I chose Dr Katzen 2 years ago after an extensive google search and watching his surgical videos on YouTube. After a complimentary evaluation and discussing what the procedure would entail, I knew he was my doctor. Dr Katzen is super smart and has tons of experience. But it's not just that, he really cares about all his patients and makes himself available to them day or night... or even on vacation. He's non judgmental and wants you to have the best outcome possible. Every member of his staff is kind and are lovely human beings and if there are any complications, they'll make sure Dr Katzen knows about it and will have him call you back after surgery. As others have stated, I am also deformed, thanks to him. I lost over 200lbs and saw him for a tummy tuck and that is where the nightmare began. Nothing but problems from the beginning and of course (as others have stated) he does not stand behind his work and will gaslight you by saying that "he doesn't see what you are talking about" while in the meantime the other doctors who have examined me were all able to explain what was done incorrectly and confirm that thanks to Katzen, I am deformed. Not sure how I will proceed but please be warned. Also, notice how inorganic the split on his reviews is? He has all 5's or all 1's? I'll let you draw your own conclusion as to what that means . (see 10 photos below) After losing about 250 pounds from a starting weight of over 400, I hit a new challenge I honestly didn't expect to struggle with so much... loose skin. Clothes didn't fit right, exercise didn't feel good, and I honestly still felt FAT, despite having a healthy BMI... Ugh. I started looking into surgeons who really understood working with people after massive weight loss. I was willing to fly anywhere in the USA to get it done. I spent weeks going through photos, reading reviews, and watching videos. That's how I found Dr. Katzen. Practically everyone in his before & after pics looked nicely sculpted, no matter their starting weight, and this really stood out to me. After watching his Instagram for a period of time, I finally met him for a consultation. He was warm, kind, and easy to talk to. It was a great first impression. He listened carefully and explained everything. I even asked if he could give me a more feminine "bikini cut", and he understood completely what I meant by that (look at my pic). My surgeries were divided in 2 parts: Surgery #1: 360 Lower Body Lift + Arm Lift Surgery #2 (30 days later): Thigh Lift + Torso Lift I flew to Los Angeles for both surgeries. In total, Dr. Katzen removed about 13 pounds of skin (8 pounds was from the body lift alone.) He also made sure I was recovering well in between surgeries. The whole process went incredibly smoothly. The anesthesiologist was really nice (which meant a lot to me because I'm NOT great with IVs), and the surgical center was clean & organized. After each surgery, I stayed two nights at Aura Recovery, where the nurses were amazing. Dr. Katzen actually came to check on me both days (something the staff kept telling me that most surgeons they work with don't ever do). The first few days were really rough, especially having to walk for the first time, but the pain meds made everything manageable. After the 2 nights at Aura, I moved to a nearby hotel with a kitchen for about a week, using a motorized lift recliner chair that I rented through one of Dr. Katzen's recommended vendors. That recliner turned out to be a total lifesaver for getting in and out comfortably. If you're getting a body lift or thigh lift, I HIGHLY recommend getting it. Write it off as part of the necessary experience. Trust me. I can't imagine doing it without one!! I saw Dr. Katzen one last time before heading home so he could remove my drains. It didn't hurt at all, THANK GOD. I'd been so nervous about that part, even more than the actual surgery if you can believe it, but honestly, I barely felt a thing. Half of them came out without me even noticing, and the rest just felt like a quick little tickle. I was so relieved. I even filmed the drain removal and shared it on my YouTube channel. I waited almost a year to write this review. It's been around 10 months since my 1st surgery (body lift & arms) and 9 months since my 2nd surgery (thighs & torso). I wanted to carefully monitor my long term progress and recovery. Looking at my results, I just don't think this could have turned out any better. I couldn't be happier. My clothes fit right, my posture feels better, and I feel confident in my skin again... something I haven't felt in years. I'm living my best life now. I'm traveling the world, going on hikes in the mountains, walking along sandy beaches, meeting new people wherever I go. In those moments, I often think of my experience with Dr. Katzen can't help but look up and feel grateful for how far I've come. The people at his office were incredible, too. I should've written this a long time ago. I had surgery with doctor Katzen 18 months ago. It was subpar. I got an infection so he said, and then I went into the office and instead of letting me get IV he cut me open in the same place that he had just did surgery on me without my permission. Left me with an open wound for six months I had to spend $40,000 on hyperbaric treatments to heal myself and then I had to spend another $90,000 fixing what he did to me. I highly recommend if you need silicone removal. Do not do it in the United States and do not go to this doctor go to Colombia. I am looking for a medical malpractice doctor to sue him. read more

