Stopped here once for drinks after work and just came back a second time, their selection is amazing. I had a chance to try their dinner and the fried chicken with kale and mashed potatoes was incredible and juicy. Definitely will come back for that alone when I'm here for business.
I've come here several times for cocktails since they first opened back in 2011. It's an enjoyable experience every time. The employees are well-versed in their liquor options and are always helpful. I'm not a big whiskey drinker but I always feel like I have to try something new while here. They're always patent with me and help me find something I like. Their signature whiskey sour is light and refreshing, and so different from what you get at any other bar. Their other cocktails are also top notch. My husband enjoys their expensive whiskey list. The bar bits have always been good when we've gotten them.
Phenomenal selection and very educated and knowledgeable bartenders. Highly recommend! Make sure you ask Chris, he's well versed and amazing!
Jack Rose is a D.C. institution. It's in Adams Morgan and comes with plenty of seating and an impressive whiskey selection. On top of that, they have lots of cocktail options. For my birthday, my wife got us a small private room on the second floor with our own bar. It was beautiful and more quiet compared to the main space. It was the perfect place to end my birthday weekend.
Night cap after Valentine's dinner Place was packed downstairs, so we went upstairs and found bar seating Downstairs area looked super cool and inviting! Tiny bathrooms There are 2 outdoor patio. The enclosed patio had a fireplace. Warm! Drinks were cool I did not like the Truffle mozarella balls
It's like a whiskey and bourbon library in here. Knowledgeable tenders with an old timey feel. The Mr. Loved it.
Came for the whiskey stayed for the food. I had the pork chop and was absolutely floored. Without question one of the best balanced dished I've had the pleasure to eat. My wife had the steak and the chimichurri was fresh and the Brussels sprouts were incredible sides to an outstanding steak. I never expected a "saloon" to have quality of food to match the whiskey selection. Without question will be here again.
***4 1/2 stars*** I'm an ambivalent skeptic when it comes to karma, etc., but it's hard not to believe the universe had a hand in this one. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I were wandering south from the Adams Morgan neighborhood and she'd been given the assignment of finding one last stop on our day's adventures before heading back to the Airbnb. She saw the name of this establishment from across the street, started squealing Titanic quotes, and of course we came in. We're both big bourbon drinkers, so it was pretty unnerving to find out almost immediately that we'd accidentally picked the bar that literally had the largest selection of whiskey in the Western Hemisphere. There are coincidences and then there are coincidences. When you walk in, it feels like a boozy library - there are bottles of (presumably almost all) whiskey stretching from end to end, ceiling to ceiling. Think that iconic scene from Beauty and the Beast if Belle had been a drinker instead of a reader. It's quite something to take in. The bar was not crowded at all when we got there and we just plopped ourselves down on the nearest chairs and made ourselves comfortable. We respectfully disagreed on this point, but the bartender for me got pretty much top marks across the board. My chum thought she was robotic in her delivery, which WAS true early on, but she warmed up after a while and became much more personable. In her defense (which I immediately came to), she had a lot of information to convey and was very much in command of that knowledge. Because we probably have more refined bourbon palates than the average person at this point (though maybe not in terms of the clientele that comes in here intentionally), she used that in her sales pitch and got us some really impressive drinks. I now have an official bourbon I'm looking for going forward, which somehow wasn't the case before. We'd told her almost immediately that we'd had excellent bourbon at the Ritz a few nights earlier, the Angel's Envy. She not only was familiar with it - I don't think it's obscure - but described the three variations they had here, including the one I emotionally imprinted on, finished in sherry wine barrels, making it pretty fruit forward. It is pretty ridiculous how much money we spent on the Old Fashioned featuring that specific bourbon (I think it was honestly like $65, but it WAS a mini vacation), but it was literally the best one I've ever had. You really could tell how excellent this bourbon was. After we had that, my chum asked for a cheaper variation in the $20 range, and the bartender was immediately able to pivot on that front and gave us some detailed, informed recommendations. Really good, memorable stuff there. Honestly the only area and obvious need for improvement was the food options. These by definition are going to be boozier drinks, so I think you should have an arsenal of legit apps/entrees to sample and keep the night from getting too out of hand. We'd had a very big lunch a few hours earlier so there wasn't a red alarm, blaring need in that regard, but we did get some truffle fries to munch on. Eh. On the soggy side and the truffle seasoning barely saved them. These weren't explicitly referenced on the menu, which is a point worth making (my chum felt confident that with the amount we paid for that Angel's Envy cocktail she could get them to make anything, which turned out to be a pretty fair assessment). So the counter is they weren't prepared to make this at a high level but if that's the case, I just wouldn't make it all. It's going to be difficult for the food to match the bourbon, but it should be a closer race than this. Awesome stop; felt like the powers that be wanted us to get in here at some point.
I stopped by yesterday night with some friends for dinner. We were drawn as one of us is a big whiskey fan. The second we walked in the restaurant we were all impressed- it's a beautiful, cool, sophisticated place and the walls lined with bottles are very impressive. We all loved watching the bartenders slide the ladders around and climb up to the ceiling to get specific bottles. It was a quieter night, but the service was fast and our server was very nice and knowledgeable. Our whiskey loving friend got the house cocktail, a Jack Rose, which was dangerously good. We ordered a variety of dishes, from burgers to the ham and biscuits to a beet salad. The food was fancy and very delicious, but still a good deal for the price. I would love to come back and spend time upstairs, or splash out and take the time to order a tasting flight. Overall we all enjoyed our time at Jack Rose!
My homegirl and I planned to go to DC Imperial for happy hour, but upon arrival we were surprised by locked doors. Since I knew the area, I suggested Jack Rose, best suggestion EVER! We sat at the bar closest to the window for more light as it has a very speak easy feel inside with the bourbons and whiskeys stacked on shelves like books. We were immediately greeted by Pat the bartender. Upon examine the menu, we settled on an old fashioned and a Kentucky 75, the old fashioned was $12 on happy hour and it was one of the best old fashioned's I've had in quite sometime, THANK YOU Pat! We decided to grab a few bites since certain appetizers are 1/2 price on happy hour. We got the calamari and fried mac and cheese, both were delicious.......the mac and cheese were served in balls and an aioli that is to die for the calamari was served with fried peppers, also very yummy After about three rounds I needed a little more to eat so I opted for an impossible smash burger that came with fries for $11 on happy hour I could only eat half, but also very good. I wish I would've gotten more pictures, but we were enjoying ourselves so much. I was pleasantly surprised with our options and the price point. If you are in the area, check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

