I was SO pleasantly surprised by my experience here! A must-try! This place is ran so efficiently but I didn't feel as though we were rushed in any means. It is so home and cozy, seriously the ideal breakfast spot. The staff was super friendly and helpful with questions/allergy concerns. If the weather permits, I'd recommend snagging an outside table. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentine with a GF english muffin and was blown away. I can be super picky about my benedicts and was not expecting much at all. The eggs were cooked to perfection, the hollandaise was rich and tangy, and both the spinach and tomatoes were super fresh. Dipping their potatoes in the yolk/hollandaise reminisce was delish. I really made the dishwashers job easier that day, haha. Obviously one needs to get french toast or pancakes for the table. I totally get the hype around this french toast. So thick without being dry, even if you don't go the cinnamon route. Do be warned it's a lot more feeling than you might anticipate, I'd say one person won't need more than 2 slices! This restaurant is great. Good is always top notch. We used to drive from Southington to Higganum to get breakfast there. Now live closer in Cromwell. I love the Eggs Benedict while my wife and son always get the Cinnamon French toast. They make the breads there and you can buy a loaf to take home. The staff is great. It was my first time going to Jack's and I'm very impressed. This place runs like a well oiled machine. It was packed but I waited less than 10 minutes to get a spot at their counter service table. I came knowing that I wanted to try their homemade cinnamon bread French toast and I got that. It comes with a big slab of cinnamon butter on top. It added syrup and it was absolutely heavenly. I want to go back agsin for it soon. Friendly waitresses, good coffee and frequent refills offered. It's clean and cozy inside and the prices were very reasonable. it was about $12 for coffee and two pieces of the French toast. read more

Jack's was recently featured on channel 3. We are big breakfast folk, so a 35 minute drive from Manchester on a sunny (cold) morning to see if the restaurant was as good as it was supposed to be was very feasible for us. In a small stip mall in Higganum, we found Jack's. Clean & inviting inside, there was a short wait which we expected (due to the publicity on TV) We looked for someone taking names (to be seated), however seeing no one, we asked one of the locals waiting and was told they just eyeball the people waiting & seat them in order of when they arrived. Within a few minutes, we were seated in a comfortable booth. All the servers were really nice. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming. Coffee poured - not bad, though not quite as strong as I like it. I had 2 slices of cinnamon French toast served with cinnamon butter. So good!!! My husband had an omelette which he said was really good too. And prices were extremely reasonable. You could tell this was a great local place, but with the channel 3 publicity, many out of town folks were discovering Jacks's. As we told our waitress, we will be back. This was my first time here. I was looking for something with a little bit of a drive from my place and the reviews look good. The food was delicious. My friend and I both ordered the country restaurant scrambler. Hi then ordered one slice of the cinnamon French toast, which was so good. Our our waitress was super friendly and funny. It's basically a diner with your usual breakfast fares. I came here for breakfast with my family and friends while we were glampling nearby. It's located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The inside is a bit small but they do have tables outside. The first day we were there, we opted to sit outside so we wouldn't have to wait for a table inside. The waitress was super friendly and helpful answering my husband's question about the Portuguese rolls. I got the Vegetarian omelette the first day and it was way too wet and soggy. I ended up getting eggs with toast, sausage and home fries the 2nd day and that was way better. You get a choice of different toast and also different meat to choose from. They were very accommodating to the kids and made the home fries extra crispy for them. My husband loved their breakfast sandwich and part of it was because of that Portuguese roll according to him! The 2nd day we were there, it was raining and we didn't want to sit outside so we waited about 15-20 mins for a bigger booth to open up. This time around, it was a different wait staff and she was not friendly at all. She kept pushing the outside seating which we didn't want because it was raining. We did ask to split up into 2 tables but they really are quite packed and busy so that wasn't an option without waiting. There was a long line out the door when we left. There's not much else around so this is definitely THE breakfast spot. I guess it's ok for a nice day but if it's bad weather out, maybe it's worth it to venture further out for a meal. read more

