    Small area to order.

Their dog's typically are fantastic. I must have hit work shift change because there were about ten people waiting to order or waiting for their dogs at 3:15pm. So there was a wait and I was in no rush. My order for two dogs all the way with slaw and toasted bun. Along with Cheerwine and bag of chips. Dogs were great but one bun was burnt slightly. There is no ambiance like it's 108 years old. So can cut it some slack. Fortunately the employees are much younger! As for ambiance not much except so far best dogs in Triad IMO. I have a rule to never eat in my automobile. Not many option where people do eat in their car.Wooden stumps to side of place to sit but too hot for that. You would think after 108 years money would be allocated for small shelters with seats. And warning NO public restroom. To sum it up will rate it four stars Ambiance leave it as is. You are going for the dogs not sparkle.

After visiting another favorite, old school hot dog joint recently, Kermit's, I was thinking about another such place, Pulliam's! John S. Pulliam started this hot dog joint in 1910, it has been owned by just two families over the ensuing 114 years. I ordered an All The Way dog and a Cheerwine. This remains very good hot dog, among the best in the area, and at $3.10 it is online with the competition. I'll continue to visit from time to time, like always.

Sloppy good chili slaw dog. Good red pork/beef dog but not a Carolina dog.

Great Dog. Take Away Only or In-Car Dining....we opted for In-Car Dining. Pretty good chili slaw hot dog. Would rate it a solid 4 nothing more, nothing less. Ate in the car. This is a very small place with a very small ordering area. We ordered, got our food and ate in the small parking lot. Steady stream of customers which is a good sign. We would stop by again but only if in the area. Not sure if they're bbq...no smell what so ever. Service is very friendly.

Pulliams is an institution and I can see why. I've ordered the sandwich hotdog combo, which comes with chips and a drink. The hot dog is worth the drive. That was my favorite item. The bun was nicely toast and all of the toppings went well together. The bbq sandwich was pretty good. I liked the meat on its own without the slaw. The staff was very nice. The building is old, but fits the vibe of the place. I also tried one of the famous fried pies. It was excellent and would highly recommend them.

going to start out with an emphatic "I'm not from here and I might be doing this wrong..." because I'm not from here and I might be doing this wrong... For starters I'm good with odd red snappy sausages as long as they are but these mostly weren't. they certainly were red... but in a snapless mushy-meat-stick sort of way. granted, it was a miserable and overcast sort of day and that didn't help much, but still... and since "no fries, chips!" was amusing at Chicago's Billy Goat Tavern for the bigger part of a century before the turn of the century we'll let that go here too because, well, you know... history and tradition. pretty sure "napkins as sandwich wrap" is not a thing anywhere; hard to believe that a better option isn't available. I really want to like this place especially since it's totally old and storied but hot dogs shouldn't have to be like this... and since (almost) everyone gets a mulligan I'll try again if I'm near. it'll likely be chili and onions not the carolina way because I'm not really sure if I can trust alabaster slaw...?

I finally made my way to Pulliam's for their acclaimed hot dog. I have had many people tell me I should try their hot dogs, so I guess I should've listened sooner. The location itself is nothing special, and you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. It's just an old country store with a Cheerwine logo; it doesn't even have the name visible on the front of the building. There's no place to sit inside, but it was clear that locals hang out in there and talk. The menu is very modest too; they have hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, and bagged chips and sodas. I got two hot dogs all the way and enjoyed them in my car. The service was instant. Y'ALL... when I say this is the best hot dog I've ever had, I mean it! The bun was buttered, it was a pork hot dog, AND it was loaded with delicious slaw and chili. It met all of my expectations for the perfect hot dog. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Pulliam's is better than the old country store back towards my neck of the woods which I personally thought was the best hot dog! No doubt the best hot dog in Winston, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find much better anywhere else. Hot dogs are my favorite food, and I think the Pulliam's hot dog is genuinely my new favorite thing to eat!