While I've been here a few times on their rooftop bar, I finally got to experience some of their vintage bourbon & whiskey on the main floor. ~ 3000 bottles of whiskey to choose from, which actually has the largest selection on the western hemisphere. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and made the experience 100 times better - gave us curated recommendations based off our pallet. Definitely worth going for special occasions - wish they still had a cigar area though. read more
I recently visited Jack Rose for a birthday dinner and was blown away by how large the whiskey selection was. FOOD (5/5): I ordered one of the signature cocktails Adonia and a Bison Burger. Adonia was a very good cocktail. The Ardbeg 10yr and baked apple bitters in the drink added some smokiness and fruitiness to the drink and with how it tasted of a hint of cinnamon, I'd say this drink is perfect for the fall and for anyone who'd appreciate a sweet whiskey cocktail. As for the Bison Burger, it was also very good. It packed a bit of a kick from the pickled fresno chiles and was served with a lot of fries. Overall, it was a solid burger. SERVICE (5/5): The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and was able to offer recommendations when asked questions about certain selections of alcohol. The wait staff was very quick to take away finished plates and fill up our glasses of water. AMBIANCE (5/5): Walking into Jack Rose is like walking into a dimly-lit library without the books. Much of the walls near floor to ceiling are lined up with all sorts of whiskey. There was sliding ladder situated behind the bar adding to the aesthetic of the restaurant. read more
Had another good time here to celebrate a friend's birthday! It's definitely on the $$$ to $$$$ range, Love the classy atmosphere, and beautiful display of whiskeys from all of the world. Great presentation of the appetizers, delicious entrées, great selection of whiskey, and attentive services...like always. The only downside about coming to Jack Rose is no parking, just like everywhere else in DC. read more

