Just sat for 45 min in restaurant without even a waiter/waitress to take a drink order although serving tables around us and seeing us. Just finally gave up and left. Went to restaurant 2 min away, which was quite busy, and still managed to be seated and a drink ordered in less than 5 min. Started with potato skins and they were amazing. Definitely on par with Montana's and Jungle Jim's. For our meal my friend and I have the fettuccini Alfredo and it was amazingly delicious. Knocks Boston Pizza's Alfredo out of the water by far. Overall a good bang for your buck! I'll be returning. read more

Food was pretty standard but over priced. The boom is over in Newfoundland time for prices to come down. The server was very new and it showed. He was overwhelmed and not very knowledgeable on the menus. Did not notice any management presence on the floor to assist or support him. Food wait was average but everything else took too long (drinks and bill) we actually had to go to bar to get and settle our bill. At this rate I don't see this place being around long, especially next door to a Marriott where people expect good service. There's an old saying in the resto biz. Came in on a Friday. Their cocktail for the evening was the amaretto sour which was tasty as fuck. Jordan made it for me and did a great job. The food was reasonably priced and tasted great! I had a double order of wings which were a lot like the wings at bigs/don cherries. The potato skins were unlike ones I had had at other restaurants. They had a tangy bbq sauce and Caesar dressing with bacon,cheese and green onion. The decor was also really nice! It had a lounge-y feel to it mixed with a sports bar. There were dark colours and modern looking light shades. Really nice art was hung on the walls around the dining areas, sports jerseys, tv's with Espn on, and neon beer logos around the bar. My waiter could have been a little more attentive to the level of my drink, and probably should have brought me some wet naps with my wings right off the bat, but he seemed new so I'll excuse that. The rest of the staff were also attentive to my table. All in all, a good spot for a pretty affordable date night, but also a good spot to catch some drinks with your buddies. Food is good Service is excellence But the management just SUCK they are un respectful to their customer and staff. Believe it or not they decided that no tips will be included into a credit card transaction. Well, I travel for business with a cie card so if you are a business person you will have to pay the tips from your own pocket... and try to be reimbursed!!!! Have gone to Merlo's on a few separate occasions and I've NEVER experienced good service. The food is fairly good, however, it's nothing you can't get elsewhere with better service. My most recent visit we were waiting over 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and that was only after we went to the bar to let them know that we needed drinks. Once we put in our order it was a further 30 minute wait for out apps. Once we finally received our meals the waitress did not come back to check on us and we were waiting over 20 minutes once we finished our meal for them to come remove the plates.. and that was again after we had to stop someone ourselves passing by our table. One of the worst restaurants in terms of service by far...will not be returning. read more

Will never go back here to eat. Management does not offer an option to when paying by debt to tip. Instead management put in a ATM where customers have to pay $3 service charge to withdraw cash to leave the services staff a tip. This is totally unacceptable. Nice restaurant with average food and a little expensive for what you get. Kitchen does not pay attention to the orders coming in and does not for fill the customers request. This place has the potential to be excellent but management has to improve the menu and kitchen staff has to listen to the customer. First & only time I will go to this restaurant. Our meals didn't come out at the same time & by the time I got mine my husband was finished his. It was cold when it did come out & the manager took off the price of my entree but was by no means apologetic. You cannot tip your server on the debit/credit system only with cash & who carries cash anymore? Worst place we have went to eat since we arrived on July 19th! It was a good 20 minutes after our drinks were empty, and water glasses were empty by the time our food arrived. I had a reservation made at Merlos Inferno today for my sons first birthday (to clarify .. we go out every Thursday and this particular Thursday happened to fall on his birthday, not a party of any sort just one of our regular outings as a group). The reservation was made for 16, only 9 showed due to baby illness that morning and babies that were late napping and couldn't show. We had half babies and half moms and I expressed this when I made the original call to reserve a table. Obviously they are BABIES (all under a year old with one toddler) so therefore they made some mess. We tried to pick up some pieces off the floor, but of course can't do everything. The babies weren't disruptive and were kept in their high chairs. 