Jacks French Toast
Savannah H.

We were in town for the weekend. We decided to go to brunch with our friends who are local to Charlotte. They said they go to Jack Beagles every Sunday. We decided to join them. This place is simple. They have paper menus. They have a small dining area. They have basic options for food. I got the French toast. It was simple as it gets French toast. I asked for bacon, extra crispy. My friend who lives in Charlotte gets her bacon that way too. So thankfully, the bacon came out how I like it. That was satisfying. They have regular coffee. No flavored coffee here. No flavored creamers even. I doubt they even do iced coffee. This place is simple. That's the best way to put it. If you want brunch without all the extra frills, come here.

I don't know why this place only has 3 stars? It's our 1st time visiting this location, and definitely won't be our last! This place has a large bar area but only 6 inside tables so it's fairly small inside. Great crowd of friendly people of all ages. Local bar feels. Karaoke on Thursday which was a blast to watch everyone sing as I'm not that daring! The bartender was very nice, friendly and attentive. She was on top replacing our drinks once they were empty and asking if we were ok often. We had the Fried Chicken Skins, which we were pleasantly surprised to see on the menu as they are very rare to find. They came with cheese dip Which I thought was weird but surprisingly it complimented them very well. The only thing is it's mostly chicken chunks which wasn't even listed on the menu it just said chicken skins. I still loved the mixture just should be listed on the menu like that. We asked for a side of ranch to also dip them in and their ranch is "the good ranch" We also had the Stadium Mac n Cheese. I loved it it was very creamy as I do love creamy homemade Mac n cheese! Lots of flavor with a few diced hotdog pieces which could have used a little more of! Their hotdogs are 100% ALL BEEF! I highly recommend and can't wait to go back and try more items from their menu!

The shuffle board needs some sand but the beer is cold and the service is great. The bar was packed but great service!

Raw meat

I should've canceled the order whenever they stopped the lady from mopping the floor to make my food. Ordered medium rare gunslinger and sweet potato fries. The fries were great. The burger was completely raw and cold on the inside, as well as covered in hummus instead of chipotle. the location on North Davidson in Charlotte has always been a favorite but as Mount Holly The brewery across the street is the correct choice. They have a great menu, as well as a kitchen staff.

Beagle Breakfast with scrambled eggs with cheddar, crispy bacon, grits, and biscuit - a definite repeat!

My husband and I visited JackBeagle's one Saturday morning when we were in Mt. Holly for a craft show. We arrived right when they opened, and they became quite crowded shortly after, so we took this as a good sign of them having a great breakfast. I tried the Beagle Breakfast, and my husband had the Beagle Bowl. I asked for my eggs scrambled with cheddar, and requested crispy bacon, grits, and a biscuit. The eggs were cooked almost omelet-style, and that was just fine with me. They had plenty of cheddar, too. My bacon couldn't have been any better - it was thick and very crispy, just like I like it. The grits were creamy and delicious with a little added butter. The biscuit was large and soft, and my husband enjoyed it with butter and jelly. His Beagle Bowl was loaded with potatoes, peppers, and onions. He added gravy, and their version is spicy and delicious. While one of his over-medium eggs had broken of the griddle, he said it was delicious regardless, especially with the yummy gravy. The second egg was perfectly over-medium. I can't forget to mention their coffee. It was hot and strong, just like we like it. Our server was friendly and helpful, and always there when we needed her. Their breakfast prices are very reasonable, and we enjoyed our meal very much. We'll definitely be back when we are in the area!

sat down at the bar because it's just me and life usually just works better this way when it's not slammed which it wasn't; instead there's steady flow in and out which was kinda better for me. anyway it's a good sign when the barkeep makes you smile before getting your drink: a little sassy but not lippy and when she talks the southern comes out so thick and drippy that I almost asked for sweet tea when she told me there's no draft ciders... I think this is the smallest of the beagles which is odd to see in print because, well, you know... legendary giant beagles and all that. but there it is: maybe a dozen tables and booths down the one wall and bar down the other, guessing a door on the other end across from the cookery and there's a corral full of tables bolted to the pavement just outside. I'm not sure if they're from here but you can get there from here. got a hotdog looking way fancier than I thought I'd asked for plus some fries in a side basket. but really, look at that thing, there's mustard, onions, relish, tomatoe, peppers, and chili on a cultured and substantial weiner. I'm not about gonna slaw these things but some folks do... fries is waffley and pretty standard in the best possible way and pairs well with the fruity sour ale. if I had a whirler this would spin it...