The ambiance at Jack Rose Dining Saloon is that of an old world library. Only instead of shelves of leather bound books, it's bottles and bottles of Whiskey. I had a bourbon-loving friend visit. I found Jack Rose via Google, where it boasts over 2600 different whiskeys. Little did I know that I had found "the Disneyland for bourbon drinkers." Not only did my friend and I have a great time but the staff was knowledgeable and helpful and I learned a ton. My companion the bourbon aficionado asked them to curate a flight of Willet bourbons for him. He was blown away by the flight. He said it was an experience and really liked a bottle he said he would likely never see again. He pointed out the Pappy and the Willet. Our waiter also made me a beginner flight. I now know I am an Irish whiskey person and bourbon is too much for me. I also know scotch whiskey is aged in sherry barrels which gives it the fruity notes. I should add the food was delicious. The fried salt and vinegar Brussels sprouts were amazing. I could eat just them for the next year and be happy. Thanks Jack Rose for making my friends DC Visit amazing !! read more

Great whiskey and great food! The interior of this place is so stunning, it has floor to ceiling built in shelves that are full of whiskey options (on a side note it is so cool to watch the employees use the ladder to climb up and grab a bottle). The whiskey menu is over 50 pages long, if you are overwhelmed with the sheer amount of options (as I was) the servers are amazing at recommending a good one for you to try. I was recommended the Angels Envy, which turned out to be a great whiskey to start with as someone who is not as familiar with it. In addition to the great drinks they have really good classic bar food as well. We ordered the calamari and buffalo wings to start both of which were tasty. For our mains we all ordered the big jack burger. It came with bacon, fried shallots, pimento cheese on a sesame seed bun and fries on the side. This might be my favorite burger in DC! read more

