DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW. I found an item on Amazon of theirs, then freaked when I saw 2 stars on Yelp. It was a used Nikkor 200-600 telephoto lens that I plan to take to Alaska. They said it was in "very good condition" so I called their used gear department and spoke to Chris. He said they grade the gear conservatively so customers won't be disappointed. I asked if he had the Nikon d 7100 camera body and he said he had one with a shutter count of 30,000 that looked in good shape. We agreed on a price and both purchases were made. The gear came today and both items looked new. I spent the day shooting and the results were excellent. Going with used gear saved a lot, and my purchase prices were competitive with anything on line. Chris spent a long time on the phone with me, sorting out the issues. So why shouldn't you read this review? Because social media doesn't" work until the numbers are sufficient. Less than a hundred reviews on Yelp cannot eliminate random bias. Therefore, you don't have to believe me when I say I am thrilled with these purchases. read more

Jack's used to be great before the age of the internet. Now, they seem to refuse to acknowledge the reality of competition. If you absolutely need a lens or body right now and you're in central Indiana, this is one of your very limited options. They'll have it but be prepared to pay. I don't live close to Jack's any longer. I travel quite a bit so I can easily visit camera shops in other cities. I don't mind paying a little bit more to support a local business but it's not uncommon to see prices 50% above the market. There is no negotiation here so I often make an effort and then buy from somebody in Chicago, New York or Cleveland. On the other end of the spectrum, the used department has some real gems. It's one of the best selections I've seen anywhere. If you need an old film body, this is your place. read more

I purchased a "Like-New" used Nikon D600 from Jack's Camera. The camera's description stated a like-new D600, however, after receiving the camera, I found that it has over 12k clicks on it already. When I first received the camera, I only checked the physical conditions and verified it worked. I did not find out about the 12k clicks until a few weeks later. Since it's been more than 30 days, Jack's Camera is trying to charge a ridiculous 20% ($250) restocking fee! If I had been using it for a month, I would understand a fee. However, the camera is unused by myself and the time elapsed has had no impact nor depreciation on the value of the camera. On Amazon, the price of a used D600 is still $1250. In addition, the camera's condition was misrepresented on Amazon as a like-new camera. With 12K clicks, it is definitely not "like-new", because new is unused, so like-new would be something that's unused, but in an open-box or lightly used. With 12K clicks, that's the equivalent of using the camera for 120 consecutive days and taking an average of 100 photos each time. That is definitely not "like-new"! I believe it is the responsibility of the seller to properly represent products on their website. Therefore, I strongly believe that it is only fair that the seller takes back their camera and refund me what I paid." I'm extremely disappointed by Jack's Camera's and would urge all potential buyers to think twice before shopping there. You can't trust what you are getting from there and definitely can't trust them to rectify the issue. I promise, I will continue voicing this until they fix things, because I don't want other people to go through what I have. read more

I emailed them with questions about their services, will they do this or that, etc. NOT A SINGLE REPLY. I was willing to spend some money with them but after being ignored? I think not. I even emailed Chris to let him know that I emailed some questions to Jack's. You think he would have said something. Not a word. Ignored my questions. Well, Indiana. Fly-over country. They just don't care. There are many other photo shops who would be happy to get my money and work. Unfortunately, none of them are in the US. Figures. read more

I purchased a used Sony a7RII body which arrived on 12-26-2017. My experience with Chris (the internet sales guru) was one of, if not the best experience I've ever had purchasing a piece of camera gear. He was very personable and helpful, wasn't pushy and didn't try to up-sell me on additional items. The camera body is in better shape than described and is what I would call 'like new'. And BTW, 'like new' doesn't mean 'brand new', it means 'close to' or 'almost' new but at a great discount. If you want 'brand new' pay full price, but if you want a high quality used piece of camera equipment from people who know what they're selling and are honest about the process of selling used gear, check out Jack's and especially ask for Chris. Jack's used inventory in-store was fantastic! I have had too many bad customer service experiences at Roberts, so a drive to Muncie is worth it for the friendly service and prices at Jack's. Although they don't have a large selection of film, they do have all the used and analog equipment I need like slide mounts and paper. Their prices were fair. Jack's in Muncie and Central Camera in Chicago are my favorite stores for my analog supplies. read more

My husband and I are in the photography business and were doing the photography and videography for a wedding this past Saturday in Eaton at Meg's Country Celebrations. We always rent any equipment we need from Roberts in downtown Indianapolis; they are wonderful. Anyway, I stopped in your store to try to buy a small part that we were missing for our video set-up. I had several pictures of what I was looking for on my phone that my husband had sent me (he is the tech guru, I am more of the assistant). First, I was shocked that the door was locked and it said to call or knock on the door for assistance. A friendly blonde-haired woman with glasses came to greet me. When I showed her the pictures of what I was looking for, she said she would have to ask someone else. A very disgruntled older gentleman appeared from the back. He did not greet me and said verbatim "I need to have a sip of coffee before I look at anything, that is way more important at the moment." I am pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor. He barely looked at my pictures and told me he didn't carry it. I then turned around to leave, appalled, and was LOCKED OUT! Neither of them helped me while I struggled to open the door. read more

I love to support local Businesses.... however jacks camera store makes it extremely difficult to have photos printed. When I walk in to the store nobody greets me and when I find someone to ask a question they act very confused like they don't understand why I'm there (flash drive in hand asking to have photos printed). Photo quality is sub par, nothing special. One time I tried to have photos printed and the lady working that day said "I won't be able to do it today". I asked why not because they didn't close for three hours. Then she finally said she could do it. I was confused because I was the only person in the store. I really hope for their sake they can improve because it's nice to have a local camera/photo store to avoid big box stores. I was there just now to get some photos printed from a flash drive and the guy working said I would have to come back (this was the second time in a row this has happened so I'm on my way to Walmart to get my photos printed). read more