4 hours after leaving the restaurant, I get a phone call from a "manager" Brenda, who tells me that it was inappropriate to make a reservation and only half show to which I replied and said that some babies got sick right before the reservation and the other napped late and that I made to reservation as a consideration for them to prepare instead of just showing up but that I also can't help things like that and apologized. She then proceeded to lecture me over the phone about the mess our babies left which I replied that they are BABIES and that happens. She said as mothers it's our responsibility to clean up after babies and that they shouldn't "run the place". I said that we tried to pick up what we could and that we can't possibly clean up everything with a few napkins. I told her she wouldn't get our business again and she said "that's fine". Apparently the servers complained that people with kids come in all the time and leave the place in a mess. I have been a mom for 3.5 years, and have been to many different restaurants (many with our playgroup) and have NEVER felt like this! This restaurant is a disgrace to people with kids and will never get my business again. She claims they are baby friendly, but her phone call was rude and degrading. Even went as far as mentioning a specific item we gave our kids from the buffet and that it was inappropriate (chicken legs) and encourages we bring in our own food. Meanwhile, we ordered deserts and were waiting foreverrrr , which was when our babies started getting restless and it was to the point we cancelled the desert because of the wait. We wanted to removed the babies so they wouldn't interrupt anyone's lunch. She also started talking about a past reservation about a group of moms that made a large reservation and only a few showed , which I said that wasn't us and you can't group everyone into one and this was our first reservation. Things happen. We're moms with small babies! We have a moms group with our babies and go to a lot of restaurants and have never once felt like our kids weren't wanted or unwelcome until today. It was handled so unprofessionally. When we called back to express how upset we were by this call, a friend proceeded to say that this would end up on social media and she responded with "that's ok, I can write on social media too about moms that need to be more responsible and respectful". And also said she was a mom and a grand mom and never seen kids make a mess like this nor would she let them! This my friends, is such a lack of professionalism. Visited Friday. Was extremely disappointed to see that the only option to tip is with cash, even if you pay by debit or credit. This is a huge inconvenience., and the serving staff will lose out in the end. I do not want to use an ATM to get cash out to tip. This is probably my tenth time coming here and the quality of food and level of service has been a steady decline despite prices increasing. This time I ordered a pasta dish, which was more expensive than before yet they removed the garlic bread that comes with it. I paid extra to add chicken and had 6 thin quarter sized pieces in the entire dish. Very disappointing. It took approximately 40 mins for our order to be taken and we continuously had to ask for beverage top-ups despite there only bending 6-7 tables in the whole restaurant. Great place to eat. Great overall atmosphere with open concept dining. Service is excellent with average wait times for your food. Very clean, well maintained dining area. The food is very exceptional with great flavours and their caesar salad is amazing. The complimentary loaf of bread you are given upon placing your order also tastes very good and goes very well with the cinnamon butter it comes with. I don't know who is writing these positive reviews, but they must be friends with the owners!! This place is TERRIBLE. Service, food, and atmosphere. Cranky unsmiling staff, dirty menus and condiment bottles, food is so slow coming out and average at best when it finally does arrive. Don't try the burger. Sandwiches are ok. I've heard some people say good things about the chicken and ribs but mine were dry dry dry. I've been here several times but no of my own accord (mostly for work) I have talked to several people who have had run for ins with the owner who is very rude and unaccommodating when issues arise. No offer to try an fix any problems because he claims he isn't in the business of giving away free stuff. Very much a "too bad so sad" attitude. I doubt this place will be open much longer. I came to Merlo's on Mother's Day with my wife and kids. A little busy so maybe waited a little longer than we would like but it was awesome. My burger was the signature Merlo's sizzling inferno burger - it was divine. They have some staple dishes they have had for years but Press and Bean have really upped their game with the burgers. I have been to this restaurant 3 times. Once, late evening with my wife after a movie, once with coworkers for lunch, and again last Friday with my wife for supper. First time everything was great. Second time, lunch time, it took an hour and a half to get served, and orders were screwed up. No apology from staff. Third time last week when staff member seated us, he walked ahead of us and turned to see if we were behind him, he knocked twice on our table and continued walking. We sat down and looked at menus for 25 minutes. Nobody came to see what we wanted to drink, or take our order. When we left, my wife informed the staff member greeting guests, and she never even offered to get somebody to discus this. We will not be returning again. read more
