Having been mentioned multiple times in conversation, Carlito's Wine house is pretty much what I envisioned it to be. There was definitely more casual seating than I expected, but it might be a plus. The ambiance is perfect for a casual night out, but romantic enough for a date. They probably have one of the largest wine selections in the area, and offer a lot of food options as well. Lots of people opt for the cheese plates, but they also serve burgers, etc. They have specials/happy hour during the week, friendly staff, and plenty of seating on a Friday night. Very cozy wine bar in the Valley. There's music , but it was not intrusive. The server was very attentive. It's a shame that we went there just after dinner, so we only ordered drinks. The charcuterie that a nearby table ordered looked good. They can stand to do an upgrade on the bathroom, though. read more

This wine bar reminds me of the ones I would find back home in SA and Dallas. The place is very spacious with comfy leather couches and different wooden tables. There's a stage as well so maybe on weekends there's live music at night. The service is really friendly, and if you're a student - there are actually plenty of outlets and the wifi is strong if you want a different studying spot! WINE: They have a huge selection of white and red wines and they make wine-ritas as well. There's a happy hour that gives a special deal on the wine-ritas on Tuesday and then on the day we went, they were giving 10% off selected wine bottles. If you're going to stay a while with a friend and plan on drinking at least 2 glasses, would probably be best to just split a bottle of wine with a friend (make sure you have a sober ride home! =)) FOOD: --CHEESE BOARD (5/5): There are two types of cheese boards here - the Classic Cheese Platter and the Brie-tiful Cheese Platter. My friend and I decided to go with the CLASSIC CHEESE PLATTER ($10.99) which was plenty for two friends and decently priced for what we got. The board came with sliced salami, mild cheddar, Havarti cheese, Van Gogh cheese, water crackers, grapes, and sliced apples and pears. I went to Carlito's on a Saturday night with some friends, and we had a great time! They had some live music playing that made it a little difficult to hear over, but it was fun and up beat. They also had a special deal of 5$ frozen sangria that was a little sweet but not over the top and 6$ flatbreads. The drinks were good, a little pricey, but I think worth it for the atmosphere. And the flatbread was decent! They have a huge selection of wine to pick from, so I will definitely be back to sample that. Overall, I give Carlito's 4 stars for the atmosphere. As soon as you enter you are greeted with chill vibes as relaxing music eases you into their couches. They also have tables and a bar area. We are very disappointed with getting wine at Carlitos. We ordered a bottle of wine which we thought by description would be good. When the waitress brought it over for us to try we said we did not like it. She said I can take it to the manager and see if there's something wrong with it. She did. He said there was nothing wrong with it. So we had to buy the whole bottle. I don't believe that's how a wine bar is meant to work. They could have kept the bottle and sold individual glasses from it. We could have gotten a different wine and then been happy happy customers who would come back. Arrived at Carlito's around 4:30 opening day, great location and atmosphere. We were a big group, only complaint was the seating. Very comfy couches but makes it kind of hard to hear the person across the table from you, once the place starts filling up. The wine selection is great! Tried a variety of wine glasses, my favorite was the Bella Mia. They have a really good beer selection too and decently priced appetizers. Can't wait to go back for their live music nights. Been here a couple times and the atmosphere is definitely my favorite part of it. The specials aren't bad and the bartenders are very attentive and courteous. The crowd it pulls in is also a nice change of pace. You don't have to worry about fights or rowdy ppl. Food wise I've only ever had the flatbread but it was pretty good. read more

Absolutely recommend this place. Was there with a couple of friends and ordered their brie-tiful cheese platter and bruschetta. The wines are good and I recommend their white skyfall Pinot Grigio if you like a crispy refreshing wine. The prices are not bad at all. The only downside is the sitting situation. We were a large group and even though they have couches I felt that we were a little cramped. Comfortably, they only sit about 3 people in each couch. Regardless, I still had a great time. Carlito's Wine House is the only foodie hipster location I know of in Harlingen, and that alone should give it five stars, but what sets Carlito's apart is the ambience - a mix of leather and wood, it's a posh, rich and comfortable clubby atmosphere that gives off a feeling that's a lot more Dallas than Harlingen. We shared a bottle of prosecco and a charcuterie plate while listening to Sinatra standards and we couldn't have chosen a better place for a boozy afternoon. Definitely five stars! read more

