Jackson Soul Food is a well known establishment in Miami. Their food is good, especially their collard greens. In fact, their collards are best I tasted ever. On this occasion, the overall service was slow. When I arrived I stood by the entrance for 10 minutes waiting to be seated. The waiters and staff kept passing me time and again. Finally I was asked to sit anywhere. 10 minutes after I was seated 2 other diners walked in and were seated immediately. After 20 minutes my order was finally placed. Those who came after me were served before me. Anyways, I waited 45 minutes before receiving the wrong order. This meant another 20 minutes until I finally got my desired meal. On August 09, 2026, Sunday I contacted this restaurant, Jackson Soul Food, the Opa L location. They said they had one half of my order ready, sitting on the counter with my name on it. The DoorDash driver saw it, took it, and walked off. So I only had half of my order. Why would they put my half of the order in an open area for the DoorDash driver to pick up? It sounds kind of funny and unbelievable. They should not place an order anywhere that the DoorDash driver can get it if it's not completed, so I believe the store only gave half the order and kept the rest, or they ran out of food. DoorDash drivers do not just pick up an order without speaking to the restaurant to make sure that's everything, and they hand it to them, so what the person told me at the Opalocka location was ridiculous and sounds unbelievable. read more

I love Jackson soul food! They cook like your mom/grandmothers on Sunday mornings before church lol but it's an authentic African-American breakfast spot. If you want a real taste of miami then either Jackson's(overtown/opa-Locka locations) should be an essential part of your plan. The service is always welcoming like an older aunt. I have been trying to get into this spot for a few months. I always seem to try and get in when the parking lot is packed. A packed parking lot is a great sign. Food has got to be good. I went early today and secured my spot and my plate! No disappointment to be found. Small diner type vibe. Folks coming and going for to-go orders. I loved the obvious regulars chit-chatting with the staff. Hilarious! Ordered the salmon croquettes, grits, scrambled egg whites with toast and a side of onions & peppers and a coffee. Delicious! I did not need to season anything. Usually, grits need a lil something. Not these. Croquettes were meaty and full of peppers. So very good. The food is always good here, however, today I GOT PLAYED FOR A FEW DOLLARS! At around 7:20am, I came into the restaurant and ordered a grilled chicken breakfast platter to go. This was listed at $10.95. I should have figured that something was up when I wasn't directly sent to the register. As i sit and wait for my order to come up, I notice the lady who came to pick up her order after me, sprinted to the ATM and came back to the counter. I thought nothing of it until I hear "broken" in the woman and counterperson's conversation. I asked the counterperson if I had to pay with cash. She said yes pointing to the ATM in the corner. I withdrew $20 with a $3 access fee. Wow! I ordered a "flop" when I returned. I saw that it was about $2.50. As my order came back, the counter person told me that she would come back with my total. She went to the back of the restaurant for a moment and returned with a notepad and calculator. With a few taps of the total came up to %18.65. I don't understand that math. With a 10.95 order and medium drink $2.50, the total should be around $16.55 with %6 salad tax. I asked the lady why wasn't the flop on the house since it was around the same amount of money spent ad the fee I didn't plan on paying for at the ATM. Her response was that the ATM isn't their property and she didn't know the fee was that high. At this point, I guess that I could have called for a manager, or asked for a full refund, look for my bank near by, looked for a no fee ATM near by, or cancled my ordered in the first place. But I was so hungry, and so close to my office that I didn't want to be late dealing with this situation. So I left with the food.... Many could say it is just 3 dollars, what does it matter? Well if $3 dollars didn't matter, then why was the flop not on the house? If I were the employee, I would have given the drink for free since she was fully aware that the system was down and that I would need cash. If I had not seen the lady behind me go to the ATM I would have never known. I should have been told this before I even ordered, otherwise I wouldn't have been coerced into using the ATM. I feel as if I were played like a fool in this situation. No freebies could be restaurant policy, but atleast I would have been put in the loop to make the best decisions for me. The 2 stars is for the food. The counter staff lacks good customer service and math skills. I really feel like I was not even a consideration at that moment. Let's just take his money while we get the registers back online. They lost 3 stars for that. Why not just close the doors until the problem is fixed? read more

Where do I start, Jackson's is a very small mama and pop diner. I always get the smother liver with onions . They have the best liver in town. It is always season to perfection. It is a bit pricey, 9.09 and cents but so worth it. It can get crowed so you have to be patient, but the food is always good so its worth it the wait. read more
