From the moment you walk in, the salon feels open, spacious, welcoming, and inviting. Tim's cutting technique is unlike anything I've experienced before. His attention to detail, precision, and ability to create a style that truly works for you is phenomenal. You can immediately tell he takes tremendous pride in his craft. What really stood out to me was seeing one extremely nasty review that seemed completely out of place compared to all the others. Out of curiosity, I looked at that individual's other reviews and, as expected, they were consistently negative and horrific across the board -- which completely discredited the opinion for me. Tim is absolutely exceptional at what he does. In fact, I've already booked appointments with him for the rest of the year because I can't afford not to be on his schedule! If you are looking for a truly talented stylist in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area, I highly recommend Tim at Studio U.

While he was doing my hair he was making me laugh literally the whole entire time when he was fishing my hair. He is funny, goofy, and made my day. Although I like the 'pandemic roots' trend, I was more than ready to have my color done and Chelsea always does the best job! Many things changed at the salon and understandably so. First of all, they were able to use the lock down time to make some serious renovations and the salon is looking refreshed and airy! I love the new look, the stations are positioned differently and a much brighter color scheme makes it feel much bigger. Don't worry though, the owl leitmotif is still present ;) Many safety precautions are in place, so that we can all feel safe. The human density limits are strictly followed and everyone is required to wear a mask. I was always very confident in this Salon's sanitation practices, but now it is enforced to an even higher standard. They only work by appointment now, so get yours while you can! Beware that they cannot do any blowouts, so you can request a dry cut, otherwise you will need to leave with your hair wet. I was happy they didn't add any surcharge for extra sanitation, but since you don't get the blowout it feels more fair. Some advice: wear a disposable surgical mask when you have your color done, because the ear loops might get messy and might damage your fancy cloth mask. Do not bring any chunky handbags or food in, help keep everything clean. Make sure you know the new COVID-19 drill posted on their website and fill the waiver online. Other than that, relax and enjoy your hair being done! We waited so long for that! Yaaay!

Finally! I have a stylist in Cincinnati! It has been more than a decade since I've had a stylist…read morefor a multitude of reasons, and I'd honestly given up, but I FOUND HER! Aniya has a quaint little suite in the Nobel building just across from Mcklenburg Gardens, which is close to UC's central campus. Truth be told, I'd tried another stylist in the same building and was less than impressed for the same reasons I've never been able to find a stylist in the past: I was on time but she had another person in the chair and had to start 30 minutes late; I had to have my hair already washed and blow dried, all she did was corn-row me, and she charged me $100! She was nice enough, but nobody is going to consistently pay you to take advantage of them. Thankfully, there were other stylists in the building I could try out, and I'm glad I did! Aniya over in Suite 1 is serving up JUST the right services at just the right pace and prices. She's been READY for me when I show up, I've had an amazing shampoo experience on the bowl, she detangles like a pro (no pulling or snags!), and my cornrows stay in place for a month solid. Best of all, she only charged me $50! Now that's a stylist I can get and stay behind. I'm looking forward to trying her silk presses and other services. They're all reasonably priced, and she's a delight to work with: professional, kind, talented, and not trying to make you pay all her bills while having you do half the work. Go check her out!

Most places offer 60 and 90 minute sessions (501 also has these options, but I love the shorter ones). I put in my notes when I booked online that it was my first massage and I was nervous it would be painful. When I arrived, the front desk attendant was very kind and took me upstairs to the spa. (Note - not sure how accessible this place is - I did not notice an elevator). My masseuse was Ashley, and she was incredible. She walked me through the process knowing I was apprehensive, explained any add ons, and made me feel at ease. She is so good at what she does, and I genuinely cannot wait to go back.

However, the results were consistently not what I requested. I brought in an inspiration photo and clearly stated multiple times that I did not want any red tones. The result was noticeably red/orange and looked nothing like the photo. I called the salon, and they were courteous and offered to correct it. The manager was helpful and encouraged me to return to the same stylist so she could learn from the situation. Although I was uncomfortable with that, I agreed as long as there was guidance. At the redo appointment, I again showed the inspiration photo and reiterated my concerns. Unfortunately, I left with hair that was pinkish/reddish/yellow and extremely dry -- again, not aligned with what I requested. The manager did ask if I was happy with it, but with the stylist present, I felt uncomfortable speaking up and said very little. The situation felt awkward and difficult to address in the moment. While the redo was comped, I was charged approximately $150 for a root retouch. Within just a few days, my silver growth was already visible. At this point, I am over $500 into the experience and have left each appointment feeling embarrassed rather than confident. I've decided to move on and find another salon, but I was truly disappointed by how far the final results were from what was clearly communicated.