I had surgery with Dr Katzen this past September. I was approaching my 60th bday and thought "am I too old to have surgery"? I had wanted a breast lift and tummy tuck for some time but was too "scared" to go under anesthesia. As most people feel at my age. I decided to GO FOR IT! And I am so glad I did! I was not looking to have a 21 year old body, that wasn't realistic. But I sure do look like I did in my late 30's! I feel confident in my body, no more muffin top, and I can get away with just wearing a sports bra. I am looking forward to going shopping for new summer clothes! I spent an entire week emailing this doctor's office pictures of a proposed surgical procedure. The scheduler made an appointment for me to speak with Dr. Katzen about the procedures I wanted. I spent nearly an hour on a Saturday speaking with this doctor. At the end of the call, he stated he would have his office email me a price quote on the following Monday. I never heard from him or his office staff again. I reached out to his office staff, after a few days, to make them aware that I was still awaiting a price quote. The receptionist assured me she would make sure someone followed up. To date, no one has called or emailed. Very unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. I do not recommend. read more

Simply put, I am deformed. I'm a young, active and healthy 55 year old woman I want to Dr Katzen because I had a saggy bottom due to overly aggressive liposuction in my early 20's. "A deflated balloon", the doctor called it. A total of 6 lbs was removed. It is now 1 1/2 years later and I'm so much worse than when I started. My body is severely concave where the stitches were. I cannot wear any clothing that shows my waist or hips. At my last visit the doctor said this should likely reconcile itself within a matter of months. It has not. I've have several sessions with someone who does scar tissue release in the hopes that my body goes back to a relatively normal shape, but this has had very limited success. I'm left with a deformity that is much harder to conceal with clothing than my saggy butt ever was. Looking on google to find a Dr in the states to give me a butt lift and remove Silicone injections" that i have done over 13 years ago was some scary mess. I couldn't believe it wasn't a lot of Dr and i couldn't believe it had came to this !I kept hearing people tell me to go to Colombia it's cheaper ! But cheaper is what got me here! I wanted to LIVE !!! Out of the country wasn't an option for me especially because my son is only 2 years old , i knew i needed the care in the states if something was to go wrong . I immediately requested an appointment which was just going to be a butt lift because the silicone and gravity had weighed my butt down . I started seeing it from the front . That's was not cute lolin my head i said " hey I'm not having any major issues just a few knots and tenderness", i wasn't ready to go through with a full "open technique removal "! Once i arrived at the office ANNA and Yesyka were available with scheduling and making sure all my questions were answered. I finally was able to meet "Dr kaTZEN " wow what a nice man ! He took his time with me . Answered all my questions and told me why now was the best time for a full removal !!!! Again , i wasn't ready buttt i decided at that moment "let's do it"! My health is way more important! Sure, you guys i worried about how am i gonna pay for this in 4 months and definitely how am i going to look but again my health was way more important. Once i decide to do surgery July 7 2023 i knew I'd be free from this stuff in my body . My eye sight started to change and as i got closer to surgery i began to feel more pain in my lower back . So i believe i made the right decision. Post surgery......: everything went great he removed about 10 pound of silicone,fat ,skin, fluids out of me . I felt so light and happy . But get ready for this ........... day 2 of surgey for about 2 weeks was terrifying for me . I was in a lot of pain so make sure you take your medicine ON TIME! The entire team at dr kaTZEN office was ALWAYS ON CALL I'm talking top of the line BEVERLY HILLS SERVICE . TALIA, oh she's great any time I'd call her (Dr assistant) she would reply immediately even