If you're going to Jaco, here are two questions you should ask before you start: 1. "Will I have the same personal trainer each session?" That's a reasonable expectation. A consistent PT can track your progress, understand your limitations, and adjust your program the way true one-on-one training should. 2. When they ask, "Have you been doing your exercises?" Respond with: "Did you review my data and history before this session?" My experience was being passed between multiple trainers. Without getting into the weeds, no one consistently reviewed my charts before sessions. That matters. Without context, it's impossible to ask the right questions or receive targeted guidance. Each session, I was measured and data was recorded--but no one explained what it meant. I was never told how I was progressing, especially regarding range of motion or outcomes. Jaco uses a high-tech system that allows them to charge a $50 cancellation fee within 24 hours, yet trainers weren't consistently inputting or reviewing data to deliver informed sessions. At one point, the lead PT had to step in mid-session to guide the trainer I was working with on what I should actually be doing. After two months of this, I canceled my sessions and am now looking for another PT provider. read more

It's about time I write a review on JACO Rehab located at the Hale Pawa'a building. According to its website, JACO opened its doors in 1998, and has four locations: Honolulu, Waikele, Mililani, and Kapolei. JACO offers one-on-one physical therapy, injury prevention programs, and performance services for runners, paddlers and other athletes. I have been referred to JACO several times lol. Getting older isn't much fun. Trying to exercise and stay fit is a necessity towards mobility and healthy aging. Through the years, every PT that I have had the pleasure to work with has been great. They will work you hard and you may be a bit sore afterwards, but it's all worth the effort. Currently, I'm working with Kristen and Shannon. I have met JACO himself as he checked on everyone's progress. All the employees here have been pleasant, professional and help you with your needs. There are bathrooms located on the 5th floor, just request for the key from the front desk. Parking is complimentary for the first hour and then $1.00 for each hour thereafter. "Snap, Crackle, and Pop!" were the sounds I heard from my knees, not from a cereal bowl. This past August was filled with ups and downs for me as I tried to extend our Hawaiian Aloha hospitality to our visiting Los Angeles relatives who came in to celebrate family birthdays but unfortunately ended up missing a visit with a fellow Yelper from Singapore because of acute knee pain and stiffness. My limited mobility peaked after dropping an earring on my bathroom floor, and I had to get down on my hands and feet to find where it had bounced and rolled away. As I bent down to crawl, I heard a familiar "snap, crackle, and pop" from my knees, occurring more frequently over the past two years. After crawling on the hardwood floor while looking for the earring, I struggled to get back up to my feet and experienced pain that I hadn't felt since having a meniscus repair. But, it wasn't the first time that I experienced the crackling and knee stiffness with a bit of pain since having a bilateral knee meniscus repair about 13 years ago. I visited my PCP in late August, who referred me to Dr. Jay Marumoto at Queen's Orthopedic Associates on Hale Pawa'a's Medical Building, 7th Floor, in the first week of September. Soon after my appointment with Dr. Marumoto, I followed his office's referral to JACO Rehab - Town on Hale Pawa'a's 5th Floor. The friendly receptionist received my referral letter and insurance information while asking about my availability for treatment sessions. I told her that my schedule was flexible and agreed to start twice a week therapy sessions beginning the next day. She scheduled me for ten sessions and said I could schedule more later. Two therapists, Hiro and Genelle, were assigned to manage my therapy sessions. Over the past month, they have been working with me toward better and less painful knee functionality. Both therapists are young, energetic, and professional. I understand it's their job to evaluate the patient to improve movement, manage pain, and prevent further injury. During my therapy sessions, the exercises have physically challenged me. The therapists are sensitive to ensuring I do the exercises correctly to rebuild strength and mobility in my core and legs. I'm learning to balance my exercise regimen with strength, cardio, and flexibility training. I anticipate the exercise challenges and look forward to each new session as I get closer to my goal of feeling more balanced, stronger, and able to bend, walk, or run with less stiffness or knee crackling. Aloha, I am a retired 5-time combat veteran, power