As soon as we walked in to the restaurant, a waitress raised her voice at us. We decided to leave because that's simply not normal behavior.

The first time we went...he was by himself and it was fabulous. The second time we went, he had a band with him and it was equally fabulous. We took my inlaws there when they were in town and they had a great time. Make sure to check out the schedule when he is in town and to go early. He's not here year around so you have to get lucky and time it just right. Though from what we have heard, their other artists are equally stellar. Tables do fill up fast when Winter Texans are here or it is the rush of summer, so make sure to go early. They do serve a light menu of items (sandwiches, quesadillas, burgers, etc) that are pretty reasonable and tasty. Drinks during happy hour are great prices and even outside of happy hour...they are reasonable. I do believe happy hour runs 5 to 9. This is located inside Isla Grand Beach Resort. This will definitely become a new favorite hangout when we are in town!

My friends and I have been coming to Quarterdeck for the 4th of July for multiple years in a row,…read moreand we've always had an amazing time. It's become one of our favorite holiday traditions, which is why this year was such a disappointment. We were excited to see DJX and Live Wire, expecting a fun, high-energy show, but unfortunately that wasn't our experience. For one of the biggest holidays of the year, there was very little interaction with the crowd that actually added to the entertainment. Instead of focusing on performing, the female singer repeatedly left the stage and spent long periods walking through the audience. At one point, she was asking people for tips over a discussion about Tupac vs. Biggie--something that had nothing to do with the beach, the 4th of July, or creating a fun atmosphere for the crowd. A man who appeared to be with her, but was not part of the band, followed her around asking people the same questions. The interactions throughout the night felt more personal than professional. Members of our group felt uncomfortable because some of the conversations and attention directed toward our male friends came across as flirtatious rather than focused on entertaining the audience. Whether that was the intent or not, it created an awkward atmosphere that took away from the experience. The male singer did a great job and kept the music going, but unfortunately the female singer's performance felt disengaged and not genuine. We came to celebrate the 4th of July with a band that would bring energy, interact with the crowd, and make the night memorable. Instead, it felt like the focus was everywhere except on putting on a great show. We've never left Quarterdeck disappointed before, but this year was different. We sincerely hope this was just an off night because we've always loved spending the 4th of July here, but this year's entertainment was a huge letdown.

This place has so much good energy. As always be careful on the busy weekend nights with certain shady people hanging around. I did have to watch a handsy guy sitting to my right. The environment changes quite a bit from a Monday to a Saturday. Mondays seem very chill. Fridays and Saturdays are intense. Despite paying 80% when booking, which is what it asked for, they called as we were driving there, to tell us that we hadn't checked in and they need the rest of the money, and wanted us to give them our credit card over the phone - keep in mind that it was 11am, and before we could possibly check in. Beyond that, giving a credit card number over the phone is a great way to have a bad day, which was validated later. We ended up getting there, and it is a DUMP. I mean rotten wood, mold, peeled paint, nasty smells. Dirty common areas that were filthy the whole time we were there. The room had stuff all over the floors that hadn't been cleaned from the prior guests. When you are there, don't plan to sleep. They have nightly live music that is incredibly loud, and there is no part of the property that you can't hear it. People are drunk and yelling and screaming till 2-3am every night. No amount of ear plugs can enable sleep. Any questions of staff are met with disdain. The food is disgusting and I literally threw up from it the last night we were there. Drinks are the worst I've ever had. Didn't even bother to blend the Mudslide that I ordered. Keep in mind, that I like Waffle House, so for me to call this place terrible, it's legitimately terrible. Oh, and the TV stored my AppleTV login info, even though I fully logged out, and I find out yesterday that someone has rented $180 of movies this week that I am now having to fight.

