The pier is back in action after sustaining some hurricane damage a few years ago. It's $5 to fish or $2 to walk the pier but you can buy an annual pass if you're a local who visits frequently and they'll give you a ticket that lets you come and go that day if you buy a one day admission. Lots of great fishing a spots and places to sit at the benches and picnic tables. They also have restrooms and a stand that sells snacks and some fishing supplies. It's the best place in town to get a view of the beach and the ocean and I'll be back when I'm in town again. read more

Great place to fish. There is a store right where you get one. It's $2 to walk or have a picnic lunch and $5 to fish. $1 discount for locals. The pier provided a great view of the coast line. Even if you had to pay $2 bucks to enter the pier, this is still a nice place to walk through, take in the sights or even fish. The Jacksonville Beach Pier reopened July 2022. It was destroyed by hurricanes Matthew and Irma, and it took six years to rebuild. I walked the pier for the first time in December and have been back several times since. It was free entry until January 2, 2023. Duval County residents and hotel guests with a valid key pay $1, and others $2. If you're fishing, the cost is $5. They also offer an annual pass. The new pier was beautiful. The wood walkway was fresh and even unlike the old one Iol. There's a covered bench about halfway to the end, as well as some picnic tables with umbrellas as you enter the pier. Tables are first come first serve at no extra charge. I've already imagined myself having lunch there. Beach Life Rentals is managing the pier. They sell snack, drinks, including coffee and hot chocolate. They also sell bait. They have a golf cart, and will deliver to you on the pier. I'm very happy with the new pier! And I am seriously considering purchasing an annual pass. read more

A great day in the pier. I did not go to go fishing but just to sit and relax above the sand. It was a stressful morning and my happy place did not disappoint. I sat, watched waves, listened to beach sounds, and just relaxed. They have picnic benches and umbrellas for you to sit and eat. Note there is a nominal entrance fee for the upkeep of the planking and the pier. Many fisher people and lots of 'catches'. With a constant pleasant breeze and lots of sun, I thoroughly enjoyed my happy place (anywhere near water). read more

In A Nutshell: -The Jacksonville Beach Pier owned by the city of JAX is a decent pier. -It's small in size, but it's perfect for fishermen. -On just a 10 minute stroll I was able to see a couple people catch some fish including a beautiful yellow pompano. -There is a snack shack at the head of the pier to purchase food/drinks. -There is also a bathroom there too. Overall, they did a really nice job of rebuilding the pier after Hurricane Matthew (2016) and Hurricane Irma (2017) damaged more than 100 feet of the original pier. read more

Currently the Pier is under construction for improvements; as well as the area surrounding it. I think after this revitalization project it's going to be a great area once again. My friends and I laid out to the left of the pier a little further out where it was less busy and it was super nice! Weather was almost 80° and we got our tan on :) Definitely not so busy on the weekdays (we went yesterday around 1pm and didn't leave til almost 430pm). After that, we threw our clothes on, met our boys, and ate at Harmonious Monks! Very nice to just walk around and soak up some sun! read more

The pier is so pretty! I was really surprised at how gorgeous the beach is in Jacksonville. Having mostly visited the gulf coast beaches and further south than Jacksonville, I wasn't sure how the beach would be there but it was amazing! Crystal clear waters and white sand. I love it! read more

I've been to Jacksonville beach many times but this is the first time being on the pier. Entrance fee is free for kids under 6, $1 for spectators and $4 for fishermen. Fishermen are allowed 3 poles max. Pier is open 6 - 10 pm daily, but close sooner during Dec - March. There is a concession stand / bait shop at the entrance. We forgot bait so this was a convenient amenity. Shrimp and clams are $4 and you get a decent amount. There's a few washing stations as well. When we loved up north, hubby fished occasionally. In Jax, he decides he wants to make fishing his hobby. Even being a novice fisherman, he's had good luck fishing from the pier. He's caught bluefish, atlantic croaker and even baby sharks. Apparently there are a lot of baby sharks in the ocean because several of the fishermen next to us caught baby sharks as well. One even caught a hammerhead. Hubby caught several different types of fish today but had to throw most of them back because they were too small. The pier is quite wide and long. It's a different perspective of looking at the ocean even if you're not fishing. I saw several baby stingrays. You can meet some very nice people and get lots of fishing tips. There are a couple benches but would have been nice to have a covered canopy area. Every now and then, the wind will bring a stench that was just too unpleasant for me. Not sure if it's from the garbage cans or washing stations. Although it was different and interesting being on the pier, I prefer looking at the pier from a distance since it's beautiful in photos. read more