I visited for the first time on Sunday morning. Timed it just right because we waited about 15 minutes. Jack's is located in a small shopping strip, a few doors down from the post office. Signage is kind of tricky because the sign has all of the other businesses on it, which makes it a lottle hard to see " Jack's". There is plenty of parking and is across the street from the hardware store. It is really cozy inside. The decor is that of Mel's diner or something late 70s to mid 80s. I did not mind the decor because the staff was great and can I tell you about the food? Ok, I will tell you about the food... The menu was abundant and accompanied by a special menu. The special menu included.... Orange Mimosa French Toast... WHAT??? Delicious is what.. I mean topped with sugar crystals and an orange garnished with the same and served with perfectly cooked chicken sausage. My heart smiled and my tummy fluttered when the waitress explained it. Three thumbs up Jack's!!! I guess there is a reason why this place is listed in the top 5 breakfast spots in CT. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... they close at noon. I stopped in here for some breakfast after hiking in the nearby parks and trails. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches for pickup and was excited to see how inexpensive they were! For $4 you can choose a meat and get two eggs and cheese on a Portuguese roll. The rolls were great and not too sweet, and they give you so much meat! EXCELLENT!!!! Jack's has the tasty food you'd expect to find at a local dive, but is a large, bright, cheery restaurant with extremely pleasant employees!! Unlike a lot of other local breakfast spots, it's clear what you should do when you walk in because they have the "please wait to be seated" sign right inside the door. And you don't have to wait long before being cheerfully greeted and directed to an empty table. Jack's was off to a good start before we even looked at the menu. There were many things I wanted to try but only so much I could order on my first visit. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet, which was bulging full of crispy bacon and was delicious. Home fries were actually crispy (so rare around here) and the cornbread was to die for. My husband got a Western sandwich, which was quite good. The food came out so quickly and the wait staff were very attentive. I don't know if it's typical, but the two servers seemed to handle all of the tables together, as they both helped us at different times throughout our meal. The muffin was toasted where it was hot it was to die for but it can out of a fridge so the inside was cold as a result of this. The Benny was amazing nice liquid center to the yolks and Canadian bacon the home fries were ehhh. Salt pepper and ketchup was required for flavor. Locals LOVE and constantly recommend this place. The food isn't great though. It is a classic basic breakfast vibe, I normally adore such places, but there's a level of low quality in the food here that goes a little too far away from the admirably functional that I appreciate in basic breakfast and bends towards cheap and empty food, trying to make up for attention and quality with giant sized portions. Food: The bagels are not bagels and this is to be expected in anyplace outside of a city, but these are just too big too sweet and tooooo white bread airy even with the expectation that it doesn't need to meet Jewish bagel standards. Home fries were decent. Potatoes are potatoes as long as they aren't raw, and these were fine, but there was no creativity... some diners will throw in some paprika or a signature seasoning, these are just basic. They would be much better with a little more crisp as well. Eggs were pretty basic. Scrambled. Fluffy. The cheese on the egg sandwich was not acceptable cheese though, even for a no frills breakfast, it was "cheese food." A slightly better cheese would really make the meal a lot better. Even American cheese is Fine, just maybe a slightly better grade is needed here . Service: The service was aloof on two separate visits. This whole area is known to be quite insular, if your family wasn't here 200 years ago and if your name isn't Zybreski or Sieman or Parmalee you're an outsider. (made up names to protect the innocent ) I observed on both visits many many people here were obvious locals and they were treated with much love and gushing, while I was treated with minimal service, no refills of coffee, no courtesy when looking for a pen, no eye contact when paying, meh meh and meh... I've experienced this quite a bit with local joints Across America. The town diner is a hub, and it can help set a tone. It would be much better for the town to be more welcoming. it was pretty obvious why all the locals gush about this place when you see how differently they are treated. well, they are the ones keeping it in business I guess, because even someone like me who travels a LOT and has had to eat in roadstops across America would find the service and food a bit lacking. Two stars for the "cheers without beers" slogan because when you don't drink it's hard to find places to hang out! So I really appreciate that. read more
