    Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls
    Jess B.

The place is like a sports bar, pub type of vibe. The waitress was really nice and honest about the menu. But the food was mediocre at best. Got this from a recommendation, however, it didn't live up to my expectations. The egg rolls weren't filled with cheese like I expected from the title and description on the menu. The curly fries weren't filled with the best thing to me. Fries are very hard to mess up. I didn't enjoy the flavor of the sauce the came with the egg rolls, it tasted like ranch mixed with some sort of cheese spread. My colleague had the pizza slice and it was dried out. the cheese appeared to be reheated multiple times and greasy. I would only come back here to try something else if it was my last option.

So we used to frequent Jroo's more often or at the very least do delivery takeout which was always decent with our favs being eggplant parm sub or buffalo chicken nachos delivered. We stopped in because we had a gift card and were sorely disappointed, our waitress Kate might have been having a bad day as she was not it. Our drinks were good my husband loves being able to order Foxon park diet white birch. We split an app of fried calamari and it was way overdone a dark brown and so much so that some of the crispy coating had fried off leaving rubbery rings. I ordered the potato skins with broccoli and when they came they also had bacon and I said I ordered the broccoli ones and she said I assumed you want both and was incredulous that I would send them back. We had to ask another server for silverware and yet another server for ketchup as after that she didn't return to check on us. Hard pass going forward.

This place is always packed!! Been here a few times, can't say I've ever had a bad meal here. Service is usually good but can sometimes take a while if they're super busy. Dishes sometimes come sloppy if they're very busy too- but not a normal occurrence. Drinks are always good! It's a huge restaurant, if it's packed it's super loud, like so loud you can't even hear the other people at your table.

I ordered the half a pound burger and you can literally share it with someone. You have several options for fries. Steak fries, curly, sweet potato or onion rings. All great options. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. The place has a really great laid back feel to it.

I've been to this restaurant a few times but this last visit was on another level. We were a large group celebrating the holiday but they only had one server (who was great) but due to the busiest of the restaurant the food (if you received it) was nothing to write home about. I never received my meal and asked for french fries so I had something to eat. Others did not receive their food until after some had already finished eating. They were not equipped to handle large crowds. We've been there 3 yrs for celebrating but it will be our last. The drink pictured was amazing!

So finally, we decided to finally give this place a try because we drive by it all the time and always say, "we have to eat there one day". Well, that they came and went. We were seated I. The back room and the lighting was dim. The acoustics was poor because every sound was amplified, and it turned out that there was a group of people there making a ton of noise. The server was young and had that "whatever" attitude. No super attentive or helpful. We started off with nachos and the portion was big and it was slathered with an unusual amount of ground beef. I never thought I would complain about how much meat is on my nachos but it actually ruined the app. The flavor was good and it was more than enough for 5 people. The amount of ground beef was so offputting. We actually had leftover which is a shocker for nachos. The meals were incredibly disappointing. Two people ordered the prime rib dinner and when it came, it was an enormous portion. The optics looked very good however it was tough and inedible. You had to cut it into tiny pieces to eat it. My table mates were disappointed to say the least. Another friend had the personal pizza and the middle portion was mushy. The edges by the crust were cooked well but it had the consistency of a frozen supermarket pizza. As for me, I ordered the chicken Florentine and it was mediocre at best. It lacked flavor and I had to do it with grated cheese, just to give it some taste. The linguine accompaniment was overcooked, with a mushy texture. The meals are a little pricey for the quality of the food. I never thought I would say this, but I think the Olive Garden would've been a better choice. This whole experience was mediocre at best.

Nashville cheese curds with ranch (off the specials menu)

Hubs and I wanted a place with good comfort food and a drink or two. I said...what about that place, j.roo's? And off we went to this spot. Seated right away, we got a good look at their menu, ordered the Nashville cheese curds for an app and then for mains we got the chicken florentine over penne and a veggie burger. Dessert was a peanut butter pie to share and dinner here was what the doctor ordered on that blustery Friday evening! We will def be returning to try more from their menu!!

I heard a lot of good things about this place. I gave it a try. I ordered two pizzas to go. I got the Mexican pizza that tastes good but the only thing I don't like about this pizza was the lettuce. It has good flavor. I got the special pizza with all the meats. The service was great. Both pizzas were good, they are not the best pizzas but they are affordable for anyone.

Love the grated cheese pizza. Our waitress had the best smile and provided exceptional service Don't bother with the meatballs. They don't have a true Italian flavor and they were light on sauce and seasoning 8/28: Ordered my favorite pizza. Grated cheese with sausage. It was delicious

Our waitress, Vanessa T. was fantastic, she was friendly and always made sure we had everything we needed. My husband ordered a cheese pizza and I ordered the shrimp scampi pizza. My husband and I agreed that the pizza was okay, but we've had better in other spots around New Haven County. We've been to J Roo's before and we've had other food items that we enjoyed more. We shall return, but will probably pass on the pizza next time.

    BLT (Platter)
    Michele C.

