W O W. I always see the ads in the paper, but finally discovered this dangerously but in a good way campy restaurant (both inside and al fresco seating/bar/gardens/meeting/ceremony bonanza). I have lived in Coachella Valley for nearly (4)years and I am stunned nobody around me has suggested, actually insisted, that I experience the verdant, lush, cavernous and kinda Disney-like s t e a k h o o o o u s e/eats and curio-emporium. I totally got into it. Loved the space, gardens, good food, huge bar and so much to look at. This is a great place to take kids or out-of-town guests. Kids and those with a sense of fun, quickly spot fun girthy pig statuaries that greet you as you drive up to the round-about/drop-off after passing through imposing guard house gates on either side of the driveway off Hwy 111 in Indio that has the look of a gated community/golf-course clubhouse/guardhouse entrance, with ample parking lot you traverse, all a bit curiously sandwiched in the middle of yet more unremarkable stripmall ho-hum retail options (note that only one way in and out of Jackalope). A modest host station is in the large lobby. One can imagine this area is likely packed during peak times, particularly in evening for dinner but we were here for lunch. Gotta love a host that asks questions to determine best area for us to sit (questions include: inside or outside patio, table, booth, elevated booth....or sit at bar?). The inside is HUUUGE and there is a lot to look at when seated. The pig theme continues but I won't spoil the fun elements incorporated into this steakhouse/casual dining/bar (complete with tv's and hang-out niches and seating). We ordered: No alcohol, sorry. Drinks looked good as thet passed by *Quesadilla...YUM, may be one of the most tasty, well plated 'dillas ever **Half-rack of ribs....truly mouth-watering, juicy, slathered in bbq sauce very small scoop of coleslaw (?) ok and paid a bit extra for DELICIOUS Onion Rings *Turkey sandwich...tons-o-turkey, avocado, crispy bacon (+$2) GOOD *Cappucino Mousse...OMG, huge portion/delish *Key Lime Pie......Tart and sooooooooo good Burgers and sandwiches come with intended signature "hand-cut" chips instead of fries. which would probably be incredible hot-n-fresh but we were given been-sittin' around a bit which turned them into just regular chips. Nice try though. There are a lot of sides to choose but the main entrees were really good. Service was satisfactory (gosh we were impressed with the lovely and friendly server, not our waiter, who had the biggest round tray hoisted over her shoulders that she impressively and effortlessly served at least (6) dishes at our table with at least (6) more to serve elsewhere). She also quickly returned with a side-item we forgot to request. I rarely give 5-stars but Jackalope is so obviously someone's creative, fun, and engaging restaurant...not to mention a very expensive one with the intent to create an experience. We found the food realllly good and fairly priced (not cheap). There is so much to see and the food is good that is memorable. Sounds 5-star worthy! read more

Then we waited 10 minutes to be seen...after 10 minutes we asked to be moved outside to the patio. Once on the patio we had better service. I think our server was Bryce and the runner Daniel was awesome as well. Ordered the spinach artichoke dip and it was very odd. Block of cream cheese, spinach on top then cheddar cheese on top. Very odd it wasn't mixed up nor of layered dip. It was good but not great. We ordered the ribs and prime rib dinner. Ribs were good, but the prime rib was way under cooked! Ordered medium and it was a big gooey pink/red mushy slab of meat. Not good and very small portion of mashed potatoes! The truffle fries were the best! The setting is the highlight of this spot! Came here for lunch with the office where we sit outside and most of us ordered off the sandwich area of the menu. Great service and attentiveness not only to our drinks but meals. I had the tri-tip with the sweet potato fries and it was pretty good. I've had better tri-tip and I've had better sweet potato fries but not by much. The great weather, setting and quality adds to the quaint and eclectic design of the restaurant. We are locals and have come here probably close to 100 times. The outdoor patio is absolutely incredible--a work of art (literally, with beautiful sculptures placed throughout the various water feature areas) which also creates a very comfortable and serene atmosphere. The rock waterfalls are as beautiful as they are relaxing. I always say that I wish this was my back yard! The drinks are delicious--the house margarita is one of the best we've ever had. They make their own margarita mix from scratch and let it age for several days before serving it, so that the flavors have time to meld together. A word of caution, though--they are quite strong! The food is excellent. Favorites of ours are the nachos (enough