Dr kaTZEN would call me back! I felt like i received great care from the entire staff! You really need full 6 weeks and atleast 4 weeks no driving , sitting For long periods because stitches can Pop and then you have to care for that which will delay the healing process (i did this so trust me when i say .. rest well take it easy . This is not a easy surgery when doing "open technique "!) Dr kaTZEN was there to stitch me up after i popped my stitches out on my hip area . He did not rush me out or leave me to figure it out on my own, send me to the EMG ROOM or pay for this . He simply told me " we will care for it and stitch you back up when time permits after caring for the wound"! I am so happy that i chose Dr kaTZEN. If your thinking going cheaper just think about why your getting it removed ! Pay for quality work. Save the money if need and go to Dr kaTZEN . I will say this ... make sure you have a good support team because the trauma that you will go through the first 2 weeks is real and you need a team by your side . And if you can avoid looking at your butt for at-least 4 weeks, that will also help your mental . The body changes daily after surgery from what i learned and I'm loving my new smaller booty! Now almost 9 weeks post I'm my hips are 3 1/2" smaller , no huge knots in my back or butt . I still have numbness but i can sit comfortably, drive and wear my clothes again my eyesight has been restored . Although Dr. kaTZEN says it's impossible to get 100 percent out , i believe he got 98 percent. I'm happy and healthy. Now on my way to a full recovery ‍ Dr. KaTZEN is a compassionate person with experience over 20 years. Excellent Patient Care. I had 2 surgeries with Dr. Katzen. The 1st surgery was on March 31, 2022, with the open technique of silicone injection removal. The 2nd surgery was this past March 29, 2023, with the fat transfer to the buttocks & hip(s) area. I am very please with my results from both surgeries. He & his staff are very professional & I never had to wait when I came in for my appointments. He prescribed the best meds for pain management & I also had a pain pump for both surgeries. I was very concerned about infections because I had poison in my system for 17 years & he also prescribed the best antibiotics. If you have illegal injections flowing in your body, Dr. Katzen is the surgeon for removal because he has over 20 years of experience. I flew all the way from Tennessee to L.A. & it was well worth it on both visits. I you & thank u Dr. Katzen. I had my first microneedling treatment done by Talia, Dr. Katzen's PA a month ago. Talia explained the procedure and aftercare steps I needed to take. She used a numbing cream on my face to minimize the pain of the microneedles, and took breaks to make sure I was doing OK. About 2-3 days after the treatment, I started to notice my skin looking more refreshed and brighter. About two weeks in, I really saw a difference in the texture and overall complexion. I'll get my second treatment in a couple of weeks and am really excited to see more improvement. To anyone suffering from silicone, find a different doctor. As someone who has a business I'm not for negative reviews. I really don't like leaving any negative experiences public, but this office doesn't offer any sort of customer service. When it comes to health it should be taken seriously. They completely wasted my time, lied, ignored calls and emails, gave me the run around, and absolutely beyond rude to someone who is in desperate need. I met katzen last year when I realized I was injected with silicone overseas and my face began to deform. I hid my face for a year so far. He asked me to come back in a few months so I did. Got the MRI he asked for after needing to ask them several times to please tell me where to go for my insurance to help cover the $1000 MRI. Once I got it done I had to consistently call and ask if they received it yet. Once they did Katzen called and went over the extensive findings. The most dangerous being the silicone has migrated to my eye which can cause blindness. He was concerned and had me scheduled to come in the next week little did I know he only had 5 minutes to talk to me. This is not a surgery that only takes 5 minutes to talk about. I felt discouraged and again needed to schedule a phone consult since my 5 minutes were up. Over the phone he was concerned to get the surgery sooner than later and get it within '6 months'. He needed to do the open technique which is a huge surgery. He also knew I was in a lawsuit with the 'doctor' that injected this into my face. He happily agreed to write up my procedure transcripts for my lawyer. So when I try to book the surgery they tell me he's not taking anyone until 2023. I was shocked and felt lost after what he told me was I needed to do this soon and no later than '6 months' and to book with the office soon. I'm so desperate to get this silicone