Let's talk about the pizza. The beer? Always amazing -- but that's not exactly breaking news. All due respect to Avalanche here in town, but the pizza at the taproom is the best in Athens. THE BEST. I don't joke about pizza... which is saying something, because I joke at funerals. Perfect wood-fired crust, killer sauce, and just the right balance of "I'm having another slice" and "I regret nothing." My only complaint? No sausage. No Calabrian peppers. Add those and it's game over -- absolute BOSS level. read more

I was in town for two nights and, by my own bad planning, they happened to be the two nights a week that the brewpub is closed. My husband, who was dragged along on this work excursion, swallowed his disappointment and came to the taproom. It's a great space with plenty of seating, including outdoor options on the porch. The bartender was friendly and gave us a tour of the menu as we tried to make our decisions. We stuck around inside, and each ordered two flights -- of course making sure not to duplicate beers so we could taste what the other got. We eventually worked our way through all sixteen beers on tap, ranging from IPAs to bourbon barrel aged stouts. We're big fans of Jackie O's and found several new beers that we liked (which resulted in a major carryout order before leaving town). As much as I love the brewpub (and I do - we ended up there for another flight on Wednesday before leaving town), this has a relaxed vibe and is more beer-forward. It looks like they're expanding - we heard talk of adding some spirits to the menu? - so I'll look forward to checking that out on a future visit. read more

I was in Columbus for an event yes and afterwards we all decided to go somewhere close to have a few drink. Jackie O's was about 6 minutes from the Lincoln theater so we went there. That obviously was a bad choice. The bartender was so rude we ordered one drink and we all left. it was about 20+ of us. I asked him did they have patron margaritas and he told me to look at the menu. I'm like ok who pissed in his Cheerios today. After looking at the menu I still didn't see what I was looking for so I again asked him he they have patron margaritas. He replied with I have what you see behind me. I work really hard daily and we all just enjoyed a great event and those attitudes was not needed at all. We had state legislators and community leaders all with us and we were all upset with the service. Please do better next time. read more

A premium place for many many coffee stouts aged or freshly bottled or on draft. The 2013 BB oil with coffee was my favorite vintage bottle of the day. It was the last one they had so drop $50 with tip and shared it with staff and fellow patrons. The chocolate flight and beer sampler was good but I've had better chocolate if I'm being personally honest. Got about 5 bottles to go that I didn't try on draft all were absolutely amazing. I really regret not getting more bottles to go as in South Carolina my small stash has all but disappeared. Dude working behind the bar let me sample the many IPAS and offered helpful tips in purchasing needs. 5 star brewery ! read more

The taproom is up and running putting out all the great beers you have seen before and some new tastebud teasers. Plenty of options from sours to heavy barrel aged stouts, and everything in between. They clean the tables after each guest and require a mask if your not seated at your table. A small price to pay to keep putting out their great beers. Such a fun taproom, very unique with tons of character. I was really surprised at the number of bottles they had for sale to drink on the premises only! It does make sense as I am sure they would run out of everything if they sold anything to go, but it was wild compared to most breweries I have been to. We split a flight of 5 and liked every beer, would recommend stopping in and trying a few different things on tap. They had food too, but we did not eat in the taproom this weekend. Very walkable to their other locations downtown was a huge plus for us! read more

As a word of caution, their are actually 2 Jackie O's in Athens. There's this one, which is basically a taproom with a food truck in back. Down the road is a more "proper" bar and restaurant. I'm not complaining, as the beer was great and with clever names (my choice was Star Bock). The food (off a limited menu) was really good too. I also enjoyed the community/college town vibe, the dog friendly confines, and some really cool art (much of it for sale). I was in town with 2 work colleagues, as we were coming back from a work-site evaluation in Marietta. And since I wasn't driving, a wee pint for 2 of us was in order. I think our designated driver must have wondered what kind of place she had landed, as she ate her lunch quietly and looked around occasionally. However, for KK and me, this was our kind of place. Well, maybe much more for KK, as she proceeded to chat things up with the locals, including the owner. And it certainly amazed me how much information she reported back in what appeared to be a 5-10 minute conversation. I'm not sure whether I will ever pass this way again. However, if I do, I'll make it a point to slip off the nearby highway, hang out here for awhile, and maybe even try out their restaurant just down the road. read more

Jackie O's is one of the best! Before returning home to Columbus this past weekend, we had to make a visit to the tap room. I love the atmosphere at the tap room and whenever I have gone it isn't overly busy. There is plenty of outdoor seating and they recently expanded the inside as well. There were probably 16-20 beers on tap and a bunch of their bottles that you can buy (either to drink in store or take home) behind the bar as well. Being a lover of Jackie O's, I have had many of their beers but this past weekend there were two in particular that I hadn't heard of, one of which was called Grave. The bartender told me that it was a new bath and only about 3-4 days old so very freshly brewed. It was SO good, definitely very grateful she suggested this. My gf isn't a huge beer fan but gladly stopped in with me and they had a couple guest ciders in cans so she got one of those that she really enjoyed as well. I absolutely love Jackie O's and the tap room is a must stop location anytime I am in or around Athens! read more

