Ate here last week and will likely not be back, as our family member sold their cabin in town and it's pretty far from house, but made our last trip here for our last AWESOME dinner. Of course their salad bar is to die for there dressings must be home made, and they make fresh dinner rolls everyday. I had the super sized burger, not as delicious as last time but still great, can't put my finger on why I didn't like it as much, it was cooked a little more then I prefer. The tator tots were a treat, but was given a choice of sides and was not told there was an uncharge for tots, (hate surprises like that, as I would have been just fine with the included fries.) My fiancé had her favorite shrimp dinner but got it broiled this time and said it was like eating lobster. The soup with the salad bar was potato, best she has ever had, I tried a spoonful and must agree. If you guys weren't so far from home we would be back, maybe a special occasion, but thanks for filling our stomachs with such delicious food over the years. read more

Was in town for a wedding and wanted to dine where some of the locals did. Well, probably wasn't the best idea. Didn't want to drive too far into town so we stopped here. We sat at the bar and the short blond female bartender gave us all the looks. Now I'm not sure if that's because she hasn't traveled outside of Duelm where the population is at best 1,150. But unless you look like; Emma Stone, Morgan Wallen, Tilda Swinton or Neal McDonough, don't expect that kind sort of service. Traveling internationally and being all through the states, sometimes dining at little mom and pops restaurants can be so rewarding. We love supporting local and bringing our ones to small places. Unfortunately not the case here. Things to stick out positively was the salad bar is LEGIT! Lots of sections, two barrels of hot soup and it was clean. My wife and I ordered beers. The bartender had the WORST customer service. Her attitude and unwillingness to be kind was so off putting we almost left. But we stomached her horrible service. She said our dinners were supposed to come with rolls. We saw her walk to the kitchen but came back and said, "They ran out." Really? We understood there aren't many customers with gorgeous sugar brown skin that come through these doors. So as her tip was vastly dwindling, my walleye came out. It was ok. As being In Minnesota for my first time and trying the fish for the first time it all sat wrong. Not only were the people here rude, cold and acted as if they've never seen outsiders before, it wasn't a pleasant dining experience. And trust my wife and I were dressed very nicely with great jackets! So like I said, if you prefer being stared at and receiving worst service than at your churches Sunday spaghetti dinner, take your money and go somewhere else. read more

When you find yourself in Duelm, MN very likely you're lost, or you meant to be there to nick some of the local corn growing everywhere, or more than likely it's because you wanted to the there. In as much as I can tell the latter is the only reason to be in this town. To be fair, I'd never had Walleye. Ever. Suffice to say, I'm convinced this is how it was supposed to be be prepared and surely what God had in mind when He created the fish in the first place. It was fried to expert perfection and paired with fries that were far from ordinary. Just for grins I'd also ordered some ala carte jumbo shrimp, and WOW--I didn't think I could have anything that good so far from an ocean. Are there shrimp in any of their 10,000 lakes?? Who cares as long as they're as good as what I had. Nice and attentive service in the type of place I remember eating out with my grandparents when it was an actual treat. Sadly, this is the type of family owned place cherished by the locals but missing from society. They used to be everywhere and in every state. Service was good. Food and ambiance were disappointing. Country music so loud we couldn't hear each other or have a conversation, this was at 5:30 pm. I noticed other tables, especially older people, who were not conversing since it was hard to communicate. I ordered the ribeye sandwich, which was one of my favorite meals in the past. I received some weird hunk of grisly, inconsistent thickness, potential beef on burnt wonder bread. Not even edible. Cheeseburger for my grandson was black on the outside and so well done it was gray all the way through . The ones who had prime rib enjoyed it. I was comped for the inedible ribeye, but it was too late to order anything else. I understand food can be unpredictable, but the volume of the country music will have me exploring other options for a special family dinner for a group our size (9). read more

Ate here tonight for the first time, It was crazy busy place. They have a salad bar you can order just soup and salad for $13.00 or add the salad bar to any entry for $3.99. My brother and sister in law had this and said all the dressings were home made and very delicious. I had the fish sandwich and upgraded to some delicious bubbly onion rings for only $1.50 more. Fish was good but ended up a little too much deep fried for me, my partner had a burger that was so juicy and delicious and the buns were very fresh and smooshy (my word) The wait for the food was quite awhile but they were busy and our waitress was great. read more

