Bolton never misses. It's only got busier. We came in on a Tuesday at 5:30pm and it was packed. We ended up waiting 10 minutes to get a table but well worth it. Their burger was amazing like always but we found a new gem in the menu that we love. My wife had the chili and she is hooked. Was a great combo of meat, beans, cheese and a little heat. Bolton's Curbside Cookery Restaurant Review I took the scenic route from Charlotte to Mount Holly for one reason: the smashburger I've been seeing in my dreams and on my feed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bolton's opens at 11am sharp, and by 11:38am this place was already shoulder-to-shoulder with hungry humans.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Either I'm onto something or half of Gaston County had the same idea. Judging by the line that never let up while I was there, they're clearly doing something right... besides putting a giant Sasquatch in their front window (yes, that's a thing...wearing a flamingo floatie and everything). Parking was a breeze this time, but I can imagine things get dicey when the whole neighborhood catches a whiff of sizzling beef and fryer oil. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, the vibe is part industrial bar, part diner, part Bigfoot's vacation home. You've got string lights draped across the ceiling, exposed brick in the shape of continents, and a chalkboard leaderboard for burger champions.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a full bar with 16 beers on tap, glowing blue flames under the liquor shelf, and plenty of TVs broadcasting UFC and food menus in equal measure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I kept it simple with The Original Smashburger: beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and Duke's Mayo (as God intended). The beef had the signature lacy edges that smashburger lovers live for, with a perfect crust and melt. Could've used a little more salt, and the potato bun, while soft and squishy, wasn't toasted and struggled to keep up with the juicy patty. Still, it did its job. Now, if you've ever looked at a normal burger and thought "This is cute, but I'd like 12 more of these," let me introduce you to the Bolton Burger Challenge: 13 patties, at least 3 toppings, 1 lb of fries, 30 minutes. Finish it, and your name goes on the chalkboard. Beat the record, and you get to name the burger. (I'd call mine "Please Don't Resuscitate Me.") Because I don't hate myself, I also got a couple of chicken tenders, absolutely massive, like someone deep-fried a chicken breast and said "close enough." Crispy, juicy, and seasoned like the fryer staff is out here with Michelin stars. I got Buffalo and BBQ sauces they are both solid, with a 50-cent charge if you want extras. And of course... crinkle cut fries. You can't serve these without people having strong opinions. Thankfully, these were textbook: crispy, golden, lightly salted, and not a limp one in sight. Lawry's seasoning is an option, but I stuck with the classic. Bonus points for having Cheerwine on tap. If you're from NC, you already know the deal. If you're sweating through this heatwave like I am, you might want to hold off on their award-winning chili or chicken and dumpling soup until it's not surface-of-the-sun weather outside. But when fall hits? I'm coming back with a spoon and zero shame. Will I be back? Absolutely. Next time, I'm repeating those tenders and trying some soup when the temp drops. read more

I've now dined here several times, and we get takeout regularly. Always very kind service, and great food. Burgers are still standout but really enjoy the hot dogs, and the chicken tenders too. Finally got the chance to eat at Bolton's and it did not disappoint! We tried a classic burger, Carolina burger with fries, chicken tenders and the soup of the day- chicken and dumpling. Bolton's new brick and mortar transfer from their food truck has stirred excitement in our little town and rightfully so. The food truck has provided one of the best smash burgers I've ever had! The mushroom switzer. Really amazing. My new go-to. The burgers are juicy with plenty of flavor. The original is the way to start. Then progress to the other styles, which are plenty. The fries are crinkle and crispy with three types, salt and pepper, original or seasoned. We had the seasoned and they were great. I also ordered the onion rings and they are simply the best around. The waiters and counter staff are friendly and helpful. My wife and I took our friends and yes we converted them as well. They are right in the middle of downtown Mount Holly. The service was outstanding , friendly and fast considering how busy it was. Loved the Original smash burger with seasoned fries . The team cares about the quality and the customer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building is too small for a sit down restaurant but they do have dine in seating regardless.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They're also inexplicably closed two days out of the week, which doesn't seem like a recipe for success for a new restaurant. While the burgers aren't bad, they are very greasy, so if you take it to go, it's going to soak through the wrapper and the bun will be soggy with grease. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Eating it immediately is the best option, but as mentioned, the space is too small for that for more than a handful of guests in restaurant simultaneously.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The fries are VERY salty if you get the seasoning: DON'T get the seasoning, just dip them in ranch or ketchup or something. Also, my burger had an egg on it, and they asked how I'd like it cooked. Despite saying I wanted it runny, it was completely cooked through. As far as the price goes... Mount Holly really needed a place where two people can eat burgers for $45. So bravo! The reason I'm writing a review though is not because of any of that though; what spurred this review was the poor customer service. You cannot call an order in ahead of time if you do want it to go, and you can't order online. You have to go in person to order. Fine, a bit Stone Age, but whatever. I had one other errand to run downtown, so when I ordered I asked if they could wait about ten minutes before the kitchen started preparing the order so I could run my errand and it would be fresh when I picked it up. They said the computer sends it back to the kitchen immediately. Okay, fine. I asked if she could just let the kitchen know not to make that order for a few minutes, and was told they won't do it and they'll just make the food anyway. So I guess the kitchen staff aren't great at following directions? Turns out they didn't make the food anyway because I left. If they're not willing to accommodate a pretty simple request, then I'm not willing to give them $40+ for two people to eat an excessively greasy lunch. We went to BrightStar instead, and got burgers of better quality for a much more reasonable price. Maybe Bolton's will get better in time, or they'll go the same way as almostevery other restaurant in this town. read more

We love Boltons! They're delicious and pretty consistent! Everyone is always attentive and friendly. This place used to be a food truck and is now at a location in Mount Holly. The short version is that this is instantly the best place to eat in Mount Holly. I have three kids and my wife that ate dinner so five total and our total bill was $64 and change after I left a 20% tip. We did all drink water. This restaurant is going to do awesome in Mount Holly because of this one fact. I'll start with a negative the only thing that we ate that we didn't think was fantastic. It wasn't bad, but just meh, was the pasta salad. My wife said it was kind of like every other pasta salad. Aside from that, we ate the chicken tenders, which are a full chicken breast btw so 2 is enough for one person. We also ate the burgers, which were.... Just amazing. I always hear people talk about how good burgers are at places and I try them and think "they're not that great." But these really are great, like I don't think there's anything like them in 100 miles...as in, WOW, that burger is Good! The fries were seasoned and tasted fantastic. The onion rings were spot on. The tenders were also incredible. I can't wait to try a hotdog at some point. Just AWESOME food. They had some things on the menu like fries with pimento cheese on top of them and other kinds of things like that, that looked fun. The sides are al a cart. Most are pretty shareable. When you come in, you have to order at the front and then find a seat. They bring you your food out, but you don't have a waiter. I would recommend looking at the menu before you come to make the first part faster. If I could wish one thing different about this restaurant, it would just be that it was bigger. It's such a great restaurant that people are in it all the time. We found a seat pretty quickly on Saturday at lunch about 1245. But it's a lot of tables in one space. It also has a full bar that has seating as well. Would be a great place to have dinner and a drink with friends. So glad this place is in Mount Holly.