If you're a whisky drinker, this is a place for you! You'll notice you walk into a library. Instead of books, you're surrounded by whisky from all around the world and with all sorts of quality from the low to high end options. The whisky tastings are phenomenal. You can choose curated options. Each whisky is provided with the bottle so you can get a look at the product and you get an in depth explanation from the staff about each whisky you choose. The food is also very delicious. The burger, fries, mac and cheese balls, and brussels sprouts were all flavorful and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend these dishes if you're unsure what to order. Went out for a date night with the girlfriend and decided on Jack Rose, cause who doesn't love whiskey? Started the night with a couple of the specialty hot cocktails, along with the Shishito peppers and chicken skins, which were all great. Now, this review would be five stars, but the original bartender never came back to check on us. Another bartender (Patrick) ended up taking over and taking great care of us. From him we ordered the whiskey flight shown below along with the lamb bolognese which was also very well prepared. From there it's all whiskey tales. Hope to visit again soon read more
We will be back!! Wow, what an experience! The atmosphere is great, it's surrounded by a variety of liquors and it really gives you that old timey saloon feel. There's an upstairs that leads to a rooftop, we will check it out during our next visit. Jeff was an amazing bartender!! Super attentive, super knowledgeable and down to earth. He made sure to keep checking in with us and shelling out the best specials on the menu! Wide selection of whiskey from floor to ceiling! There are hundreds or even thousands bottles, we've never seen some of the bottles online or in any store. Great selection! I've been coming for the past 5 years even in the Dram and Grain era! My whiskey connoisseur hubby loves to try new types of whiskeys. He enjoyed the staff's pick for The Classic Cask 17 year aged bourbon. The cocktails pack a punch! The Allice in Chains whiskey cocktail is very smoky from the Ardbeg Wee Beastie. The blended whisky added to the potency while the sweetness of the honey, lemon, and ginger couldn't mask the bitterness. Definitely not for the faint of heart! After 1 sip, I handed it it over to my hubby while the Goldrush with Bourbon, honey, and lemon was more my style and cup of tea. Note there's a small $2 food and beverage minimum now at bars in DC. Glad we ventured beyond the default fries and paid a bit extra for the fried mac and cheese balls with garlic aioli. The fried Mac & Cheese balls are divine - just as good as I remember them 4 years ago! The garlic aioli is the perfect dipping sauce and elevates the flavor. Even though we had a hearty dinner without any room to spare, I delightfully chowed down 2 mac and cheese balls and so tempted to take home the rest! The restaurant is Covid compliant with tables 6 feet apart and paperless menus that can be easily accessed by a QR code on your phone. I don't know what the bad reviews on here are talking about, unless they are talking about the food, which I didn't eat, so I can't comment. Also, it would help if I read the bad reviews so I knew what they said before opening my mouth. Anyway, I liked it here. Stopped in because I wanted a whiskey flight and it was in the neighborhood of where we were planning on having dinner. It was hot, and we had been walking around all day, and who doesn't love whiskey on a hot day? We stepped in and checked out their saloon and bottle shop first. There wasn't a soul in the saloon, making me think maybe it was closed. However, the selection in the saloon is impressive. Bar to ceiling walls stocked with hundreds of bottles. Wouldn't even know where to begin. Their bottle shop is small but has a bunch of labels I had never seen elsewhere. Decided to head up to the terrace for a drink, and the terrace is great...on a cool day. This is my first and only complaint - it may not normally get as hot as it did that day where the heat index was around 109 - but it does get hot in DC in the summer, and the only fans were at the far end of the room. Nothing over the bar or anything cooling the place down other then the shade of the terrace overhang. Everyone was sweating themselves dead. Some more fans scattered around the place would have helped immensely, and some misting. So, 1 star down because it was uncomfortable AF. However, our bartender whose name I wish I could remember, and their whiskey expert were fantastic (what do you call a whiskey expert? A whiskey sommelier?). They were friendly and knowledgeable and very interesting to talk to. I went with their Jack Rose whiskey flight - the Hughes Belle of Bedford 114 proof rye, a Revival madeira barrel bourbon and a New Riff single barrel bourbon. Normally not a rye fan, and this one was absolutely a kick in the throat, but I actually enjoyed it (once my throat stopped burning). However, my favorite was the New Riff. Never heard of it before but it was smooth and pleasant. The did sell bottles in their bottle shop, but I decided I really needed to work on the bourbons I had at home first. Finished off our visit with a dram of District Made single barrel bourbon. I wanted something local and the whiskey somm suggested this one, though he did warn me it was basically just the best one out of a lot of mediocre local whiskeys. He normally wouldn't recommend anything local, but said this was the lone bright spot. Unfortunately, I would dispute whether or not it was a bright spot. I didn't care for it, but I blame myself. He warned me there really weren't any good local distilleries, but I like trying local things so I pushed the issue. Anyway, if you're a whiskey lover then this Jack Rose should definitely be on your list. read more

This was everything I expected and more!!! This is the premier whiskey bar with the largest whiskey collection in the Western Hemisphere, Ajax rose boasts more than 2,700 different bottles from around the world. We had the opportunity to try out some firsts and grab a bottle in the saloon with bardstown bourbonon the saloon floor. We then headed up to the terrace to try out some wonderful Cocktails and Whiskeys prior to the kentuckyderby. So, when your in DC next time and you are whiskey or cocktail connoisseur make sure to get a stop @jackroseindc We tried the biscuits with honey butter and wow they were a nice touch to our tasting. We will definitely be back to try out a full dining experience very soon!! The service was so good that service would be one of the main reasons we would go back to this place. Everything here is out of this world the vibe makes this also a must try for anyone. read more

This glorious establishment has the largest selection of whiskies I have ever seen. They offer distillery and proprietary bottlings from every operating whisky producer and many that no longer exist, and in every price range. These whiskies are displayed on every wall of their huge main hall and offer a relaxed, fun, happy environment focused on exploring the magic of their liquid gold offerings. We took expert guidance from Lead Whisky Advisor Christopher, who is a living encyclopedia of spirits and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Put Jack Rose on your 'must visit' list. read more

I really don't know what took me so long, but I finally made it to Jack Rose!! I love whiskey and bourbon and this place literally has the most amount I've ever seen in my entire life! I'm not even exaggerating. In my mind I had pictured this place to be small so I was surprised at the two level space! They offer flights and they make amazing cocktails! I'm already thinking about my next trip here! One time s not enough! The service and treatment we received was excellent! Kudos! read more

