[[HIGHLIGHT]]Small breakfast spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quick service and friendly staff. Ordered bacon egg and cheese on Croissant, the lumberjack omelette, pancakes , and a cup of coffee. Prices are fair and food is good. Quick in and out restaurant.

It's a cute out of the way 10 table restaurant in Middletown. We went because I love sausage and gravy. I'm from the south where it's common. Not so much up here. I read they had a Cajun gravy the got high marks so we went. My wife is just as crazy for eggs Benedict. We were both so very, highly disappointed. The gravy had zero Cajun fly. Actually very little flavor at all. The biscuit was just a cold dense lump someone ladled bad gravy on top of. My wife ordered the regular Benedict but got florentine with spinach. Not the worst thing but the egg yolks were so overcooked and hard she commented they could be used as golf balls. And even though less than half full of customers we had to wait nearly half a for expensive bad food. The one waitress was nice. Seemed to only have one cook. Won't be going back. My search for good biscuits and gravy in Connecticut continues.

This is the best breakfast place in the Middletown area. My cheddar cheese and corned beef omelet was superb! The corned beef was the actual product shredded, not small cubes from a can. And the omelet was large and filled with both cheese and beef. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely worth a stop in this modest, strip mall location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Food tasted fresh and the service was kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cute and has a friendly neighborhood vibe![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Price was also very reasonable! Full omelet homefries toast and coffee for less than 15.00!

Fruit salad side order for breakfast

Nine of us had breakfast today at this friendly spot with delicious food. Everyone liked their meal, and the prices were reasonable. Although there was only one server and one cook, they kept up well with the orders. I didn't try the banana bread French toast because I don't like walnuts, but the two people who tried it raved about it. I wasn't so hungry so I just ordered the fruit cup and some cinnamon raisin toast. What an attractive presentation - many fruits layered in a Mason jar - even a fruit I had never tried before, gooseberries! I ended up dumping the jar out on a dish and it is really a substantial portion, much larger than what you usually get when you order fruit.

French Toast and a side of Home Fries

A locals-type-feel dinette in a plaza where Saybrook and Randolph meet. Waitress knew the usuals seated at the counter. Cook came out to chat with the regulars at the counter once all orders were out. You can see him place the order up after every meal he completes. This truly is cook to order. I stopped in as I was nearby and hungry. The nice lady who took my order was very welcoming and cook had an inviting smile. Friendliness exuded from this place form the second you walk in the door. The menu says "all orders are made to order so we appreciate your patience". I just want to point that out to the reviews that complained about it taking too long on a busy weekend morning. Sign at register says charge cards for $5 and over please. This is not cash only. Bacon was delicious. Toast was fluffy inside, not thin. Home fries were fresh cut potatoes. The meal was great. I will go back. [Delivery at a later date was through door dash. Photos of what I received are attached.]

I do wish there were more signs, as both the parking lot and the entrance felt a bit vague and easy to miss. Once we finally found our way inside, we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere reminded me of another local tavern. Staffed by friendly people. The food was good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. My only disappointment was the lack of information about the history of the establishment. There is a lot of marketing that references its connection to a jailhouse on the menu, but very little information is actually shared within the tavern itself. I found myself wanting to learn more about the story behind the place. I also think it would be fun to add a photo-op area--perhaps even outdoors--with a set of mock jail bars where guests could take pictures. It would fit the theme and add a memorable touch. The tavern itself is fairly small, so I can imagine it gets quite crowded during busy times. Overall, it's definitely worth checking out.

They do offer a free lot in the back, but judging by all the cars, Mondo is very popular on a Friday evening. Sure enough, there was a big line of people picking up orders, but we walked right in and were seated immediately. We started off with a beet salad, which was surprisingly delicious, combining candied walnuts and sweet orange and green apple slices with salty feta and tangy balsamic over a mountain of mixed greens. We then moved on to paninis, generous portions of meat and toppings on freshly baked, crispy bread. One of us chose more mixed greens tossed with dressing while the other chose crunchy French fries. We also ordered a third panini to go, the Mondo combo. We asked for fries; the kitchen accidentally gave us a salad. Our server, Heather N., saved the day by noticing the error and giving us both side orders. Mondo is family friendly, and there were plenty of children during our visit. As such, the volume was a tad loud and boisterous, but nothing obnoxious that would prevent us from returning.

We were seated quickly at a nice table with a white tablecloth, which gave it a more polished feel right away. There were TVs around showing the NFL Draft and UFL, which was nice to have to keep up to date on sports. The person I was with did wonder why the Knicks playoff game wasn't on, though. I ordered the Oven Roasted Norwegian salmon, and it was excellent. Really crisp on the outside while staying moist inside, it was exactly I like it. It was served over a bed of fresh vegetables with a salsa verde sauce that tied everything together really well. For dessert, I got the cheesecake. It looked small at first, but it was very filling. It came with a strawberry and a side of fresh whipped cream. The flavor was a little unique, not as sweet as I expected, but it worked really well. The service was good throughout the night, too. Our waiter was very friendly and kept us updated throughout the meal on when our food would be coming, which I appreciated. Altogether, this was a really solid experience and I would go back.

We had tickets at eight for Haunting at the Ridge about three minutes away. After looking at the menu, we decided to come here for dinner. I was very excited because of all the great menu options. The service was terrible from the start all around. We arrived at 6:15. There was two people in front of us. The hostess acknowledged us, but never took our name. A few minutes later, other people started coming in and she started taking their names and asking them if they wanted to sit outside. She never gave us that option. One of the people came in and started to debate whether or not they wanted to wait 20 minutes. She told them "You can stay or go, it doesn't matter to me." I should have known right there to leave. We were seated at 6:30 which was not a bad wait. 6:45 our orders were taken. Our waitress did not come back to the table one time after bringing our drinks. Never checked on us, never let us know what was going on with the food. She came back at 7:28 with our appetizer. We asked her how long would it take for the rest of our food. She apologized and said it would be another 20 to 25 minutes. I didn't understand how burgers take over an hour to make. We canceled the rest of the order. I was excited about the hotdog. Another letdown. It was cold when I got it and the chili on top had no flavor. I'm not even sure if it was deep-fried. Definitely not worth the $14.50 price. I will say the fries were very good. They were the only bright spot of the night. They have a lot to offer, but I would never come back here due to my experience.

I didn't notice any crazy rare lambics but that's not what we were looking for. We had a few hazies and few stouts and everything was delightful. Our server Anna was a seasoned pro. She knew the menu and exactly when to come by our table to check in. We had some pulled pork nachos and there was plenty to go around.