A large list of wines in numerous price ranges as well as a great selection of foreign and domestic beers are on the extensive menu. In addition, there are light snacks available if you are hungry. Luis and his wife are doing a great job of keeping an adult atmosphere with light music and the numerous flat screen TVs on mute. In other words, it is possible to meet with friends and have a conversation without having to shout. Comfortable sofas if that is what you want or chairs around wine barrels is another option for those who prefer that option are spread throughout the room. Carlittos is a lovely wine place in the heart of Jackson Street, Harlingen, Texas, where the Markets Days is the most excitement ever seen in that street. At least in the four and a half years I have lived here. A few of my friends and I decided to visit Carlittos for happy hour this lovely Friday. We got there around 5:30 pm or so. It was just the four of us. The lovely waitress was sweet and she fulfilled our orders with a smile. It was great until the following took place. I asked politely if two of the empty, unreserved tables could be placed together so the four of us could sit there after a long day at work. The bar stools are very uncomfortable. Take a guess of the answer... "Sorry we can't move the tables..." Wow, seriously??? I can understand if you were busy but the tables were empty, not reserved, and there were only four of us. The second strike: a young gentleman comes by to let us know that our waitress is now serving a party and he would be our server. I'm sorry... What our money is not as good as the people in the birthday party??? Oh, I think it was the fact that we were not wearing flip flops and a short skirt like the manger. I mean seriously... Strike #3 the waiter ignored us for the first hour or so, after we consumed a $40 bottle of wine,$15 cheese platter, and several other drinks. When we asked for our receipts we were asked what we had ordered, since neither the waitress nor the waiter could remember. We should have maybe just said water and walked out. Instead, we did the right thing, only instead of our receipts we got another bottle of wine and drink we never ordered. I think we were way more sober than the servers. It's all great to have a decent place in Harlingen, but at least have the decency to treat each and every customer with the respect they deserve. We are there to enjoy the atmosphere, each other's company without a side of judgement and disrespect. You never know who that person you are serving is, and most importantly who they know, and how many people they impact. Don't be disappointed by the lousy tip. We were being generous even leaving you a tip. You made us feel like we didn't belong. Hope the next time we may visit we would at least be respected. read more

Carlitos Wine House is the classiest, nicest, upscale bar in Harlingen, and one of my favorites. The atmosphere is super nice and relaxing. They have a big wine selection, lots of craft beers as well, and delicious food that compliment your wine! Love this place they have live music Thursday-Saturday nights. Went to lunch with 5 other females. First time for 3 of us. Our wine flight was good but almost had to beg the server to see the menu. Got our drinks (one lady had to ask twice to get a glass for her beer). Then he came back to take our food order. Then we waited and waited and waited. Finally 5 of our meals came out but the special of the day took a long time again. We're sure he forgot since he refused to write down our order. We had a good time but spent almost 2 hrs. there for lunch. In other words, the service sucked. Surprised too since the female owner was there and seemed totally unconcerned with us. I was really excited to hear about a wine bar in Harlingen and really want this place to thrive, but I have a few complaints. The servers and bar-tenders are not very knowledgeable in the wine lists; servers with knowledge in the wine and taste will only make the experience better. Second, the seating at the barrels is very uncomfortable; the stools are too high for the table you have to bend over significantly to eat your food (not very attractive when you're eating a salad or a sandwich). A comfortable sitting environment will only make people want to stay longer to eat and drink more. Third, it would be great if there was a larger selection of food options. The only option for a meals are sandwiches at the moment. A broader selection of appetizers and meal options would be great (maybe flat breads, stuffed mushrooms, etc.). Also, when we went last, we ordered the blue cheese bacon dip and were charged an extra dollar for more crostinis. In my opinion, this is a little tacky for a nice wine bar. Lastly, there should be more options for buying single glasses of wine. My friends and I will usually sample glasses before deciding on a bottle. Here, the wine selections to buy a single glass are similar to any other restaurant (not kidding, I can literally get a glass of the Louis Martini Cab at Logans for $6). I hope you see these as suggestions to make the place better more than anything. read more
