Stopped in with my husband on a Saturday about 5. The place was pretty busy. The hostess just stared at me when I asked for a table for 2. After a minute or 2 of no response, she said she'd be right back. Then sat a couple ahead of us in the bar, returned and told us it would be about a 20 minute wait. We said it was fine and had to ask of she wanted our name. She did take a name and number and we waited inside. It seemed that there was a party or 2 going on, as people were coming in with gifts. We didnt wait very long and were seated. Our server, Sam, was over shortly and took drink orders. My husband got a beer, a toasted something or other that he really liked. Their menu has everything! Apps, salads, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, entrees, pizza!! So much to choose from. We decided to try the JRoos chips, homemade chips with elted gorgonzola and bacon. So yummy! Just the chips alone are delicious. We stuck with sandwiches for dinner. He got a steak and cheese, which he said is better than one of his favorite places. I got the Buffalo chicken wrap. It was really good. Fresh ingredients and just spicy enough! And the curly fries were awesome, too! We got a peanutbutter pie for dessert. Worth it! Food was awful. I ordered the grilled ribeye cooked medium rare. I sent it back as it was well-done only to have it returned much later also well-done. It was the thinnest ribeye I ever saw. It was also pan fried not grilled. After calling the manager (owner) over and complained, he took it off the bill. The rest of the people in my party ordered meatballs and pasta - awful could't eat it, burger (cooked well-done not medium-rare as requested), and chicken parm. All were only ok. Don't let the parking lot deceive you. It was packed, and we were able to get a great table right away. The mood for the evening was snacks foods and a hearty beer. Tried the Christmas beer- very good. For food it was buffalo wings, spinach and artichoke dip and house made kettle chips. The kettle chips are highly recommend. Smothered in Gorgonzola cheese and bacon, OmG, so freakin good. Spinach dip was good, for me too much leaves, more cheese would have made it great. This place was packed for football on Sundays. We arrived at 1pm and got the last table in the bar area. They do allow reservations, so if you have a large party I'd recommend doing that. They also had a private party room that I'm assuming can be rented out. Tons of TVs in the bar area with all the NFL games. Our waitress was patient and made sure we were happy. The menu had tons of options, everything from burgers to pizza to italian dishes to salads/soups. Many of the entrees came in multiple sizes. We ordered 20 wings for $20 and I enjoyed the buffalo sauce. A good amount of spice! The meat lovers pizza was a little salty for me. Pizzas were typical CT style thin crust. My sister enjoyed the Mac and cheese (which could have been turned into buffalo chicken or lobster Mac and cheese). I wouldn't recommend ordering the filet as it was not cooked correctly. The one downside to this place was the food took forever to come out. Our apps took 20 minutes or more and same with our entrees. Not sure if they do this on purpose since they assume people are watching the games but we were hungry. Overall, great selection of food and good atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon. My son and daughter in law took me there for lunch, I had the seafood platter. I distinguished told the waitress to cook my scallops very well done, when I got my food you could see the grease on the plate. The fish was very greasy and soft and the scallops were very soft too, the tartar sauce looked old like it was sitting out for a few days. My son had a Rack Of Ribs they looked and tasted dry and recooked. The waitress did compensated us and took the food off the bill, but it's the principal you don't serve customers food that was cooked days ago. We will not be going back there. I made reservations for a party of 13 to this establishment. There's really not much to say about this restaurant besides that it's dirty. We ended up all leaving because we were seated in a very dirty area. I asked the lady that seated my table to please wipe the table down or to have someone wipe it. She wipes, one single little spot that had ketchup on it and left the rest of the table dirty, and then they placed a bunch of glass cups on the table that were very dirty. Overall we just didn't have a good feeling about this restaurant because if this is how the seating area looks, I could only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Despite poor reviews, we took a chance on J Roo's because I was craving fried dough pizza. I was pleasantly surprised. Was it the best fine dining? No. Did it hit the spot? Yes! The fried dough hit the spot and made me day dream of summertime carnivals. The ravioli and western burger were both sufficient. The mozzarella sticks were handmade and delicious. The only thing I would not order again was the cheese steak egg rolls - we had one bite and could not bear to eat