Our family ate here on Saturday night as my sister said they have good prime rib on Saturdays. Wrong! Ordered Queen size for $28. Ordered medium rare. All of our were rare, undercooked, fatty and tough and swimming in au jou. I only ate 2 bites and trimmed a bunch of fat. Decided to take the rest of it home and to re smoke on my Traeger and cook to medium. The side of green beans were fresh and steamed. No seasoning. This place has a really good salad bar. The salads seemed homemade. I did like the broccoli and califlour salad, but it had too much sugar in it. The cucumber salad was also sweet. The lettuce was romaine and had delicious homemade ranch dressing. The garlic toast was good and these homemade buns on the table. My parents and sister's prime rib was also undercooked, rare and tough. Another table got and end piece and sent it back. Very disappointing prime rib. Spouse liked his burger, though. WHERE THE HELL AM I ?????????? Yup, in the middle of nowhere ! I was here in the new event center for a wedding reception, and the place is BIG. There was an elevated stage for the head table, and a very nice dance floor. Some of the staff was incredible, and some of them acted like they would rather be somewhere else, but some were very accommodating. We were treated to a buffet, but the overly saturated with dressing salads were served to each table. I liked that. I did NOT like the ice cold buns with hard as rock butter chips. The food was tasty and plentiful. The menu, however, left a lot to be desired. Not the restaurants fault. All in all, they did a decent job in an adequate venue. Several different types of steaks, pork ribs, huge shrimp, and a small salad bar that was only so-so (Iceberg lettuce, not too many options). The bar does have Bell's 2 Hearted (yay) and good draft options, with them available in 16 and 22 oz sizes. I bought a round of drinks for 8 guys (some had soda) and I was like - are you sure you got all 8? Well priced. My prime rib Saturday special was delicious, served in an au jus sauce. Don't get the steamed vegetables for the side, bleh. Might have been canned Del Monte. The potato options looked far better - they could offer more of a quality healthy option. We have given this restaurant a number of tries to impress but it is overpriced, the salad bar has too many gloppy sloppy mayonnaise type 'salads' with salty soup, and usually since it is 'family' approved there are tables of squalling kids in the center isles (of tables) next to the booth areas (which are usually couples). Each and every time our dining experience has been more like eating in the middle of daycare. While the owners cannot control the kids they could better arrange seating area. The positive side is that the steaks are good and the service is usually adequate. We visited at about 5:00 on a Wednesday - hubby had the New York Strip Steak special for $17.99 and was satisfied with quality and price. It came with a baked potato and soup and salad bar with delicious fresh yeast rolls. I looked on the menu for a nice salad choice - grilled chicken etc. (not available). I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger (and will pay the price later ...ugh). The 'mushrooms' were in a gravy sauce that was salty and disgusting and rendered the bun soggy sloppy. When I told our server Kassie that it would be helpful to tell customers ordering the burger that the mushrooms were in gravy sauce - her comment was 'well that's how we make them'. This place is the probably best restaurant in the area, whether you're going for a nice dinner or just a quick burger everything on the menu here is better than average. If it's steak, ribs or seafood you're looking for, they have it and it's good. The steaks are better than what you'd get at most expensive steak houses and they cook em' how you want them. The seafood is excellent as well and guess what? it's better than what you usually get at most expensive seafood restaurants. They have daily specials and a great salad bar in a friendly atmosphere. I've been coming here since I was a kid and not much has changed, it's kind of a hidden treasure out in the middle of nowhere. If you're going with a group on Friday or Saturday for dinner you may want to make reservations as it does get pretty busy. The food is nothing fancy: burgers, steaks, pork chops, and the like. But the dishes always exceed my expectations by being cooked and seasoned perfectly. After reading some of the negative reviews for this restaurant, we were afraid the quality might have slipped. We have never had a bad meal there, and can continue to brag after last night. Our server, Sherry (almost 40 years as a server!) knew what she was doing. They have a wonderful soup and salad bar (split pea with ham last night!) and a great bar with about 20 beer choices AND both Coke and Pepsi in addition to the usual liquors and wines available. Score! I had salmon with cajun seasonings and american fries, my hubby had prime rib and a baked potato and my brother had a steak with fresh-from-the-garden green beans. The restaurant was half empty for our earlish dinner, but then you get more of the server's time and can park that much closer to the door! I'm staying in the area for work and have been exploring, looking for good eateries, this was not the case at Jack & Jim's. The service was slow. I've had better breakfast steaks at a third of the price. The salad bar was fresh with a nice amount of fixings. I usually give a place a second chance, I don't see this place being worthy of that. read more

