Run from this one. We had nothing but problems. Smith installed incorrectly and charged a fortune to come out to "fix" it, although nothing changed. Charged for a 3 hour service call that lasted 20 minutes and didn't fix the problem. Included all kinds of extra charges including GAS to drive to the house. Bethanne was curt and rude at every interaction. Getting a call back was near impossible. I had to BUY my way out of this so called "contract" in order to get great service elsewhere. This is uncomfortable to report, but one of their service people rarely bathes, and we had to spray the house after he left. read more

I had a commercial music system fail on me at my Spa Business in Yuba City. This is a big problem for a spa and they came through for me! I called local guys first, they tried and failed. Frankly, they showed little interest in the job. Called Smith & Sons and the job was done with the since of urgency I needed. They spend time to understand my needs and help update an outdated system- improving the function, choices, and meeting my budget. I would recommend them to anyone. We have been with Smith and Sons since 2005 (Elk Grove Home). This year, we decided to change to another alarm company for personal reasons. We spoke with BETHANN to get the disconnection process started. She was abrupt during the conversation and hung up the phone on us. They charged us also with disconnection fee even though we have been loyal with them for 14 years and we weren't under contract. We have been with Smith and Sons since 2004. We have never had a problem with phone conversations till I called August 13 at 4 pm. I called to verify security had all our information correct. I had to be transferredd from the initial woman who answered. The woman who answered next seemed impatient and not warm at all. "What is your pass code?" I thought it was a number and guessed. "No, your code is what you give when you check your alarm monthly (does anyone REALLY do that?) I figured out that she meant the passWORD and gave it to her. She asked if our address was the same and when I started to recite it, she huffed impatiently, apparently because the correct answer was a simple "yes." I said, "I can see you're in a hurry." She corrected me, "No I'm not in any particular hurry." She verified our phone numbers, but again, when I started to give her my number I heard that huff again. I felt like I wasn't complying with the ORDER in which in which I was to speak or respond. I explained that those who were to be called in case of an alarm had changed. She corrected that Central Station would call US first, not them. (I had to figure out who "Central Station" is because it's not a term we ever use--it's just a person, we thought from Smith and Sons.) I didn't know the correct terminology or how things REALLY work. I am an outsider to how things really work and who does what and the correct terminology. It was a really awkward conversation. Not because she didn't complete the changes I needed but because I felt I should have apologized for some reason because maybe she felt I was a dummy. She's probably a very nice person, prompt, reliable and knows every technicality and stipulation of her job. But instinctual flexibility, patience, and inate kindness to strangers are essential to customer service responders. Or maybe she was just having a bad day or not feeling well and if so, I WILL apologize for a 3 instead of 5 star review. read more

We were treated very poorly by this company. We had our security service with them for over 24 years. When we moved into our new home eight years ago they provided us with a cheap plastic sign that the sun degraded and it literally fell apart. When we asked if we could have a replacement we were told that we would have to pay about $15 for it. That left us with no sign to alert individuals that we were being monitored. When they recently announced a rate increase we decided to cancel our service with them. When we contacted them they asked it was about our not having a sign. They then actually lied to us and said that they were going to replace our sign. This was not true, if it had been, I would have had a new sign. Their office staff was not helpful and at one point they actually insulted us. What ever happened to customer service? We didn't get it here and are taking our business elsewhere. read more

I totally agree with two of the previous reviews as I had similar experiences with Smith and sons. I've been a monthly paying customer for many years through two different homes with them. Mostly for a discount on home owner's insurance. I rarely used the system, but felt secure in the knowledge that if I needed them, I was covered. I changed home owner's insurance carrier and they did not offer any discounts for home security systems so I decided to cancel services. I called and spoke to Bethan who proceeded to put fear into me about crime in my area of Granite Bay and that I should speak to Ward. I told him my screen board read "FC" which means failure to connect. He recommended sending out a tech to diagnose the problem, but neglected to tell me that there would be a charge. A very nice tech came out and spent 2 hours investigating to tell me that I am not connected to Sequoia monitoring for who knows how many years. No one notified me of this but they continued withdrawing monthly fees by ETF. When I spoke to Ward about this, he told me that it was my responsibility to check this once or twice a month. Really? No one I know does this. He suggested I move to a wireless system with a higher monthly fee. How convenient. After a day of thinking about it, I decided not to continue service with them. I told them I want to discontinue service and promptly received a service bill for $165 to tell me they have been charging me for absolutely no service for who knows how long with a lot of extra phoney fees like a "truck fee", charging me to go from Roseville to Granite Bay, etc. I was incensed by their nerve but wanted to be done with them and sent an angry letter and a check. Then, I received another bill via email charging me a $45 disconnect fee (I'm not connected, remember?) and a prorated fee for the month of monitoring (I'm not connected, remember?) I was furious and called. I spoke to Bethan again and Ward was conveniently busy and she would let him know I called. Still waiting for a response... Do yourself a favor. Avoid this company. Their business practices speaks loudly to their priority for profits rather than their honesty, integrity and lack of ethics. read more

Sequoia Monitoring - Security monitoring for this company sucks!!! I contacted them back in October 2017 to discontinue our security monitoring services and played phone tag for what seems like two days...Finally I was told that BETHANN the person responsible for cancelling out services had all my information and would get back to me!! Today Jan 2018 BETHANN tells me she was waiting for me to call her back to close out... You would think after 7-8 missed calls to her that the customer service thing to do would be to call the customer back.....So you have now charged me for Nov, Dec, & Jan and now Feb?? And on-top of wanting me to pay a $45 disconnect fee.....I had service for almost 10 years and this is how I am treated.....I requested a callback from Ward Smith and BETHANN nonchalantly said she would have him return the call.....Two weeks later no call back....Will never use it again nor recommend it ....,1- for customer service read more

I've just completed a transaction with Smith & Sons, replacing central vac parts. I received superior service from this business. I wasn't exactly certain about what I needed; Cicely was clairvoyant and ultimately got me just the right parts. She is professional and efficient. All three on staff, including the company president, were friendly and determined to accommodate me. No wonder this business thrives. Bravo! read more

I was disappointed with the treatment I received from the manager Bethann, an impossible women to speak to, she is on the offensive from the moment you tell her you no longer need their services and terribly aggressive, I needed to cancel the service due to the fact I will be moving soon, and then she proceed to tell me that I was under contract for 36 months, which I failed to know since I did not read the small print and the seller Ward Smith fail to let me know at the time of purchase, so in my ignorance I call in good faith and I encounter the watchdog in the form of Bethann, it was going to cost me a $499.00 to cancel but when I told her that I was a low income person she agreed to charge me $15 extra for each month that I had an active service including the month of March ( I called Feb 28) I imagine as a tip for their service so still I had to pay $270.00 to cancel. The good thing is that I will never have to speak to this women again and I highly recommend to read the small print or be charge for many years whether you want it or not, she told me they don't have monthly payment yet she arrived at 39.95 a month to charge me the extra 15.00 per month of, services in lieu of the $499.00, my monthly bill was 24.95 not what they advertise in their web page of $17.95. I made a terrible deal with this small company that it is not what they advertise to be. Shame on them. And on top of that I had to endure that my alarm kick off one day at 3AM for no reason whatsoever just malfunction. Terrible to have to deal with people that do not explain to you in detail what you are getting into it, although I agree that I am partly to blame for being naive and for not reading the contract in full.