I agree with Orrie! Only I do like to fish, but dern does it get hot up on the pier! There is a nice breeze, except for the middle of the day (also known as the heat of the day) when it is blazin hot and not a stir of air. Newbies beware and come early or later in the day. Early, I hear from fishing fans, is the better time if you are serious about catching some fish. I am not an early morning person and think finding it at the market is a good thing too, or I can come to their house and help them cook it and eat it. Unlike the old wooden pier built in 1936 with it's shaky pilings and a bar with pool tables and the obliging daytime drinkers, this place is great for families with kids. Mine love going up there and watching, and of course talking to everyone along the way :) Sometimes we get lucky and see someone reel in a big one. Makes you wonder about exactly what you are swimming with?? read more

Absolutely beautiful. We didn't have a lot of time to spend at the beach and were there right after Hurricane Matthew. They were still busy cleaning up but the beach and the water was still gorgeous. The pier itself was not open as the hurricane took off the end of it. That was sad. Most of the pier was still there but people were not allowed on it at this time. We had no trouble finding a place to park. There were several restaurants located along the beach road but we didn't have a lot of time. There were also several walkways from the main road onto the beach. We would definitely return and spend some time on the beach. read more

"You smell like fish and booze." "Well, I feel like a million bucks. Just so you know." My mom was pissed off at me. She left me $20 on the counter when she went to work. Told me to pay off my overdue library books and that there should be enough left over to go to the hot dog hut. Screw that. Just because you like hot dogs doesn't mean that I do. Took the $20 and went to the fishing pier. Now I know what you're thinking. This loser needs to get a job. Well... I have a job! It's called making myself happy. Paid one dollar to get on the pier and then hung out with this guy I met named Chuck. He was on pills and had a sunburn. Said he was on disability and that Obama was screwing him over. Kept talking about the government being all in his business. He smoked cigarettes and talked about corvettes. He asked me to drive him to penman road. Said he'd buy me a drink at Mangos on the way. We left the pier and went to the bar. When we got there, he said he lost his wallet. Started crying in the bar and ran into the bathroom. I ran after him. We hugged it out in the stall. Told him that the drinks were on me. I had fireball on the rocks. He said "get me the cheapest drink they have." Nice guy. Brought him home and tucked him into bed. Kissed his forehead and told him that tomorrow is another day. The pier is a great place to mingle. Meet the locals. Laugh with them. Cry with them. Listen to them brag. About themselves. I love going out on this pier with my clients. You never know what you might catch however usually you will catch fish. Summer is the best time when the large predatory fish start to show up...Kingfish, Cobia, Redfish, Shark....you never know. Best time to fish is on a tide change, 2 hours before and 2 hours after. To beat the heat go in the morning or late afternoon. Pier is open till 10pm on most nights. If you don't have the proper fishing gear, you will miss out on "the bite" : ) If you need help fishing, give me a call and book an outing for you and/or the kids. One of the best surf spots along this beach. Since the city built the new pier here the sand gathering to make a good sandbar and that means waves. I hear the fishing is good but then if a really big tree grew up over the ocean that would be a good spot too. This pier is suppose to be more hurricane proof the old one built in the 20's. It's a giant concrete monster that sticks out into the ocean. The other once had a dance hall and then a restaurant and stood for a really longtime. read more

Our family goes to the pier very often. It is not a huge, fancy, pier, and updates need to be made, but all in all, we fish and bring guests here when they are visiting. The fisherman are very friendly and don't mind when people ask questions about their fish/take photos, etc. It's a great place to go. read more

I love the pier, homeless people sleeping on the benches and all! Come early and you will be one of few people there. Park away from the pier to get good parking and just walk. During peak times, it's best to find parking away from this area as this fills up pretty fast! read more
