehow was done faster than they were. My cuticle cut, file, gel mani and back massage took no longer than 20 minutes total. The back massage was sadly less than about 30 seconds. Overall, if you are looking for a clean, reputable nail salon, I would recommend! I truly appreciated that their tools were in sterilized, individual packets. read more

The pedicure with Bertha was horrible no lotion, no massage and they put the callus remover on my feet before soaking my feet and then were trying to exfoliate before even soaking. Then Tina overcharged me but said she took 5$ off but it was over $80 dollars!!!! I normally paid for years 70. OVERPRICED and i had an appointment and they took another person off the street so had me sit in the pedicure chair for an extra 20 mins. Since moving to JC, I have struggled to find a new nail salon. I typically trek back to Chelsea to my fave nail place as its reliable, quick, clean, and cheapish ($24). However when I don't have time to get into the city, this place is a good next option. I have tried a few other places on Newark Av but wasn't pleased at all. J Nails is clean, has tons of chairs, and has a great selection of colors including a huge selection of gel manicure colors. My pedicure was great - long foot massage included and good polish job. My manicure wasn't as great as some fingers had jagged edges on the side of my nail. My manicure was very sweet though and she was happy to try two different polish colors on my nails to make sure I was happy with the color. The price was $37 for mani/pedi. They don't run any specials so whenever you go it is $37. I would recommend this place above others in JC, so I'm sure I will be back soon! read more

Only place which would take us in at the PM evening hour. Over all it was OK. During the pedicure, I yelp the place out and came across of a review where it stated that these guy were not sanitizing the tools, which caught my attention and start to observe. Noticed the clear face with a sky blue back satize bags were not sealed when they are taken out from the so called satize enclosed fridge. After using the tools they go back in the same bag, which made me question them. After my inquiry, the young Spanish lady got offended who actually did what I saw and the owner who is Asian wanted to make a point by telling me that they use a new bag (even though the bag is not sealed). I hope the health department could make a surprise visit to ensure these guys are following the health code. read more

I've been here twice for manicures (gel & regular) and pedicures. In that time, I have had 3 different technicians. Both times, the technician doing my pedicure has made me bleed, and my fingernails chipped almost immediately. On my first visit, the cut during my pedicure was so bad that I had a scab running along the length of the cuticle on my big toe for weeks. I also got a gel manicure, which chipped 3 days later. It should last at least a week! I also had 3 nails break in the week after this service, when previously my nails were the strongest they'd ever been. The manicure and pedicure were done by 2 different technicians, but clearly the salon overall has poor practices if these are the results I'm getting. I'm not sure why I bothered going back after that first experience, but on my second visit, I was cut again during the pedicure. Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as the previous time. I got a regular manicure with Essie polish this time, and my nails were chipping within hours. As in, I had a lunchtime appointment and my nails were chipped by dinner. The pricing is fair, everyone seems nice, and I appreciate that they will book appointments over email. That being said, I will not be returning. There are a dozen nail salons in this area, and I'm sure I can have a better experience elsewhere. read more

After recently moving from Ireland to Jersey City I am really struggling to find a good nail salon which is shocking. J nail is the second place I have tried in Jersey City and I must say on arrival I was really impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the cleanliness of the entire salon. I asked for refills on arrival but was not informed of the price or of the fact that they only use UV Gel. The end result was lovely however so expensive.
