I have been going to Jack's on a once or twice weekly breakfast for years and I do mean YEARS, but I had an issue and have not returned for a couple of years. You really got to be drunk to enjoy the food they serve there. While the service is nice, the food is just yuck. I went there during the day (and sober) for breakfast and it was just horrible. I got the biscuits and gravy with a side of potato's and it was just all bad. The biscuits were actually hard! Do they save what they do not sell or something? Not only that but they tasted a little stale as well. The gravy was super bland, like there was no seasoning thrown in there at all. When it came to my potatos, they for one looked old, and they tasted very burnt (and also old). I could not even eat the potatos and I only ate the top of my biscuits and gravy. Their pies are good and if you just need a nice slice of pie late at night, that is a good place to go. But for like an actual meal, make sure you put a couple drinks away before you look at their menu. read more

My boyfriend and I came in to get coffee in the middle of the night because it was the only place open serving decent coffee. We just wanted to sit and talk about a movie we had just seen at the Pageant, but this did not happen. We were treated like absolute s**t for not ordering food. We told the waitress we were just ordering coffee, she just kind of said 'ok' and ignored us. I asked her if there was a specific table she wanted us to sit and she grunted and seated us close to the manager as if we were going to cause trouble. I asked for water in addition to the coffee and it was never brought. I hate to complain about service being that I am a waitress by trade, but I was appalled. The place was empty, we were polite, not intoxicated like I assume the majority of their clientele is, and still we were treated like crap/ignored. The manager refilled our coffee and made a joke about keeping warm as if we were homeless and kept an eye on us as if we were going to walk out. The waitress straight up looked like she wanted to throw something at us. We decided to leave and waited ten minutes before going up to the register. It's not like I wasn't going to tip something, even on a mere cup of coffee, but when I walked up to pay (no check was brought) I was not even given the option. I asked if I could get some coffee to go as I have done this in the past and was told no, even though I would have been willing to pay more. The manager again was very rude and just scowled when I said "thank you sir". I'll drive to Denny's next time I want to have a conversation over coffee. read more

Reasonable prices, good diner food, amazing service. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, our waitress was a total sweetheart. Once I went in there when I was sick and they recommended home remedies and were very caring and considerate. I hope they stay around for a long time to come. read more

Jacks is a place that will suprise you. When looking at it, most people automatically write it off as another greasy spoon place. It is not. Its service is good, and the pricing is great. I love getting the steak and eggs, which was VERY affordable. They use harris ranch beef and cook it the way you want it, which is tough to convey in some places (you order rare, they blacken it). Not at Jacks. Awesome place to study for hours on end (no outlets for laptops, so dont bank on that). But they will happily serve you coffee and keep you going. read more

i'm not giving it 4 stars because of the food. the food is typical diner food and quality. so that itself to me is worth 3 stars since i like diner food. but the extra star is for the service. the service is awesome. been there are really weird times in the night and for long times just eating pie with my friends and talking but still got awesome service from the staff. love this place read more

The burgers and fries are some of the best in chico and you can't beat their lunch specials that came with really good ice cream. I just came here today for some breakfast and it was top notch without breaking the bank. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the area and I recommend it to all my friends. read more

Denny's-style menu & prices. Their cooks aren't the best, & they rush orders a lot so they tend to either overcook or undercook their food, but their customer service is great. If I was giving stars just based on the food, I'd give 1 star, but I gave them 3 bcuz their service is that good. If ur order isn't to ur liking, they will fix it for u & do it happily, without any attitude. They're so friendly & I feel like a lot of the time the servers/hosts/manager have to cover for the cooks' food. If they would hire some better cooks it would be an improvement. I'd never dine-in at this place though, only carry out. It's usually occupied (at night at least)with drunk adults, loud, obnoxious college kids, & obvious transients. Not judging, but it kinda ruins the appetite. But if ur coming from the bars downtown in the middle of the night & ur hungry this would be the spot to go to, as they're open 24hrs, & no food ever tastes bad when ur drunk, lol! read more