lifter, and previous competitive bodybuilder here in Hawaii. My experience started off very positively with personal service from Jaco himself. I still use some of his techniques to mitigate injury and pain (15 yrs later). Then, I retired, with worsening injury conditions; wear and tear from Jumping, combat ops, and heavy lifting. ... Subsequently , Jaco's staff and service grew too large, superficial, and unsympathetic to rightfully needy individuals. Being slightly late a few times became an unjustifiable reason to be preclude service, and discriminate against clientele, regardless of circumstances. This is particularly poignant to me, mentally and physically, with my background and since I have growing treatment requirements as I age. I hope that they can reconcile their service, and focus again on personalized needs again. And I hope no one gets treated unfairly. This is a type of business, which should rightfully cater to each snd every customer as required , not to favor staff discrimination to preclude customers on random criterion, which changes with each new therapist who arrives to temporarily work there. My PT person at Jaco was fantastic, but their billing department is ridiculous. It's been 7 months since my treatment, and I'm still trying to get a straight answer on my bill. It took forever to even get a bill, and then when I did, it was much more than the estimates I was given. I needed physical therapy. My PCP had a few recommendations but I thought I'd choose a physical therapy facility based on favorable reviews by Yelpers I knew face-to-face. I was interested in Jaco Rehab and researched them online to see what they emphasized and if they fit my needs. I was looking primarily for direct one-on-one care for movement advice, hands-on manual therapy, and prescriptive exercise I could do outside the facility. I liked that they allowed me to schedule with the same Physical Therapist throughout the duration of my care. On the phone they were easy to talk to, happily answered my questions. There were a few things I did not care for. I had to fight to focus on staying relaxed and in the right frame of mind because the front desk and waiting area were too noisy. There were way to many conversations going on that I didn't need to hear. I distinctly got the impression I was part of the herd of patients - I shouldn't be hearing cross-talk about other patients and billing practices. They also were not geared to take my payment in person without a paper statement in hand - I ended up calling in my payment. What I liked about the facility was that I could stay out in the open or use a private treatment room, depending on whether we were discussing confidential information or doing physical assessments. You are assigned a couple primary therapists who are all good, but naturally, some are better than others. They all have awesome personalities I must say. Shannen is top notch and clearly knows her job ! She pushes you to your limit and brings you back in. After a session with her, you know that she worked your injury well! Sometimes, it gets a little too crowded in the one workout area where all the massage tables are filled. Not much privacy this way. Awesome rehab center! I had root repair surgery for a torn meniscus in my right knee in March 2019. Two people suggested JACO Rehab to me, one who was my nurse case manager. She said that they have great hours and excellent physical therapists. I started physical therapy a week after surgery although I was not allowed to bear any weight on my surgical leg which consisted of massage, stretching & resistance training & icing. After I was cleared for weight bearing (6 weeks post surgery), I was ramped up to challenging exercises to build strength & flexibility in my knee & right leg muscles. Despite the pain that's associated with physical therapy (no joke) I was encouraged to breathe & keep going. My physical therapists were extremely supportive too. It's been around 3 months since I was cleared to walk & I'm pretty close to walking & going up stairs normally but am still building strength for going down stairs normally. As a PT myself, I was very anxious having to need PT services. I asked my surgeon if he would trust the therapists at Jaco with his own shoulder, and he told me "absolutely!" That put my mind at ease on my first visit, however had he not told me that, I would have been just fine. From my first interaction with the front desk staff, I felt extremely comfortable and and confident in the care I would receive. This confidence only increased when I met my therapist Matt. He is an outstanding PT! I allowed myself to be 100% patient, and I had a great experience. I learned so much from Matt in the 2+ months I was there as a patient, and he helped me overcome more than just a shoulder impairment. I also had Cat and Mel as therapists and they were also very