out I offered to pay all cash to see if they can find a sooner date as nobody indicated I'd have to wait 8+ months. They said nope. I followed up with the office again since they never reach out to the client first, and asked what the status was for my lawyers letter in a nice way, which I'd always get 'we'll get back to you' as a response. Then someone named 'Jane Costey' writes the most rude and shocking email to me saying he's declining to help with the lawyer procedure letter, stop calling, and they're booked till 2023. Nice. I was just following up on what HE told me. So for a very expensive surgery with a life threatening injection that may make me blind, that's apparently not dangerous enough to help me find a sooner date. Imagine already feeling sick and horrible with silicone in your body and they treat you like nothing. They mislead, lie, and don't care at all. You'd think with all the money they charge they'd have a smile on their face and at least give a call back. Absolute nightmare. So happy I didn't spend my money on these people. There are many other doctors that will take you seriously and want to help, but not here. He will continue to lose clients over his offices behavior and his misleading information. So much for being 'one of the best for silicone removal'. People that suffer from this know how emotional this is for us and expect the doctor to care especially when it's not even covered by insurance, only straight cash. My experience with doctor Katzen has been beyond awful both mentally and physically and when I mentioned what can we do to make this right he sends quotes for price for revisions for 20k . I should have not been charged and if anything offered a refund for leaving me scared and disfigured. Also I've attached pictures and my MRI still shows substantial silicone still in my buttocks( which I know you can't get 100 Percent out.) When I had a doctor visit I overheard him advising another patient to get an MRI but never advised me and unfortunately already had my surgery. He only sent me a recommendation to someone after I asked and the doctor who did it said there is no way of knowing how much was taken out because I didn't do one before. And as a board certified doctor I should have been advised. He assured me that The Ultra sound liposuction is all I needed which only made it spread and made my butt bigger)I don't understand why I wasn't advised to do an MRI before surgery.That should of been a prerequisite before surgery.Now I'm left with indentations, hyperpigmentation and Also from the aggressive liposuction He did on me has left my stomach uneven and lumpy with fibrosis in the front of my stomach and my sides. My arms are left uneven and with very visible scars.I hate to say this because I thought he was a nice and kind person. But the results he has given me has scarred me not just physically but emotionally and mentally . I've had a therapist for the last 12 months to pick me up of this depression of my botched body and my lack of confidence from this whole experience. I honestly wish I never even did the surgery if I was going to be still left with silicone and now botched legs, stomach. Lower back and arms. I even consulted with other doctors trained professionals thinking I went out of the country for this surgery. To me telling them that I went to an accredited doctor in Beverly Hills. They honestly felt very sympathetic for me as there was nothing they could do. But I appreciated the honesty and not just wanting my money. Because their reputation meant more to them than money. I made a bad choice at the age of 19 and didn't want to repeat the mistake by going cheap and not a professional but paid so much to have it worst. Is just depressing. Especially someone who works so hard for their money, (Which we all do )I feel I just threw it away. And on top of everything being quoted thousands of dollars to fix something he did. The pictures below show clearly that this is not acceptable and should have been given refund or some type of remedy to this situation . I even emailed him and tried to handle this matter between him and I. Instead he had Jane email me saying to not contact his office again attached is the letter. I went to him thinking he was the best but only to leave me worst. He only wants your money and when you're not doing that he wants nothing to do with you. I strongly advise to not use him. It's taken me some time to get the courage to write and post pictures because it's traumatized me. I will make sure to tell everyone I know to not use him. Without a doubt the kindest Dr I have ever met. Dr Katzen and his team are amazing from start to finish. I had two surgeries with Dr Katzen both for the same issue. I had gone to a prior surgeon and was left with a horrible scar and worse problem than when I started. The previous surgeon said I just need to live with it? He expected me to live with