Just moved to the area and was told by my contractor that they had Saturday night salsa. I went a few weeks ago and I had the salmon salad. We really wanted to try this place because we love Puerto Rican food and there's not many options in the area. The dining area was clean, neat and very classy. Waiter was nice, wasn't sure of menu items (ingredients and how to explain them in the dishes) and so we just went off the menu. We got 4 empanadas (2 chicken and 2 beef - they were good), 3 shrimp mofongos, and 1 chicken chunks with rice and pigeon peas. The price for the mofongo was high but we were like we love this dish so we need to try it. We get a medium sized mound of plantains with the shrimp already inside of it. That's fine BUT with the parts of the shrimp already mashed into it, I didn't even have 3 full compete shrimp, inside or in the side. The sauce that came with it, was oily, thick and not flavorful. The price was too high for the quality and food we got, or lack there of. Not even a side salad or anything to go with it. I left my mofongo because it was too dry and the overpowering of garlic, was too much. The other 2 with my same dish, expressed the same things as me. The chicken chunks dish, he couldn't finish them because they lacked flavor and because the coating looked burnt. However the chicken was tender but had no flavor at all. Went here as we were in the area and had heard good things about it from friends. We did not have a reservation and arrived just in time on a Saturday night at around 5:00 as it started to get crowded. We ordered the beef empanadas as an appetizer and hubby ordered two pasteles - both were very good - the empanadas were a little small. I had the shrimp mofongo and it was very good - the mofongo was not dry and it had a pretty good amount of shrimp in it. We ordered a plate of platano maduro to share and they were divine. We also shared some arroz con gondules and some white rice and red beans - both were also very good. We both had flan for dessert and it was very good. We only give it four stars because they did not have cola champagne nor did they have bustelo coffee (our waitress had never heard of either) and the prices were a bit high - one pastele was $12? It was okay, but flavorless. The fish was supposed to be grilled but for me the fish was a little too soft, if that makes any sense, so I doubt it was. My hubs had shrimp in garlic sauce, he said it was okay but again missing something. It was a Saturday night so there was a DJ & on brand of the restaurant, he was okay also. He played Latin music & some r&b mostly from the 90s - his transitions needed some help. There were times the crowd was not engaged at all. Overall, don't think I will return. I'm declaring Coquito my new favorite find for 2024! I visited the restaurant for an early dinner on a Saturday, thankfully, it wasn't packed when I arrived. My mom and I were seated immediately and the bartender took care of us for the entirety of our visit; the service was wonderful. The restaurant has plenty of seating but also offers an intimate space with nice décor. We started off with cocktails and we were super happy with the ratios, I cannot recommend the cucumber mint martini enough. The menu has plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian options for me, so I was thrilled to get to try out their yucca fries and asopao de vegetales. First, the yucca fries were crisp, flavorful, and accompanied by a perfect sauce. My asopao arrived to the table and I almost fell out of my chair from the delicious aroma wafting off of the dish. I was totally surprised that I loved the food as much as I did, my only complaint is that I live too far to visit more. read more

Enjoying a weekend in the area and was excited to see a Puerto Rican restaurant. Went with a group of friends. Our food took almost an hour to be served. We had different dishes, the asopao, chicharrón de pollo, pernil, pincho de cerdo, and mofongo. We all found the flavor lacking. None of the dishes had the richness and savory characteristics of Caribbean Latino cuisine. While the employees were friendly, the service was so-so. One of us didn't get our full meal served and ate the protein before the maduros came out. If you are not someone who regularly eats this type of cuisine, you might find this place to be ok. Came here over the July 4th weekend on a Friday early dinner. Was quite & not many diners. Clean & nice ambiance upon walking in, our server was very friendly. Ordered a glass of house white wine which had a bad odor for some odd reason, server took it back & I ordered a glass of white sangria instead which was fine. Husband ordered a Manhattan & that was fine. Ordered Mahi Mahi dish & Coquito Pork. Both were a little overcooked in our opinion & the Mahi Mahi dish was a bit lacking in flavor. From appetizer to main dishes to desert it was delicious. But the Skirt Steak we had was the best EVER! The marinade, char and smoke was delicious. They are swamped and can not keep up! The food is pretty good..... for gringos. The tostones were not PR style. They were reheated. Yes tostones are a tough commodity to make but fry them one and cut diagonally with an aggressive smash the second fry does the trick. These were MONGO! (Rubbery). My Asopao de Langasto ( soupy stew with lobster) was ok. But more soup than asopao. Not salty a plus. They run out of everything. So just ask what beer they have but don't ask the bartender if you like your head. Nasty. My waitress was real nice but over worked. We wanted to take home arroz con gandules for my 92 yo Mom; the reason we stopped. We're told to wait til we left for the take out. We waited and waited ..... oh sorry we ran out. If you want to wait an hour, an hour I make rice and pigeon peas in like 30 mins at home. Ok 45 but I'm not a restaurant. It's packed why? Cause where can you find as close to authentic Puerto Rican food in Rockland or Orange? Yeah fast food mostly Dominican. But if they don't fix their lack of service, food quantity, beverage availability and price control hasta la vista baby. Me voy at otro sitio. Too bad Used to really loved this place. Went here yesterday to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. 5 of us. I got the beef mofongo. Let me start here. WOW. They are NOT skimpy on the amount of steak they put in their mofongo! And the flavor was absolutely delicious. One of the best mofongos I've had in upstate NY if not THE best! My brother got the steak coquito, mom got the grilled red snapper, brothers wife got the grilled salmon, my girl got the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban sandwich was the only thing they could improve flavor wise out of this entire meal. Everything else was left with a clean dish. Amazing flavors and not over flavored, just perfect. We ordered tostones as a starter until our food came. Everything here was delicious. We ordered flan for a birthday dessert and once again let me stop here. WOW! One of the best and creamiest flans I've ever had. Before we left they offered us a shot of coquito each to celebrate the birthday before we left. Yet again I need to stop here and talk about it... WOW that coquito was as good as the flan. I give this place 5 stars and I'm a Puerto Rican. (Meaning I'd judge these dishes harder due to my familiarity with these popular dishes.) All the items on this menu have amazing flavors profiles. They are a bit pricey but the quality they put in their food makes up for their slightly above average prices. This is our absolutely favorite restaurant in the area. The owner, Valentino, goes out of his way to make sure everyone is taken care of and looked after. The ambiance is great, with live music on weekends and a DJ outside in the summer. There are many great, truly authentic Puerto Rican food options - like asopao (rice stew) with beef and peas, mofongo de camarones (shrimp cooked into mashed plantains). The have delicious empanadas (I love the beef, my kids love the chicken) and their lobster dish is also fantastic. Don't miss this place if you're in the mood for some great Latino food! read more