the rest. I ordered a "queens cut" prime rib to go, because I was really craving a good prime rib. They put it in a half tray container with a cover, so here I thinking wow that thing must be huge! I get home and open it, wow I've never been so disappointed in a prime rib EVER!!!! I've had prime rib everywhere from steakhouses to Chowder Pot, and they've all been delicious. But Jroos? It was the saddest LITTLE piece of steak I've ever seen. It wasn't even a prime rib cut, it was a thin cut ribeye you buy from stop and shop. It was about half an inch thick and had absolutely no flavor. I wish I had brought that sad excuse of a prime rib back and gotten my money back. $29 wasted. Don't even get me started with the frozen veggies they give you on the side. I promise I will never give this place another shot. read more

Has gone beyond bad. Now, I have nothing good to report. After getting food here for take away about twice a week for 2 years straight, I am done. Incident : 1) a rat turd in the salmon dish, floating in the wine/lemon sauce. I know what rodent turds look like. As the pandemic restrictions loosened in Connecticut, we tried J Roo's. Lots of promise, mostly unfulfilled on our menu choices. The star of the show is their pizza. Don't bother to order anything else. Well it's probably OK, their specialty pizzas are the show piece of this restaurant. One son ordered a personal pizza - chicken bacon ranch -on the other ordered a sandwich of some sort with fries. I knew when the food arrived and the son with the sandwich sandwich looked longingly at the pizza. My suspicions were confirmed with the slices that were shared from this huge "personal" pizza. To tell the truth, most of us forgot about what we ordered because the pizza was so darn good. I will have to go back a few more times and try out other parts of the menu. But if you insist, it is essentially a local version of TGIF but better. They have a big bar area and I am fairly certain they have a big happy hour crowd. The front porch opens so there is sort of half outdoor dining with the massive windows that can open up and bring some fresh air to that area. read more

This is my first time ever eating at J Roo's and I chose a dish off of their happy hour menu. I ordered their meatball sliders they were actually very good but the tiniest little sandwiches I've ever had and that was my dinner so I actually came home and just ate a salad now because I was starved.. but like I said they were very good. The beer was delicious. I looked at the regular menu and just felt that I did not want to spend a lot of money tonight on dinner since I was already having some beers. We recently visited J Roo's for dinner as we were in the New Haven area. We were surprised to see how many people were there on a Saturday night but chalked it up to our Governor allowing restaurants to increase capacity and hours. Everyone was wearing masks (both customers and restaurant employees) and people were keeping their distance as we waited to be seated. We were seated quicker than the time quoted, which was a huge plus. Our server was Ryan, who was very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions. Our food came out hot and tasty, and although my prime rib was made exactly how I requested, it was unfortunately a tad fattier than I've had at most places (I probably discarded a good 2 or 3 oz. of inedible portions). The garlic spinach on the side was perfectly prepared. My husband loved his Jambalaya which was full of large shrimp and scallops and the BBQ chicken pizza we shared as a table was delicious. Desserts were all awesome (all four of us ordered different desserts and were not disappointed). The highlight of the dinner truly was the way our server Ryan took care of us despite how busy it was. I continually wonder how this place is busy.. I've been silent on writing a review for years now shoving off the terrible service as an off day or the lack of effort in their food for a busy kitchen. Not today- Today I ordered a simple.. and I mean embarrassingly simple pick up order.. loaded curly fries and chicken noodle soup- aka stop being lazy and make it yourself.. Woman on the phone could careless to say please or thank you, as if I am actually ruining her day by calling.. fumbled through the order and was happily awaiting my curly fries.. My husband on his way home was awesome enough to pick it up for me.. figuring 20 minutes was plenty of time to pick up my order- he was told it will take another 10 minutes.. again it's curly fries and soup. Not like hand peeled fries.. or soup that needed to be made to order.. this is basic stuff. My husband called me to ask what I ordered, I let him know and we both were confused to why.. why on this green earth should this order take more than 30 minutes to prepare. After asking to speak to a manager, he was told he would have to wait another 15 minutes.. so that would be a grand total of 45 minutes.. for soup and freaking curly fries. The food is ok. Prices are a little expensive, but for some of the items, the amount you get isn't bad. Some items