This is the first winery I've ever gone to and Leylany made it a super special experience! I enjoyed tasting their selections, the ambiance inside and out, and their friendly staff! It's definitely a spot I like revisiting and I've liked their events such as the Halloween Party last year and when they have vendors and live bands come in. One my favorite gems in Morgan Hill for sure!

    Welcome!

I found J Winston while perusing through Yelp, looking for some Wineries I haven't visited. It's one of the newer wineries in the area... The owner has a construction background... and it shows; looks like a lot of thought was put into the construction of the outside and inside patio areas. Nice and clean venue...has that brand spanking NEW look and feel to it...even thought I believe they've been open for around three years or so... Michelle helped us out this Friyay. She gave us a breakdown of the tasting menu and some facts about the Winery. The owner insisted on sourcing grapes from as many local areas as possible. Vino Vino: ~ Chardonnay, Central Coast - 2017 - 4/5 Easy to drink ~ Grenache Rose, Santa Clara - 2022 - 4/5 Good flavor. Very Unique flavor ~ Pinot Noir Reserve, San Benito - 2019 - 4/5 Good Pinot. Smooth Easy to drink ~ Zinfandel, Paicines - 2019 - 5/5 Our crowd favourite! Bold and rich yet easy to drink! ~ Meritage, Santa Clara - 2018 - 3.5/5 Good, but I had better Meritage before The wines are lovely... We literally didn't have a bad one! The Zinfandel was the winner of the day...hands down everyone's favorite... In fact, after going through the tasting menu, we ended up purchasing a bottle and enjoying it there as well as getting a bottle for later! In addition the Grenache Rose also made it's home with one of my friends... Will be back...in a bigger group.

Beautiful place to relax. Went on a Saturday afternoon to drink yummy Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. If you forget snacks, they've got you covered with refrigerated options to buy. Food trucks and live music made for a memorable day. The hours are good too.

We walked in here Saturday around 3pm. It wasn't busy at all. There's maybe 3 other outdoor tables that were taken. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor areas are pretty aired out too. Tasting flight is $15 for 5 wines. Wines here are bolder. Red wines are more earthy tasting. We liked the Merlot and cab. Pours aren't generous here. But we did get to try 1 reserve cab. You can bring food/snacks. They do not process the wines here yet.

Directions: Don't follow your google maps. Its off by a few hundred feet and its across the street from where it takes you. You're better off looking for the sign as soon as you pull on to the street. My friends and I did a wine tasting and it was great on a Sat afternoon. there were only 2 other parties of 2 and us so it was nice and quiet. Newish looking place with plenty of room outdoors and in. Great place to hang with friends and drink wine.

We went on a Friday evening & had wine, pizza & crème brûlée. I can't recommend enough. I absolute loved their rosé! Don't let the simple set up of the pizza fool you the pizza is sooo good. Perfect crust & sauce. And don't sleep on the crème brûlée it was so good

The staff did a great job at decorating the space and making this outdoor concert feel like an intimate experience. The table setup made the crowd feel like they're apart of a community. At sunset, this winery has stunning views of their vineyards. The concert was great. Pasquale is a resident guest of the winery and has a phenomenal voice. The food offered (chicken marsala, sausage and peppers, and balsamic vinegar dressed salad) was underwhelming. The selection was limited and food was cold. By the time I got to the food table, they had run out of the sausage dish. The wine selection was very good though. I particularly liked a few of the white wines offered during the event. The staff and servers were all friendly. It is apparent they all enjoy working here. The donation-pushing felt a bit tacky, however. During the entirety of my visit, I felt like I was being asked to donate (at the table, during dinner, before and after the performance). Of course their cause (providing music lessons to children) is incredibly important and has left a clear impact on the program's students, but it ended up taking away from my experience (especially considering the high cost of the concert tickets). Side note: the parking situation is challenging. There are very few handicapped parking stalls with a tiny lot. On concert nights, parking is located across the road at the neighboring high school. If you are visiting with anyone that has mobility issues, definitely come early to secure close parking. If you get the chance to see a Pasquale Esposito concert here, I would definitely go!