My friends had been raving about this place for years (they're both OU grads) so I finally made it in to see for myself....and I'm so glad I did! First of all they have a list of "experimental" craft brews, so if you like trying new things this is a must. I had two very dark brews (also very high alcohol content), and they were both great (although I couldn't tell much different in the flavor between the two). Prices were very reasonable, $8 for a craft beer....much better than what I'm used to paying in Maryland! We didn't have food, but did take a few minutes to check out the vintage arcade game table in the back, where I promptly got my butt handed to me in Space Invaders and Dig Dug, but made up for it with an epic win on Centipede. The inside of the restroom door is covered in stickers, and if you've had a couple of drinks it can be a little disorienting, as it blends in with the wall (at least it did for me and my friend). So keep an ear open for some poor lost drunk trying to find their way out of the bathroom. read more

Jackie O's.. I've always lusted after you. But after the many beers, pastries, and beautiful conversations I fell in love. And I'm not using that lightly.. I mean REAL love. The kind where I'd defend your honor at any cost, fall on a sword for you, and the kind that leaves me feeling guilty if I had beers anywhere else. Emily is one of the best bartenders I've had and I'm always so happy to see her when I come in. Those delicious beers are making my butt spread like rumors but pushing me away from my dream of being a swimsuit model; woe is me. This is where Jackie O's does most of their brewing and all of their canning, and if you're lucky you might run into the brewmaster, who'll chat about beer with you if he's not too busy making it. Even if he's unavailable, this is a great little spot to sip a beer sampler, relax and chat with the friendly workers. It's almost like a winery except with beer, if that makes sense. Overall, this is one of the worst brewery tours we've been on. While we love touring breweries, and we love Jackie O's beer, it is disappointing to receive such poor service. This is some of the best beer I've ever tasted IN. MY. LIFE! I got a flight of every beer I could buy and loved them all. The CSAison Reserve, Polycephaly Two and Hockhocking (2017) were game changers for me (and my beer palate). I wish they had a subscription service, so I could never be without Jackie O's beer. The facility itself was pretty spiffy. I was really into the art all over the place. It was smaller than I expected it to be, but there were very few people inside during our visit. Needless to say, I left with beer for later, beer for friends and a shirt. I can't say enough great things about this brewery and I WILL be back the next time I'm in Ohio. Stopped in here for one reason. The Matriarch triple IPA. I had this last year at Madtree's anniversary celebration and fell in love. It is way high up on my list, and the real reason that we made a trip to Athens on Labor Day Weekend. The place is kind of quaint and has a true Taproom feel. They have been around a lot longer than most of the breweries that I visit in Cincinnati, but they clearly have influenced numerous others with their space and beers. We didn't stay too long, as I just wanted the one beer and then we headed to their other location for food. read more

I prefer the restaurant to this "taproom" thing. Came in on a Sat afternoon. Girl behind bar acted like she was doing us a favor by pouring us beers. Random "brewery" guys standing behind bar talking to regulars but ignoring everyone else. Brewmaster came out for a short stint and how most new brewery people are and was unfriendly. Asked about a tour of the facility we were told "just a bunch of stainless steel..nothing too exciting". I like to chat with other people in the industry but 80% of the people I meet from other breweries are kinda dicks. Beer was good but if i want to drink beers and be ignored Ill buy a sixer and drink it on the porch. Save myself 5.00 a beer. read more

Wonderful atmosphere and service here. My husband enjoyed their beer and the prices. I'm pregnant so I appreciated that they had multiple fun non-alcoholic drink options -- dig their grape soda. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas (inside has free classic arcade games in the back) and everything was very clean. We tried their meat & cheese platter and the spicy nuts and were pleased with both. We will definitely return. read more

Jackie O's is a great place to eat. The food there is really good, and for a good price that will not break a college kid's wallet. A great environment that is really welcoming and warm. This is due greatly to the people working there are great, and serve with a smile, and stay on top of serving people. Also there is a dartboard if you want something to do while you wait for food, or just hanging out with friends. It is great, and I will definitely be going there again. We stopped by here on our visit to Athens and it was really great. We stopped at 2:30 and it turns out that there was a tour of the factory at 3 so of course we had to get in on that. The tour was pretty interesting but it was hard to hear the guy giving it a couple times. I would assume that wouldn't normally be an issue but we stumbled in during Beer Week so that is at least partially on us. We swung into the bar right before the tour and grabbed a beer to nurse while we got the tour so make sure that you do that. Once we were done with the tour we headed back into the bar area and were able to take advantage of the flights. They have little pieces of paper sitting around the bar that have 12 slots. You can fill that in with anywhere from 2-12 beers and they will throw them onto a locally made flight platter and you are good to go. The prices were phenomenal and if you have ever had a Chomolungma then you know that it was great as well. This is definitely worth the stop. The only warning that I have is that you should make sure that you park plenty back off of the street in their parking lot, which is difficult. I can just see someone coming down that alley and you losing a bumper. Overall, we will probably be back and try another flight or 2 so that we can try all of their new flavors. read more