poison in my body, active infection, skin discoloration and disfigured. My case was and has been complicated. Dr Katzen could have just turned me away but he didn't. He started me on new antibiotics right away and got my infection under control and shortly after we went into surgery to fix the issue. Ive had two surgeries and both surgeries were a success and I am and will forever be grateful to him, Talia and the amazingly kind staff. The decision to have any major surgery should never be taken lightly. Surgery can be incredibly daunting; complications can and do occur. With that said, I knew from the beginning that Dr. Katzen was going to be my surgeon after our first meeting. During consultation, Dr. Katzen and his team were incredibly open about the process, including the realities of recovery, follow-ups, and scar treatment. I had two major procedures within the span of 8 weeks. After the first surgery, my body wasn't too happy about the procedure, to say the least. Dr. Katzen and his team were incredibly communicative and accessible throughout what was a difficult recovery process. Now, 6 months after my first surgery, I know that the hallmark of a great surgeon is how they guide you through any complications you might experience. I was anemic after surgery and had issues with wounds opening, but thankfully, those issues are now behind me. Having major surgery and going through the recovery process is an emotional journey just as much as a physical one. It was painful, I was completely reliant upon others, and it can be expensive. These are all factors one should consider before surgery. However, if someone were to ask me (and ask me they have), if I could, would I do it all over again knowing what I know now? must admit that I am very sorry to write this review for the Dr.. but that's what I feel the sorrow is just too much after paying thirty two thousand dollars for not having any kind of results. I went back to him to do Bbl. I paid for every single fat home area. Wrong thing because a good doctor doesn't charge per area but takes fat from each area! In all this, a bbl intervention in Europe costs not even five thousand euros. This is already absurd. My first estimate for the bbl alone was 20 thousand to which another 12 thousand pains were added to add other areas. Price that I had to add the evening before the surgery. The result is terrible, I lost 50% of fat, especially because the doctor only took 400 cc per side!!! A few days after the operation I tried to complain but I received no attention, in fact I felt cheated by telling myself that I had to wait another few weeks to see my result get worse every day! I had the impression that the doctor is only tied to the issue of money and propaganda on social media but he cares little about his patients. I went to other doctors after his mistake and I was told that the surgery was done badly... speaking to him he asked me again for absurd sums to redo the surgery which had gone wrong due to his negligence! read more

In October 2016, after losing 220 pounds after weight loss surgery in 2011, I decided it was time to lose all of the excess skin that remained around my waist, chest and back. I met Dr Katzen at an Obesity Help conference. I instantly knew he was the one. He was very attentive and understanding. No amount of words can describe how grateful I am to have found this doctor! I had illegal silicone injected in my buttocks when I was 23. Little did I know that they will almost kill me 10 years later! End stage renal failure and dialysis is not exactly what I wanted to hear at 33 years of age. There was no significant evidence to prove if the free floating silicone was responsible for any of it but it was a theory from my amazing kidney doctor. For 2 years I researched all the facts, had to get on the transplant list, paid doctors for consults to see if anyone can help me and all I seemed to find was Drs that either wouldn't operate on me stating that I'm a "liability" or drs that said well it looks fine maybe you shouldn't touch it. Finally I found Dr Katzen! I watched his videos, read the reviews and somehow felt that maybe there might be hope for me still. I had scheduled a consult with Dr Katzen via SKYPE and it was for FREE! I made a list of so many questions or concerns I had and he answered them all. We spoke for nearly an hour. I never felt pressured of any kind and his team helped me with anything And everything! I needed to know I tried everything to save my life so after 4 months I scheduled my surgery. The dr and the staff gave me all the information I needed such as were to stay for the after care, how long to stay for and what I would need since I was coming from NY. So there I was going in to surgery and my future was in his hands. 