I have had recently were the Jroo's chips, pizza, and Mac n cheese. The pizza is not very good at all. The sauce is tasteless, and the dough doesn't taste good. And be careful about your toppings. Really loved the atmosphere here and the wide variety of food on the menu. We had a great waitress and the staff was very accommodating as they changed the channel and seated us in a good spot so my boyfriend could watch the hockey game. We ordered buffalo and garlic parm wings. I thought that the garlic parm wings could have been more flavorful and that both could've been more crispy, but they weren't bad. We also ordered the Mac and cheese pizza, which I thought could've been creamier, and a half cheese, half bacon and onion. This pizza was very good! Last time I was here, we had a few beers and some nachos. The nachos were OK. Man, the cheese was oily! There was a pretty goo slick on top of the dish. If I could give a zero I would! This restaurant is rundown and falling apart, when I sat in a booth I could barely get in and out of, I almost fell through the seat! Not to mention as I watched the host wipe the table down for us on a busy night she did not even lift the salt and pepper shaker off the table and just wiped around them, we had to request it be wiped again by our server because it was still dirty, the seats didn't get wiped down which still had food on them from the people before me, as well as food still tucked down in the seat. The server introduced herself, took our drink order as we looked over this very large menu, that they can't possibly have all these items made fresh everyday, the menu is ginormous! She barely gave us any time to look over the large menu, which we felt very rushed to order, when it was our first time here we had no clue what they had. We ordered the Philly cheese egg rolls as our started along with the fried calamari. The egg rolls tasted freezer burned and looked very old, the calamari was rubbery. Our server did ask if there was something else I'd like to order instead but by this point I was nervous to do so, almost scared to order my dinner. My husband ordered a salmon dinner, my husband's side salad was wilted and appeared as if it was made hours ago sitting out in the hot air of a kitchen, and when he received the salmon it smelled very fishy and if you know, you know if any fish has an over bearing fishy smell then its no good and had gone bad! The salmon tasted sour, the vegetable of the day was mushy over cooked. The only thing that was edible on the whole plate was probably the seasoning they used ( which idk if they did use seasoning). I ordered the blackened pork chop, my side salad was the same as my husband's, and the sweet potato fries were also dried out like they sat under a heater too long that's probably why my husbands were also dried out, not fresh at all, also got smushy mushy vegetables! The pork chop was decent just a little bit dried out. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or picky, maybe even sounds like a Karen, but this was our first time and last time here. Never again will I return or send anyone there. Not recommended. Like I said if I could give a zero I would for this restaurant. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the roach I found in the dirty bathroom with paper towels and toilet paper all ripped on the floor, and just as I stepped out of the bathroom I see the server using her bare hands to pick up the lemon and limes for the drinks and place them into the cups for the customers to consume (after touching money and anything else). I couldn't get out if this establishment fast enough because I had a water with lemon and just wanted to throw up just seeing that sight! Did I forget to mention how loud and noisy it is coming from the bar area, can even hear yourself think let alone have to yell to have a conversation with your dinner partner. I ate here on Saturday night and it's now Tuesday morning and my stomach hasn't been the same, let's leave it at that!! If you want bad service from a server named Allison, who looks as if she's having a bad day, hungover, a mess or just a miserable person, doesn't want to do her job or want to be there, sometimes couldn't find her as if she was hiding away, if you want to get over charged for bad food, still have to pay for nasty food you didn't eat and have your server not even apologize for the food and ask if there was anything else or ask to remove from the bill, if you want roaches possibly in your food, if you want salmonella in your food or any other germs and bacteria on servers hands going into your drinks, if you want bad service, if you want to have health issues and crap your brains out for days, then this is your place ladies and gentlemen! Have at it, you can have this place because I'd rather eat at McDonald's or burn my money before ever stepping foot in this restaurant ever again! I see how it's a 2.9 rating, it doesn't even deserve that. I can't even fit everything in here that I'd like to really say about this place and my review is still long. I can't stress it enough...