knowledgeable and skilled. I would recommend Jaco rehab to anyone, any day of the week. I had the best experience there. Jaco was great when I first started going there ! I had 2 knee replacements !! But now to find out they are trying to bill my Insurance company for something in Dec 2022! They did not get pre approval even though they told me they did ! My insurance company warned me that Jaco may try to bill me ! If course that's not going to happen ! Just beware !! They tried to charge me for something in 2020 ! Jaco sent bill in 2021 a year later ! The last time I went to Jaco was the beginning of 2023 but the way the receptionist treated me and the must wear mask policy even though it's over, turned me off and I cancelled all appointments !! I've had an excellent experience at JACO Rehab! My doctor referred me due to having vertigo. Thanks to Laura and Kelsee for helping me with my vertigo! I can't remember how many PT sessions I had but was about 1.5-2 months. The main takeaway is that they helped me to learn the tools I needed in case I ever get hit with a bad case of vertigo in the future, and helped me lessen the dizzy spells I was having. We made major improvements over the several weeks with specific exercises aimed at helping my vertigo, such as using the Epley maneuver, reading/focusing on numbers/words using a metronome, walking and balancing exercises. Both girls were down to earth and took the time/patience with me, and overall a great experience! Thanks again, ladies! Other notes: the town JACO is located on the 5th floor in the Hale Pawaa building, on the corner of Beretania and Keeaumoku. Entrance with a drop off/seating area is on the Beretania side; but if you want to just go straight to the parking you can enter on Young Street (or just drive through the Beretania side). I spent over a week trying to schedule an appointment that they wouldn't schedule because of their office policies. They don't even take Car accident cases especially it it's not your fault. I was referred to JACO for a work comp injury. I attend the town location. It is in a nice building and parking is free for the first hour and $1/30 mins after the first hour. The office is clean and modern. They have multiple stations to attend to the guests and they wipe everything down really well after each person is done. I am working with Connor and feel he does an outstanding job. Very detailed and has a great knowledge of what he does. Just wanted to say I had an excellent experience with JACO Rehab. I attended seven sessions with Ed for a knee issue, and had great results. The biggest thing for me was that the PT stays with you for the entire session. At other places I've gone, the PT spends a few minutes with you before handing you off to a tech who basically just counts your reps and corrects form. So I really appreciated that I was with one person who could track my progress throughout the session. The other big thing for me was that the PT thoroughly massaged the affected area to loosen it up before I began the exercises. Five stars for great service and above all, results. read more

I came here at the recommendation of my doctor, and did one round of 6 visits as they told me I could do per my insurance. The place is 5 stars - hands down. HOWEVER - no one could tell me how much it would cost me. Literally, no one could predict, call or estimate. I had to just go and at the end of my scheduled visits, my therapist wanted me to do more, but I couldn't commit without knowing how much this had cost me. They said it wouldn't be too much, maybe under $100. almost 2 months later, I got the bill, It came out to $300+. As a young person, if I had known that, I wouldn't have gone. Phone receptionist customer service is the worst. It never got improved even after years. I went to Jaco three years ago, had to cancel appointment. Receptionist was being super rude on keep questioning me in details on why I had to cancel an appointment and was giving me hard time just because I need to cancel an appointment. Now few years after, still had bad experience on bad phone receptionist. First they put me on a one month hold on physical therapy, I be ok I wait. On a Saturday, a phone receptionist called me three times in a row in which I was unable to pick up the phone. She was so rude saying if you don't reply by Sunday before noon, I will cancel your appointment then follow with a text message on the same issue. I was mad on how rude she was so I texted back saying cancel. Then she replied saying can you come Wednesday. I didn't reply. Then she spam me again with phone calls and text messages on Monday saying if you don't reply by Tuesday before noon, I am going to cancel the appointment. Hello! I didn't reply saying I am going to take the Wednesday appointment, how do you get an idea on putting me down on Wednesday? By how rude she is, no thanks. There