8 hours it took to get this out of me! It has migrated to the hips and the groin area! But it was all out and I was alive! According to the other doctors I wouldn't have made it thru a surgery like that. Yet in the hands of Dr Katzen there I was alive and happy. Fast forward 6 months after... I feel like a whole new person! The scars altho all the way around my body are tiny, my body looks better now then before, I feel amazing and the most important fact I no longer need a kidney transplant, nor do I need dialysis my calcium stabilized I'm no longer anemic and I get my period every month not 2 times a year like before. My name is Jacki and I had the RNY gastric bypass 4.5 years ago. I went from 365lbs. down to 230lbs. Even though I was so happy with my results, nothing prepared me for how much excess skin, fat, and tissue I would still have. In my life, I've received medical care from some amazing doctors, but this one quite simply changed my life more than any doctor before or since. It would be easy to give that honor to the Dr. who performed my bariatric surgery -- but I only have one "award" to give, and that belongs to Dr. Katzen. I've attempted to write this review many times in the past week, but everything I wrote underwhelmed and fell woefully short of adequately describing my experience. So, I'll begin by describing his qualities (and hope it gets better from there). Dr. Katzen is compassionate, gentle, encouraging, reassuring, experienced and of course, talented. His knowledge of the special needs of bariatric patients goes far beyond the typical "plastic surgeons" who advertise to my community, and he has an innate understanding of how it feels to be stuck inside a body with skin that doesn't fit anymore. I am NOT the "average" plastic surgery patient. Before my WLS, I was the last person you'd ask if you wanted approval to have any "work" done, and only "accepted" plastic surgery in cases where someone had been severely disfigured in an accident. That was before I lost my weight...I quickly learned, the most hardened adversaries can become the fiercest advocates. After losing 180 pounds, I was left with a wingspan and saggy pouches where my breasts should have been. I couldn't wear tops my size, because my arms were too big, and I never went sleeveless, My chest was easier to camouflage, but once the clothes came off, it was a different story. My husband never complained, but we did share a laugh at the look of my poor body. He lovingly said he would support me in whatever decision I made, so I immediately set about researching plastic surgeons. When I found Dr. Katzen on ObesityHelp.com, he was highly recommended and heavily reviewed (he had over 158 entries, compared to the "next best" surgeon, with 7). There wasn't a single negative word about him -- even though the patients' stories were brutally honest. They did not sugar-coat their surgical experiences or complications, yet their praise & admiration for Dr. Katzen were palpable & undeniable. Clearly, if you had complications, you couldn't ask for a more qualified doctor to shepherd you through the rough spots. (I agree.) I attended a free seminar in Oct 2008 and had my consultation the same day. I thought I would be really uncomfortable being exposed but I was so excited I actually FIT the fancy robe, I completely forgot to be nervous! He showed me how wonderful my arms would look, and how perky my breasts would be, and I was sold! I never felt judged, humiliated, or uncomfortable. His bedside manner is wonderful and calming -- which is probably why I call him Dr. KatZEN. I had my surgery Feb 09, and all I can say is, this man is a GENIUS! An Artist! A Gifted Surgeon! He translated my hopes, dreams and wishes into reality when he gave me gorgeous new arms and chose the right sized implants for my breasts. He was there for me throughout my entire recovery and never made me feel crazy when I called to tell him how much I hurt. He monitored me closely so I didn't get addicted to my pain meds (which was a fear of mine), and he was so gracious & accommodating, he even called me on his way home from surgery -- at 8:00 at night! I always felt like his only patient, and he never rushed me. He is simply the finest doctor I've ever had, and I am happy to write this review because I believe so strongly in his abilities as a gifted surgeon. If your thinking of visiting this doctor, think twice! Be warned. Seems nice and helpful at first but in the end he is not even a good person. I have tried to resolve this horrific visit through my credit card company but to no avail. But it has given me even more insight to the depth of the character of this person. The amount of lies he is telling and turning things around is beyond bad. Let me leave you with a few of his own words to account for his character. "I have done everything for this patient to correct his lower eyelids". Note: They did need correcting after his procedure gone bad. He adds, "I have returned his lower eyelids to their initial presenting condition". LIE! I have a half circle under one eye that he says needs a surgical procedure that he is happy to give me a price quote for. I did not come in to this doctor NEEDING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE AND NOW I DO! Get this one? He says, "As evidenced by his threats and actions on social media and to the Medical Board of California, he is trying to extort money"! Really? You want me to pay more money and he is saying i'm extorting"? Just do yourself a favor. Stay away. read more

