This was the most painful brazilian wax I have ever had. Instead of doing a small amount of big strips, she did a hundred small strips. Going over the same area multiple times and now my cooch is swollen. Additionally, this was the most uncomfortable wax experience because the table is against the wall and just behind a curtain. I couldn't even put my knees down all the way. They were nice and I can't speak to their eyebrow services but I don't recommend getting a brazilian. read more

This is the only place I can get a Brazilian in NYC. Navi was always sweet and she always made me feel comfortable. Unfortunately, she left. :( I miss you Navi!! I couldn't get an appointment with the other girl so I tried boom boom brow bar nearby, DON'T DO IT and it was torture! It was so bad and painful that I left in the middle of it. After that, I made an appointment at Maya Salon with the girl replacing Navi and she is also great! I asked if there was another person available (as there is usually more than one person working) and she curtly said no and half-heartedly apologized. This is not the first time the staff has been outright rude to me here despite my pleasant greetings to them when I arrive. The ladies at Maya are a godsend. Fast, cheap, and most important of all, PAINLESS (or as painless as it can be for a wimp like me) threading. $8 for eyebrow threading, $6 for upper lip. I've tried other places in the Village and Maya's stylists are the most gentle and meticulous, and the most cost effective. It's also really nice that they massage the aloe/lotion into your brows as the last step and the last lady I saw even gave me a nice little temple massage. It's a basic and clean place. No frills, but they will get you done quickly and well. I'd never had a Brazilian before and felt it was time. I considered going to Bliss but realistically I can not pay $70 every month. I went to Maya because of the stellar reviews. I was not disappointed. The salon is super tiny but who cares? It's clean and they don't use that nasty, heated wax pot where you double dip and use the same wax on each customer. Jyoti is pleasant and efficient. She got all of the hair off and it wasn't unduly painful. I just assumed I would be begging the sweet baby Jesus to take me out of my misery but I was pleasantly surprised. The price is extremely reasonable -- only $40! Providing an update: For obvious reasons I cannot post photos showing how horrible my brazilian wax was but I will go ahead and describe it as best as possible so you all understand the nature of this issue. KEEP IN MIND I have gotten a brazilian wax before, this was not the first time. I was in pain (actual pain) for 12 hours. It hurt to walk. When I got home I checked the area and it looked like I had been BURNED. The redness was beyond anything I've ever seen before. I understand that the area should be red after a wax but 12 hours later?? To the point that it looks like I got a sunburn? Unbelievable. Today I checked the area and luckily the redness was gone but I was PEELING. Again, almost as if I was sunburned, first redness and pain then peeling. I am in absolute awe of this experience. I like to take Yelp recommendations with a grain of salt, however everyone is spot on about Navi. She's a great waxer and a total sweetheart! I'm usually not a talker during brazilians because I'm concentrating on not yelling to God for mercy, but Navi's naturally warm self had me holding a conversation. Before I knew it the wax was done! The space is tiny, so if you're looking for something fancy this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a clean place with a great price point and service then you've found it. This was my first time doing a Brazilian wax. A woman named Judy did my wax; she was friendly, gentle, never double dipped in the wax, and put me at ease. Judy (I believe that's her name) is very pleasant and has delicate and strong hands. My Brazilian wax was not as painful as my past experience. She is also very clean, wore gloves and never re-dipped the stick into the wax. Every application she used a new stick. My underarms were left very smooth and hairless :-). I called before I arrived for a drop-in bikini & half leg wax, she said no problem, head on over. Waited while she did two other people's eyebrows, absolutely no problem, understandable. But, she was there by herself. I should have offered to come back once additional staff had arrived. Because she was there by herself, she was super stressed to rush through my wax, since people were coming in and saying, "Hello?!" from the other side of the curtain providing privacy for me. It was so incredibly rushed, I had tons of missed hairs and some red spots from when the wax was too hot (which peeled a couple days later. yuck). So, if you go for anything other then eyebrow threading, make sure there are two employees working so your job isn't rushed!
