When we got our ice cream it immediately started melting we tried to get in the car but it was melting and getting sticky so my hands were covered in sticky melted ice cream. We always have a wonderful experience going to this Handel's location -- it is definitely our favorite one in the desert. It's great because the drive thru is an easy option to use to satisfy late night ice cream cravings! The employees are always kind, always get our order right, and always provide fast service. While no one in our household has ever gone to the counter, it seems to appear clean and organized every time we drive by the entrance to get to the pick-up window! Nice place on the corner Jackson and Varner near chipotle and Dave's hot chicken. Seating: 3 outside picnic tables that are covered with umbrellas and three long benches for outside seating. There is no inside seating. Lots and lots of choices but you cannot have a sample... so, I ordered what I thought would be good, and it is very very sweet... So I guess I learned that chocolate peanut butter brownie, and mud pie are very, very sweet. Home made though. Hubby liked his... chocolate chip cookie dough, and salted caramel. It was night when we came and it's very cold outside... But it's still fun and the bites of ice cream that are not infiltrated by fudge monsters and cookie crumbles tasted good. I'll have to try again in the daytime and also order something that doesn't have very many things added... Vanilla Oreo cookie looks pretty yummy from the picture. We love handles but they completely turned to shrinkflation like Mc Donald's and the rest of the fast food chains , you used to get nice scoops but some corporate jerk is having them give you much smaller scoops now so sad I will not play these games to bad that they think we won't notice but me and my family definitely noticed at first we thought it was a new worker so we went back again a week later and it's the same they're scoops are significantly smaller so they are shrinking the portions and charging the same . I can be picky because a lot of ice creams taste like straight sugar or artificial. I got strawberry and chocolate chunk. Strawberry was a winner in my books. Fresh, creamy, not overly sweet. I'M HOOKED! I had not heard of Handels Ice cream previously but when they opened up in Palm Desert, that location was too far to drive to just for ice cream. Well....then the company opened a store less than a mile from my house and I knew if it was good, I'd be in trouble. When I first visited the Indio store, I ordered the sampler which is 4 small scoops of any flavor you'd like. After going back a couple more times and getting the sampler each time, I can say that most of their flavors are hits but there's a few misses, too. My absolute flavor is Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie. It's creamy chocolate ice cream with pieces of chewy brownie pieces and swirls of peanut butter. So good!! Flavors that also hit the spot are Pistachio, Blueberry cheesecake crunch, and several flavors that can be temporary like Cherry Cordial and Carrot Cake. Recently a new flavor had been added, Key Lime Pie, which is slowing becoming a another favorite. It's key lime ice cream with swirls of crispy graham Cracker that stays crispy and doesn't turn to mush. Refreshing and tasty!!! There are a few misses for me though. Their vanilla ice cream and any flavors that use it as a base, needs to be sweeter and more vanilla taste. Also, the chocolate chop cookie dough chunks used in several of their flavors, don't hit the mark. Those items should have the same crispy elements like the graham Cracker does in the key lime pie. The cookie chunks taste like hard clumps of clay with chips in it. Lastly, their website says they have Vegan ice cream but those offerings are basically sorbet and not Vegan ice cream. All in all, however, I'm a huge fan and look forward to more flavors I can get hooked on. read more