Absolute perfect atmosphere for the end of our date night! We had attended a show at the DAR Constitution Hall and we're out by about 8:30 PM. This was only a short drive north and then the direction of home, so it was a perfect stop! We were visiting on a Sunday evening, so the downstairs inside was closed. But the upstairs balcony was open. We definitely want to enjoy this nice weather while we've got it! There were only two small tables on this outside balcony so it felt very cozy! I eat in a huge meal and wasn't hungry and just came to enjoy the conversation in the club soda. But my husband had come straight from work and was ready to eat. So he enjoyed their bacon and pimento cheese burger along with a flight of bourbon. He said the burger was one of the very best he's had lately. It also came with an extremely generous portion of fries. When he ordered his flight, the waiter asked about what Price range she wanted to stay in, my husband went for about $45. But apparently $35 is about the norm although they can create some thing for less if you prefer. The waiter checked in with the types of bourbon flavors he likes and created a flight for him. When he returned, he talked to us for about 10 minutes solid about each bottle and where it comes from. This guy went above and beyond and was awesome! My husband learned that he definitely prefers the sweeter Bourbons. I don't think the heavy wood flavors made in Japan work quite his style. LOL. But he had such a great time learning more and we were happy to have a relaxing evening! read more

While hanging out in Adams Morgan on a Saturday night, a group of us stopped in here... Many of them had been before, it was my first time. The place was packed, but we were able to find a spot to stand and grab some drinks. Drinks were decently made, bartender was helpful, but the rest of the staff wasn't too helpful, rather more rushed due to the amount of patrons. They have a nice cocktail list and offer a huge selection of whiskey. Prices are fair, for DC that is. The biggest issue were the other patrons, very rude and like to bump people, while is crazy for being such scrawny little geeky people, but I guess being in larger groups empowers them to act this way. Be prepared to have to deal with that if you go on a busy weekend evening. read more

Whisk(e)y lovers nirvana!! Tout over 2600 whiskeys available! Staff was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I had them pick both whiskeys and I was not disappointed! I didn't eat, but the couple next to me had the wings and bone marrow and they said it was excellent! Atmosphere was warm and friendly! Met some nice people from St. Louis that were visiting and a local couple just out for an evening! Will definitely be back next time I'm in DC! read more

Jack Rose Dining Saloon has A LOT of whiskeys. The most in the whole Western Hemisphere to be exact. If you want to become more knowledge and try out some fancy spirits this is the place to come. My fiancé got the Scotch flight and I got one of their cocktails. We had a great time trying the different Scottish's and picking out their distinct flavors. We also got their macaroni balls which were very delicious. The staff here know their stuff and were very helpful. Be prepared to spend a bit of money. Neither their food or drinks are cheap if dining on the main level. read more

Amazing selection. Not a menu, but a book. Bartenders always do the scotch 101 intro. Dropper with sterile water given with each scotch. There is an upstairs bar and a lower level speakeasy with cocktails. Kitchen closes way before the bar. read more

Happened upon the Speakeasy downstairs. Asked them about seating and they brought us downstairs. Place has a massive selection of different whiskeys and even breaks down some whiskeys based on date of bottling. Intimate downstairs area with only 1 bartender. Cocktails they were able to make downstairs, but whiskey and beer was brought from upstairs. A few times when we ordered certain items, they didn't have that option but they would just bring another option. Service in the speakeasy was on the slower side, but definitely still with a visit! Plenty of seating on a Friday night and we were able to get in without a reservation. read more
This place is impressively designed and has great drinks. As soon as you walk in you're met with hundreds upon hundreds of bottles that dual as decor and inventory. I've never been into a bar similar to Jack Roses and I love the low key, sophisticated vibe of this bar. The service is excellent and they have a wide variety of drink choices for reasonable prices. Sometimes it's hard to get a table but we managed to on a Friday night with a party of 7 people. One of my favorite bars in Adams morgan-- go check it out! read more