Cheesesteak. Missing a lot of goodness.

I had high hopes for this location, as it's now closer than the rest for us, but it just missed the mark on many fronts. For starters, the service was slow, like painfully slow, even when getting the check/paying. Additionally the server dropped our card and found it on the sidewalk (we were eating outside), but that was a little scary. I will also say, the place has multiple empty tables inside and out and I had counted at least 5 servers (not including the bartender), so it didn't seem as if they were short staffed or in the weeds. The cheesesteak I ordered seemed to only have have the meat/portion it should have. It was delicious, but I was still hungry afterwards. Their morehead and Noda locations really pile it on and you get a full sandwich. I was just surprised at the lack of meat goodness inside, especially when the picture on the menu boasts an epic cheesesteak. I also got the black and bleu Mac, and again, it just wasn't the same caliber. It was a little gritty and kind of curdled, and just seemed to be overcooked. It was the creamy decadent texture I was used to finding at Jackbeagles. I think next time I have a Mac and cheese craving, I'll still with their other locations rather than here. Closer doesn't always mean better.

Bloody Mary

I really like this place, 2nd time I've come. Decent seating inside plus bar seating and also outdoor seating as well. Sundays they have $3 mimosas and Bloody Mary which were both outstanding. NFL games on 4 tvs and their menu is perfect for sports watching. Ordered wings and they were good. Saw some burgers, etc and everything looked appetizing! Small beer selection but not hard to find something!

Yum!

Food is good. Lunch service hit or miss. One server that works lunch isn't very attentive even if it's slow. She disappears and just doesn't check- in at all. This is our third time with her.

I think our server was Caitlin. She is fantastic! This was our first time at Jack Beagle's, and it was a pretty good experience. It was a late lunch/early dinner time, we could sit anywhere and they had a nice size crowd. I don't know how I felt about a child sitting at the bar, but that's not my business. The burgers were great and the pickle spear made me happy! I want to get burgers from here every time I get one. The waffle fries are very good and they were freshly made. I have to say, that the macaroni and cheese is not that tasty. I should've taken it home and doctored it up, but I did not. The Cajun wings were a little salty. They are a dry rub wing, not sauced. The heavy hot wings are good.

Man, I bet when Covid isn't a thing this place is CROWDED! We visited this afternoon at about 2pm and the bar was nearly full! Seems like this is a great neighborhood bar who also happens to have really delicious casual fare! I'd heard in one of my FB groups that the macaroni and cheese is awesome, so even though we all got sandwiches, I ordered a side of Mac and Cheese for the table. We also ordered an order of homemade potato chips because the sandwiches don't come with sides. Both were delicious! The macaroni and cheese might be described as dry to some, but that is exactly how I like it. I don't like a "goopy" mac and cheese. We ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich, a patty melt and a Philly Cheesesteak. I opted for White American cheese. REALLY great sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the 3 of us got out of there for under $50. Very good value! Service was incredible, we lacked for nothing! Try this place if you love casual atmospheres and having a drink in a place with loads of televisions. During the warmer months, enjoy their outdoor seating area in adorable downtown Mt. Holly.

Side salad with Italian dressing. They really packed it in there!

Tables were decorated, though probably by the Reunion committee. There was a drink bar set up with coffee, tea, and water. Again, probably set by committee. Next door was a bar area and this particular Saturday an Antique & miscellaneous tables were set up for sales. Since it was October, the place was all decorated up for Halloween. Menu was quite varied but we shared because we wanted more time to visit. We shared a salad and a burger. Mixed drinks and soft drinks were available at the bar. Prices were reasonable.

