We were excited to see DJX and Live Wire, expecting a fun, high-energy show, but unfortunately that wasn't our experience. For one of the biggest holidays of the year, there was very little interaction with the crowd that actually added to the entertainment. Instead of focusing on performing, the female singer repeatedly left the stage and spent long periods walking through the audience. At one point, she was asking people for tips over a discussion about Tupac vs. Biggie--something that had nothing to do with the beach, the 4th of July, or creating a fun atmosphere for the crowd. A man who appeared to be with her, but was not part of the band, followed her around asking people the same questions. The interactions throughout the night felt more personal than professional. Members of our group felt uncomfortable because some of the conversations and attention directed toward our male friends came across as flirtatious rather than focused on entertaining the audience. Whether that was the intent or not, it created an awkward atmosphere that took away from the experience. The male singer did a great job and kept the music going, but unfortunately the female singer's performance felt disengaged and not genuine. We came to celebrate the 4th of July with a band that would bring energy, interact with the crowd, and make the night memorable. Instead, it felt like the focus was everywhere except on putting on a great show. We've never left Quarterdeck disappointed before, but this year was different. We sincerely hope this was just an off night because we've always loved spending the 4th of July here, but this year's entertainment was a huge letdown.

The first drink arrived with a very small snack skewer (pieces cut an inch long). While the drink itself tasted good, it looked nothing like what is advertised online & what was described by my friend . If you compare our drink (first photo) to their promotional photo (second photo), the difference is obvious. Which we totally enjoyed the skewer and wasn't going to complain about the shrinkage of the garnish's. We ordered a second round, and this time there was no skewer at all. When my husband asked about it, the bartender said you only get the garnish skewer on your first Bloody Mary!!!! WOW! I initially thought maybe they had ran out of the garnishes, but my husband pointed out that all the items were sitting in trays right in front of her. VERY Misleading and left a bad impression. The only reason I ordered the second drink is because I wanted the skewer! Between the smoke, inconsistency with the drinks and the bartenders stingy attitude, we won't be returning.

I was told they were adding a huge tv screen for all to watch your favorite sporting event. It was going to be a much more upscale way of having a cool sports bar for all to enjoy. The food was ok. I ordered a pepperoni pizza for my wife and I had the Mexican style shrimp cocktail. They had $3 Coors Light, so that was cool. We sat upstairs and caught the second half of the Dallas Cowboy game. The Second Visit: Wow! They finished the "new" sports bar side and did a great job! The television is HUGE! So big that if you sit at the bar to watch it, you neck starts to hurt from looking up so much! This visit we had some Jack and Cokes, and a pretty cool mango Chamoy margarita topped with Tajin. Wife really liked that! I also ordered a Michelada which was one of the best I had. The bartender Damon was a cool ol' Navy veteran who had some stories! Nice hit and was really on top of taking care of us and everyone else who came in the bar. They also had karaoke upstairs and it looked like everyone was having fun! I was told by Damon that they're in process of completing their VIP area and cigar lounge. I can't wait to see that and light up a stogie in that area! Before even stepping in, we specifically asked if there was a cover to enter when the person at the front said "oh yes there's covers upstairs." We said "no, do you have a cover charge?" And they responded back "no." My friend group and I then decided to hang out a bit and see what this spot was all about. We were there prior to the DJ setting up so once he started playing music, we were dancing and having a really great time!! All of a sudden, 2 security guards (who had been upstairs for about 45 minutes plus before even speaking to us) finally decided to approach us where they had stated we needed to go downstairs to get a wrist band before 10pm... when it was already after 10, closer to 10:20pm. Confused but not wanting to cause a scene, we decided to go downstairs to get our "wristband". Once downstairs, we were approached by who I assume would be the manager- scrawny, gray-haired older man- who was already obviously annoyed of our group for some reason. He made us show our ID AND get a hand stamp before "re-entering". We asked why this was suddenly an issue and all he could come up with was "the stamp is to allow you entry coming in and out." Again, not wanting to start a scene or be a problem, we still got the wristband and hand stamp- which is very weird might I add. I have never been to a bar where I get in before the cover charge and then is hunted to get a wristband to prove I was in the bar before 10 or I'll be forced to pay for the cover. My friend group and I are young, but of course over 21, so I'm unsure what this whole issue was about. The older man who practically forced us to get these wristbands well after the fact of being there left such a bad taste in our mouths that we decided to leave. Beware of this place if coming in before the cover charge! Again, not sure what the reasoning was for all this. We tried asking out of curiosity but was told to "not give attitude or we'll be thrown out." Consider spending your money somewhere else that is more worthwhile.

