I was in the area for extended time and started having issues with a steering gear I just had replaced elsewhere. Roy took time out of his very busy day to quickly diagnose it, said he could fix it in a few days if I wanted, but he advised me to keep driving it as he thought there wouldn't be an issue. Sure enough, a few weeks later and it was still going and I was able to take it back to the original mechanic. Traveling from Texas, and two thousand miles into our great family vacation in the Grand Tetons, my 2000 Land Cruiser alternator light came on 1/4 of the way around the great Yellowstone National Park loop. I preserved the battery, made it back to the Jackson Lake Lodge where we were staying, and began the process of thinking (actually worrying) how to get the alternator replaced (the battery was month old so I knew 98% that it was not the issue). I am a "do it yourself" vehicle owner and had the tools with me but I simply did not want to do the work on vacation. I also did not know if the alternator was available. After searching Yelp & Google reviews I landed on Roy's Auto Repair in Jackson WY. I called Roy early the next morning and he immediately showed empathy for my situation (on vacation and vehicle won't work). He said he was overloaded with work but volunteered that if I got the car in by 10AM, he would have it back at the end of the day. He kept his promise and I was out by 5pm same day with everything working even after they had to navigate a stripped out alternator bolt (not their fault). The price I was charged was totally fair. We had never spoken (I'd never asked) about what the cost would be (which is not like me) and I was braced for a potential shocker but it never came. I just love candor and honesty. If you are like me and have a healthy fear of being "taken" by someone (think dealerships and shysters), then use my experience for what it is worth to decide who to take your vehicle repair to when you are in the Jackson Hole area and having issues. So I called to get the quote over the phone for a standard oil change on my 2013 Ford Fiesta 4 cylinder. I know that prices are a little bit high in Jackson but the quotes that I was giving was $160 for a fuking oil change! Extremely greedy business people for sure in Jackson! They do not at all cater to the working-class that live in and around that major stinking hole called Jackson. No wonder they are driving all of their business elsewhere like Idaho Falls and Rexburg. Absolutely some of the worst service I have ever encountered. Do not come here for any reason! I came to Roy's looking to get my trailer lights connection repaired. I explained the issue and he said he would check it out. He tinkered with the lights for a few minutes and then with no warning started cussing and yelling at me they he didn't have time for this and they were f***ked. He said the repair would be $200 and I should come back later but at that point I was out the door. I went to auto tech very nearby where they were polite and fixed a simple short in the wiring. The repair took 15 minutes and they charged me $15. read more

Roy fit us into his already packed schedule to replace the front rotors on our van. We got them a little toasty coming down the pass and they warped. He not only got it done by noon but he called when he said he would! Not enough mechanics communicate as well as him. In addition to getting us on our way he gave us a good natured hard time about not riding the brakes down the pass and told us to gear down, not brake. Age old advice that we knew but didn't follow. I don't know anything about cars so when I heard a weird noise coming from the bottom of my car of course I freaked out. I went to this place on a whim and was expecting to pay a lot for repairs and Roy thoroughly examined my car and found that the splash guard was broken and just ripped off the part that was making the noise and informed me that I could get it repaired later without any issues after enjoying my trip. Long story short, he definitely could've hustled me but he was very honest and reassuring. Roy's Auto saved our road trip. We drove from Denver to Jackson and hit some pretty nasty 60+ mph winds on I80 which put the engine in overdrive. The coolant temp warning light on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee flashed on and off a few times but we made it to Jackson safely. Drove it around Jackson to drop my dog off at daycare and then things got bad. The temp light stayed on and was screaming at me the whole drive back to the hotel. The next day was Monday, thankfully so I called Roy's and they were able to get me in that day. My Jeep overheated and completely shut off while driving to the shop (an extremely scary/stressful moment) but I was only a few blocks away and was able to start it and drive it in. They checked my cooling system, tested the cause of the problem, fixed the issue, test drove it all morning and promised me that they wouldn't get it back to me until it was good which was on Tuesday (the next day) at 11a. Turnaround time was great and there were no delays to our trip. We went on our way to Big Sky with no problems at all. And we made it home safely from Big Sky to Denver. I'm sure Roy's Auto gets a lot of traffic from people like me on road trips and other out-of-towners. Its nice to have a trusted mechanic when you're in this type of situation when there are so many unknowns. We had the good fortune of our battery going dead in Jackson, WY, instead of in the middle of Yellowstone NP or Grand Tetons NP. We went to Napa and they were nice but couldn't replace it for our car. They sent us to a Oil Change place who couldn't because the car's computer was placed on top of the battery (smart design).