I'm used to very cheap but amazing Dominican and Puerto Rican food in the city. This place is not that. While good, Coquito is pricey and is not sustainable as a go-to staple for weeknight takeout like most restaurants of its cuisine. A plate of rice and chicken that costs you $7 near the city will cost you $20 here. It's hard to get past that price difference for almost the same food. However, I do enjoy the food here, as a fancier alternative to what I'm used to. The restaurant has a wonderful patio, a spacious modern interior, and so far we've liked everything we've had on the menu. While it's prices leave us only coming back for special occasions, I look forward to my pricey plantains once in awhile. read more

The outdoor seating area is enjoyable. Sadly, the food can be great (it use to be) if it wasn't SO SALTY! The coconut ice cream is to die for. We showed up on a Saturday early evening without a reservation and they still accommodated us but let us know we only had an hour and half to eat and leave. The staff was fighting amongst themselves over tables but everyone could hear and it was truly uncomfortable. This place has so much potential but I doubt I would be back anytime soon and if I do return it would only be for the incredible coconut ice cream that they serve in a coconut shell. When I come here to Coquito in Warwick I try and capture some of the flavors of her dinners when I order. I am usually not one to write reviews in Yelp but I would like to do it in this case as we loved the place pre-pandemic as well as the location. The drinks for a Latino place were very disappointing (e.g. the Mojito did not taste like it had good rum in it) . Same the portion for a very expensive shrimp skewer. ( Prior to placing the order, we were advised by the waitress that we might be receiving two or three skewers). It was barely a portion to share. The steak salad had no glazed walnuts (as per menu) and when inquiring we were advised that there were LEFTOVER crumps from the package in them and they did not have time to open a new package. We have never heard this explanation before! Also the empanada order was wrong (chicken instead of beef). We work very hard to be able to enjoy a dinner out, and the overall dinner with U$ 140 was certainly not cheap. Even more disappointing. I was invited to a graduation dinner at this lovely restaurant the food was really good I had the pork with the yellow rice that had beans and pork in the rice not too much pork in the rice just a little. Was a little loud because of the ceiling speakers and of course it was a very large table of guests. The sangria was enjoyable with the fruit and ice. Unfortunately they didn't know what to do with the ice cream cake that my host gave them to keep in the freezer we think they left it in the fridge and it was very melted. Another successful girls night! -First Impression- Small place, dim lighting. Looks like a great place to take a date. Very intimate feel (although there were plenty of families there with their kids). My friend and I stopped here for lunch after a morning of apple picking. When we arrived we were the only ones there and it was cool to have the restaurant to ourselves for a short while. Our server was real sweet and patient as we took forever deciding what to order because everything looked soo good. Within the hour of our arrival, a large private party arrived and people just started coming in back to back. The restaurant was definitely understaffed and unprepared for the amount of people coming in to eat which is the reason they didn't get 4 stars. Our server stated they get really packed at night and on the weekends. We were lucky enough to get there early and leave before the crowds came. The decor is really sleek and modern and they did a great job giving off that Latin vibe. Now to the food, I ordered the pernil sandwich with arroz con gandules which was absolutely delicious. The bread was soft and warm just like I like it and the pernil was very tasty. The arroz con gandules I could've ate by itself as a regular meal that's how yummy it tasted. I would love to check this place out on the weekend and be a part of the experience and simply hang out listening to some great music and eating some tasty Latin food. read more