They were literally telling people when seating them to pretty much go easy on their first round because there were over 100 people that needed to eat. People were assured after everyone went through it would be restocked. So that's what we did, and pretty much nothing was restocked. Had one rather small plate of food and left hungry. It was a joke. Not saying this place isn't great to grab a bite to eat or a few beers on a normal day, but for an Easter buffet they failed miserably. It was an annoying bust! I was under the impression this was the first year they did this so I wasn't going to leave a bad review. I figured they had some bugs to iron out- that assumption was incorrect. This was not the first year and based on that there is no excuse for how this was handled. If they do this again next year I wouldn't even consider going back. For $20 you would think it would be impossible to get ripped off, well think again!

I'd been here once before late night in the taproom with the smaller bar menu. That experience was fine. Not amazing, not bad--decent food, decent drinks, decent service. Very low-key and very different from this visit. So when we were nearby again before heading out to see Christmas lights, it felt like an easy, familiar option. Unfortunately, this time was a completely different story. Service was extremely slow from the start. It took nearly 30 minutes just to get drinks and an appetizer, and water refills were basically nonexistent. I eventually got up and refilled our water myself while watching the server refill other tables. We were there for almost 2.5 hours, which felt excessive given the pace and crowd level. Food was all over the place. Three meals had to be sent back. My BLT showed up with maybe two strips of limp bacon, soggy toast, wilted lettuce, and red peppers instead of the onions I asked for. Rather than remaking it, they just brought out two more equally limp strips of bacon. Two burgers ordered medium/medium-rare came out well done--even though the menu clearly shows doneness levels with photos, which made that miss even more confusing. On the bright side, the potato soup was excellent--probably the best thing we had--but it arrived lukewarm after a long wait. Other dishes like the scallops, Cajun Alfredo, and chicken sandwich were genuinely good, which just added to the confusion. A manager did drop off food and briefly acknowledge the issues, but there was no real apology or follow-up. I don't expect comps, but with this many problems and slow service, the lack of accountability was noticeable. Used plates from appetizers and sides that were clearly finished sat on the table for most of the meal. When dishes were cleared, the server often asked people who were still actively eating rather than removing the empty or stacked plates that were ready to go, which only added to the overall lack of attention and awareness. Between the inconsistent food, very slow service, and an overall lack of attention to detail, this visit just didn't work. It seems like one of those places where you might get a great meal--or you might spend hours wondering what went wrong. For now, it's firmly in the meh, proceed with caution category for me.

We wanted to have a little more leisurely time there, maybe try a dessert, but we had to be at an event, so there was a time constraint. Overall, this is a great spot in downtown Belmont. We started with the pimento cheese fries, which were easily the highlight of the meal. They were flavorful, well-prepared, and set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The service was noticeably slow, and our food took quite a while to arrive. I ordered the fried chicken, and it was significantly overcooked. The chicken was dry, and the breading was so dark it was just shy of being burnt. The mashed potatoes on the side were good, but they couldn't make up for the quality of the main dish. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak with roasted carrots. The steak itself was quite good, but the carrots never arrived with the meal. They were brought out long after we had finished eating, which made them feel like an afterthought. For dessert, my wife chose the peach cobbler. It appeared to be served with ice cream, but by the time it reached the table, the ice cream had completely melted. The dessert looked more like peach cobbler floating in a bowl of melted ice cream than a properly plated dessert. Whether it sat too long before being served or was prepared incorrectly, it was not particularly appealing. The one bright spot throughout the evening was our server. He was attentive, checked on us regularly, and kept our drinks refilled. Unfortunately, good service alone wasn't enough to overcome the slow pace and disappointing food quality. Based on this visit, the overall dining experience was subpar. Aside from the pimento cheese fries and a few individual items, the meal did not live up to expectations.