Have to say this was the best BLT ever!! The wheat bread was perfectly toasted, bacon was nice & crispy- just YUM!! I got it with sweet potato fries which were also perfectly crispy. I also got a spicy margarita which was also very good. Restaurant is located right off the highway. The place is huge & very popular. It was Friday night and I had to fight for a parking spot. It is a family run restaurant and the owners were onsite which is always a plus for me. They have a pretty extensive menu and the prices are very reasonable and portions are big.

The peach compote was refrigerator cold but tasty, and my waffle was room temperature. The whipped cream was perfect. I figured out that the waffle was commercially made, not in-house but it should have been served hot. I was shocked that my peaches were cold. I asked if they could be microwaved but they didn't have one. I asked the waitress to pass along my suggestion and took my food to go. Once heated at home, it went down well. The syrup wasn't warm either. Good dish but not missing the correct temperature

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

Based on a recommendation, four friends and I visited for an earlier dinner on Cinco de Mayo (yes,…read morewrong type of cuisine, but we were in town and this restaurant was on our list.) BAR is an interesting restaurant: open air, picnic tables, open space, paper plates, no utensils unless you ask for them, etc. We were greeted right away by a less than friendly waiter who seemed peeved we didn't have a drink to order right away. Strike one. After a few minutes, everyone put their drink order in and I asked if the bartender could make me a mojito since it wasn't on the menu. The waiter said yes, so I waited. Then came the mojito. It was the worst "mojito" I've tasted in my life. I'm not one to send a drink back because of an "I don't taste any alcohol" excuse, but this was BAD. It tasted like margarita mix with lime and mint sprigs thrown in. It was absolutely terrible. When I double checked with the waiter if the drink was an original mojito he simply said yes, not "is something wrong with the drink?" or "would you like to send it back?" The drink was so bad I told him I couldn't drink it. He was peeved again. Strike two. I asked for a soft drink instead and the soda was flat (strike 3), but at this point I just needed something to drink... because who wants to have water with their pizza? Then came the time to make a dinner choice. My mission was to try the mashed potato pizza. It was hands down AMAZING!! Mashed potatoes and bacon on a pizza. Yes, please!! This was the only saving grace from my experience. I would return to BAR again if only for that pizza! Two of my friends had the clam pizza and the pepperoni/mushroom. Both enjoyed their own! Warming: New Haven pizza is thin crust. I got two meals out of a small, so if you visit with a group, consider ordering a few small pizzas so you can taste a few. I would've given BAR 4 or 5 stars, but the unpleasant waiter, the "mojito," and the flat sofa made for a trifecta, so I'm giving my visit 3 stars. If I find myself in New Haven again, I'll be back! Hopefully my next update will be 5 stars!

I just missed their live jazz band that they have on weekly Wednesday basis starting at around 7 or 8pm. I wasn't too disappointed because I knew I'd be back. The entrance is setup as a VHS store with VHS movie cases displayed all over the "storefront." Everyone here was polite and welcoming. I was met by a host who showed me the way into the hidden bar, that you enter via a soda machine. If I'm not mistaken, there's a specific button that opens the vending machine door (you'll get a hint as to which one it is.) I was lead to the back to a narrow, elongated bar area that was perfectly dim with cozy decor; incredibly inviting, warm, could make be described as elegant. At the end of the bar, near the exit (at the back of the establishment), is where the band usually sets up. I sat down and asked the bartender to free flow through his cocktail creativity and to please include smoke. He didn't disappoint, I can't recall the name of the cocktail but he included two scotches and delivered the smokiness I was looking for. I love a good spirit despite lacking the knowledge of its production to which Jeremy, the founder, explained to me in a way that helped me understand the distilling processes simpler than I thought possible. On their bar top there were two mini wooden barrels that held their own aged products . One contained Irish whiskey which was referred to as the Irish- the other was as a cherry infused bourbon-- both good but the bourbon? Divine. Tonight I learned that the wood you choose to age your alcohol in heavily impacts the flavor of the liquor, not only through the amount of time the spirit ages in the barrel, but the type of wood used. The example I was given was that of oak and its ability to allow sugar to be drawn from it via a liquor (can't recall which one exactly was used to describe this process). Here they also produce all of their bases/ juices or an additions to the drinks they make. You know exactly what you're drinking here. I had little knowledge of this distilling/infusion/aging components and also of Wallingford, a place that was once referred to as the wettest town in the U.S. It makes sense given that their main strip contains 18 bars in itself. This Gilded Curtain was incredibly immersive, there is no doubt that I'll be back, lots of times, with lots of different people to impress. Love this place, it's a must visit recommendation from here on out. Thank you Gilded Curtain (Jeremy).

Would give a 5 for atmosphere , though it is a bit small; bar seating only. It's also quite overpriced in my opinion, particularly for Wallingford area- $16 cocktails. I will say bartenders were very friendly and were able to make me a fun "feeling lucky" drink. Street parking is available up and down the street with a public lot a 5 minute walk down the road. I would definitely come back
