I was expecting to sit and read while my oil was being changed, but Orlando asked if I wanted to learn a bit about what he was doing so I could understand what other places might say when I go home for future oil changes. He did routine checks on other things--transmission fluid, tires, etc.--and explained what other places will try to charge me for that actually doesn't need to be done. Also, apparently, the last place I had gone for an oil change had put an A/C gasket seal where the oil gasket would normally go...PROBLEM, which is why it was leaking...BOTTOM LINE: Orlando actually CARES about good service and has nothing to hide. The price was better than I've had, and I received far better service from Orlando than I ever have at any other auto shop. All of the staff are friendly, make an effort to greet you and take as much time as needed to explain the repairs and service recommendations. They are not high pressure and I really like that they use text and email to communicate (which pictures) the condition of the car and the repairs. Overall I found the pricing to be fair, not the cheapest and not the moat expensive. The parts were high quality and I love that they have free loaner cars. If you need service or repairs, these guys should be a top choice.

A few days later it was still smelling of antifreeze so I investigated. There was a leak from the heater hose that Honest Wrench's didn't catch before I picked up the vehicle. I confronted them and said if the technician had taken it for a test drive after the service he certainly would've discovered the leak. Of course I got some B.S. that they always check it. Clearly they didn't finish the job. Also, they are waaay over priced. I called another service after the fact and found Dis-Honest Wrenches was overcharging by $600. There are many places in Des Moines for better auto service.

Scheduled an appointment for an inspection for a roaring sound coming from the car. The person who…read morehelped me upon entering (was welcoming) did not disclose any cost for the service. They quoted me just under $3,000 to change the gaskets, replace the catalytic convertor, and a myriad of other parts and services related to replacing the exhaust system. They also recommended I change the spark plugs. I had new spark plugs installed less than 100 miles earlier. When I asked them about this, they said it was only a "mileage based recommendation". Why should I trust any of their other diagnoses if they wanted $205 to replace spark plugs I just had installed? When I declined the service, the guy assisting me at the counter requested $49 "to throw at the technician". Not wanting an argument at the counter, I paid and figured I'd dispute the charges later. They put on a good front with the bottled water, shuttle service, and Biblical references on their website. They seem to have forgotten Matthew 22:39; the first verse they quote..."Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" I was able to go to a local shop and they welded/fixed the flex pipe for $120 without any of the BS.