for two people) and the sliders. The barbecue is delicious (we've even purchased a bottle of their proprietary sauce to take home), the salads are fresh and of good portion sizes. We have NEVER been disappointed here, so some of the less-than-stellar reviews from other yelpers have me perplexed. The service oscillates between great and average, which is fine by me. When you combine good service with the incredible detail and craftsmanship of the restaurant and its surroundings, and then add in the scrumptious food and drinks, you have a winning recipe that keeps us coming back time and time again. But over the last year Jackalope has gone way down in service and food quality. We've had 3 dinner failures in 2017. Our last dinner there in November '17 was a pity. The server was great but our food came out stone cold and when we asked for the manager he offered no excuse and said he would give us a 10% discount. We just wanted our food to be hot!! Obviously, millions was spent to replicate American craftsmanship with an appreciation of a majestic wilderness lodge. Therefore, it would only seem fitting to anticipate the food to be equal or superior to the architecture of the building. Unfortunately, the food failed to represent itself which hindered the experience. The allure of the restaurant will go so far before patrons recognize the price does not match the quality of the meal. Starters were mixed greens and shrimp & sweet corn chowder. Soup was delicious and salads were predictable. For the entrees we ordered baby back pork ribs and signature cut 12 oz. prime rib. The prime rib was ordered medium-rare but I felt there was to much marbling and fat on my prime rib more than ten percent of my cut. The baby back rib was heavily sedated in smoke and if there was a legal limit for smoke cooked ribs this would have been arrested for intoxication! Perhaps, that's why Rib Joints last a legacy and survive by word of mouth because a lot of details is spent on food rather than substance with a far less price tag to boot! read more

We had BIG expectations for the food.......we were a bit disappointed. We could have ordered wrong and would give it another try if we lived in the area. The food was all fine, just nothing special and with all the detail that was put into the décor we just expected more. We had pulled pork sliders, pork ribs & beef brisket. The pulled pork was nice & lean however had a definately sweet sauce which isn't unusual, but this was to sweet for our liking. The pork ribs cooked OK, just not GR8, & with that BIG 'ol smoker they have at the front of the restaurant, again we expected better. The brisket was also fine just nothing to brag about. They offer a wedge salad that could feed four people, so beware you each don't need to order one, nicely presented and was quite good as was the corn chowder was the surprise of the night, DEEELISHHHH! All of it was good, no complaints, and it arrived promptly. Draft beer selections and a full bar were straightforward, and the staff, bartender, and room was ready for our big group when we arrived. The wash rooms were clean and the whole place is filled with fine details, so be sure to wander around and look. Great name is only the beginning! This restaurant was recommended by our valet at an Indian Wells resort. Curious about the name we arrived on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We were happily impressed with the highly polished dark woods and cushioned seating in the large bar. An immense natural rock wall and carved seating gave an authentic Texan flavor along with brass and etched glass dividers between the booths. We arrived at our table out on the patio just past the half circle bar. The lawn reminded me of a great place to have a garden party or let the kids run around. The beautiful natural red rock waterfalls spilled into the pond and showcased the patriotic statuary and family friendly gardens. Now for the menu, I ordered the Watermelon Mojito and it was absolutely huge and delicious. The wedge salad was fresh and crisp and just the right size and I highly recommend the shrimp tacos, while we shared the barbecued ribs which were tender and juicy and fell right off the bone. For our final night in Indio, this Texas trio chose bbq. So let's start with the ambiance. From the minute you drive up you are immediately ensconced in a luxurious atmosphere while not being pretentious. There is water! Ponds and fountains! Something we had not seen anywhere else. So relaxing just walking up to the front door (except the damn smokers gathered in an alcove by the door). The place is huge and casual but beautifully decorated. Not like any barbecue joint you'd find at home, that's for sure. The main event: food. Had never heard of a Coulotte steak so we had to try it. They said it was like a filet mignon. It was thick and cooked to perfection. Not as tender as a filet but just as tasty. The cheeseburger was the best I've eaten in a long time. Chargrilled and tasty and perfect. The truffle fries were good not great- a teeny bit of more truffle oil on top would have helped the flavor quotient. The beef ribs were bountiful. 