I went there to get a perm on my straight hair. The salon is really nice and the people are very friendly but from the beginning the girl who did rollers in my hair did them reeally lloose and seemed to have trouble getting rollers to stay in so she used sticks. My hair is now more wavy then permed and when I sweat it gets straight again but now it also gets frizzy. I would recommend anyone trying this salon to only book with the owner. He definitely knows what he's doing. I waited 72 hours after perm to wash my hair so lack of curl is not from me. I followed all instructions. I will try another salon next time when my hair can be permed. The only good part is tHat my hair is not damaged at all so hopefully I won't have to wait long to try perming my hair again. read more

I strongly believe that a negative review should not be written until you have tried to remedy the concern with the owner. The disrespect, indifference and lack of professionalism by Jeff the owner of J. Scott Salon to a 7 1/2 year client this past week has prompted this review and my search for a new salon. I arrived for my 3:00 Friday hair appointment a few minutes early as I had most of the time during the past 7 1/2 years. When I got there, Jeff was outside with his previous client holding her hair up to the sun, examining it and talking to her. I entered the salon, and sat in the waiting area for my appointment. Twenty minutes later, Jeff and the woman returned, she sat back in the chair and Jeff went into the back room giving me a curt "sorry" as he disappeared. He finally returned 10 minutes later, gave me another curt "sorry" and proceeded to work on the woman's hair. When it got to be 3:40 with no explanation with what was happening and as to when he would honor my appointment, I decided to leave. Rather than make a scene, I told him I would come back next week. When he took me to the desk to make the new appointment, he said nothing by way of an explanation or apology. I waited uncomfortably for another 20 minutes to be picked up and left with no further comments. I called the next day and left a message for Jeff to call me to talk about what happened on Friday. Over a week later and he never called which showed me he didn't care. When I got the text asking me to confirm my appointment the following week, I did not confirm it. There should have been no doubt that I was upset. I have still not heard from Jeff. read more

Great little straight forward salon. I have gone a couple times and had my hair cut by Meghan. She cuts my hair in about 20-30 mins - including a wash and does a fantastic job. I am accustomed to Aveda and other higher end, higher priced salons and I feel I'm getting the same quality here for under 30 bucks! read more

I initially went in to try a new salon after having moved from the city. Megan fixed a bad color I had gotten - and when I say fixed I mean she nailed it. Completely corrected a horrible dye job someone else had given me and put me back almost to my natural color. She also has given me some great haircuts. Super friendly. read more

I'm happy to share a review after my first visit to J Scott Salon in Long Grove, IL.. I have a hard time spending more than about $25 on a haircut. I don't go out much, work from home and generally do not fuss with my hair so I figure if I get it cut every 6-8 weeks, it's enough. But the styles I've been trying have not been right for my face shape or lifestyle, so I decided to try a better salon. I went in with a picture of something similar to what I wanted, and after some sincere study and a bit of Q&A, Meghan went to work. The cut is shorter than I thought I'd go for, but that's not a complaint - Meghan had a vision that I couldn't find for myself. She spent a lot of time with me, moving between cutting, layering, shaping and thinning. I'm adjusting to the length after having chin-length or longer for a few years. I know it will be super easy to maintain, and I look forward to seeing how it grows out. The price was more than fair, and my only regret is that I forgot to ask the name of the conditioner she used. I have been working with Meghan for almost a year for color and cuts and she is excellent plus just the nicest person. She will listen to what you say/want with your hair and work to make it happen. I'm a senior but I don't want to look one!! She does an amazing cut and color to keep me looking 10 years younger. That works for me. This is a great Salon with a personal touch.