Hotdog all the way with cheese and cheerwine

Our favorite hot dog hands down ever. They have perfected everything from the slaw to the chili to the toasted bun. We are hot dog people and have tried every place in and around Winston. This one is hands down the best! Hot dog all the way with cheese and a cheerwine in a bottle

Crunch. Snap. Mmmm. Repeat. That's what eating a Pulliam's hot dog is like. That bun, that wonderfully, buttery, crusted bun grilled on a flat top that's been searing dogs since 1910. Heavenly. We each ordered our dogs all-the-way (is there really any other in NC)? Both the meat sauce and slaw complimented the delicious, snappy dog with streaks of char across it's bright red exterior. Next time I'm invited to the dance, I've found a new partner. Sorry, Lori. The verdict: drag your ass up to Old Walkertown Road in Winston-Salem and order up a mess of dogs all-the-way. Your cardiologist may frown but at least you're smiling. Trust me when I say "Give 'em a whirl." Go here.

I chose their original sauce, by far the best selection for the brisket. As usual the to go order was out quickly, just over 10 minutes, and I was on my way, with my meal securely packaged. These folks do a great job filling your order quickly and accurately, and for a reasonable price - things that used to be so common at restaurants stretching from hot dog joints to steak houses - pretty rare these days! This was the typical excellent meal from Honky Tonk - the brisket was very nice, made very special by their original BBQ sauce; the Brisket Chili had its own full smoky taste, with beans included, but apparently no onions; and the collards are good but not great - more sweetness than I care for, no sign of meat onions, or cabbage. I drain the liquid that comes with the collard and add a healthy doses of red wine vinegar and Texas Pete. The sausage included cheddar and jalapeños, and packed a nice spice level. This would be nice served a full length on a hot dog bun with a stout mustard. This Tue and Wed promise to be rather cool, will consider another visit for the Brunswick Stew, more good stuff!

The special comes with 2 margaritas of your choice, a trio of dips, 4 tacos, and 2 dessert puddings--so you get a little bit of everything! First things first: they do NOT hold back on the tequila in those margaritas, which is definitely a plus in my book. They were flavorful, refreshing, and actually tasted like there was alcohol in them! The trio of dips tasted incredibly fresh, like they were made right then and there. The guacamole was easily my favorite because they put their own spin on it with jalapeños for a little kick. I wasn't expecting the spice, but it immediately piqued my interest and made it stand out from your typical guac. For our tacos, we went with the Tex Meets Lexington because I wanted to step outside of my usual birria order, and I'm glad I did! That being said, I already know I'm coming back to try their birria tacos next time. I also love that they offer tortilla options besides flour, which I'll definitely be keeping in mind for my next visit. And THEN came dessert. ‍ We tried both the strawberry shortcake pudding and banana pudding, and both were phenomenal. Seriously, don't skip dessert! To top everything off, Andrew's hospitality was the icing on the cake. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and made our first visit even better. He also told us they have live music every Thursday, along with other events throughout the week, which gives us even more reason to come back. Great drinks, fresh food, amazing desserts, a fun atmosphere, and wonderful service--our first visit definitely won't be our last!

The food and drinks were solid, with plenty of options including tacos and BBQ. We shared one plate between three people and still had plenty of food, including leftovers to take home. I grabbed a pineapple frozen margarita that was refreshing on a hot humid summer day. We happened to visit on trivia night, but it was difficult to hear the questions, so we didn't end up participating. Parking can also be a challenge during peak visits. The AC was also pretty loud, but honestly, on a hot summer day, I was just glad they had it! The open garage doors were a nice touch and gave the space a relaxed, open-air feel. Overall, had a good experience, the food is my type of cuisine so unsure if I will be back, maybe for drinks and appetizers for sure.

The chicken itself was excellent. It was incredibly juicy, perfectly fried, and had a great crispy coating. My only issue was that the breading felt like it was missing a little something, maybe more seasoning, pepper, or some extra flavor. Growing up with places like Gus's Fried Chicken in Memphis and Nashville hot chicken, I think I naturally expect a little more punch from the chicken itself. The sauce they serve is more of a barbecue style sauce, and while it worked, I personally didn't love it enough for it to carry all the flavor. The sides were a mixed bag. The collard greens were really good and definitely one of the highlights. The coleslaw, though, was way too pepper heavy for my taste. Also, the piece of bread that comes with the meal was honestly not worth the calories. I'd rather see them either upgrade the bread or skip it altogether. One unexpected highlight was the pebble ice from the drink machine. Small detail, but it was awesome and definitely appreciated. Overall, I'd come back and try some different sides because the chicken itself is worth returning for. With a little more seasoning or some different sauce options, I could see this being a 5 star spot.