4 HUGE ribs. Meaty and tasty, but didn't taste grilled, more like basted. The bbq sauce was finger lick'n good and made up for the dubious grilling. It is more than enough to share! As for the sides, the Brussels sprouts were fabulous. Shredded, carmelized with bacon. Even this vegetable hater ate them. The blue cheese wedge was also delicious... big enough to split. Well, it didn't take long for us to abandon our chop house reservation and ask our server, Maria, for an outdoor table. They obliged with no hassle, and we started to digest the menus.....one extensive menu for happy hour and another for dinner. The original house margarita was incredible.....and we're picky! $6.99 but I would've paid double! Our appetizers appeared instantaneously.....calamari steaks and fresh guacamole. My girlfriend reminded me to take it easy.......good call. Then we received our insane main course......and each course magically appeared as we were taking our last bite of the one before. Ribs, chicken, coconut shrimp, tri-tip, muffins, corn bread and honey butter. My god. We were stuffed beyond belief, but the ribs were so incredible that we ordered a rack to go. If you want a very aesthetically pretty place to eat and drink and don't care that the food is probably on a par with (insert very inexpensive chain restaurant here), then by all means, indulge. But do not expect good quality food. The calamari fries did not excite and the 2 sauces were bland and did nothing to enhance the calamari. I also tried a pricey $9 taco from their exotic sounding taco menu and I chose the "Chimichurri chargrilled prime rib steak." From the second I bit into it I knew I was being flimflammed, cheapest cut of steak there is. No flavor and in big chunks that with one bite you had to wrestle the part you bit away from the other part. I guess if it had been tastier steak, the chimichurri dressing might have tasted good. Our group of 10 were outside and service was poor. Probably good waitstaff, but perhaps understaffed. So after a long wait to even be noticed, we wised up and ordered drinks, 2 at a time, and our food at the same time. The wine we ordered (house) we drank it and that's all I will say about it. When we arrived we knew something was wrong with several people turning & leaving after talking to the hostess. We found out the patio on this beautiful day was closed & only a Prime Rib buffet was being served inside. We don't eat Prime Rib & are light eaters, enjoying key things we like on the Jackalope menu. An expensive buffet served inside disappointed so many people upon arrival. We wanted our usual experience!! And waiting to be seated now at the bar is also ridiculous--in the past you could walk in & seat yourself in the bar area. What a disaster! Reservation for nine people, tried to seat us at a 6 top! Then we were moved to a double sized table for twelve. It is so noisy, you couldn't talk to anyone. The appetizers were over-fried. I will say the drinks were good. Service was slow. Then when the food came, they hadn't ordered all the food. One platter missing for ten minutes. The owner asked "How is everything?" To the one person at the table with no food. The server had the nerve to say "the computer only ordered one platter." While they finally opted not to charge for the late food and two desserts, due to lack of service and not enough follow through when an issue was pointed out, I'm being generous with a two-star rating. And yes, it was nine food service and country club people that are in the business. We know service, if you would like good service, I'd have to suggest anywhere else. The kids have a place to run around on the big lawn while the grown ups finish their cocktails and meet-heavy entrées. They also serve an epic Sunday brunch, with a meat buffet, a breakfast buffet, a fruit table and a pastry table, waffles and omelets made to order. This also comes with bottomless mimosas. Even if you aren't a big carnivore, it's still fun to visit the ranch for the awesome decor. The Craftsman style interior is full of interesting art, sculptures and taxidermy. read more

We chose to sit outside in the sun on a lovely 75 degree January day. Service was great. We arrived at 11:30 - first to be seated outside, by 12:15 most tables were seated outside but there were still plenty of tables left. I had the Turkey Cobb Salad, I chose it because the turkey is cooked in house, no processed lunch meats here. It was delicious. My man had the nachos and it was a huge plate with tender Carne Asada. We enjoyed the sound of water and tropical feel. I noticed that the outdoor patio had a LOT of heaters so this would be a comfortable evening setting. There is even an lovely outdoor restroom.