I really can't give this place more than 2 stars. The food is just ok, nothing at all great about it, but it's not inedible. It's exactly like Denny's, from price to food quality. The staff are very nice, & I like that they're open 24 hours. I'd say my biggest complaint is that they do not keep their online menu updated. This is a problem since I only phone in my orders for pick up. When I call, they give me a list of things on their menu,(which I can't remember everything they said at the beginning of the list by the time they get to the end of it), so I have to have them repeat it a couple times. One lady told me if I need more time to decide to call back later because they have other calls to take & customers to help. I'm like really? After all that? I wasn't even on the phone 5 minutes. I am ALSO a customer who wants to order food so if that means that they have to sit on the phone & describe everything they have then it should be "so be it". If they just updated their menu this wouldn't even be an issue. If you miss other customer calls because of that that's not my fault.She could have asked me to hold on while she answered the other call & asked them to please hold, then got back to me. The woman I spoke with told me I was mistaken when I ordered a chicken fillet sandwich. She said they don't have that, & I told her it's on your online menu. She insisted I was wrong & whatever menu I had in my hands was wrong. I reiterated that it was their online menu I was looking at & she said she's been working there 7 years (like that matters?) & has never seen that on the menu. Wow. I'm thinking then it must be at least 7 years since they've updated it, so definitely don't go by anything the website has. My best advice for this place is to either update their site or take it down, & educate their staff on customer service/phone etiquette, how to switch lines & ask people to please hold if they get high call volume. & definitely don't tell the customers how long you've been working there & that they're wrong. Just say sure, we can make that happen for you. If a restaurant can't improvise, especially to make up for their lack of accuracy on their own menu, they're not much of a restaurant. ***Additionally, I just recently tried to order from here again & I got the same Hispanic lady who's apparently been working there for 7 years & she flat out REFUSED to place my order unless I gave her my phone number. I asked to speak to a manager & she said she IS the manager! If that's true, that's not good! We argued over my number for a minute & then she asked me to hold because she had other customers & I said no, I'm a customer & I just want to order my food so I can get off the phone. She put me on hold anyways, & then she hung up on me. Because of this, I was going to drop my rating to one star & never go here again, but when I called back & asked to speak with someone else besides her because she was so rude & unprofessional, & I got a different, very pleasant woman who apologized to me for the treatment I had received & took my order immediately. She is the only reason I didn't drop my rating & I might come back. HALEY YOU'RE AWESOME! **The hispanic lady is not the manager. Apparently he is a man, & as an apology for my experience he sent someone to deliver a slice of cheesecake to me. It was a small gesture but it showed that he cared about how his customers are treated. I hope that lady is reprimanded for lying to me, arguing with me 2 days in a row, & hanging up on me. Aside from her, I have no complaints at all about the staff. The rest of them are wonderful! I think I'll bump up my rating to 3 stars thanks to the joint effort of the rest of the staff to make me happy. read more

I am not in the habit of complaining about food but tonight's experience was literally the worst I have experienced in Chico, period, in 10 years of living here. I ordered the tuna melt on sourdough bread with a large salad in place of fries. The waitress said that would be fine. She served me this teeny weeny salad on what looked like a saucer for a teacup. Twenty minutes later my sandwich came with an enormous helping of french fries in lieu of the healthy salad I had ordered. It looked to be deep fried, extremely greasy and rancid smelling. I peeled away the bread to eat the tuna, thinking that would be at least some protein as I was starving. The tuna was extremely "fishy" with nothing in the "tuna salad" but mayonnaise and tuna. No vegetables on the sandwich whatsoever! There were little black spots in the tuna that looked like fish skin, definitely the cheapest possible tuna they could have bought. At Winco I could have bought a whole loaf of whole grain bread and a can of top quality Albacore tuna for 3 dollars. This disgusting totally inedible sandwich was 6.99. The waitress totally screwed up my order, the food was totally nasty. I complained, they took it back and gave me another meal, which was somewhat better. But the green leaf lettuce was so full of toxic pesticides that I still have a metallic taste in my mouth 4 hours later after chewing gum and brushing my teeth. Literally I was feeling so nauseous that I had to file a formal complaint from this food. The manager was nice but didnt' get it when I tried to explain how bad rancid grease was. He could only offer "But it's fried in the best Crisco shortening there is!" and "We change it regularly!" To be honest, local or not, Denny's Tuna Salad sandwich is really good and would have been a much better place for me to eat. At least they use good quality fish!!! Also, my kids were with me. They were not so impressed with their food and had wished we had eaten at a taco truck instead, which proves to be infinitely more healthier and seven dollars less for a filling meal that does not make us sick!!! My son ordered a breakfast for dinner --"brinner"- while my daughter ordered a regular dinner. At the end of her meal she was offered a chocolate ice cream cone. My son was offered nothing because "He didn't order from that menu," according to the waitress. Even though the breakfast and dinner menu are literally on the same piece of laminated paper. The waitress could not understand that one child would now be jealous of the other and she was putting me in a bad position by saying, "You can order another ice cream cone for an extra $1.29" then staring at me, waiting for me to cave in. At that point I didn't want to even bother giving them any more money and I promised my son I would buy him ice cream from somewhere else!!! Overall, I say... UGH! Never again! read more
