I drive by Jack's Woodside Grill all the times but had never dined here. So glad I finally came tonight. Food was very good and service was excellent. Salmon was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a nice, light lemon fragrance. It came with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies and everything was so tasty. I was craving a hamburger and this restaurant came up with good reviews so I decided to try it out. I liked the nice atmosphere, the host was super nice and the place was very clean. Here is what let me down a bit, the clam chowder was very bland, I had to add lot's of pepper. I tried the Laguna Burger and it also was not as flavorful as I hoped. It just needed some seasoning and although the fries were super crispy they were also very greasy. The waiter was absolutely awesome and very helpful. Would I go back here again, probably not as it was a bit out of my way and I was not impressed with the food. This is just my opinion and it could have been an off day for the kitchen. My daughter ordered the chicken Alfredo, and was surprised to find an abundance of diced raw onion on the sauce. She was able to pick it out as she ate, but we won't order that again. To be honest, I feel a little mixed about writing this review because I did get a stomach bug after eating here but service was really good and the food overall is really good and everyone enjoyed their plates so here I am writing this review. They allowed us to split a plate and the only thing that was different that I think might've got me sick was I added the hot sauce which may or may not have gone bad. We asked to be seated in the bar area at a high top table. The restaurant has a great vibe inside. I was craving a tuna melt, and I decided on try the crab melt. They give you a generous amount of crab and it was excellent. My husband decided on the ribeye, which he absolutely loved. Service was fantastic, all of the waitstaff were attentive and incredibly friendly. The staff seemed to be enjoying themselves and greeted their regulars as they came in. It's with a heavy heart that I reduced my review to 3 stars because the dinner was awful. Both the food and the service were horrible. We had a table full of dirty plates when the servers showed up more food and were absolutely clueless as to where to put the plates. So, we, the CUSTOMERS, cleared the table. The food was bad from the chicken wings to the ribs, everything drowned in a nasty sweet sauce. Perhaps the cook (definitely not a chef), should have dinner at Bad to the Bone BBQ and figure out how to cook ribs. I'm sure the ribs they served me were never on the grill. We went to Jack's for Cinco de Mayo/Taco Tuesday. We had been there for breakfast a couple of weeks ago, and their sign advertising $5 margaritas and tacos for Cinco de Mayo caught our attention. We invited a friend who had never been. It was just as good as last visit. Madison, our waitress, was very friendly and knowledgeable. She let us order at a leisurely pace. Eddie, the general manager, was also very polite. When we called, he indicated that we could make reservations, which we did. Matthew, the assistant manager, checked on us several times We had the special strawberry and coconut margaritas. We had an assortment of the street tacos- chicken, steak, shrimp, and salmon. We also had desserts- molten chocolate cake and ice cream. Everything was excellent. I can't wait to come back and try their beef stroganoff. Brian, one of the owners, indicated it was a big hit at Taste of Dana Point and one of their top sellers. Jack's is hands down my favorite breakfast spot. I'm completely obsessed with their eggs Benedict--perfect every single time. It's one of those meals I literally crave. But honestly, what keeps me coming back just as much as the food is the staff. I've definitely walked in there in the worst moods before, and somehow they always manage to turn it around. They're so kind, patient, and genuinely go out of their way to make you feel better--even when I know I'm not being the easiest customer. Best breakfast spot!! I have been here a handful of times with my fiance's family and every single time I have left full and happy! SUMMARY: Very mediocre. Disappointing patio. Poor attention to detail. Server was nice but not great. Kitchen/expo was subpar. Bartender needs to find a new job. Overpriced. Great French fries. It took about 20 minutes to get seated for brunch, and there were only two couples ahead of us. We sat on the patio because we had our pup with us, and thankfully they didn't harass us for having a dog. The server greeted us within about 5 minutes, which is longer than the best practice of 2 minutes. I got the crab melt with a Jack's Bloody Mary, and my girlfriend got the cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce add avocado and bacon with a Bellini. Her Bellini came in a dirty glass with someone else's lipstick on it, and less than a half ounce of peach purée. My Bloody Mary was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like Popov vodka with watery tomato juice and celery salt. That's it. I could not detect any Worcestershire sauce, pepper, horseradish, Tabasco, lemon, or any other flavors. It did come with a big slice of bacon, though, but that was the only good part about it. The food came out in about 20 minutes, so pretty good. The main dishes were warm, and did not seem to have sat under a heat lamp for long, however, my girlfriend's burger was supposed to be without onions, add avocado. It came out with a massive amount of onions and no avocado. Mega fail on the part of expo. The beef patty looked pretty small, but the lettuce and tomato looked very fresh. My crab melt was disappointing. The bread was on the verge of being burnt and was really overly crispy. There was a very very tiny amount of crab on the sandwich, and it was not evenly distributed in the sandwich. It seemed like the sandwich had more tomato than crab. On the plus side, the fries were OUTSTANDING, but the ranch they served was watery and warmer than room temp, making it pretty disgusting. read more