This review is for the resort alone- we did not chose to go to the water park…read more I was terrified of what the resort or rooms would look like based on prior reviews that I had read on my way to South Padre- let me just go ahead and say I wasted a lot of energy and stress unnecessarily. First We pulled into the water park parking lot only to realize the resort is located further north on the island- minor inconvenience. We located the correct entrance to the resort pulled in- the lobby is tiny. I assumed the entrance to the rooms would be located in another area- but there is just a hidden walkway adorned with floor fans and staff entrances that led to 2 elevators. None the less the counter staff was absolutely amazing and friendly- they explained the water park ticket options (we booked through a hotel app so water park tickets were not included in the price) as well as towel cards and all of the resort rules. They asked me how many room keys I would need for our stay- I was pleasantly pleased that they were not keys at all, but wrist bands with built in keys to your room. My kids were ecstatic to be able to open the door themselves and I was equally ecstatic to not have to keep up with room key cards! After checking in we passed a small awkwardly located gift shop- doors out to a pool and into the elevator area. Our room was located on the 5th floor- room 513. The hall flooring could use a cleaning- but honestly it their busiest time and I'm sure would just get stained again quickly with all of the traffic. We unlocked the door to our room expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. Updated and clean rooms- very spacious. It had a table with two chairs, a dresser area with a larger sized mini fridge- a sitting area next to the window and a large dressing area and basic bathroom. The a/c worked amazingly- and the fan helped with any hallway noises. I was honestly surprised by the lack of noises above or beside or in the hallways! Possibly one of the quietest hotels we have stayed in considering the amount of children! I want to also say that the cleaning crew is absolutely top notch! They were SO sweet and took our trash and dirty towels when we declined room cleaning. We walked doe to the lobby to explore the resort- we walked out the double doors to the heated pool/swim up bar area. Passed what I assume is part of the water park rides and areas and then walked out a locked door (just use those wrist bands I mentioned) to a sidewalk that let to the beach grill- another little shop and the larger Non heated pool and a beautiful beach! We stayed during the week- the beaches were not too crowded but more crowded than I usually like. Still they were clean and enjoyable. We chose to bring our own chairs and umbrella but you can pay $30 for a chair and umbrella that is set up by the resort. The sand gets HOT- so be sure to wear shoes you can walk through sand in! Especially if you plan on walking to and from the beach grill to get frozen pina coladas! There is a little shower once you leave the beach- but it's only one and there is usually a line that you must wait in while everyone rushes to get the sand off. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants- but spent some time at the heated pool and swim up bar. Our bartender was awesome- drinks delicious and the kids had a blast being able to swim around in a 3 foot pool while we were able to sit in the shade drinking frozen concoctions. My only complaint is that it's heated. I mean it's 100 degrees outside- it was not as refreshing and enjoyable as it could have been at 1pm. While we sipped pina coladas at the pool we were also washing clothes. This is my only major complaint- there are 2 washers and 2 dryers for multiple floors. Luckily they were on the 5th floor were we were staying. There was quite a line to wash- and usually that's not a huge deal but the dryer took over 3 hours just to get the clothes semi dry. What a waste of energy and time! So if you plan on washing clothes plan accordingly of maybe just find a laundromat and save yourself time and money. The hotel itself does need some updating- humidity makes for lots of rust and mildew. The ceilings in the hallways (not rooms) are also very low- 7 feet I think? So if you have someone tall in your group it can be a little claustrophobic. We chose to pass on the water park- and I'm really glad we did. It looked like a dilapidated abandoned water park you see on one of those picture posts on facebook. Maybe it's better inside but from the outside it is just wooden shacks with clear plastic all over it and faded slides and rust. Not my thing.

Beach Water Park (formerly Schlitterbahn)…read more I'd heard about this place for years under the Schlitterbahn name, so when we had a free Saturday we decided to finally check it out. There's active construction on the west side of the park, a pretty substantial pit dug out, so right away the place feels incomplete. The concept here is genuinely different from any water park I've been to. The whole thing is accessed via lazy river. You float from attraction to attraction, peel off at exit ramps, and wait in floating tube lines for each ride. No hauling a tube up four flights of stairs in flip-flops. That part I actually appreciated. The problem is the wait times are brutal. We sat in one line for 40 minutes before giving up and walking ourselves backward out of it. The line barely moved the entire time. On the way out, one of the employees mentioned capacity on the rides had been reduced from previous years. That explains it, and also doesn't make me feel better about it. The lazy river access system only works if the rides are actually moving people through. When they're not, you're just floating in a queue wondering why you left the house. Wouldn't prioritize coming back.