There's one bartender in particular who seems to always be working when we visit, and he's consistently attentive, friendly, and makes the experience that much better. They have nightly live music that is incredibly loud, and there is no part of the property that you can't hear it. People are drunk and yelling and screaming till 2-3am every night. No amount of ear plugs can enable sleep. Any questions of staff are met with disdain. The food is disgusting and I literally threw up from it the last night we were there. Drinks are the worst I've ever had. Didn't even bother to blend the Mudslide that I ordered. Keep in mind, that I like Waffle House, so for me to call this place terrible, it's legitimately terrible. Beach Water Park (formerly Schlitterbahn)…read more I'd heard about this place for years under the Schlitterbahn name, so when we had a free Saturday we decided to finally check it out. There's active construction on the west side of the park, a pretty substantial pit dug out, so right away the place feels incomplete. The concept here is genuinely different from any water park I've been to. The whole thing is accessed via lazy river. You float from attraction to attraction, peel off at exit ramps, and wait in floating tube lines for each ride. No hauling a tube up four flights of stairs in flip-flops. That part I actually appreciated. The problem is the wait times are brutal. We sat in one line for 40 minutes before giving up and walking ourselves backward out of it. The line barely moved the entire time. On the way out, one of the employees mentioned capacity on the rides had been reduced from previous years. That explains it, and also doesn't make me feel better about it. The lazy river access system only works if the rides are actually moving people through. When they're not, you're just floating in a queue wondering why you left the house. Wouldn't prioritize coming back.

We're not from So. Padre. This Sunday evening, our group decided to try Bar Louie / South Padre…read moreisland based on a review for seafood gumbo. Clicked on review to get directions / map. A short 3 mile drive and GPS took us directly to the parking lot for "Clayton's" (NOT bar Louie). We pulled in, asked about Bar Louie, and were directed to the Courtyard by Marriott (bar Louie inside...a fact that is barely mentioned in all SM). Asked if we could park, "sure for $20!" We exited the lot, made a U Turn in Friday night SPI traffic and went next door to Courtyard. Parking lot full, no parking attendants anywhere, no ability to valet, AND no signage about BL. So we returned to Clayton's, paid $20, and walked up the ramp for Clayton's. No signs for Bar Louie anywhere that we could see. As we approached the beach, we saw "Mariluna's" which appeared to be a bar and restaurant at the rear of The Courtyard. Asked a security officer at Clayton's about Bar Louie, and he said "it's right there", pointing directly at Mariluna's. I confirmed his statement by saying "that's bar Louie?" (pointing at Mariluna's) He confirmed! I thought "Did BL take over Mariluna's without changing the signage". Starving and thirsty, we continued walking. Observing employees with "Mariluna's shirts inside the Mariluna's building, told me we were NOT at bar Louie. Still ...no signage anywhere pointing the way to our destination. We decided to walk toward the hotel. This is where we saw a small sign (first picture in post) showing the way to BL. Finally got seated, server took drink and food order. Food arrived and we received a grilled chicken sandwich instead of the grilled cheese sandwich we actually ordered. Easy mistake, Server corrected. Food was acceptable with the exception of the seafood gumbo, which, as a featured dish definitely calls for revisiting the current recipe). Restaurant was virtually empty. Our discussion returned to the difficulty we'd just experienced trying to find, park, and navigate our way from Clayton's to BL. The sparseness of customers became obvious to us. NO ONE CAN FIND THE FRIGGIN PLACE!! Finally, we speculated that either Marriott doesn't need BL to be profitable / successful, or the employees don't need the tips and are averse to making money. Based on our experience...Courtyard and BL are doing a great job keeping the location of bar Louie / SPI a secret from travelers to SPI.

They had a live band, 2 bar tops, several bathrooms, and lots of open tables/seats. They check bags when you come in. You're allowed to bring your drinks down to the beach but can't bring them back up to the hotel. So, chug away before coming back! They also don't allow you to take drinks off to the parking lot and there are security all around that checks. The drinks were STRONG and we had several. The food was simple but it was just what we all needed. We ordered their fries, chicken tenders, beef nachos, and chicken sandwich. Would definitely recommend a day/night spent here and would love to come again!