The food was fine, no problem there. The reason I am giving a poor review is due to poor service. It was a beautiful day outside the day we visited. The reason we chose this restaurant was because they have an outdoor patio and we wanted to soak up one of the last nice days to dine outside. We purposely went out of our way to come there for that reason. When we arrived, the server told us that they were not serving outside that day but there was no obvious reason why they could not have. The restaurant was slow and we took a table inside, the patio being directly on the other side of the wall. Had I been the server I would have been more than willing to take the order and carry the plates to the patio as it would have LITERALLY been only 10-15 feet further from the section where she was serving inside. A little would have gone a long way to customer satisfaction, this is what tips are meant to cover, and indeed her tip was impacted by not doing a little thing. read more

Took the family out to Jack & Jim's and had quite a different experience as the waitress seemed to think we needed to be rushed. My husband asked her for a pat of butter for his baked potato because it was over baked and had the consistency of chalk and she told him there was butter in his basket ( which there was not because we used it on the rolls.) She walked by without bringing him more butter. There wasn't any silverware on the table. She gave my husband the bill while 3 of the 4 of us were still eating. The people at the table next to us had straws for their drinks whereas we did not. We normally would spend an hour there and we were out in 30 minutes and the place was not busy yet for a Friday. The only reason I drove out of the way to this place was because we got a tree at B&J Evergreen and part of the deal was getting a free pitcher of beer or pop. We were coming up from the Cities and wanted something to quench our thirst, so we stopped by and asked if we could get a couple of pops to go instead of the pitcher. Three or four waitresses looked like deer in the headlights and looked at the to-go coffee cups and asked someone to go get some lids. So far so good. I went to the restroom and came back and now there is a manager lady or something. In her gruff, rude voice she told me that they just can't do that. They don't offer pitchers to go. You don't think I know that?! All I'm asking for is a couple of pops. Then she told me I could buy a couple cans of pop. I told her no, I've already paid for this, so you could give me a couple cans of pop instead. She continued to refuse and finally I asked her how much a pitcher of pop cost. $4.99 she said (not to mention that beer would have been even more). I said, I can't get a couple pops to go for less than $4.99? I was flabbergasted at this point. I couldn't believe that such a simple request that costs them less money was being handled in such an awful way. Finally she said she'll have to get with someone and went out to talk to some guy (Jack? Jim?) who was plowing the parking lot. I explained the same thing to him, briefly, and he basically stomped back in the restaurant and said, I can't give you a bunch of cups of pop to go. Well no s&*T! Again, I told him all I was asking for was a couple of pops to go so we could battle the roads back. Now with everyone staring, he finally gave us the pops. Well, Jack and Jim, I guess the Minnesota Nice fairy didn't give you her sprinkling of friendly magic dust when she want passing by. You can continue to serve your inbred small-town Duelm patrons most of the year, and good luck getting anyone else with this type of control-freak, penny pinching attitude. Oh, and did I mention that one of your waitresses said the only reason the free pitcher offer existed was the draw people in? Well way to go. I was actually considering giving it a shot next year when we had more time. Well, now you lost my business for years to come and perhaps the business of others who read this review. Jack and Jim's is hands down one of my favorite places to eat. The food, the drinks, and the service never disappoint. There is no better place to go for Sunday brunch, especially on Mother's/Father's Day. I recommended getting the salad bar and french fries with whatever meal you chose. No kidding this was the worst everything ever! We waited forever for service. While waiting for our food we sipped on water and soda that had a really bad city water taste. When our food finally arrived (after the large table that arrived 20 minutes after us were served) it was disappointing. My $20 steak dinner fit onto a child's plate and the steak was still moving. The French fries were not fully cooked. We choked down our meal and my husband spit out a large hard chunk from his burger and waited...again...for our bill. Terrible meal. Terrible service. Terrible prices. We had been to this restaurant twice before and we were let down then as well but thought things might have changed over the last few years. Boy were we wrong.
