    Chicken empanada
    Mike L.

The empanadas are a winner. I tried the chicken empanada. It was filled with quality, savory chicken. I dare say it surpasses the venerable Empanada Mama's. The menu is a little difficult to navigate. In addition to the empanada, I got the "El Tipico" plate. Everything was made fresh so I had to wait about 10 minutes for them to fry up the plantains but it was worth it. The setting is like a fast food place since you order at the counter but the quality, service, and prices are more similar to a sit down restaurant.

Went with my coworkers for lunch. I chose Jackies from the great yelp reviews. The restaurant has a nice Latin charm . Jackie greeted us as we entered and she was a very gracious host. The menu has a great selection on Latin delights. I chose the arroz con pollo. My buddies had a chicken dish as well. They remarked that their dish had a Chinese flavor to it and were totally satisfied with their choice. They also had the mango shake which they said was very fresh and tasty. My chicken was great. I highly recommend jackies for lunch or dinner. Jackie was a wonderful host and I will be returning.

Excellent food, great service this is a nice hidden little gem just off James St next to Middletown savings bank. Check there menu. You will not be disappointed. The servings are huge you will definitely be taking some home. It has a nice atmosphere quiet place for food and conversation. You will be recommending this place to all your friends and will be back. Five stars for sure.

I ordered the shrimp mofongo. Wow, delicious and fresh and I got a lot of shrimp. I think this is the best Latin food in town!

The meal started with a fresh, crispy salad, a good start to a delicious meal. My daughter and I had been craving Platanos Maduros (fried sweet plantain) for some time, so we had a plate of them for the table. Yum. I asked for a recommendation and our sweet and lovely waitress, Mary (I hope I spelled it right...I didn't ask how to spell it) suggested a Bandeja including Bistec (fried beef steak), chicharon (fried pork ribs), fried egg and chorizo (sausage) with rice and beans. My husband had a chicken dish and my daughter tried the Lomo Saltado (peppers and onions with beef strips and French fries). Sabroso! Everything that we had was of generous helping ...enough that we were able to get another entire meal each with our leftovers! We 3 people had 4 courses for under $60. Then, for dessert (it was my birthday), they brought a caramelized banana with ice cream and syrup and the whole staff came out and sang for me! The service was perfect, everyone so friendly --nd the atmosphere was pleasing...Simple, clean décor with a charming tin ceiling and exposed brick walls. I highly recommend Compas to anyone who is looking for a bit of Latin American cuisine at reasonable prices. We felt welcome and that we'd had a terrific meal at a bargain. UPDATE: I had the mixed seafood soup on a return visit and it is HEAVENLY! Not too salty, not loaded with flour or potato like so many soups which are too carby for me... The soup here is the perfect blend of whatever they put in there and TONS of luscious seafood. I took the second half home and had a delicious second meal of it. YUM!!! Order this soup! As my dining companion noted--It's worth the trip to Middletown just for this soup!

My 2 star rating is based more so on the service than the food. I have had better of both! I will…read morenot be returning here.

After reading the reviews on Yelp and Google, it was clear this place was something special. About a 20-minute drive later, we arrived at Ingrid's Chicharrones, and we were immediately welcomed by Ingrid herself, which made us feel right at home. The space is small and simple, but don't let that fool you, the food and hospitality more than make up for it. Ingrid truly lives up to her reputation as a one-woman powerhouse. She runs the place with care and efficiency, and it shows in the quality of the food. Everything came out fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the mofongo with pork belly, and it was outstanding, so good I was already craving more after finishing it. A quick tip: half a pound of pork belly sounds like a lot, but it's not, so if you really want to enjoy it, go for the full pound. No regrets. One small downside: the place was very cold during our visit. They do have portable heaters, but it was still noticeably chilly. That said, it didn't take away from the overall experience. This is the kind of place you remember and look forward to returning to. Every time I visit my daughter from Atlanta, GA, this will be a must-stop. If you're looking for authentic Dominican food made with care and heart, this place delivers.