are other PT out there. I don't have to take that. And I block Jaco phone number on phone calls and text. Please don't spam me on non-existence appointment confirmation and I am going to another PT on the island. These guys helped me with an ongoing knee problem I've been having. I've been blessed with a medical condition that gives me pains in my knees (and my knees only). What others have said in the "negative" reviews *are* true, it's difficult to have a consistent physical therapist because they book in huge "chunks" of appointments. This can be a problem, but if you're reading this yelp review, it's easy to figure it out. Physical therapy expects you to have multiple ongoing appointments, so beforeyour first appointment, request that they book you for ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENTS IN ADVANCE with the same therapist and most importantly, give them the BEST hours for you. If you book 1-2 weeks in advance you are almost always guaranteed to get the same therapist you need. This is how I was able to maintain a consistent therapist. They have very good "work friendly" hours - they're open early in the morning and have appointments up to 8 PM. They have great trainers no matter what time of day you're there and they're open EVERY day. Initially Edward saw me, who was very professional and knowledgable, and then another guy I don't remember the name of, but my main therapist was Leahndi. Leahndi was awesome. Extremely friendly, very understanding, patient and explained everything. She always made sure if I was doing an exercise I wasn't in pain and she explained the purpose of each exercise. She warns you if something is going to cause pain. What's great about JACO is that the physical therapist is 1 : 1. Another PT place I went to had a PT that had to deal with 3 patients at once. JACO on the other hand, despite what someone said in the comments, is not a "clinical mill". It has an extremely aggressive schedule, yes, but I've talked to multiple PTs at JACO and they all said the work environment is so much better for them because they can develop a personal relationship with each patient. When your PT sees you, they will be guiding you *for the entire duration of your exercises*. They help you do the exercises correctly, will guide you on the correct positions, correct pace, everything from the start to the end. I never had this experience at the other PT I went to years ago. What's even better? With insurance, your copay is very reasonable. I had a multitude of sessions done and I am genuinely surprised the other place I went to charged as much as it did compared to the quality of care I had from JACO. Parking's a breeze. First hour is validated and every hour after that is only $1. Really easy place to access and locate and the building itself is fairly modern. My Doctor ordered Physical Therapy twice a week after surgery. And I felt so defeated, cause I couldn't run or do much of anything but PT for months. Thankful I was Blessed with one of the best PT therapist Shannon. It spoiled me having a kind and awesome therapist to work on my ankle injury after surgery. Unfortunately she left to on vacation for an extended amount of time and my PT at Jaco considerable went down. Other therapist didn't give me half the repairing workout variety or assignments for home Shannon did. She gave me not only conditioning moves but things to work on at home. It motivated.me that I would heal. When she left all my other therapist gave me was an extended massage and very little work and no at home work. I could tell some were just going through the motions. So I asked my surgeon if I could drop out of PT and just continued to do the stuff I learned from Shannon at home. One year later.... My injury didn't heal completely and inflamed cause I was over doing it. I was order 2-3 months of PT again! I was lost. Where would I find another PT therapist like Shannon. PTL when I called Jaco I found out Shannon just came back!!!! So I booked her right away. She was back encouraging, assigning at home work, and more importantly teaching me how to slowly get back to myself. I wanted to cry for hope and motivation. When. You have an injury you feel so vunerable and pack on the pounds you feel awful. Shannon is not only a Physical Therapist that cares she is truly a healer. Her techniques get results! If you have to go through the pain, and trial of PT I am sorry but I totally recommend Shannon. She will have you inspired to over come and move in the right direction towards healing. I have been going to Jaco's for a couple of months and am very impressed with his facility and staff. They are very careful about cleanliness, which I appreciate. My main therapist is Ross. He is outstanding- we work on all the different exercises, but what I like most about him is the way he explains how each exercise affects a certain muscle.