When I heard about PermaLip soft silicone implants I was intrigued and did my due diligence, reading and watching everything I could find about the specifics of the procedure. From most of the photos I saw the results looked very natural and not like Donald Duck. I've had other cosmetic work done in the past and I knew that if I opted for PermaLip I wanted to keep the existing natural proportions of my lips, which would mean going with the same size on the top and bottom. I met with a few doctors about PermaLip and during my consultation with Dr. Katzen I knew on the spot that he was the doctor to choose. He was the only doctor that explained his technique of positioning the implants closer to the lip muscles so as not to risk appearing like a small worm on top of the soft tissue, a problem I'd read about some patients of other doctors having. My consultation was on a Monday and I booked the procedure for Friday of the same week. I was happy Dr. Katzen was able to fit me into the schedule so quickly since I'm the type that prefers to just bite the bullet and get a procedure done as soon as I've committed to it - no point in waiting months and thinking about it! On the day of the procedure I arrived on time and Dr. Katzen started the procedure a few minutes later. He and his office team are really organized and coordinated which is great because patients aren't made to wait which is always a pet peeve of mine. Dr. Katzen briefly outlined what he'd be doing and showed me the sterile unopened implants. We'd both agreed that the 5mm (65mm length) on the top and bottom would be the best fit for my lips and create a natural enhanced look. Literally the worst part of the process is the numbing, which I expected based on experience with prior in-office procedures. Dr. Katzen basically gave me a dental block in my lips and an injection near a nerve in the top of my lip almost brought a tear to my eye. Beyond that the rest was a piece of cake. I'd taken a klonopin to be calm during the procedure and a percocet to get ahead of any pain I might feel when the lidocaine ultimately wore off. I didn't feel anything except a bit of tugging/manipulation to my lips but it was totally tolerable, so much so that I was snapchatting part of the procedure when the alligator clamp tool was totally through my lip. The implants went in smoothly and fit perfectly, so luckily Dr. Katzen didn't need to trim the ends at all. Once the implants were in Dr. Katzen put a couple dissolvable sutures in each side and I was ready to go home. By the way, he uses a technique of only two incisions (one on each side) of the inside corners of the lips whenever possible. I'd seen some other doctors online make 4 incisions, one on each side of both the top and bottom lip. I'm no doctor but I feel like Dr. Katzen's method is probably more effective and makes recovery easier/faster. My lips were very swollen for about 3 days, the second or third day was the worst. The pain was pretty uncomfortable the day of the procedure once the local anesthetic wore off but it was managed easily with minimal Percocet. I slept well the first night with my head elevated to reduce swelling and in the morning any pain I'd had was gone, I didn't need anymore paid medication. I also had almost zero bruising which is probably a combination of three things - my genetics, Dr. Katzen's expertise, and the cocktail of Arnica, Bromelain, and Quercetin I'd started taking the day prior to the procedure and continued with for a week after. Basically for a week I just looked like someone who'd had too much Juvederm but it wasn't so bad I couldn't go out in public. Admittedly I was a bit nervous by the amount of swelling the day after surgery and called Dr. Katzen on a Saturday, he had me send a photo and immediately assured me it was normal and would go down by using some ice. Sure enough he was right. I used one of those retro ice packs with the twist top (brand is called "Cool Queen" online) and it helped tremendously. I used one with a kiss print on it which I thought was fitting haha I've now had the implants in for 10 days and I love the result! To me it looks natural and was the perfect amount of enhancement for my face proportions. Dr. Katzen is a great surgeon and gets extra points for being an all around nice guy with a sense of humor. I'd trust his eye and expertise with any procedure. Definitely one of the best doctors in LA! read more