"My wine-making philosophy is 'good grapes, good wine. The wine is made in the vineyard through…read moregood viticulture and by mother nature's fermentation process. The wine maker must be a good babysitter to this process." -- Jerry Ross So working and living in the area of Morgan Hill I have recently seen a bunch of signs popping up directing drivers to Morgan Hill's newest winery: Ross Vineyards. Turns out there are 50+ signs all about the area so after hiking Uvas Canyon, I saw a couple more and had to stop in. The Winery is situated on a Hill overlooking Chesebro Reservoir. The vineyard and winery are located on the site of the historic Coffe Ranch whose original owner Joseph Coffe came to the United States from France in 1870 and five years later Mr. Coffee founded The Wine Depot Winery in San Jose. The family lived and farmed on the 300-acre ranch along Llagas Creek in Morgan Hill for three generations the Coffe and cultivated 50 acres of vineyards. The original ranch buildings and farming/winery equipment are still at Ross Vineyards and it was a kick today tasting in the historic barn filled with antiques and photos. Jerry Ross is quite a character and is the main reason for the 5 stars. He was a non-stop story teller, with a Bud of all things, while his grandson was pouring wine and his wife Judy encouraged everyone to sit down and eat the hot dogs and beans that were prepared (I had a dog with the homemade beans. Very good). Jerry was a home winemaker starting in the late 90's and the winery was bonded in 2005. The tasting room opened in May, 2013 and it is a must-visit in the area for the views, the ambiance and the awesome vibes one gets from the Ross's. Married 50 years, this is how wine tasting should be: fun and unpretentious!!! (Here is what my 8 readers are waiting for) None of that fussy stuffiness and overblown pretentious nouveau-riche chateau you find at The Winery That Shall Not Be Named (although we usually do). A messy ranch with rental homes, a tasting room in a historic barn, hot dogs and beans from a crockpot and a funny dog knocking a balloon into the air with his nose until it pops. The winery sells only red wines, grown on Ross Hill Vineyard which is above the tasting barn, and they include Cabernet, Merlot, Barbera, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Petit Syrah, Mourvedre, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel. I enjoyed the 2007 Tempranillo very much and bought two bottles. The other wines were good to very good and I think you will be surprised at the quality. Ross Hill Vineyard is two acres and the winery makes 14 barrels of wine a year. Most of the wines sell for between $20 to $25 So get away from snooty wineries (Hmmm, which one one comes to mind? Oh I remember...) where just getting a cracker, much less a taste, becomes an exercise in civil disobedience. Come out here in the beautiful backcountry of Morgan Hill and let the Ross's, on the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month, show you some true Santa Clara Valley hospitality. Highly recommended!

Castillo's Hillside Shire Winery Review from my visit on Sunday 5/17/2026…read more I was very excited to visit this location because the photos online looked absolutely stunning. The beautiful home and landscape are very well kept, and the winery itself is a cozy little spot nestled along the hillside. Prior to visiting, my friend kindly called about two weeks in advance to ask permission to take her graduation photos there so we wouldn't be imposing on their property. We were told it would be perfectly fine as long as we purchased a bottle of wine, which we happily agreed to. Unfortunately, upon arriving, our experience was disappointing. The woman working in the tasting room came across as very cold and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. She repeatedly questioned us about taking photos and stated there was a $250 insurance charge required for photography on the property. When we explained that permission had already been given over the phone, she simply responded with "okay" before ringing me up for a $49 bottle of wine. What was most disappointing was the lack of kindness and professionalism. I was genuinely excited to visit this winery and support the business, but the uncomfortable interaction completely changed my perspective on the location. Hospitality goes a long way in the winery industry, and unfortunately, we did not feel welcomed here at all. Such a beautiful property, but sadly the customer service experience left a lasting impression, and not in a positive way.

It's street parking only, but here that just means you'll be down a block or so instead of right in front. This is a smaller space located in an old school colonial style courtyard. There is seating at the counter for six (comfortably) to eight (if you are really friendly) and there are a couple of two spots based on empty barrels scattered around. For the most part you'll be at the counter. The decor is pretty standard wine tasting room stuff with the exception of the local art display. As far as the wine goes, you know how it is. One persons nirvana is another persons bread and butter and a third persons nausea. The wine to my uncultured palate is not great-but it is good. The reds on offer here are pretty decent. They are aiming for some exquisite spanish styles and well, stick with the reds. They are not quite where they want to be just yet. Even though (to my mind anyway) the wine is just okay, there is one area it becomes excellent. On my visit it was entirely possible to get a case of wine for forty bucks. Sure, it's not a perfect wine(very much so), but as I've said before perfect is the enemy of good enough and this wine is more then good enough especially at forty dollars a case. Heck at that price you could take a bath in it han dynasty style, harem not included. When its all said and done this is a charming, small (I would say terroir but that might only confuse people pianist style) very local winery not without it's small charms.
